Martin Growth GardenerMartin couldn't care less about the angry expression of the attacking Mareep. Actually, he didn't look at it for more than it took to determine the effects of its varies attacks, and therefore didn't even notice what mood it might wear on it's face. He was in this to gather knowledge, and knowledge he got. He hadn't exactly sat down and studied up on every type's weaker or stronger points. Why should he have, when he was just trying to become a gardener? It had paid off to know what all his grass Pokemon were weak against, and he had also made himself familiar with a few other types, like dark and fighting, and planned on looking up ground Pokemon next. He knew next to nothing about electric types, other than they had a thing for frying birds, as had been obvious at Falkner's Gym in Violet. He was still considering if he needed an electric type. An option would be to keep one around as a kind of scarecrow against birds, but otherwise he didn't really see the point. The ground type he was planning on the other hand, would be an asset, with its ability to dig in almost anything. However, that was in the future, and this was now. The Mareep showed its true electric nature, and zapped both Dros and Juun, so small currents sparkled across their bodies like tiny fireflies. Dros hadn't seemed bothered by it, but Juun made a grimasse, showing pain for a moment, before she got used to the feeling. Maybe it had something to do with her being part flying type, Martin contemplated. He was ready to take out the next Pokemon in line, but Juun still needed to do her part, and Martin wanted to see how well she fared. "Poison Powder, Juun." He said, almost neutral. He considered if he needed to add anything, but it didn't look like it. Martin waited, while he tried to remember what the electricity did other than make his pokemon glitter weird and lose their fluent movement. (Ooc: Juun uses Poison Powder)

The previous growl attack from Dros had sent shivers across the Mareep's body and despite it being irritated with the trainer, couldn't help but feel a little intimidated in the Bulbasaur's presence. It's attack lowering from a moment of self doubt, as Juun then switched in, the Mareep quickly went back into more of a focused frame of mind. The Mareep had faced scarier foes than a mere Hoppip and didn't doubt it's success against the flying weed. Plus, it's own electrical attack had sent static across the Hoppip's body, causing it to become paralyzed. It was a simple status effect that could interfere with Juun's movement and that gave the Mareep hope, in that it could be victorious. But if it were to defeat Juun, then it only opened the question of; what other Pokemon did this unpleasant trainer own?
Feeling the Mareep's pair of beady eyes staring over at her, Juun shuddered, a little from the paralysis and a bit more from the scrutinising glare. Something within her knew that she felt different and wrong but she needed to fulfil Martin's order to avoid any consequences. A number of sparks shooting around her floating pink body every now and again, as she remained floating in the air, the small Hoppip began to shiver wildly. As she was doing this, a mass of purple spores lifted from the leaves upon her head, forming a poisonous cloud in the air. Drifting forward on the slight breeze, the spores engulfed the wild Mareep, quickly poisoning the poor sheep. A look of discomfort spreading across it's pale blue skin, the Mareep battled through the toxins which had invaded it's body and bounded forward with a tackle attack. Knocking Juun back a far way, the power of the Mareep's attack was hardly impressive.
Mareep: | Level 10 | Health: 30% ( 14/34 HP) Status: Seeded, -1 Atk, Poisoned Mareep used Tackle! Mareep hurt by poison!
VS
Juun: | Level 13 | Health: 75% (27/36 HP) Status: Paralyzed Juun used Poison Powder! Regained health!
OOC: I still think the HP is incorrect so I re-calculated it. Two leech seed turns should be x2 of 4hp/14%, this along with poison damage (1/8 so 4hp/14% again) leads to current HP. I might be incorrect or missed something, so correct me if I am wrong.
Edit: 4 Rounds of Leech Seed = 56%/16HP + Poison = 14%/4HP

Martin Growth GardenerLuckily, the Poison Powder hit true, and Martin could feel the satisfaction of a plan well executed. Now came the final part, and it might just turn out to be the most difficult. Juun had pulled through, and that was enough for Martin. Slowly, but surely she proved to be growing, and he was assured, he was taking the right approach with her. Since he was already at it, and the Mareep was starting to look tired, he would exploit the opportunity and give the Espurr a go too. He was curious to see how the small cat would fare. "Alright, Juun. Back with you." He informed her, and did the second switch of the battle. Juun sighed a bit when she was called back. She was happy to get out of having to move around with the restricted feeling in her limbs, but it had been so short. She hoped Martin would find a place where they could play around soon. The Espurr had been on edge, since the man had decided to take him with him on this walk he was taking. He couldn't find rest in the small space of the ball in the knowledge, that the trainer could meet opponents at any moment. He feared for the moment he would have to face those opponents, and the moment had come. When the light released him, he flinched back and covered, but managed not to run and hide behind the man. He didn't trust the man named Martin, purely for the reason the same man kept on such friendly basis with the Purrloin who had taken him to begin with. "Get to it, Espurr. Attack the Mareep." Martin ordered. Espurr could feel his cold expectations, and even the reason behind he didn't define what attack he wanted. For a milli-second Espurr considered the merit of not doing anything or choose the soft option. In the end Espurr's sense of self-preservation still held out, and he decided for a Covet. If he was lucky, it would satisfy Martin enough, that he wouldn't have to see the outside of his ball for the remainder of the day. (Ooc: Espurr changes in, and uses Covet)

Worn down by the combination of poison and leech seed, the electric sheep had never thought that a human could beat its electric power control! Panting and huffing, the Mareep was visibly tired, but was determined to continue this battle forward to the end. If it was to be defeated, then so be it! Letting out a growl, it was supposed to let the Hoppip know that it won't back down. Instead, a very strange looking feline Pokemon appeared. What's that? An invasive species in Johto? Or this trainer's special Pokemon? Other than the annoyance, the growl was mostly unfazed to the Espurr. The Mareep continued to feel sick as the leech seed and poison set in after its movement, making the poor sheep bleating in pain. Soon enough, the Espurr did charge forward, running like he was going to run off with some wool from the Mareep's body. Thankfully, it wasn't carrying anything, but unfortunately, that charge was enough to take the last health out of the Mareep.

Martin Growth GardenerFor a moment Martin doubted if the Espurr would attack at all, as it shot him an unreadable look. It had started shaking as soon he let it out, and at its hesitation, he prepared himself to give it a good scolding, should it refuse, but then it shot forward almost as a reaction to the Mareep's growl, and the Mareep stumbled back from the force and fell to the ground in a heap of ragged wool. The Espurr still shivered, when it stood still once more, and Martin considered if it was unintentionally. He gave a curt nod. It was a good start at least, and it gave him hope, that it wasn't all broken from Thief's treatment yet. "Good." He said, and called it back with nothing else to say. Martin placed the ball back in its holder, and looked at the Mareep laying listless on the path. He might pick up an electric type for scarecrow in the future, but it wasn't going to be this one, he decided. Very careful, he stepped around it to continue his trek. He wouldn't risk getting zapped by it. It was hard to tell, if it could while unconscious, and Martin didn't take chances. So on he went, leaving the Mareep behind and picking his way further down the road to Cherrygrove. For a while it was silent, and Martin's mood improved along the way. He felt he had accomplished a great deal today already, and he began planning what to do back in Cherrygrove. Maybe find a couple more jobs, and widen his garden team with a new member. As the time hit noon, he chose a place to sit down and have lunch, and for a bit of company he let Juun out in the air. She cheered, spinning herself around in somersaults, and then attached herself gently to Martin's coat. Martin's brow rose in the air, but he let her be, and instead got the idea to pick around in his pockets for a peculiar stone he had picked up a while ago. "You have gotten strong and durable." he commented while doing so. He held up the round, purplish stone to show it to her. "You must be strong enough now, to be able to handle this one." he explained and let her have it. She hummed while examining it, and chattered in her exited voice. Martin pushed her away. "Now, off with you. Let me eat in peace." he demanded. Juun sighed, momentarily saddened by the rejection, but then she remembered the gift, and returned to her somersault dance. She made sure to stay within sight, and at the same time keep Martin's wanted distance. Her hope had come true, and she was allowed to play around for a little while, even if it was just her. Unless it was work related Martin rarely let more of his Pokemon out at a time. After lunch Martin continued, alone again. He was at the final stretch of the road, but there was still a little way before he would be able to see the roof tops of Cherrygrove's buildindgs. (Ooc: Not catching Mareep. Juun doesn't learn Stun Spore. Putting Eviolite on Juun, self-updating.)

Leaving the Mareep behind after a long battle, Martin continued his way toward Cherrygrove City, which was geting closer and closer as he cold see the top of the buildings getting larger and larger. With Juun the Hoppip holding an Eviolite as a gift, the gardener and his grass type walked fairly far enough from the Mareep, but not close enough to Cherrygrove City, before he encountered something. Dangling right in front of him was a Weedle, who used String Shot to lowered itself down on the ground slowly. It could have been climbing downward on the tree instead, but it enjoyed the dangerous and edgy experience of dangling downward. It spun on the air for a bit while dangling, which made the squishy bug a little dizzy. Once it landed on the ground, it took a couple seconds to collect itself, before it realized that it was facing a human, and a very light Hoppip.
A (Level 5) Weedle appeared!

Martin Growth GardenerMartin had just seen the first sign of the City above the tree tops, when he spotted a Weedle dangling from a tree by its own string. Humoured, he watched it get to the ground, circling a bit uncontrolled, most likely getting dizzy, as it spent a moment adjusting to the ground. Martin considered the bug at the same time, and picked out the ball he had used last against the Mareep. If he remembered correctly, the yellow bug was part Poison, therefore it should be easily taken care of by a Psychic, so it was just to test it. Martin let the ball fall, letting the Espurr out once more. The grey furball shuttered like the first time and eyed Martin in almost the same way as before. Martin's brow furrowed at that, stern anger settling in his stomach. It was worse than Dros in the beginning. "Attack the Weedle with the strongest you've got!" he demanded, watching it flinch at the sound of his voice, and look to said bug with a slight jump. The Espurr shot him another look, crouched close to the ground and looking ready to jump any which way. Relentless tremors shook its body, and Martin huffed, moving a foot to tap it into action. "Get to it!" His foot never reached the goal. The Espurr sprang out of reach jumping both away from him and the Weedle. It did however glare in the Weedle's generel direction, and Martin recognized the Leer for what it was. Martin grumbled at its disobedience. Apparently, he had gotten his hope up too soon for the Espurr, and he dug down in his pocket, reaching for another Pokemon entirely, while catching the Espurr back in. "You better show it, how it's done, Tergi." He told the ghost as it materialised from seemingly thin air. (Ooc: Espurr starts out with a Leer. Tergi, the Gastly, changes in.)

Weedle looked at Espurr confused by the puzzling eyes the cat had. The feline did not pay it any attention for the longest of time as it refused to obey a single word it's trainer said. As the feline jumped away from Martin and Weedle however the Leer it expressed left the bug type feeling pretty uneasy. The feline must have seen some bad things to have eyes like that and it did not want to find out what those things were. before the cat could be safe from an attack however Weedle managed to fire a Poison Sting at it hoping to wipe the look of pure terror off of it's face or if nothing else get it to look at something else. The Pokemon that took it's place did not raise the bug Pokemon's hope much either as Tergi took Espurr's place. The young spirit send a chill down the Weedle's spine as they looked at one another. Gastly were not a very common sight in Cherrygrove and when they were seen it was an ominous omen that should not be taken lightly. The terrified look on Espurr's face alone had caused Weedle to question it's well being but the apperence of this spirit left it feeling a sense of hopelessness and dread. Trying to find any small piece of hope Weedle fired a Poison Sting towards Tergi only to find the spirit had shrugged it off taking almost no damage. The bug type was in serious trouble now as it had no other damaging move at it's disposal and an angry looking spirit was just a few feet away from it. Weedle curved up in a defensive posture as it began to pray to Arceus that the spirit would show it mercy. Tergi would have a huge upper hand here if she was even a fraction as strong as she looked. Martin Growth GardenerWhen Espurr had disobeyed him, Martin had thought quickly through alternatives, and chosen the only Pokemon, that had a decent defence against poison. Tergi was young, but she was part Poison, and didn't suffer from Grass' weakness, like his Grass Pokemon did. Once, when he got a pure Grass Team together, Dros would probably be his only available choice in a similar situation, but as long as he could avoid the disadvantage, he would. Tergi needed to burn off some steam anyway, so she didn't pull anything on Martin later. The one time had been enough, and he rather saw she used her schemes on others. "Go on, Tergi. Astonish." he told her, refusing to acknowledge the tiny bit of unease squirming around in his chest at her presence. He hadn't forgotten the look in her eyes last time, where she had almost refused to be called back. Ghosts were a tricky species, he didn't know much about. However, he did know not to show weakness in their face, and so he went on squashing feelings that didn't belong, and hardened himself for any surprises. Tergi was a bit surprised at being let out so suddenly. Martin had given no indication, he planned to let her out again. All she had sensed, was a spike of annoyed anger, and then she faced a yellow bug. Therefore, she took her time to take in the opponent, and offered up a 'friendly' smile, even as the bug stung her with small needles. Something had frightened the Weedle, and Tergi tasted the fright with interest, licking it up with her outer particles of wispy gas and slushing it around like a connoisseur would wine. It tasted better than Martin's annoyance and anger, but she wasn't sure it was her favorite feeling either. She would have to see, if she could catch Martin out, while he was scared, to be sure. Her instincts told her the human would offer a much better flavour than her fellow Pokemon. Martin said words, and Tergi pulled out of her exploration to hear what she was supposed to do. She smiled wider yet, excited at the opportunity to play. Astonish was such a fun thing to throw around. (Ooc: Tergi uses Astonish)

Still in absoulte terror that it's attack seemed to hit Tergi doing almost nothing Weedle's terror only gred as Tergi smiled at the small bug. It was not hard to blame the bug for being scared as it's only offensive option was still as worthless as ever meanwhile the look on Tergi's face suggested she was planning something to scare it even worse than it already was. The uncomfortable feelings Weedle got as Tergi suddenly began to move around in an erratic pattern did not help calm it's nerves and when she suddenly vanished Weedle began to panic trying frantically to locate the spirit before she could strike. Unfortunately for Weedle Tergi was an intelligent ghost who knew how to use her bodies lack of solid material to her advantage. While Weedle looked around she snuck under the ground and popped up behind the bug before engulfing the bug in her bodies fumes. Weedle could hardly breathe as it struggled to escape her grasp. Somehow the bug fought off the suffocation efforts and gained some distance from her as she took great delight in nearly taking the last breath from the bug. Weedle was beyond terrified at how easily Tergi could end it's existence at any time but for now it remained alive and it had to try something to scare her off before all hope was lost. With no other option than Poison Sting at it's disposal the bug fired more small poison covered needles towards Tergi who merely shrugged off the attack life she had the first one. Weedle began to feel hopeless as it looked into Tergi's eyes. Nothing it could do could do any meaningful damage to the spirit and it was not sure if it could take another dose of the specters poisonous gas. Weedle began to cry out for help knowing it could not win this battle on it's own hoping help would arrive before it was too late. Pokemon Battle

Martin Growth GardenerTergi laughed with delight, when she managed to catch the Weedle unaware. It was like a game of hide and seek to her. The Weedle's apparent horror she didn't pay much attention to, but its sudden attack of hopelessness was like a bucket of cold, dark liquid. Tergi froze in the middle of her joy, and immediately covered to the ground. She didn't want the Weedle to feel bad about her game. Much more carefully she circled the Weedle, trying to catch its eyes again, so she might be able to calm it down and guide it to sleep instead. Martin opened his mouth to give his next order, only to discover Tergi's demeanor change. He frowned, and kept silent. What had the Weedle done to make her change tactics so fast? Nothing as far as he had seen. He touched her Pokeball considering, but let her finish whatever she was doing. In her last battle, he had wanted to catch the opponent Pokemon. Maybe she thought he wanted this too. (Ooc: Tergi uses Hypnosis)

As the frightened Weedle still tried to cling to whatever hope it still had left of not becoming Tergi's victim however that was looking all but guaranteed as Tergi was toying with it at this point. The specter looked at the bug with great determination and as Weedle tried to turn away and avoid the spirits gaze however the spirit seemed to be able to control the bug's mind as it found itself unable to turn away from her stare. Being forced to look Tergi in the eyes Weedle soon realized what the spirit had planed to do to it. Her eyes began to glow a bright purple as hypnotic waves made their way towards the bug's eyes. Weedle began to sway from side to side for a moment before collapsing to the ground with a thud. As the bug lie snoring on the ground it was helpless. All it could do was snore without making a single move while it's slumber continued to prevent any hope of escape. Once Tergi was sure the bug was in a deep slumber her eyes returned to normal as she stuck out her tongue and smiled at her work. Weedle had no idea what she had planned for it and with how deep a sleep it was in it would more than likely not be able to detect anything at all even if whatever Tergi did could cause it any pain for the time being it would not even be able to feel it. Maybe it was an act of mercy she was showing the bug as she knew it could not win or maybe it was just the fact that Tergi wanted to mess with her foe's mental state more before winning the battle but either way the battle was totally one sided by now. Only time would tell if Weedle would wake up in time to face Tergi's attacks or if it's slumber would numb any pain it would have to endure however it was clear that this battle was not ready to end just yet. Martin Growth GardenerTergi hovered by the Weedle, when it slumped to the ground, and she turned her eyes to Martin. She was surprised to find she couldn't gauge his feelings. His face could have been made of stone, no waves of emotions curled around him. She slunk further down to the Weedle, unsure. She had hoped to figure out what to do next from Martin, but his guard left her with no options to pick from. She let wisps of smoke play around the Weedle. She didn't feel inclined to attack it anymore, so she just picked at it like one who had lost its appetite. Martin was just as much at a loss as Tergi. He calculated fast, trying to find the best solution to the dilemma. He didn't exactly know what felt so wrong about Tergi's behaviour. He just didn't like it, something nagging him. In the end he breathed out slowly, and walked the few steps up to her and the Weedle. He had admired the Weedle's acrobatic skills before. "Playtime is over," he told Tergi, and dropped an empty ball down on the sleeping bug. While they waited for the result, Martin stared into Tergi's eyes. (Ooc: Martin used a Pokeball, self-deducting)

As Martin chucked the Pokeball forward, it soared through the air on with a swift curve and found itself dabbing against the Weedle's wriggly body. Absorbing it in a red light, the Pokemon was covered from head to toe as it was digitised and scooped into the centre of the spherical capture device. Falling to the floor with a plonk, the capture was now under way. Rocking back and forth, it was processing the newly acquired Pokemon. Once... Twice... Thrice...

Martin Growth GardenerIt was Tergi who yielded in the end, but only because the click sounded from the ball, and she turned to take a look. Martin picked it up, and called her back at the same time, putting her ball back in the lone pocket, while he weighed the new capture in his hand. He considered briefly, if he had made the right choice. It wasn't exactly the most useful of bugs, but then if it turned out, he couldn't use it, it wouldn't be the first time he had gotten rid of unwanted Pokemon. He stashed it away, and hurried the last part to Cherrygrove. It was high time to find warmth and shelter.
Once more Martin was lucky to land a job, and he spent several days working for an old man. The weather wasn't quite on the agreeable side, but it didn't interfere too much, and he got done in the end. The most memorable thing he got out of the work, was a pair of bright running shoes. The old Gent was somewhat eccentric, but he was one of the rare few people, Martin had found to agree with without having to play pretend. Now he was free yet again, and he felt like taking a short trip to route 30 one more time. He had spent a lot of effort training Dros, Juun and Phyllis how to do garden work, and he was starting to feel progress in this regard. This meant he could begin on someone else, and Martin needed the wild areas of route 30 as training ground for a new pair of trainees. Before Martin went out for the new day however, he found a trinket. The trinket he had come across in a random pocket of a stranger, one day he had accidently bumped into the person on the street. Okay, so it might not have been that accidental. His fingers had been itching, and no one deserved such a valuable looking thing, when they waved it around like that. Martin had kept it hidden for a day or two to ward off suspicion, but it was time to hide it in plain sight. He had allowed Thief his free movement out of his ball again, and Martin fastened the trinket around his neck now. Thief shook his head, and tried to eye the piece. It jiggled a tiny bit. It wasn't exactly a bell. If Thief moved careful enough, he would still be able to move without sound. Martin gave a sharp nod in satisfaction. "When you can move around without alerting me to your presense, you've come a long way." He explained to the cat. The weather still had a tendency to turn bad, but Martin disliked dawdling. It was time to get out there. He took the new additions, along with the ones he had chosen as guard, and returned to the route outside Cherrygrove. There he started to look for an area with a good variety of plants. He had every intention of starting at the basics like he did with Dros. (Ooc: Still Route 30.
