When Martin’s Amulet Coin was pulled out and hung around the young Purrloin’s neck, it seemed to attract a few admirers. The treasure wasn’t exactly a common one around these parts, and a couple of people started to approach the young gardener to ask what it was. However, neither of them seemed to deem it worth the risk to actually converse with him about it, perhaps feeling it might seem invasive… or perhaps just being a little intimidated by the impression they got from Martin once they saw him up close. Either way, the trainer would never know the answer. While he continued with the chores of being a Pokémon trainer: healing, team rotation and the like, one or two watchful eyes remained on him, and they weren’t exactly subtle about it either. Eventually leaving the Pokémon Centre with his new bargaining chip stored away safely in Bill’s PC, Martin once again returned to Route 30. As he did so, a keen pair of eyes watched him all the way, slowly but surely following him in the shadows. As soon as he had stepped deep enough into Route 30 that the city folk could no longer see him clearly, a voice shouted out from behind him. “Hey, mister! Tha’nice little tresha ya got… c’n I see it?” The slightly garbled English came from a young girl, who now raced into view and tackled Martin. Almost as soon as she’d realised what she’d done, however, the girl bounced back off of him and raced a few yards ahead of him, turning to face him once more with a smirk on her face. “Akchally… imma be onnist. I wannit. Waddya say you’n’I battle f’rit? I’ll giv’ya loadsa munny if ya win!” She pulled out a Pokéball and threw it onto the ground in front of her. A small, yellow rodent Pokémon appeared just seconds later and stretched its muscles, sparks flying from its pink cheeks. The kid and her Pichu didn't seem likely to give up the idea of a battle, regardless of how keen Martin was.
Picnicker Katie wants to battle and has sent out her Pichu (Level 6)! Please select a Pokémon and attack.

Martin Growth GardenerMartin pretended he didn't notice the attention he and Thief got. He hadn't thought it would draw that many looks, but he went through with it anyway, having determined he could play the amulet off as a newly aquired collar for the cat. Playing none the wiser he ventured out on the route one more time. He felt an itch on his back, the vague sense of being followed, and tried to steal glances back, but didn't really see anything. Luckily, or unluckily, he didn't have to wait for long. A girl popped up from behind, practically tackling him in her eagerness to get to him. The physical touch was so sudden, and disappeared just as abruptly, that Martin neither had time nor need to react on it. Hurried, he put on his most jovial mask "Careful there, you don't want people to think, you are going to rob them." he pronounced clearly. He had just barely understood the girl's words. He wasn't quite familiar yet with the strange dialect of Johto. Though seemingly still careless, he watched her like a hawk, making sure she didn't jump him again, or tried to get close to the 'treasure' on Thief. "Well, I'll be honest too, then. You're not getting it, but if it's a loss it will take to dissuade you, I am more than willing to apply." He laughed "I'll even let you have a look, by sending T'ief in first. That's the closest you are going to get."Thief's ears picked up, when Martin mentioned he would let the cat go into the battle first. Martin nodded to him, and Thief strolled out in front of the small rodent. "Sand Attack" Martin said, and Thief immediately started to paw at the ground. (Ooc: Thief uses Sand Attack.)

Mouthing off again in her particularly odd dialect, the girl raised a finger to the side of her cheek and seemed very much taken still by the shiny amulet coin that Thief now wore. " Hey mister, tha'too bad becaus'th tresha would look great 'n p'chu!" Even despite his very clear dismissal of her getting hold of this, it seemed like a fight to the end would be the most effective means in fending her off. Both picnicker and Pokemon watching Thief as he strolled into the battlegrounds, they both seem in awe of how fantastically sparkly the accessory itself was. " Ooooooooooooh." She cooed, still not quite on the same page in the fact she wouldn't be getting it. The Pichu, obviously very fond of its trainer, did its best to emulate Katie's behaviour. Clasping both of its paws together, the diminutive baby rodent wiggled forward, its eyes blinking and staring deeply at the amulet coin itself. Leaving a perfect opportunity, Thief made no hesitated as he pawed forward at the ground. With a deft swipe, a cloud of sand and debris was whipped up and went straight into the Pichu's eyes. Letting out a pained shriek, it hopped up and down, around in a circle as it desperately raked at its eyes trying to clear the sand from it. Gasping, Katie seemed a little shocked by the move. " Mister n'fair! Th'a cheatin' move!" Checking up on her Pichu quickly, she looked back to the Purrlon and its trainer and threw her fists to the side. " N'ya gon' dun' it. P'chu! Use a'Thundershock!" Squeaking back in reply, the Pokemon looked blindly about but had a general idea of where the feline aggressor was. Rubbing its cheeks to build up a bit of static electricity, it shocked forward a pitiful zap which sent a small charge through Thief's body. Judging from the toll on Thief's stamina, it wouldn't be quite nearly enough. Very much aware of this, Katie eyed Martin ruefully and decided to employ a tactic that she had used before to great effect within her arsenal. " Mister, if'ya dun' g'me th'tresha, i'll scream 'n cry really, REALLY loud!" Trainer Battle

Martin Growth GardenerMartin was somewhat fascinated with how much the girl was drawn to the sight of the Amulet. He imagined she looked like a Murkrow eyeing a Meowth's nest, but no thiefing bird was taking things from this cat. Martin kept his careless smile in place, and dismissed her outrage at Thief's tricky sand. "That's talk of a sour loser. If you can't deal with an ordinary move, you shouldn't go around challenging people." He admonished in a light teasing tone. She was annoying, but there was no need to get ugly for it. Not even when she seemed to realise Thief was too strong for her, and she changed 'tactics', did he so much as raise an eyebrow. He couldn't take her serious. "And that, my friend, isn't going to help. You can go through with what you've already signed up for, or I walk away. Another Sand Attack, T'ief."Thief enjoyed the attention. It was rare he got the opportunity to be in the spotlight. He was especially delighted at the current opponent, and he licked his lips. He didn't remember the last time he had played around with a mouse. (Ooc: Thief uses Sand Attack. I did a sprite for Thief, so if that could be put as his picture, it would be nice: )

Painting a picture of the girl acting very much like a Murkrow was an astute observation. Attracted to the amulet to the point she clearly had some obsessive issues over shiny objects, she puffed her cheeks and was very much losing her cheery countenance. " Eeesh, mistah, if y'na gonna giv'it t'me, den wher'da tresha from?!" Whether or not Martin would play nice and impart such information was yet to be seen but from how the battle was turning, it was apparent she wasn't going to win it over through a victory. Although she had made a dent in Thief's health, the stinging sensation in her Pichu's eyes would only get worse as the tricky feline would dab its paw forward again in the muck, swiping up enough particles of debris which went swiftly into the diminutive rodent's face just as it had cleared out the majority of the sand attack from last time. Blinding the Pokemon doubly at this point, the Pichu let out an annoyed squeak as it blindly moved back and forth, all the while trying to clear its eyes up. " Hey! N'fair! Thunder Shock P'chu!" Trying to rally her Pokemon to strike back and win back the flow of battle, it seemed Martin's plan was taking root as the shocking display of electricity zapped from the Pokemon's cheeks and... Missed the target by a very large margin. Instead zapping off into a nearby bush, it seemed like the picnicker and her Pokemon were now at a clear disadvantage. " T'is i'nt over! P'chu can s'fight and I g'more Pokemon!" Sticking her tongue out at Martin, it seemed like she was going to be stubborn and carry on fighting. She really was going to have to learn the hard way. Martin Growth GardenerMartin laughed, when the girl next questioned where he had gotten the Amulet coin. It was halfway to cover up his surprise, and halfway to give himself time to think up a proper lie. "Knowing the right people, and having the right money," he then answered cryptically. "Got it right here in Cherrygrove from a very friendly guy, though it cost me." Partly true, and he didn't care, if she would later waste her time go looking for the guy. "We didn't bother with names," he would say if she asked. His attention returned to Thief and the battle. So far the cat had followed his orders to perfection, and doing so with an air of superiority towards the prey. For a little while it couldn't hurt to slack the reins a bit. "Good, T'ief. You may decide what's next, but leave something for Sam to play with." he said, and indicated with a subtle move of his hand one of his other Pokeball. It was almost like he hadn't heard the girl's threat of having more Pokemon, or maybe he had picked up on the word 'more', and thought to exploit the opportunity. Thief was getting more playful by the minute. The missed schock that zapped harmless through the air, made him give off a single dry laugh. Then Martin gave him free reins to do as pleased, and he circled the mouse, edging in on his prey to give it a playful dab with his clawed paws. He did pay mind that he should leave it alive, but that didn't mean he couldn't be a little rough. And just to rub it in, he kicked up an extra helping of dirt and dust as he jumped away again. (Ooc: Running shoes used - Thief uses Scratch, then Sand Attack)

Attracted to Martin by the shiny Amulet Coin hanging from Thief's neck, the young girl had been well and truly put in her place from the man's tone of voice. Being bold enough to come out and ask for the item, he had turned her down and rightly so, it was almost as if this girl had no manners at all. "Ey see..." The girl known as Katie trailed off before clapping her hands together, "Ey've just got'ta search for the man 'imself! Then ey c'n git a tresha of my own!" Prepared to search the whole of Cherrygrove in order to find this mystery seller for herself, she was strangely determined. "We c'n do dis, Pichu! Up 'en at'em!" The young electric rodent, who had its eyes filled with sand, was finding it difficult to see clearly. But still, it wasn't able to not fight. Rubbing its stubby arms across its eyelids once more, the yellow Pokemon squinted in hopes of finding the purple blur of Thief.
"We gots this! Tail Whip 'em!" With a click of her fingers, the Picnicker ordered her move but Thief was already one step ahead. Being given the go ahead to have free reign for this round, the Purrloin was quick to react. There was pleasure in flinging Sand Attack around but it was also fun to torment a confused rodent. Prancing into the Pichu's blindspot, Thief drew in closer before raising a paw and slashing downward with a clash of claws. Shrieking in surprise, it was a horrible thing to see her Pokemon so unaware of its surroundings. "Tha' cat is rite nex'to ya! Attack it!" Recoiling from the playful dab of Thief, the small Pichu turned and began to shake its tail, the movement immediately catching the eyes of Thief. Following the movement very closely as if it were a metronome, the Purrloin had lowered his defenses. This battle truly was turning into a game of cat and mouse.
Feeling that bit more playful but not able to harm the rodent any further due to Martin's request, the Purrloin instead turned and kicked up another wave of sand, blinding the Pichu further. "Grr... Thas it! Pichu, use anothe' Thundershock!" Growling to herself over the Purrloin's dirty tricks, she tried to order an attack that would perhaps end up with the cat becoming paralysed. But even that didn't happen. Releasing sparks from it's cheeks, the Pichu was so blinded that it wasn't able to see just how far away Thief had sprang. Safely sitting at a decent distance away, the Purrloin smirked to itself as it watched the Pichu trying it's best to attack something with it's Thundershock but failing every time.

Martin Growth Gardener"You do that" Martin mumbled to himself, only caring that the girl had finally turned away from the idea of getting his Amulet. Thief was playing rough, but Martin hadn't expected anything else, and as the cat kicked away from the mouse, Martin gave a sharp nod. "Alright, T'ief. Get back." Martin held out the ball of his next choice. He had hoped to familiarize the Cherubi with his ways through a little garden workout, but he might as well see, how it would pull through a fight. "Your turn, Sam. Use Leech Seed."The Cherubi had so far had an easy life. He had gotten a bit lost, and had suddenly found himself freezing stuck in unfamiliar land, and that's where Martin had come across him. Cherubi had used the latest couple of days trying to get his head around, what had happened. He tried to remember how the battle went, and what Martin and his Pokemon had said, but everything was a bit unclear from the moment terror had filled his entire body. He knew both Martin and the Bulbasaur had said something, but he couldn't for the life of him figure out what. Now Martin had brought him along for a trip, and he still didn't know what he felt about it, or how he was supposed to act. He looked at the small mouse, bumping down to the ground at his release, and he scraped his tiny feet shyly at the ground. Martin gave his order, and he recognized his new name Sam. It was a nice and simple name. He could live with that. Until he figured out his own feelings, he might as well do as told, and he prepared some seeds to shoot out. Still a bit sour that the man wouldn't hand over the pretty amulet to her and she now needed to go and track down this mysterious seller herself, Katie now realised just how much the Purrloin had been toying with her Pokemon. The poor Pichu was out of breath and with all of the sand attacks from earlier, was finding it difficult to even land a successful hit. Puffing up her cheeks, it served the girl right for being distracted by something shiny but that didn't mean she still wasn't interested in it. "Yer pretty strong Mister!" The girl chirped up, "Yer able'ta keep up wit' ma P'chu for tis long." Folding her arms loosely, the young girl wore a look of content as she nodded to herself. "Soon enuff, we'ill 'ave our own tresha. Heehee, can't wait'ta show it off ta'mah mates!" Grinning from ear to ear, it must've been nice to live the life of a simple child. It was a time that most took for granted. "D'aw. Iz'it time to say bye to da kitteh?" Wanting her Pichu to deal out a dish of shocking revenge on the feline after all of the scratching and sand, it seemed that Martin had a different idea.
Throwing forward his second choice, a rather meek Cherubi emerged from the flash and he looked plenty confused. Uncertain of the previous events that had happened to him, the Cherubi shuddered as it tried to piece together some memories but failed entirely. Especially as a shrill laugh escaped from the opponent. "Oooh! It'sa lil berreh!" The girl exclaimed, "Cute but not very strong lookin'... Unlike ma P'chu which'is both." Pointing her finger forward, the girl thought that since Sam looked so small that her weak Pichu would have a better chance. "Use Thundershock!" Calling out her attack, the tiny electric mouse managed to release a spark of electricity, which crackled through the air and came into contact with Sam. Although, the Cherubi shrugged it off, possibly not even knowing that he had been hit at all. "Hu-HUH?!" Surprised that the Cherubi was still standing, it became painfully obvious that she had no idea her opponent was a grass type or even what the Pokemon was full stop.
"Hmm, a bulky one. Use some Charm!" Though as she spoke, Sam rather hurriedly released a lone seed, which flew threw the air and landed on the chest of the Pichu. Opening up, the seed unravelling a number of vines which clung to the body of the Pichu. Trying its best to shake the attack off, the Pichu raised it's head, trying to put on a cute and charming face, as if requesting Sam to be kinder. The only problem was that the Pichu was facing the entirely wrong direction and Sam was too busy shuddering to know any better, regardless.

Martin Growth GardenerMartin almost pitied the girl, but no. Her ignorance was her loss. He was more interested in, how the Cherubi fared. However, the opponent now seemed so weak, he couldn't properly decide what Sam could withstand. He pondered what to do about it, while stalling with a careless order. "Growth, Sam." The Cherubi had been so fond of that attack during capture, he didn't think it would resist it now. Martin knew he had won this part of the battle. Leech Seed would ensure that. He could really just sit back and wait, but what was the fun in that? No, what he could do instead, now Sam was too strong for the tiny mouse, was play a gentleman. "You know what, girl. I'm going to be nice, and give you a chance." He took out a third Pokeball. "I'm going to give you something easy for your Pichu to fight." When the change was done, a Spearow squaked in the Cherubi's place. (Ooc: Sam uses Growth, Spearow changes in)

The true nature of Martin’s tactics with Thief earlier were still sinking in, it seemed, as Katie’s reaction to the last attempted move came out. “C’mon, Pichu, heez ova dattaway! Silly rat!” Katie called out, half playfully if truth be told. It seemed that the battle was rather unimportant to her now that she’d resolved to find her own Amulet Coin, and her child-like nature was showing more than ever now. “Let’s end this’n nice’n quick, s’we can ge’ a tresha fer me!” she cried out, her excitement only serving to make her speech even less coherent than before. “Gwon an’ giv’im a Thundershock!” Looking thoroughly embarrassed, the Pichu turned about quickly and tried to clear its eyes to no avail. Resigning itself to blindness, Pichu tried to seek out its opponent as its cheeks sparkled brightly. Meanwhile, Sam was glowing a little as he took in rays of sunlight from above, bulking up his body ever so slightly. “So it’s bigga... ‘kay, still g’nna die!” Katie responded quickly, which was shortly followed by a flash of lightning erupting from her Pichu. By some stroke of luck, this bold actually hit Sam square on, though it didn’t seem to affect him all that much once again. “Tsk… wha’s wiv tha’ fing?” Katie asked in total bemusement, only underlining what appeared to be a woeful lack of understanding of the basics of battling. The kid sighed, a slight frown temporarily decorating her face as her mood changed completely. “I don’ ge’it, why-?” Katie started, just before Martin recalled his Cherubi. “Wh-wha? Yer no’ g’nna le’it fight?” she asked, stunned that her opponent would just change things up like this for no real reason. The Spearow taking its place brought out a squeal from Martin’s opponent. “ITSA CUTE BIRDIE! LOOKIT!” she called loudly, seeming rather pleased. “Ma Pichu luvs fightin’ tha birdies, mister!” Katie turned her attention to Martin as she spoke, her face sporting a grin of sorts. Either she was aware of her type advantage here, or she just liked fighting Spearow for some reason. With this girl, one would be forgiven for assuming the latter. “Pichu, giv’it a Thundershock!” The little mouse responded with another fierce bolt of lightning, which this time almost grazed Katie herself as it missed its target rather spectacularly. “PICHU! WHA’THA HECK?!” Katie yelled in shock. Startled, Pichu stammered an attempt at an apology, but this lasted for all of a few seconds before the Leech Seed finally did for it. Pichu collapsed in a heap, unable to continue. “O’ ma god! I didn’ meanta...” Katie said, her demeanour turning rather penitent as if she believed she’d caused her own Pokémon’s fainting. Pulling out a pair of Pokéballs, she recalled her first partner and brought out its replacement. Exploding from the second ball was another yellow rodent. This one, however, was much bigger and a deeper colour than its predecessor. It gave a proud ‘Pika!” as it landed on the battlefield, looking ready for a real scrap. Trainer Battle

Martin Growth GardenerMartin sighed, but then opted for a gentle smile. "Well, of course it likes battling birds. They are weak against its Thundershock. What are they teaching you in school these days?" He said, recalling the words and expression of an old lady he had met often as a child. He kept a close eye on the Spearow all the while, and was actually disappointed when the Pichu failed to hit it, but he noted how the bird ruffled its feathers and looked rattled by the prospect, so it hadn't been a complete waste. He would make sure the Spearow remembered this later. Right now he would have to take care of the girl's next Pokemon, which of course was another electric type. Martin considered the bigger mouse for a moment. He was starting to miss having something that could deal with the critters fast and efficient. When this was over he would have to redeem that. Martin recalled the Spearow, and picked out a completely new ball. No more playing around. He had never used the Cottonee before, but he had no doubt it would be able to handle the Pikachu, even if it would take a while. Since he had already mentioned school, he decided he might as well continue into a small lecture. "The reason you had such trouble with Sam, is because he is a grass type. The same with this one." He let the Cottonee out. "This is August. The plant he resembles is harvested in August." Martin informed. "Electric attacks doesn't bite grass types that easily. August, kindly start with a Leech Seed."August had been bored. Ever since he had been taken out of his homeland and brought over seas, he had done nothing but sit put in his ball and see people and pokemon pass him by. He had thought that would change, when someone finally bought him, but the new trainer had just let him wither away for the longest time. But today, finally some action! August bounched into the open air, and immediately turned on the opponent. By all the fluffyness in the world, he needed to stretch. He was a bit resentful towards Martin for making him wait so long, but he couldn't say no to the opportunity to play around with a Pikachu, and he certainly couldn't refuse the use of nice, tricky seed. August shook his round body, to really fluff it up, and found some useful seeds. (Ooc: Cottonee/August uses Leech Seed)
Addition to Cottonee's profile: Name: August (Gossypium arboreum) Nature/Personality: Impish(+def,-sp.att). August isn't the nicest fairy around, but it's mainly because he gets bored so easily. He is quite trying on anyone's patience, and laughs threats off like they don't mean anything to him. This is due to the fact no threat has actually been taken into action against him yet, so he has no sense of what a real threat entails (Martin will set this straight at some point). August is a capable battler, and enjoy the rush of drawing the opponent around by the noose with his trickery. Note: Martin is mainly polite in public, but quickly grows tired of August's trickery, when alone. He is still looking for just the right button to keep August in check. The speeches from Martin might have been helpful, but the kid didn’t seem to take too kindly to the schooling. “Y-yeah, o’course I knew tha’! Jus’ aprised, i’s so weak!” Her cheeks puffed up and reddened in embarrassment while her Pikachu sighed. The larger mouse seemed to be quite used to its trainer’s behaviour. It looked back at Katie, waiting for orders to come out, but Katie was a little preoccupied with the newest battler to come out and fight. The Cottonee seemed to have her a little torn. “Aw, so cyu- wai’. Y’sed Grass?” Etched on her face now was the realisation of what a desperate struggle she might be in for. These Grass things were going to be tough to beat. She screwed her face up tightly as she considered her options, which were quite sparse in truth. “’Kay. Giv’it a Thunder Wave!” she bellowed, rather loudly in fact. Her embarrassment seemed to fire up her personality a little; that lesson from Martin had apparently had quite the negative impact. Despite Pikachu’s best efforts, the tricky August was just too quick off the mark for it to get any kind of movement in first. August spat out seeds from his cloud-covered mouth, or whatever was underneath that white mass, toward the adult rodent. Pikachu started moving to the left as a defensive manoeuvre, but slipped up and ended up face-down in the grass. “G’dam i’ Pikachu!” Katie cried out. She did at least seem to be managing the important names without slurring or brutalising the pronunciation, which was a saving grace in this battle. Upon impact with Pikachu, vines shot out of the seeds and wrapped themselves around their victim. This didn’t seem to affect the Electric type, save for a little distress and confusion. “Tha’ move ‘gen? Ge’em now!” Katie called out to her Pikachu, who did as asked. It fired out thin beams of electricity, which ensnared August in a similar manner to the earlier Leech Seed. This time, however, the electricity sunk into August’s body. The Grass type winced as he felt his muscles lock up tightly, which was followed by a similar reaction from Pikachu while the Leech Seed started to work its magic. Trainer Battle

Martin Growth GardenerMartin watched the girl get riled up from his little lecture, and smiled wider yet. It didn't matter to him, if she had known it already or not, though her embarrassment told its own story. "It's too late," Martin enlightened her all too happily, when she ordered her Thunderwave. It was too late for the girl to be smart at least. "August will drain your Pikachu's energy, even if the paralysis will make him unable to attack. It's only a matter of time." Maybe he was rubbing it in a little, but she had had it coming. "Grass types are good for learning patience, but I'll try and fasten this up a bit. August, follow up with Fairy Wind, please." There, now all he had to do was wait, and maybe get ready to leave in a hurry, if she didn't stick to her words of leaving him alone after this. Though it seemed like he had gotten her derailed from her original purpose, it wasn't in him to trust others. Thief thinks everyone steals and all that. August had trouble moving as soon the electricity touched him. It didn't hurt per se, but it did render it almost impossible to move freely. It was like invisible bands had tightened around him and held his body prison. It was worse than being bored in a Pokeball. He struggled against the bonds as fierce as a fire type, and tried to call up the magic of his wind, almost before Martin asked. Maybe the wind could loosen something. (Ooc: August tries a Fairy Wind)

(OOC: I'm sorry in advance, I did not agree to this.)
The invisible bands around August seemed to tighten, the paralysis taking effect as it stopped the Cottonee from doing its attack. The winds not coming, instead the grass type sat there unmoving. The sad truth was August wouldn't be able to attack this round. It took a few moments for Katie to realize what had happened before giggling. "'Noh mattah what you seay, I will win!" The trainer spoke, defending her stance. "Plus looke at ur poke, por l'l thin' c'n har'ly move."
Looking down at her Pikachu she said in a confident voice. "Pikachu use Thunder Shock!" Pointing her finger towards August. The yellow mouse clenched up electrical sparks beginning to form around its yellow cheaks. Then the chock was sent out, hitting the opposing Cottonee. Katie pumped her fist into the air, proud of what her Pokemon had done. Only to watch as the seeds sucked away some of Pikachus HP, the Pokemon letting off a soft cry. "C'mon tha's cheap!" The girl wined.
