Martin Growth Gardener"Like I said, it doesn't matter if he's able to move or not now," Martin responded casually. "I only tried to speed things up a bit, but it wasn't to be." Martin shrugged like he didn't care at all. Having gotten tired from standing still so long, Martin looked around for a place to sit down, and spotted a large stone at the edge of their little battle field. He walked to it and sat down, leaning back against the tree trunk behind the rock. "Keep it up, August. You just have to endure it, and keep trying." He told the Cottonee. In truth he was anxious to get it over with, but only because he had been held back in his plans to train his newer Pokemon in the way of garden work. August had the clear advantage in his point of view, so he had no doubt the Cottonee would pull through and win. August struggled on. His fairy wind hadn't succeeded in his first try, but he wasn't one to give up that easily. The extra energy from his leech seed contributed to this too, and he gave it another shot, not really paying attention to Martin. He didn't think Martin sounded all too serious, and to August it was a very serious matter, that he couldn't move. (Ooc: August tries Fairy Wind)

"Well Mister, you might be strong and patient, but if my Pikachu finishes your Cottonee then your grass type won't have anything to sap. Give it a hard Thundershock, Pikachu!" Katie hollered, frowning a bit because the battle wasn't what she had expected. Though she was also really happy that she got to see her cute Pokemon battling their best. Staring at the opponent, the seeded Pikachu was uncomfortable and annoyed by the Leech Seed wrapping around its body. The vines were quite unfitting for its cute look. Charging up electricity on its red cheeks, the Pikachu fired a weak jolt of electricity toward the opponent. While it looked a bit stronger as the shock traveled in the air, the already-paralyzed Cottonee shrugged it off due to type ineffectiveness. Then, August summoned a strange gust of wind, where the wind have sparkling, glowing things in the air. Even in broad day light you can see the glowing stuff in the wind. Katie's eyes were wide open and seemed to be mesmerized by the pretty wind.

Martin Growth Gardener"Very good, August. Keep it coming. We'll be done here soon enough," Martin encouraged, when the fairy wind finally glittered in the air to hit its mark. He kept his voice relaxed, and didn't move from his newly aquired seat. It wasn't exactly the most comfortable, but it was alright as a short resting place. The girl was an interesting case, obviously distracted by shiny things still, as her eyes got drawn in by the fairy wind. Admittedly, Martin had a thing for shiny, or rather, expensive things too. He just preferred to be more subtle about it. The girl had yet to learn that part. "Careful you don't drop your jaw." Martin teased her, hoping to snap her back to reality in time for her to see her own loss. Meanwhile, August felt the satisfaction of finally fighting through the paralysis long enough to get a wind going. Unfortunately, it didn't change anything for real. He was still trapped by muscles that spasmed uncontrollable, and he rumbled to himself, getting more furious at Martin's relaxed attitude by the minute. This wasn't how he had wanted to spend his first time out in the free air. August squinted at the Pikachu. Right now he could only take his anger out at it, but after... That Martin was so going to get it. (Ooc: August tries Fairy Wind)

As the battle was drawing to the end, it seemed like Katie's Pikachu couldn't do so well against the trickster August's stealthy leech seed. By sapping its health gradually, the Pikachu was being weakened without it know what happened, and the unskilled trainer wasn't prepared to have her cash account withdrawn. Cheering for her Pokemon, Katie was hoping to do some more damage to at least do some decent damage, but electric type move was just ineffective to a grass type. "You can do it, Pikachu! Use another Thunder Shock!"The electric mouse got a head start because of August's paralysis, and fired another jolt of weakling electricity at the grass type. The already paralyzed grass type didn't feel much from the electric attack per say, what's numbing on top of more numbing? Smiling quietly at the Pikachu, the stunned Cottonee fought through paralysis, and then summoned another glitter wind. On top of the leech seed, the Pikachu passed out after the fairy wind made it lose more consciousness. "Oooh, you won, mister! That was a really cool battle and you have cute Pokemon! Here's my money that I promised. Thank you for giving me a battle!" The young girl thanked her Pokemon and Martin, and then handed him his prize reward as she exited the scene to find a Pokemon Center.

Martin Growth GardenerWith how the girl had acted upon meeting, Martin anticipated some kind of tantrum at her loss, but surprisingly she took it as the deal it was, and handed over his prize with no hard feelings. It threw him off for a second, but he offered a casual salute and smile in return, and watched her leave while he pocketed the cash. He had just earned 3 hours worth of work in one battle, and Martin saw the opportunities. It might not be so bad to act a pokemon trainer on the side. He understood why it could be a lucrative passtime at least, but it did require that one won his battles. Martin shrugged and got to his feet. August was circling the battle field, apparently trying to drain things of energy in lack of an opponent. "Stop that, you silly fluffball. The battle is done." Martin growled not too kindly. He didn't have to keep up his pretense any more. His change in tone, made the Cottonee pause, and Martin called him back in his ball. It was time to start the practise he had planned all along. Martin restarted his search for an undisturbed place in the forest, preferable long enough away from the path, so as not to be interrupted by humans at least. However, it didn't seem like today was the day for practising garden work. Soon Martin ran across a disturbing sight of withered plants, and a lingering smell of something nauseating. Martin decided to return to Cherrygrove immediately, and check up on the News. If an accident had spilled some kind of poisoned waste into the environment, Martin preferred to read about it, rather than fall on it by sheer stupid bad luck. Insert: Clean Water for Everyone(Group Quest: Ethan and Martin)When all was said and done that day, Martin had a new Pokemon, and a new acquaintance. It had gotten late in the day, and everyone needed to get clean. There was nothing to do but postpone his practise for another day. ~~ Insert Happiness quest: Thorns and FireThe encounter with the hunter and the Police had rattled Martin a good deal, and he opted to lay low the following day. He still didn't feel entirely well either from his dip in the polluted water, so a day playing ill wasn't half bad. In the afternoon he got bored though, and decided to take a stroll around town. He had changed a bit around on his team again, even though he hadn't planned anything. He wanted to see, what he could get out of the gifted Budew from the School boy, and Dros was back on the team for the same reason. The Bulbasaur should recognize every member on the work force, and Budew would be no exception, when first Martin got it trained up properly. Besides, Dros still needed to learn how to lead. A baby Pokemon like Budew was as good a practice dummy as any. Walking the streets Martin watched the surroundings and went through his current plans. He was still awfully behind when it came to earning money, and he pondered alternatives to his current strategy. It was all good and well to have a job from time to time, and earn cash on the side as a trainer, but it still felt awfully slow. He didn't want to test his luck with the Police just yet. They were clearly present and efficient as had been shown last night. However, what he hadn't tried yet was to get his hands on some Pokemon to sell. The Travis guy had talked plenty about selling his Pokemon, and that gave Martin an idea. You didn't have to steal Pokemon from people to get someone to sell. There were plenty of wild ones around. Martin cocked his head at the thought and stole a glance into an alley he just passed by. He had noticed lately, that Meowth and Rattata were running about, sometimes being a nuisance to the people of town. Martin changed direction and went into the alley. He wanted to test it out, and at the same time he could test the Budew and Dros. He ignored the purple fur of a Rattata scampering off behind a trash bin. Rattatas were too ordinary, but a Meowth on the other hand and their affinity to shiny objects suited Martin's taste. He pulled out a coin and tried to make light reflect on its surface. Better to create your own luck. (Ooc: August learns Mega Drain, and forgets Absorb. Putting the thread on hold to take the Happiness Quest Edit: Restart. Boxing Espurr and Sandshrew, and putting Dros and Budew on team. Requesting a Meowth encounter.)

As martin walked in the allay way holding his coin. He managed to make it to shine. This shining light would be annoying for some pokemon but for one not so highly seen pokemon it attracted them. And one of those pokemon just so happened to show up, making a simple "meowth!" as it peaked it's head out. it then saw what was shining, a coin. It walked closer to martin looking at the coin seemingly wanting it. "MEOWTH!" It stood there looking at the coin that was shining. maybe martin would give it too him? who knows but Meowth was ready to fight if need be to get that coin. A wild Pokemon (Level 06) has appeared! Please select a Pokemon to use in battle or Flee! Clear Weather will be in effect.

Martin Growth GardenerMartin smiled satisfied, when a Meowth was lured by his little trick. He let the light dance on the ground to lure it nearer, and kept his coin visible, so it wouldn't run off immediately. "You want it?" he asked rhetorically, recognizing the look of want in its eyes. "Show me your worth first." he added carefully, and took out a Pokeball with his free hand. He figured Budew should be able to handle the Meowth. It didn't look that strong again. Letting the Budew out to start, he took a look at its information. He hadn't really checked when he first received it, since he was busy at the time. He winced at the name, the boy had given the little grass type. There was no way he called it Buddy. Martin gave it a quick thought, and landed on a compromise. It was still simple, but at least he could pretend it had something to do with the Rose like being it would evolve into. "I will call you Blue from now on, Budew, so Blue, capture that Meowth in a Stun Spore."Buddy was curious when the new trainer let him out in what seemed a battle situation. Jimmy had never blatantly started fights. The boy had been pretty reserved and careful in that regard, and Buddy hadn't expected any change from the norm, when he was handed over to the trainer that rescued them just the day before. The new trainer was a lot older, nearly ancient in the eye of the Budew, and children and old people didn't fight in his experience. Apparently he was mistaken. He used a moment to reevaluate his viewpoint, and then took delight in the fact, that he was actually send out to fight. He didn't care for the name change. He was fighting and didn't even have to wait for Chimy and Rily to have first turns. He gladly produced a cloud of spores. Budew acknowledged; will update once I get back from eating. The Meowth purred happily at the idea of being able to earn this shiny coin if it proved itself. It was perhaps not the wisest Pokémon that Martin would ever meet, believing that he'd part with his treasures so easily, but that was by the by. It had yet to fight, of course, and battle strength was the important factor. Blue popped out of his Pokéball, chirping cutely as he landed on the concrete in front of his trainer. Hearing his new name, Blue looked a little confused at first. He was quite used to his old name, after all. However, the past was the past and Blue seemed to recognise this quite quickly. He bowed his head down, shaking it violently to release a cloud of yellowish spores. The thick haze drifted gently toward Meowth, who was very much unsure as to what was going on. Before it had a chance to catch on, though, it inhaled a large portion of this dust and immediately noticed its muscles twinging. The Stun Spore was doing its duty. Meowth jerked its limbs here and there, trying to get its own body to do what it wanted. The newfound paralysis was inconvenient, but the feline felt like it was capable of working through it for the moment. Getting down on all fours, it changed the pace of the battle in a heartbeat by racing toward Blue. The little Budew squeaked in shock at the speed with which Meowth was still able to move. In just a split second, Meowth slashed across Blue's face with its razor-sharp talons, leaving a temporary red mark on its opponent. Blue was being welcomed to the squad in the harshest manner possible. Wild Battle

Martin Growth GardenerMartin loved it when creatures were gullible. It made them so much easier to fool. He took a step back, and pocketed the coin behind his back, while 'Blue' succeeded in covering the Meowth in his spores. It looked to be working trememdous. "Shake it off, Blue. That was only a little scratch. You can stand much more than that" Martin told the Budew calmly, when it looked disturbed by the attack of the Meowth. He had to remind himself it was still just a child, and he actually didn't know how much experience it had with fighting. "Use Absorb now. It will help you keep going, and drain the cat of energy at the same time." He added, and even made an effort to explain the attack, in case the Budew didn't know its own abilities. Buddy took half a second to recognize that Martin was talking to him. Oh, right, the other name... that and he was actually participating in the battle with more than just an order of attack. Buddy wasn't used to dealing with the Pokemon right on and fresh from the start, so the strength and speed of the first attack surprised him. He shook himself, and then delighted at the name of his Absorb attack. It was the only move he had to do damage with, and he always relished when allowed to use it. He didn't really listen to Martin's following explanation, but just dived in to to try and suck the Meowth of its strength. He was all too eager to show it, that he could deal damage too. Meowth tried to shake itself free of the paralyzing effect of the spores Blue had scattered, but they were wedged deep inside Meowth's fur and there was no real end in sight. As Meowth's paw jerked awkwardly to the side involuntarily the cat let out a small screech of pain. Although it wasn't necessarily hurt, this situation was not fun in the slightest. Immediate regret at this battle coursed through the small feline and it's eyes darted from side to side in an attempt to find any escape route. Martin's eyes would catch Meowth trying to escape though, and the piercing gaze from the trainer would haunt it until it escaped this battle via victory or fainting. As realization crept into the Meowth's brain, it realized there were more Pokeballs on Martin's belt. It was stuck here until Martin was finished toying with it. What was Meowth's purpose? All of this for a silly coin. Blue readied itself, planting it's feet firmly in the dirt below as it prepared to attack. Meowth was trying to move, but to no avail. The scratching attack did seem to work before, but as the feline tried to step forward, nothing was happening. It's foot jerked up and it's tail sagged as Meowth fell on it's chin with an unceremonious thud. Paralysis was taking over, and Meowth could only sit on the ground and twitch as it watched Blue reach out with a nubby foot. The feline glew green for a moment before a sharp stinging sensation bit at it. Blue instantly felt refreshed, almost back to top, fighting fit. Although it wasn't enough to knock out the Meowth, it was still uncomfortable. Add in the fact that Meowth couldn't fight back and this was pure torture. Would Martin really subject poor Meowth to an entire battle full of smal-hit Absorbs? Meowth hoped not. When the second one came, it was the same thing. Meowth could do nothing. Martin Growth GardenerMartin didn't care to see how well the cat fought. He only looked for the moment when it looked too weak to fight back. It wasn't like he intended to catch it for himself, so its capabilities didn't matter. When it didn't manage to fight back against Blue's drain, Martin decided it was enough. If it could do nothing but lay down and twitch, the capture should be easy enough. "Pause, Blue. That's good enough. Stand by while I get it in a ball." He ordered the Budew, and threw a Pokeball before checking if Blue actually did as told. Buddy felt he was only getting started, when Martin told him to back down. Here he thought he was supposed to go all out, and then the new trainer just wanted to catch the opponent. Hesitantly, he stopped his approach, which was lucky enough, since he would otherwise have been in the way of the Pokeball sailing through the air. He backed away a few steps more, preparing for a failure to happen. He had watched once as Chimy had to take the hit of an escaping Pokemon. It had been quite a shock at the time. Now though, he knew that much and didn't want to be taken on the wrong root. (Ooc: Martin uses a Pokeball)

The wild feline struggled to move, grumbling quietly as it raced through scenarios in its head. It still really wanted that coin, it had to have that coin. But... the pollen that had stuck to its fur was still numbing its body and stiffening its movement. Meowth glared down at the little green plant making for another attack before being called back by his trainer. The cat blinked a couple times in confusion before the faintest smile crept upon its face. Meowth's attention ascended onto the human and noted the ball in his hands. Meowth mewed with determination, taking a jarred step forward and stretching its paw outward as if it was in arms reach of its goal. If only it could just stretch further... The pokéball slapped it in the forehead and sucked the wild pokémon inside. There was barely a struggle. The ball waggled for a second before chiming success. VICTORY! Martin Growth GardenerSatisfied he had calculated correctly Martin picked up his capture without further ado. "Good enough, Blue. I do believe you will fit well on my garden team." Martin told the Budew in a calm voice. Not that he was actually sure, but for now he needed to behave like the person its original trainer had met. He pocketed the new ball while speculating his next step. He had felt a bit restless the last few days, and considering he didn't want to risk a reputation in this region, it might be time he returned to Falkner for a rematch. Maybe he could stay some of the restlessness by exploring Violet. He hadn't exactly spend much time in the city last time, and there was plenty he hadn't seen yet, and maybe even a job or two. Martin nodded to himself in his decision and recalled the Budew only just remembering to offer it a 'thank you'. Martin noted, he really wasn't used to acting 'normal' towards Pokemon. It was a behaviour he saved for humans, but knowing that some Pokemon actually only evolved by 'liking' their trainer this could be a problem he would have to correct. He would need a Pokemon to practise on he realised, and it wouldn't do with Budew since it would only seem odd, if he changed his ways from one moment to the other. Martin sighed and returned to the Pokemon Center though he hadn't been out for long. He better just make his preparations and get going.
