Upon venturing throughout the ridges, contours, and paths in the union cave, Warren and his companions had made their way to Azalea. As Warren crawled out of the cave, he was greeted by a large meadow of flowers! Azalea was certainly in bloom for spring, much like many of the other cities in the first third of the Johto region. The tulips and peonies swayed in the cool spring breeze, the sun shined down with a heavy dose of vitamins for the blossoms. This would be a paradise for Pokemon like Budew or Cherubi!
Warren had no time to stop and smell the roses, he was on track for the gym. Having just taken on Falkner, he was ready for more action. Usually he’d be a little worried for a gym battle, but after doing so well in the last one, he was confident that his ice Pokemon were much more powerful than he had first expected. It would be quite the interesting battle, Warren decided he would use his Swinub and Smoochum in this gym battle. Both were slightly lowered level than the opponent’s Pokemon, but the type advantage was there to even out the battle. It would certainly be a battle for the record books!
Warren opened the door, wondering what he would find inside. “A bunch of gaudy bug type décor? We get it, you like bugs.” Warren said, not seeing a gym leader anywhere. Hopefully no one heard him say that, or it would be quite the awkward experience. Warren called out Swinub, the antlered little pig seemed quite confused about their location. “We’re in a bug gym. AKA we’ll probably be out of here in like 5 minutes.” Warren said, insinuating that the foe’s Pokemon were naturally much weaker. The trainer began walking towards the center of the gym, taking a peak about the insides. ((Adding 310 words to the incubator and putting exp share onto Cleffa! I just need a Falkner spawn.))

Bugsy sat off in his room, just off to the side of the battle field. He was researching bugs, what was great to feed them and if this made there coats shinier. But he put down the book on the sound of someone opening the door to his gym, with a crooked smile he got up from his desk. He was excited for a battle, to show off his bug Pokemon. Well until he heard what Warren had to say about his bug decor he let out a little sigh to him self. No one liked bugs like he did, but that was ok.
He popped out of his room into Warren's view with a big grin. "Welcome to my gym! I'm bugsy, and as you guessed correctly. I am a bug type specialist. Though by the sounds of it we do not share the same love for bug Pokemon I'd be honored to accept your challenge" He said with a pure grin on his face. "After, defeating me you'll gain the Hive Badge it will be my pleasure to show you my bug type. Go Metapod" A pokeball was throw onto the field.
You have challenged bugsy to a battle! He sent out a level 18 Metapod Will you fight or flee?

Warren was taken aback by the gym leader’s odd disposition. Why was he so happy? What in the world was there to be this happy about? This rotten attitude was incredibly off-putting, Warren had no idea how to react to this cheerful freak. “Ummmm….. yeah. I’m not too sure what to say.” Warren said, constantly stating what was on his mind. The two were completely different people, almost opposites of each other. Warren had some great Pokemon to use against Bugsy, a variety of ice Pokemon as well as a fire Pokemon put him in good hands for this match.
Bugsy threw out a Metapod, Warren had to stop himself from gasping. That’s it? That’s all this legendary trainer was going to use? A Metapod? Warren tried to subdue his shock and disappointment, surprised that this cocoon was even on the battlefield. “Don’t you think that a Metapod is a little… boring? Surely there’s better bug type Pokemon in Johto that you could catch so you don’t have to use this thing. It’s not even fully evolved yet…” Warren said, unimpressed. He would never even think about using a Metapod, not even a Butterfree! Those meek bugs could barely do anything! At least set your sights for something more exotic like a Wormadam!
As Warren contemplated why Bugsy would use such shitty Pokemon, he had to begin to think about which Pokemon he would use. Smoochum was definitely getting a lot of attention, so perhaps it was best to shift gears and go for some of his back row! Yes, Warren would leave his starters on the bench for this first round, it’s time to use one of the other guys. “Go, Moo.” Out came the camel Pokemon, which Warren had initially mistaken as a cow at first meeting (hence the name), but Moo was still an important part of his squad, nonetheless. “Use your Ember attack twice!” Warren said, cheering on the precious little camel Pokemon. Out came a series of hot, fiery coals heading straight for that empty shell of a bug. This pest was in for a good battle! ((You can basically just go by the dialogue, the rest of the text is just filler. Using Ember x2 by activating running shoes. Putting 352 words into the incubator. ))

Bugsy's hype nature had clearly caught Warren off guard as he barely managed to utter a reply, it was expected to run into all kinds of people as a gym leader but Bugsy had a hard time trying to get a good read on the challenger but his misconception of Metapod being weak was one thing he wanted to put a stop to as soon as he could. " I can assure you that Metapod is quite capable of holding its own in a battle with the proper training, it is true that most of them are a weak bug but mine has undergone special training so do not underestimate her." Bugsy said as Metapod began to chomp its teeth ready to show off what she could really do. As Warren had already issed orders for his attacks Bugsy was all too happy to answer in return. " It really is a shame how many people think bug types are weak but I do believe by the end of this battle you will learn just how strong they can be. Metapod use Bug Bite twice and show him an example of your own strength." Metapod somehow even outpaced Moo as she jumped in front of the fire type camel and bit her on the nose. After shaking the bug off she managed to fire an ember attack of her own causing considerable damage before both Pokemon got ready to strike again. " Good Job Metapod just one more time and then we can slow this battle down a bit. I like to bide my time in battles over rushing through them." As Bugsy finished talking Metapod made her move again and but Moo on the nose again. As she did however Moo was able to get off a slightly more powerful ember at point blank range scoring a direct hit. " Great job Metapod, I know those attacks must have hurt a lot but you are still in this. The more damage you are able to do the easier this match will be down the line. The pace of this match should calm down now that we have finished our opening salvos." As he looked over at Warren and took a deep breath Metapod began to quiver as the damage she had taken was quite severe. Bugsy knew the next hit would bring her down but as she had the speed to strike first he knew she would get one final blow in before being knocked out. " Metapod hang in there a bit longer so we can make things easier on our friends. After this match I will make sure we get you fixed good as new. Those Embers took a lot out of you." Hoping the display had at least made Warren aware of how tough bugs could be he asked the challenger what he had thought of the first two rounds. " I hope my Metapod's brave stand has taught you a few things. If you think this battle has been tough so far you have not seen anything yet." His ace up his sleeve had yet to be revealed and the longer he could go without having to pull it out the easier it would be to win this battle. Battle

Warren had to hold in a laugh as Bugsy spouted off praise for his bug type loyalty. How foolish! This gym leader was supposed to have good Pokemon, yet he has two of the weakest Warren has ever seen! Although they possess some defensive capabilities, they were nothing to write home about. Warren tried not to be disrespectful toward one of the most famous citizens of Johto, but it seemed difficult as the Pokemon he was facing were not to normal standards of a regular gym. “But… don’t you prize rare Pokemon? How come you don’t have anything like a Yanma or Heracross?” The idea of a trainer being able to take pride in common Pokemon was foreign to him. Didn’t everyone else want exotic Pokemon on their team?
“I applaud your bug’s stamina in battle, but it stands no chance against my team of powerful rarities I’ve befriend across my journey. Maybe one day I’ll see your fascination with these little critters, but it’s just not my thing.” Warren said, proud he was being cordial. The coordinator continued to have the thought regarding rare versus common Pokemon in the back of his head, speculating how trainers go through different bonds with different kinds of Pokemon. “Alright, let’s get back into battle, which is what we’re all really here for. Moo, use your ember attack again.” Warren watched with fascination as his rare little camel bursted out more embers from her fiery mouth. The little camel Pokemon seemed to invest little care into this battle, her eyes seemed to always be droopy and calm. ((Adding 264 words to incubator.))

The young gym leader's hopes were dashed a little with Warren's dismissal of how his Metapod was fairing versus the fire type. But it was only a brief moment, as the challenger finished his reply it brought some of that hope back. "Well of course I appreciate rarer bug species," Bugsy began, shifting his net to his other shoulder. "But people have this expectation that rare pokémon are better in some way. My endeavor is to make others appreciate all bug types, and to do that I need to show how even the most common ones can shine." The purple haired lad grinned ear to ear, quite pleased with himself. "Even when up against its weakness Metapod has done pretty well. I bet not many spectators would have even guessed it'd survive this long. In the end you have the upper hand of course, but Metapod's still not done." The cocoon pokémon agreed, calling out its name with a determined huff. "Let's go Metapod, a Tackle attack this time!" The energetic bug expert thrust a finger toward Moo and Metapod went forth. String flying from its body to latch onto a near tree branch the otherwise immobile bug type swung through the air toward the fire pokémon. It was perfect aim, the hardened cocoon smashing into Moo's side, but it was no more impactful than those bug bites had been. Moo responded. With Metapod now stationary nearby the camel let fly a burst of embers. There was no escape. The fire easily sapped what was left of the bug's strength. It was hard to tell from afar, since Metapod didn't really move much to begin with, but Bugsy let out his congratulations and recalled his precious bug. "That's one down," he started, fingering his other two pokéballs. It seemed he was trying to decide which one to throw out. "Well... since you're more interested in rarer bug types, how about I show you one?"

Warren listened to what the gym leader had said about his Pokemon. Although they were common and not renowned as the strongest, Bugsy knew how to utilize their specialties very well. The mischievous coordinator was quite pleased with how his Numel took down the Metapod, what great form his little camel had! “Good job Moo.” She seemed unphased by his praise, she looked off into the distance. Warren could never tell what she was thinking about, maybe the volcanos in Hoenn?
As soon as Scyther appeared, Warren’s jaw dropped. He pondered if he’d bit off more than he could chew with this battle, but it had been too late to run away with his tail between his legs now. Moo seemed uninterested in the long praying mantis Pokemon, but Warren was shaken with uncertainty. “I guess you do have some rare Pokemon…” Warren said, unsure of what he could do now that he was up against a monster. He thought about how much damage those huge blades for arms could do, especially against his poor little Smoochum? She was weak against bug type Pokemon, so perhaps it was not a good idea to throw her in the ring yet. Although Warren still could get some STAB with Moo, he thought it’d be best to switch in for a Pokemon at full health. “Go Anya. I’ll be using my Swinub now, hopefully she’ll be able to combat your Pokemon’s long blades, Bugsy. Use your Powder Snow.” Warren said. Moo returned to her ball and Anya stared confusingly at the large bug Pokemon and its weird form. Surely she had never seen something like it in the ice caves of where she was from. Bugsy was grinning ear to ear, barely able to contain his excitement. It was quite the contrast to his challenger, and it was perhaps Warren's withdrawn demeanor that kept Bugsy from giggling like a little girl. This quivering on the gym leader's part wasn't about Warren's surprise with the appearance of scyther of course. No. He had something planned, and with the coordinator's comment about combating his prized bug's intimidating arm span with distancing snow flakes Bugsy became even more giddy. "Haha, if you think so! I haven't seen many pokémon like that before, minus the antlers, so maybe you'll surprise me," he winked, bringing his net down from his shoulder with a bit of a twirl before setting the butt end on the ground beside him. "This will just be a quick peak of my rare bug pokémon for now. So you know what you'll be up against if you can get passed my boring old Kakuna." As if a general wielding a spear he tipped the bug catching net forward and shouted his orders to the tall green mantis pokémon busily swiping her bladed arms together. "U-Turn!"Anya blinked and Scyther was gone. A green wind on a backdrop of healthy bushes and trees, whipping along the ground and coming up on the adorable festive pokémon in a flash. It's natural speed was incredible, faster than some of the quick attacks she'd seen in the past. The gleaming arm blades came down like lightning, tearing through Anya like butter but... she had one saving grace: the eviolite. The gooey purple stone deflected a portion of the attack allowing the antler swinub to just barely cling to consciousness. Her head was swimming and once again she had lost sight of Scyther. There was another flash of light. At first Anya thought it was her vision going thanks to the flush of pain, but then she realized that it had a source close to Bugsy. The ice pokémon tried to shake back into focus, spotting a vibrant color and gleam of a hardened shell. Without further thought she sent forth a breeze of powdered snow toward the stout figure. The dry frosty powder collected on the yellow cocoon, of who responded with a displeased rumble. It wasn't Scyther, but at least she'd hit something. "Even the basic bug types have a role to play to take advantage of their strengths," the bug enthusiast chimed.

My my my, how the tables have turned. Warren had not seen this twist of fate coming, the cocoon Pokemon were bait to switch out in so that Scyther could easily U-Turn its way throughout the battle! With those hard shells, they could take plenty of beatings by many of the Pokemon who would challenge this gym. Warren rubbed his temples, stressed out from the sudden change in plans. He thought this would be a cake walk with his ice Pokemon, but it was turning out to be a nightmare. This Scyther had a lot of brawn to it, Warren thought deeply about what his next move should be.
Warren was left speechless, he was eating his words regarding how weak and boring Bugsy’s Pokemon were, as now they were posing him quite the threat. The man in the long trench coat decided a new route of action, perhaps it’d be better to stick with Anya the Swinub for right now. She had some speed to her and Warren assumed that these bugs couldn’t be too fast; they didn’t even have legs! “Well… I certainly underestimated you that’s for sure.” Warren said with an awkward laugh. Oh, boy. This is awkward. “Well Anya, use your powder snow attack!” Warren hoped that the little ice Pokemon shelled out one more wallop before biting the dust. Sometimes it took a sacrifice, but Warren would treat his little cutie for some of her favorite berries post-battle for a job well-done. ((247 words to incubator. Using powder snow againnn))

A final gambit? Things weren't looking great for the Antler'd Pokemon, this Swinub. Although it had some impressive attacks, Kakuna and Metapod were well known for their defensive capabilities. Bugsy's mind swirled with the possibilities of this Hail Mary play. By setting Anya to full offense, Bugsy felt the need to do the same. His dried routine of building defense could wait until the next Pokemon. Scyther would be coming out a bit more prematurely than expected otherwise. "Glad I still have a few tricks up my sleeve to keep promising challengers like you on your toes!" Bugsy smiled, resting against his net for a moment before giving his command. Kakuna had been waiting long enough. Anya would be coming soon.
"Kakuna! It's gonna be a close one! Give me a Bug Bite!" While the cocoon had no way of truly nodding it's head without moving it's entire body, there was still an air of confidence and acknowledgement in the bug Pokemon. While the damage might not be close, the speed certainly would. Most wild born bug Pokemon, especially Kakuna and Metapod, wouldn't be the fastest group in the bunch. When raised with a caring hand, like Bugsy... this wasn't the case. With a surprising amount of speed, Kakuna began to tilt forward and move itself to charge at Anya. Since the Swinub was prepping a ranged attack, it was up to Kakuna to speed forward instead. The ice and snow was building up in front of Anya as Kakuna sped closer. It was incredibly close, and the gnashing teeth of the Kakuna had almost brushed against Anya, but the icy blast just BARELY managed to hit the bug first. Momentarily stunned by the damage, Kakuna took a second before biting down on the furry, antlered challenger. It was over.

Anya has fainted and you owe some big time berries, and lost 1 Happiness...
"Wow! What a way to go out! Your Anya really gave my Kakuna a whallop! That was so close, I can't believe it!" Bugsy gasped, looking over his shelled Pokemon briefly. When he'd deemed that Kakuna was still fit for battle, and that the shell hadn't cracked or been breached, he set the Pokemon back down on the battlefield. "I have to admit, I was a little worried. Still am! You seem to have quite the interesting Pokemon, i'm curious to see what you're going to introduce me to next! I was a bit surprised to see the speed comparison of those two as well. You may have something as fast as my Scyther at this rate..." There were ways to lose gracefully, or win gracefully. While Bugsy wasn't in this predicament often, it was best to handle it with as much grace as he did when having to hand over badges. And to be fair, Warren did send out Pokemon he hadn't quite seen before. There was always that element of surprise, shock, and worry.
"After all, you've seen what's to come. I can't wait for that final showdown!"
Kakuna still lives! Will you send out another Pokemon?

Warren grimaced as his poor little cutie was knocked out of battle. Poor thing. She fought valiantly, but even Warren’s ice type Pokemon couldn’t get through Bugsy’s tough bug types. He pondered what was next, which Pokemon would be best to finish off this cocoon Pokemon? He decided perhaps it’d be best to go back to Numel, Moo had a great new move to use out since she defeated the previous cocoon. “Alright, I’ll be using Moo once more. My trusty Numel took out your Metapod and she’s ready to do it again with your venomous Pokemon!” Warren attempted to keep his spirits up after embarrassingly losing Anya after confidently boasting about his Pokemon which we much more underleveled that the gym leader’s. Warren attempted to keep a good attititude and poker face on even though he felt so embarrassed after seeing Scyther’s intense power.
“I know you might want to see some of my other Pokemon but I’m sure Numel will be able to surprise you with her interesting movepool.” Warren was very proud of his Pokemon, having a special affinity with his little Numel as he loved the Hoenn region. “Although she’s not very fast, she has some fun tricks up her sleeve! Use your Flame Burst attack!” Warren watched with anticipation as the fire attack hurled towards the Kakuna, hoping that something good would come of it. He could really use the extra luck. Bugsy didn't seem to mind when trainers switched up their strategies, although it did hurt his heart a little when they would choose super effective types against him. Many underestimated their Pokemon and would boast on having to not use type effective moves, and then end up doing so. It was those situations that made being the Gym leader worth it. Forcing those to push themselves. While Warren didn't seem like one of those brash types, it was obvious Bugsy had backed him into a corner. "Don't beat yourself up! It was a good run. That Antler'd Swinub really packed a punch. If my Kakuna hadn't been so tanky I'm sure it probably would've fallen there." Bugsy hadn't gleaned over Warren's grimace.
"Ah, Numel again, eh? Well, she was a strong opponent for Metapod. Let's see how Kakuna fares!" Hiding his nervousness, Bugsy watched the slow Numel enter the field. Speed would be best. But durability, too. "Kakuna, while they settle who will be fighting, give me an Iron Defense! Can't let that Numel get to you, no matter what her movepool might bring to us." More than likely an Ember again, unless there was a trick up Warren's sleeve? Kakuna did as it was told and hardened itself, preparing for oncoming attacks. Numel had just been brought out, which gave Kakuna a little bit of time. "A fair trade off, I feel. Let's see what your Numel has to show! Meanwhile, Kakuna! Take advantage of your speed and go for a Poison Sting!"
There was no debate on which Pokemon was faster. That being said, Kakuna reacted quickly and sent the poison nettles hurtling towards Numel. Without having to shuffle over for a physical bug bite attack Kakuna could take advantage of the time and speed. The attack stung Numel, but it didn't matter. Moo had a plan. Moo had to burn all the things. She inhaled, closed her eyes, and let out a cry as her back erupted into flames that licked everything near her. Kakuna was washed in a cascade of fire. The cry of pain from the bug couldn't be heard over the sea of crackling embers left in the attack's wake.

Bugsy blinked at the aftermath, using his net to prod the body of the Kakuna. "Oh man, fainted all right. No doubt about that! What an attack!" Although his bug had been burnt to a crisp, the leader still seemed relatively happy. "Quite the trade indeed! Thank you for showing me that move. Quite the uh, explosion!" He chuckled. "You've still got one more Pokemon though, and while your Numel may be slow, Scyther is most definitely not." As if on cue, Scuther's pokeball opened once more to reveal the dashing, darting blur of green. It was only when Scyther settled in front of Bugsy that it came into clear picture. It moved so fast, it was almost a blur. "This has been an excellent match so far. Will your Moo be fighting my Scyther?"
Scyther is next, and last, up. (Level 21) Will you switch out Pokemon?

Warren thought deeply about what to do next. This battle was definitely harder than he expected as I’ve mentioned like 8 times now. He was quite frustrated about having such a large task at hand. He rubbed his temples in stress. “Yeah…. I may or may not have misjudged the power of some, or all, of your Pokemon.” Battles that were this close really set Warren’s stress level sky-high. He knew that using Glameow or Cleffa was out of the question as they were still so small and inexperienced, so utilizing some of his Pokemon that were still super-effective was important. But now that Swinub was out of the battle, he had to think of a strategy to best utilize his remaining Pokemon.
“Okay I think my third Pokemon will be Tangela.” He sent out his viney friend whilst Moo came back towards him. Cleffa watched diligently from the sidelines, pondering why he’d not use Smoochum for this battle. “Okay, I’m going to use my super potion on Moo, Tangela you guard the front lines buddy.” The grass type Pokemon nodded happily and watched as the scary Scyther readied itself for another attack. The long blades attached to its arms made it quite the intimidating ‘mon. ((Using a super potion on Numel. Since she gained 6 levels through the course of battle, she’ll gained health as her HP stat increases, yes? Since her stat was at 45 at the start of battle and is now 60, she’ll gain 15 hp points +50 from super potion totaling it to a full 60. Lemme know if this is incorrect lol. Bugsy grinned. The sides of his mouth going so wide they threatened to push off of his face altogether. The boy gym leader bobbed the butt end of his long net against the softened ground as he watched the flush of thoughts race across Warren's visage. He loved making trainers think; making them crack out of the common mindset, shedding that cocoon to morph into the next stage of greater trainer. That's what he was here for. Bugsy's hands trembled with excitement as well as the satisfaction that he was pushing Warren to his limits. "Maybe. Metapod and Kakuna certainly aren't your run of the mill bugs, that's for sure. But despite my training and my bugs growing into a cut above the rest they still have their weaknesses," he offered. Scyther clashed her blades together and buzzed her wings in disagreement. Bugsy laughed. "Oh? A tangela ey? Wow, don't get to see too many of these outside of the forest. Something a bit more familiar for you though Scyther." The gym leader eyed the vine pokémon with a friendly smile, switching his net to his other hand with a hmm. "Well girl, no point in delaying. While they're busy back there why don't you warm up with a Quick Attack?"The mantis pokémon called her name with pleasure, passing the little tangela a devious look. It made Tangela shudder uncomfortably, the grass type turning his eyes away for half a second. Next thing he knew the large bug was gone! Tangela jumped back with surprise, body twisting this way and that to find his opponent; but she found him. Scyther kicked out from the right side, sending poor Tangela bouncing off of a near tree and rolling back into the battle field. By the time the vine pokémon had his wits about him again Scyther was back at her place in front of Bugsy sharpening her bladed arms. Tangela didn't have a good feeling about this.

Times were getting tough, but Warren was pretty deep into this battle. He’d already defeated two of the Pokemon, so perhaps it was best to stick through the battle instead of running away. Tangela was certainly not a decent adversary to a Scyther, Arceus knows that Tangela was a bulky defense Pokemon but Scyther had considerable advantage with his attack stat and type advantage. But switching out for another Pokemon left the new teammate open for an attack. Warren though long and hard about what to do, this threatening bug Pokemon was certainly a pain in the neck.
