Meditite got into a battle stance, well aware of what Takeshi’s long blade arms were capable of. The fighting Pokemon watched the Scyther carefully, this would be quite the intense battle. Just the design of the creature gave off a strong attack aesthetic, when you have swords for arms it was easy to intimidate other Pokemon into submission. Meditite stared carefully at Takeshi, the hail pelted it but it didn’t move. Meditiation gave it a strong mental dexterity, so the chunks of ice that were falling were easy to ignore.
Takeshi sprung quickly into the heat of battle, his long sword slashed Meditite with a powerful swipe. Due to the bug’s technician ability, false swipe gained a nice little boost to give each attack a little more umph. Meditite countered back with a confusion attack, utilizing the battlefield of the mind since it didn’t know any physical moves yet. Hail continued to pelt them both, annoying the two intense Pokemon. Again Takeshi went in for a swipe. Meditite too went with its previous move. Although false swipe would normally leave the fighting Pokemon with 1 HP, the hail was too much for the young Pokemon. Although it wouldn’t be able to join the team, it gave Takeshi a little boost in levels. Battle Weather: Hail Meditite | Level 13 | Pure Power | HP: 0% (0/34) Status: Pelted by hail x2! Used Confusion x2! VS
Takeshi | Level 17 | Technician | HP: 61% (34/56) Status: Pelted by hail x2 Used False Swipe x2!
Takeshi gained 2 levels and is now level 19!

Naive wasn't a proper word to describe Ashton's approach to battles - ignorant was one, for those who disliked him. Oblivious was probably better. Had he known what the hail meant for the battle, he may have erred on the side of caution and only asked Takeshi for one blow instead of two. But he'd made the call not knowing what would happen, and would have to reap the consequences whilst confident in his orders. Chin tucked into his scarf to ward against the bitter chill, Ashton watched through a veil of dark hair the wind was currently mussing as Takeshi easily flew over the snow on rapidly beating wings towards his wary foe. The Scyther could hardly be called content even with the promise of battle to put some fire in his heart, irritated by the cold more than he'd let on in his disdainful look to Ashton moments ago. It made his wings ache in protest, instinct telling him to retreat to somewhere warm to wait out the hail and snow. But until he obeyed Ashton, there would be no warmth or shelter to seek in the form of his ball. The mantis tried not to let this irritation show as he hovered intimidatingly over the Meditite, both scythes raised to maximize the intimidation effect. Striking out with one quick slash, holding back just enough to ensure it wouldn't knock the Fighting type out, Takeshi retreated slightly, although this move would do nothing to evade the mental attack Meditite threw out in response. It staggered him, enough to stoke his fury and prompt the follow-up blow his trainer had requested, with gusto. Even though this allowed his foe to also take another turn, the familiar psychic blow taken a little better, Takeshi was confident in leaving the Meditite on the brink of near fainting for whatever purposes Ashton wanted. He hissed in displeasure as the hail pelting down struck both combatants, and took an unfortunate turn for his opponent. Watching the Meditite topple backwards, obviously unconscious, Takeshi felt a rare flicker of shock as he stared at the unmoving Pokemon. Ashton wore a similar look before frustration chased it away, handsome features marred by a deep scowl. "Damn. Heck of a time to learn this kind of lesson," Ashton muttered to himself as he recalled his Scyther and proceeded on with his walk - after moving Meditite somewhere less exposed to the conditions. Tis true that hail can make capturing Pokemon much more difficult in terms of precision. Many trainers used a false swipe technique which was utterly ruined in hail. But Ashton knew it was best to keep on moving as many Pokemon lived out here, surely there’d be an even better Pokemon that would pop up. Unfortunately, it’d be hard to see if this were the case, as the hail began to slow down and a dense fog crept in throughout the landscape. Johto’s weather was incredibly fluid, especially in the Autumn and Winter months. It was always good to keep a decent eye out for predators, or to keep a flying Pokemon with defog for added measure.
As Ashton and his Scyther remorsed over lost opportunities, a small figure began to creep toward them in the distance. A Nidoran seemed to be attracted to the sounds they made and wanted a closer look into what they were doing. The little guy cocked its head curiously at them, it was vague what the Nidoran’s true intensions were for coming up to Ashton like this, but they would soon find out. A Nidoran male (level 15) has crept through the dense fog to see what’s up. Choose a Pokemon for battle! 8LyFQKs21-421-42

The relentless hail finally seemed to be slowing down, much to Ashton's relief. It wasn't for the fact it would make another capture attempt infinitely easier - hail was just annoying, period. Worse than snow and rain combined, and it made him long for home in Unova, the beaches of Undella Town calling his name. Sweet memories began to resurface as the model walked along the well worn path, oblivious to the fog rolling in, of simply lying on the warm sands all day and the sounds of ocean waves lapping the shores adding a lovely ambiance. He'd found a nice, private beach away from any potential fans and reporters seeking his time, and returned to it whenever he just needed to escape from his hectic lifestyle. So engrossed in the memories from what seemed a lifetime ago, Ashton realized belatedly he had stopped walking to reminisce, blinking away bright summer sunshine and taking in the thick, soupy fog instead. He was also alone no longer. Recognizing the male Nidoran as it curiously crept closer, as wary as its other kin, the model frowned back at it whilst one hand casually drifted to his bag. Takeshi was the most likely choice here, given what had happened with Iki before. With the hail gone as well, it was all the better for tempering the Scyther's inevitable irritation at being sent out again. Choice made, Ashton kept his expression calm as he pulled Takeshi's ball out and gave it a lazy sort of toss, his Scyther appearing in a burst of bright light. The mantis landed on his feet, wings still aching from being pummeled by hailstones, grumbling under his breath at a pitch just low enough to evade being heard by the irksome human male calling himself a trainer. Cold eyes raked the Nidoran over, Takeshi ready to hear the call that meant he had to hold back his true strength. "Takeshi, I want you to use Focus Energy to start. Then go in with Pursuit." It was the second time today Takeshi felt surprise, but he didn't pause to consider the orders or to look at Ashton - in case the idiot thought he was questioning him. If this meant he could finally showcase his power, who was he to balk? Crossing his scythes in front of him, Takeshi cleared all thoughts from his mind to ready himself mentally for the battle, though he couldn't quite chase away the flicker of excitement that was slowly spreading through him. Ashton concealed a relieved sigh that the Scyther hadn't reacted too badly to being sent out again, and that he had accepted Ashton's command so readily. It took a truly poor eye to not realize this Scyther was a powerhouse if raised correctly, and if he was to keep going through Johto, he needed more than a team of cute or beautiful Pokemon to help him with that goal. With the crossing of those bladed arms Nidoran♂ didn't have to guess what was going to happen next. However, the poor little thing was wholly unprepared for just how quickly the next part would unfold. Luckily for it the scyther was instructed to root itself and build up focus first before sweeping in. An air of calm enveloped the rare bug pokémon, Takeshi lightly taking in a deep breath as his unfaltering gaze locked onto the deep purples of the nidoran♂ before him. His bladed arms itched more and more as he built up and focused his energy into his arms and legs in preparation to strike. Nidoran♂ pawed at the ground, visage growing more stern and determined before it set forth in a thundering charge toward Takeshi. As mighty as it figured it was, when its horn struck into the scyther's leg the natural shell of the bug pokémon deflected the worst of it into nothing more than a glancing blow. Still, Nidoran♂ wasn't deterred. The poison pokémon took only a few steps back to assess its next move but that in itself was a bad call. Takeshi's arms swept down and pincered the wild pokémon. Nidoran♂ squealed angrily, struggling against the power of the undoubtedly stronger pokémon, reeling its head back and forth to catch a part of Takeshi's arm and persuade its release. It was somewhat successful, the horn once again striking into the green mantis and shortly after Nidoran♂ was released. Once free the poison pokémon backed off with a twitch of its ears, huffing from the surprise of such a sudden force. Scyther knew just where to hit to do the most damage, making Nidoran♂ less sure of trying to take on this foe. But there was no way it could back down without shame. He had to give the Nidoran credit for not turning tail despite what seeing what it was going to battle. Takeshi was menacing even when at rest; Ashton couldn't imagine how the mantis appeared to a Pokemon of Nidoran's stature and demeanor. His Scyther gazed down without an outward change in expression, unwilling to give this foe an inch in terms of respect. It was earned through honorable combat, not if it was brave enough to face up to him. While Takeshi sought to focus more deeply, Ashton took a few quiet steps to one side to better watch, a considering expression visible. Regardless of the outcome of this battle, he was starting to feel more confident about the current shadow looming over him - the Azalea Town Gym. He'd grown rather tired of this route, wanting to branch out and explore more than just this one area over and over again. If he wanted to proceed, he needed another of those gym badges, from what he'd picked up through overhearing other trainer's conversations in the Pokemon Center. ( I should message Nolan, see what information he can give me on this leader.) Falkner hadn't been too difficult a challenge, despite Ashton's hastiness to battle him, but he didn't want to go in completely blind this time. Wrenching his focus back, the model caught sight of Nidoran making a valiant charge towards Takeshi and ramming into the Scyther's legs. Ashton winced, knowing that despite the shell taking the worst out of it, that kind of attack still had to have hurt. Not that Takeshi would appreciate, or want, his sympathy. Indeed, Takeshi showed he most definitely needed no sympathy when his scythes came down on the Nidoran with still no shift in expression. Cool as a cucumber, or just indifferent to the pain? He reluctantly released the rodent when it struck one of the appendages holding it, taking a step back and letting out a huffing laugh. Knowing what the Nidoran could now do, Takeshi shifted his stance and let his scythes hang out in front of him as a silent message to the Poison-type. It could fight, admirably, but he intended to come out the winner here. "Give it another Pursuit," Ashton said, not bothering to hide a smile. He was impressed, very much so, but he hoped the Scyther didn't turn around and assume the worst based on his face. Thankfully Takeshi did no such thing, too attentive a battler to waste time checking on his trainer when he knew orders would come regardless. His wings fluttered restlessly against his back as he prepared to strike, excitement growing exponentially now that victory was within reach. The Nidoran was still doubting its choice to battle the Scyther but not one to take the cowardly act of running away it stood its ground even as it knew the mantis was not going to give it any quarter after being pecked twice. Between the painful critical hit it had suffered from the Pursuit and the bugs boosted critical hit ratio the rabbit did not know how much longer it could hold out but at least by losing with honor no one would consider it a coward. The poison type stepped forward as Ashton ordered Takeshi to use its pursuit attack hoping that it could dodge just enough of the attack to last one final round against the bug but things did not go over very well at all as the Scyther quickly closed the small gap between them. He rushed forward and lifted his scythe like arm a mere foot away from the rabbits face before slamming it down on top of the poison type scoring another CRITICAL HIT ending any hope that the rabbit could keep going any longer as it was barely able to breathe. The second attack had smashed a few bones and even punctured a lung but somehow the rabbit was at least still alive though in terrible pain. Realizing there was no hope of winning this battle nor surviving another hit it crawled away while begging the Scyther to spare it this time. Takeshi would have not struggled to finish the rabbit off at all but not wanting to take things too far and risk disappointing its trainer he let the rabbit go but the look on his face made it clear mercy would not be shown the next time. With the Nidoran dealt with Takeshi was feeling pretty proud of himself for dispatching his foe so easily. The fog had even cleared as the battle ended finally giving him a much deserved break from the reduced vision he and Ashton had to deal with during the battle. Wild Battle Weather: Fog (-10% ACC) Nidoran♂ | Level 15 HP: 0% (0/43) Status: KO'ed KO'ed! VS

Takeshi showed no quarter in dealing with an opponent he didn't need to hold back with, a quality for which Ashton was both grateful and a little frightened by. As long as that cold fury and intelligence wasn't directed at him, however, he'd learn to deal with it. Especially if he planned on taking the Scyther to his gym battle, depending on what kind of gym it was of course. Ashton pulled his phone out on that thought, relieved to see he had enough reception to send his message to Nolan. With luck, his manager would be quick in compiling the information he needed before Ashton headed back to town. The model returned his phone to his pocket and looked back up to watch Takeshi striking the final blow on the brave Nidoran, and subsequently letting it drag itself back into the underbrush upon the rodent admitting defeat. It added another level of depth to his Scyther, the mantis willing to let a lesser foe go, even if Ashton didn't know why. His face was thoughtful as Takeshi let out a snort and moved towards him, meeting the Bug-type's glare without flinching. "That was very well done. But if you want a better challenge," Ashton began, smirking inwardly at the interest that sparked in Takeshi's eyes. "There's a gym in this town that could have an opponent of your caliber. You won't have to hold back there either. What do you say - you up for this?" Takeshi crossed his arms in front of him, not as a threatening gesture, merely a contemplative one, the way a person might cup their chin while deep in thought. Maybe this human had more potential than he thought, if he understood Takeshi's hunger for a good, fair fight that made his blood boil the way it used to when he was a much younger Pokemon. Well, understood wasn't quite the word; guessed at seemed a fairer assumption. Takeshi dipped his head at the man, Ashton inclining his own in response. Recalling his Scyther without another word, he took one last look around the route, seeing the fog lessening in a fortuitous sign for the events soon to transpire. Ashton knew he couldn't stay on this route training forever, for his own sanity and that of his own Pokemon as well. And the local wildlife, too, if word of him spread and they fled deeper into hiding. It was more likely though that some media outlet would figure out he was here, drawing too much attention and generally ruining his plans. A sharp beep interrupted his thoughts, originating from his phone that the model hastily extracted from his pocket once again. The message that waited for him had a grin spreading across his face, one that stayed all the way on his trek back into Azalea. He was feeling bold with each line he read, and resolved to challenge the gym as soon as he got his team sorted out. Let Johto know that Ashton Reid was on his way to acquiring his second badge, soon to be more than just a pretty face, but a bonafide trainer with two gym challenges under his belt. "Oh, that's just wrong."Ashton had taken one step out of the Center after his gym battle and walked into what felt like a solid wall of humidity. Already he was regretting charging back into training so soon, instead of doing what most other trainers did and head into the cool comfort of Ilex Forest. Both options were extremely unappealing - slowly lose his will to do anything in this horrible humidity, or get lost and blunder around a forest with no phone reception. He'd found himself bored upon spilling the details of his fight to Nolan, and figured Iki deserved another chance at training, gathering up his things before the desire to act fled him. Well, fled it had, but he wasn't going to walk back inside and tell the few other trainers gathered he was wussing out over less than stellar weather conditions. ( I trained out in hail. This... this is nothing. Just a nice swim, is all.) It felt more like swimming through soup than water as Ashton headed back to a most dreaded Route 33 once again. He hadn't planned on staying long, if he could find anything for Iki to handle, owing to his general fatigue from his battle against Bugsy. Ilex Forest was the next thing on his itinerary, and Ashton wanted to be prepared for the worst beyond having no phone service to help guide him. The model expelled a sigh as he leaned up against the trunk of a large tree that offered meager shade from the setting sun. From experience Ashton knew it wouldn't be long before something came along to make things exciting. ( OOC: Could a mod please swap June, Hyperion and Takeshi out for Anahera, Ari and Thistle? I'd also like to use the Psychic TM on Thistle, to replace Confusion. And lastly, I need Eviolite shifted to Iki. Thank you!) ▲ ● (waiting for encounter) ●

As Ashton set out in the humid weather looking for a sparing partner for Iki he never would have expected what he would encounter as a lone Meditite walked right out in front of him too focused on trying to improve its own psychic powers to pay him any attention as it tried to snap a twig in half using its psychic powers. The gifted Pokemon was still rather young though and struggled to break the twig for the longest of time it started to get mad until the twig finally snapped as its eyes popped open in shock that it had finally broken the twig. It was in its excitement that it turned around and saw the young man standing behind it that it grew worried. Meditite was a rare species in the area and any time they encountered a trainer they usually had to fight with all of their might to avoid being captured but something seemed different about Ashton. He did not have a Pokeball in his hand already unlike most trainers and the emotions Meditite managed to read from him using its powers suggested he was more interested in a regular battle than he was in capturing it. Being so young though Meditite was not entirely sure it was reading his mind accurately nor could it be sure that he was not trying to trick it. The humid weather was messing with its concentration as well making everything worse for the young psychic type. Going with its gut though it stood in front of Ashton hoping it was making the right decision as it really wanted to avoid being captured. Even so a chance to battle a tough trainer could not be passed up as risky as its choice might be. A wild Meditite (Level 12) appeared. Please select a Pokemon.

Even dressed for the weather didn't make it any more tolerable, Ashton all but wilting in the disgusting humidity. Only the shade kept him from reneging on his promise to train, even if it hardly did anything to alleviate the worst of it. Staying out of the waning sunlight was better than nothing, though, the model pulling out some bottled water from his bag to eagerly drink half of it. It wouldn't have surprised him if no Pokemon ventured forth to make for a challenge, smart enough to seek shelter elsewhere until the cool night air took over. Eyes drifting closed, Ashton missed the timely arrival of a lone Meditite intent on its own training, nearly giving in to some unexpected drowsiness before the loud snap of the twig made him jump nearly a foot in the air. "Oh," Ashton said, struggling to conceal his dismay. He'd come across one of these Pokemon before, doubtful of Iki's chances against it, meaning it was a waste of time to bother battling it. The decision, however, was wrested from his hands by Iki himself, his ball dislodged by Ashton taking out his water and now falling to the ground to release the young Rock-type housed within. Uttering a joyful bark, Iki proceeded to gambol about in an excited circle a few times before his bright eyes landed on the startled Meditite, striking a typical playful pose with one madly waving tail. Recognizing that Iki was inviting it to participate in his version of 'play', Ashton had to act fast before the Meditite interpreted this and struck a deadly blow. "No, Iki!" the model snapped, straining to keep his tone from being too harsh. It worked to distract his Rockruff long enough for Ashton to hastily send out a Pokemon more suited for this fight, in the form of his Minun, Anahera. She cheerfully greeted both Iki and Meditite with such sweet enthusiasm that even Ashton couldn't help smiling at her eternally sunny nature. "Back up a bit Iki, Anahera needs some room to work. Thunderbolt, if you would my dear," Ashton said, gesturing impatiently at Iki. Expelling a sad sigh, Iki obediently trotted over to watch the battle he couldn't participate in for reasons unknown, although he was very curious to see how another fellow party member fought. ▲ ● (Iki swapped for Anahera; used Thunderbolt) ●

The sight of the excitable pup startled Meditite, only having just come back to paying attention to the world around it all the energy and close quarters with this trainer and his pokémon were too much to handle just yet. Without a thought the young psychic went on the defensive. Closing its eyes it prepared for the tackle from Iki... but it never came. Slightly confused it opened its eyes to take a peek and found that another had taken up the field against it. Meditite blinked a few times before dropping its guard and taking a deep breath. This new opponent was just as cheery as the last, but at least the mouse was more contained. It made the dual type a bit more relaxed and able to focus. Meditite hummed and finally got its head in the game. But it was a little late. The more experienced minun was quick to act on her trainer's orders. Cheeks sparking to life Anahera charged herself up with negative energy and then sent a devastating bolt directly at the wild pokémon. It was over in a flash. The crackle of the thunderbolt still shaking the air and ringing in Meditite's ears when it was clear that this was over. Blackened with odd veins defined along its arms the dual fighter type tried to take a step and found its sense of balance was completely off. No good. With a cough the poor thing made to hum again and envelop itself in whatever power it could muster then flee into the woods. VICTORY!

Trainer and Pokemon were briefly perplexed by Meditite's lack of immediate engagement, seemingly choosing to ignore them to... meditate? Iki made an inquiring noise, leaning up against Ashton's leg and drawing the model's attention. He shifted subtly away from the Rock type, though not out of disdain for the affectionate gesture - rather, Ashton had felt the stones in Iki's neck fluff digging in. Small they might be, but they were sharp and abrasive; not a good combination to avoid accidental injury. Iki took no notice as Anahera began emitting sparks in a lead-up to her actual attack, ending the battle in a decisive strike that briefly stunned her foe. It fled to safety shortly afterwards, a little more worse for wear. Ashton's Minun hummed happily as she skipped back over to her trainer, a delighted wave for Iki setting the puppy's tail wagging. "Very well done," Ashton said as he knelt down to smile at Anahera. She beamed in response, a balm against a temper worn thin from dealing with the humidity. How could anyone stay mad with such a sweet face around? Iki butted his head against Ashton's knee, craving some attention of his own, and Ashton acquiesced by patting him for a moment, mindful of the rocks that had nearly poked him before. "You wait for me to give the go ahead next time, all right? I don't want you getting into trouble again," Ashton said firmly to Iki, the pup nodding vigorously. He was going to be a good boy, the goodest of boys, and behave himself. Probably. Ashton recalled Ana to her ball, leaving Iki out as he searched the area for signs of life. As Iki searched for another Pokemon to battle he suddenly caught a whiff of a strange smelling Pokemon and ran towards the source. A short distance away from where Ashton stood there was a bush and Iki dove into it thinking he could chase whatever he smelled out. His attempt was only partially successful as he did manage to draw out the Surskit relaxing in a puddle right behind the bush but he also got himself soaked by the muddy water in the process. The humid weather had not quite finished drying up the puddle and Surskit was trying to enjoy the last bit of water for as long as it could before being rudely interrupted by the pup and it was not pleased with Iki at all. The pond skater Pokemon looked at him with an adorable angry face as it fired a bubble at him. The humid weather caused it to pop before it could reach him but the message the bug type sent was clear as crystal that it was not going to let the Rockruff get away with ruining its day. The failure of its attack only increased its rage as it grew visibly enraged by the very sight of Iki and his trainer that seemed to grow by the second. There was no way Ashton was going to calm the bug down with any diplomatic means other than defeating it in a battle. Surskit impatiently waited for him to pick a Pokemon to use against it as it got ready to launch another attack hoping this next one would not be hampered by the weather. A wild Surskit (Level 12) appeared. Please select a Pokemon.

At least Iki was having fun, Ashton mused as he watched the pup romp around playfully. Iki wasn't as bothered by the heat as his trainer, or if he was he didn't show it as easily. Tongue lolling out as he burned off some rambunctious energy by dashing about, the Rockruff's nose twitched as a new scent intruded. Despite Ashton's multiple warnings, he couldn't restrain himself from investigating it and launched himself into the bushes with a playful yip. Upon discovering the Surskit, Iki greeted the angry Bug-type with a short bark, tail wagging furiously. He pulled back when the bubble floated towards him, popping just shy of his nose, calming down a little as he realized just how upset the smaller Pokemon was. Ashton had been watching Iki closely, aware the puppy wouldn't completely heed his warnings. But he was ill-prepared for the sight of Iki's back legs and tail hanging part way out of the bushes, tail wagging away so powerfully that it was causing the bushes to rustle. A shout of laughter burst free before he clamped a hand over his mouth, subsiding into mirthful but silent giggles as Iki backed out of the bushes with Surskit in tow. Iki, surprisingly, scampered over to him without prompting - wary of the Surskit's secondary Water-typing. "Don't worry, buddy. I'll handle this," Ashton promised him, sending out Thistle the Espurr and directing her to use Psychic. She appeared very unimpressed by the humidity, but made no complaints as she did what was asked. ( OOC: Running shoes activated.) ▲ ● (Thistle uses Psychic x2) ●
