Surskit might of had a type advantage over Iki that it hoped to take advantage of but as Ashton switched Pokemon that plan went up in smoke leaving Surskit to think of another plan quickly. The small bug Pokemon was not very fast nor very powerful but it still had a few things it could try as Thistle replaced Iki as its opponent. Surskit was not sure if it could outrun the cat Pokemon under most circumstances but thanks to its Quick Attack it did not have to as its natural speed was greatly boosted by the attack. It slammed into the cat Pokemon at a high speed but quickly regretted its choice as she recovered and her eyes started to glow purple. A few seconds later Surskit was floating in the air unable to move any part of its body as Thistle's Psychic had complete control of its body. As Thistle was not very pleased with the bug she thought flinging the bug sky high and letting it fall to the ground unable to brace for impact would be a nice little way to teach it a lesson. Surskit was lifted up high into the air until Thistle ran out of energy before plummeting into the ground causing massive damage. In desperation Surskit worked up the strength to try one final Quick Attack but Thistle laughed off the second impact ready to deliver the final blow as this Surskit still had not learned its lesson yet. Her eyes turned purple again as Surskit was put into the same precarious situation it was in during the last attack but in far worse physical shape than it was in the first time and as Thistle released her psychic grip on the bug it fell onto the ground again this time knocked out by the attack. Luckily for Surskit a group of its friends managed to show up and carry it off before Ashton could capture it but this battle would haunt its memories for some time to come. Thistle gains 2 levels and +1 happiness for her victory. She is now level 16 with +4 happiness.

Ashton watched Iki's reactions to the battle with a great deal of amusement, as the Rockruff's ears kept moving about. When Surskit sped in towards Thistle with Quick Attack, the ears went up in concern. And when the Espurr retaliated with a powerful Psychic that lifted Surskit clean off the ground, Iki's ears flattened against his head, blue eyes wide with shock. Ashton himself was surprised at the shift in power over her previous move of Confusion, but Thistle held no qualms in making use of it. Enough so that when Surskit struck her again, she brushed it off to eagerly use it a second time. Her unblinking gaze followed the Surskit as it was borne away by its friends, lingering on the bush they vanished into for a heartbeat more before she finally looked away and back to Ashton. "Well. That was... something," the model said in a low voice, recalling Thistle. Iki was still contemplating what he'd seen, and deciding he would do everything to stay on Thistle's good side. The snooty feline had ignored him entirely when they'd first met, something that stung at the time, but now the Rockruff wondered if she was just containing her power so tightly that her level of control extended to her general personality too. As long as she didn't use those scary powers on him, he'd leave her alone. Pushing the thoughts aside, Iki stood up and stretched, a familiar scent hitting his nose at the same time. He perked up, muscles tensing... then he remembered Ashton's warning. The Rock-type faced his trainer and uttered a short bark to grab his attention, waiting until Ashton peered down at him. "Another Pokemon, huh?" Ashton drawled, deducing as much from Iki nearly dancing excitedly on the spot. "You can draw it out with a good Howl, perhaps." Permission granted, Iki sauntered forwards to where the scent was the strongest, spotting a flash of pink just out of sight among some tree branches. He threw back his head with a joyful Howl, a challenging note contained in the sound. Now he just had to wait for a reply. ( OOC: 5 pages? Yaaas. Requesting a Hoppip!) ▲ ● (Iki uses Howl) ●

As a Hoppip floated around the trees, hoping to go unnoticed, Ashton and his Rockruff had other plans in mind. Due to its pink coloration, it would be pretty hard to miss that squishy little ‘mon against the contrast between the deep greens. It wasn’t in the mood to go into battle and figured that it could sneakily float away if unprovoked. But, a hardy howl from Iki would certainly get Hoppip’s attention and draw it out from behind the flora.
Upon hearing this howl, Hoppip decided to retaliate with a nice tail whip attack! If this trainer wanted to battle with some status effects, this pink ball could certainly pull some out as well! The Pokemon wagged its tail cutely in order to disarm the Rockruff and make Iki lower his guard. The weather was perfect for a nice battle like today, but Hoppip was ready to get this over with and go back to its content and aimless floating across the treetops. Battle Weather: Clear Hoppip | Level 12 | Chlorophyll | HP: 100% (34/34) Status: Normal Used Tail Whip! VS
Iki | Level 12 | Vital Spirit | Eviolite HP: 100% (36/36) Status: +1 ATK, -1 DEF Used Howl!otnmH9I31-421-42

Iki was innocently oblivious to the concept that not everything was interested in picking fights with him or Ashton, seeing Hoppip's reluctance as more reason to coax it out to play and have fun. Of course his idea of play was not the same as every other Pokemon's, a lesson he'd learn eventually as he grew closer to evolution... probably. To Iki's joy, however, Hoppip finally emerged from its hiding spot in the trees to float down, only to spin around and wiggle its short tail at him. It charmed the simple Rockruff, who wagged his tail excitedly in response, without the same intent Hoppip had used. Ashton hid his laugh with a short coughing fit, far too amused by just how cute Iki was. Focus, he reminded himself. This wasn't some cuteness exhibition, but a battle to help Iki get stronger. "Iki, use Bite!" he called out. Iki partly turned his head and barked a quick affirmative, dropping into a playful pose offset only by the rumbling beginning of a growl. Now was the time to prove he could handle himself, and Iki wanted nothing more than to make Ashton proud of him; if that earned him a few extra pats, all the better. The Rock-type gave Hoppip a warning yip before he pounced with jaws open wide, a likely scary sight for a Pokemon of Hoppip's size. ( OOC: Running Shoes activated!) ▲ ● (Iki uses Bite x2) ●

Hoppip’s movepool seemed quite over the place. Unfortunately, the Pokemon had no grass type moves to help it combat the rock type, so it would have to rely on some of the other tactics it had acquired in the wild. Iki promptly sprinted toward the flying pink Pokemon and gave a nice bite attack. The damage was decent, especially considering the howl attack deployed earlier in the battle. Hoppip decided it was time to make some moves, it unleashed a pink gust toward the Rockruff, hoping it would take out a good chunk of damage.
Unfortunately, Hoppip wasn’t decided for attacking. It’s defense tactics took priority, whereas its attack stats had severe lack. The pink breeze barely did anything, especially since the puppy had an eviolite equipped, which sucked up considerable damage. Hoppip frowned, disappointed with its lack of power. Iki wasted no time on going in for seconds, another bite took another portion of the foe’s health. With nothing left to do, the Hoppip threw out another fairy wind attack. The grass Pokemon was looking worse and worse, flying closer to the ground as flying took energy that it didn’t have. Things were looking great for Ashton and Iki, poor Hoppip should have stayed hidden in the branches. Battle Weather: Clear Hoppip | Level 12 | Chlorophyll | HP: 12% (4/34) Status: Normal Used Fairy Wind x2! VS
Iki | Level 12 | Vital Spirit | Eviolite HP: 78% (28/36) Status: +1 ATK, -1 DEF Used Bitex2!

Seeing Fairy Wind employed by Hoppip piqued Ashton's interest, the attack rather pretty, even if it wasn't that powerful. It could add an interesting look to his next advertising campaign, once he got to proper civilization - and better cell reception. He noted it down mentally, hoping the thought didn't slip out of his mind when he returned to the Pokemon Center later. Iki yipped in delight as the Fairy Wind ruffled wildly through his fur, tongue flapping comically where it hung out of his jaws. And when Hoppip performed the attack again, the Rockruff actually sat down on his haunches to enjoy the effect, Eviolite helping mitigate the worst of the damage. "Great job, Iki!" Ashton said, shaking his head at the puppy's antics. Hey, if playing was how Iki wanted to battle, it was fine by him as long as he got the job done in the end. It wasn't hard to notice Hoppip's condition, where one more hit was sure to knock it out. Ashton looked around the area once again, wondering how much longer he wanted to be out here. It was a long, grueling trek to Goldenrod, and the model wanted to be well-rested for whatever that trek entailed. "Finish it off with Bite," he directed, only half paying attention as Iki eagerly scrambled to obey. ▲ ● (Iki uses Bite) ●

Iki was ready to take down this Hoppip, a foe not as formidable as opponents in the past. Being such a low leveled Pokemon in its first form, Hoppip did not stand a chance against such a strong Rockruff. As Hoppip was struggling to fly, Iki was ready to finish off this battle so the team could move on. The pink Pokemon watched, life flashing before its eyes, as Iki began sprinting towards the grass type Pokemon. Its leaf propellers couldn’t move fast enough for it to float out of the way. With another satisfying crunch, the Hoppip fell to the ground. It didn’t appear that it would be getting up anytime soon, leaving Iki to look to Ashton for further orders.
With another battle done, Iki was growing stronger and stronger, inching towards evolution. As the Rockruff walked back to Ashton, a deep fog began to creep in from the distance, perhaps signifying a new weather report due to the mercurial nature of Johto’s seasons.
Iki gained 3 levels and is now level 15! Iki wants to learn rock throw!
