[nospaces] "Yes!" the lad cheered, albeit a bit hushed, from behind. The plan had worked. Drowzee was on the ground and engaged finally. It was even disoriented, or panicked, enough to not use hypnosis as its first option versus the sparky feline. She had a fire in her that one. Something told him that even if the rose-colored tapir tried its best Andromeda would be a hard one to put to sleep. Though, it was a double-edged sword.
[break] [break] Damien couldn't help but take notice of the level of brutality in her strike. Her fur wasn't on edge due to the electricity zipping through it. It was the same as with the encounter with Ferra all those months ago. He didn't get it. What was it about particular pokémon that got Andromeda so riled? Last time he could barely keep her contained let alone controlled and both Booker and Alexis were indisposed this time.
[break] [break] The budding ranger quickly reached into his bag, taking but a moment to check on his other two pokémon shuffling about the area. Booker was still asleep and Alexis continued to do well with keeping the sleepwalker in near proximity and away from the fight. Good. Damien snatched up a fresh pokéball and activated it.
[break] "Andromeda, stand down." The order was firm and so was the luxio. She growled, claws extending to dig into the ground as her hateful glare intensified on Drowzee. "Andromeda," the boy repeated, reeling his arm back and getting ready to to throw. She turned her head and hissed. A fresh wave of static crackled across her body as she stood defiant, bowing low to the ground and looking to get ready to pounce on the wild pokémon again.
[break] [break] "No! We're not keeping this one, we're just getting it away from kids it could cause harm to," he explained, not that he should need to. "Stand down," came the command once again. Damien could see the smarmy grin on the shiny's face as it cooked up its next plan of action. No doubt it would take great advantage of the conflict and hesitation on his side of the battlefield. Damien aimed as best he could through the distraction of worry about his luxio and threw it. They couldn't afford the psychic any more time to prepare its next move.

The Drowzee had expected a call of attack and was planning on a different kind of attack. She hadn't however expected Damian to tell his pokemon to stand down. She trust this at all, blue energy started to surround her as she stood there ready for anything to come at her. She noticed the Luxio's annoyance at the trainer's command was about to shoot another confusion to keep them away, however she noticed a shine of light higher up. She looked up towards and realised it was coming straight as her. She aimed the confusion at it, hoping to stop it in place. The blue energy surrounded the ball, at first glance it seemed to be working. However, the ball was not slowing down, no matter how hard the Drowzee focused her confusion. It seemed she needed on practice on that front but she wasn't going to go down easily. Upon realising it wasn't working she tried to move and get out the way. Despite her best efforts her size just wasn't helpful today as the ball skimmed her shoulder. She went inside the ball as it fell to the ground. The ball began to wiggle as the Drowzee tried to fight herself out of it, get out of this weird container they had been put into. The ball wiggled once, then twice, it then stopped. Did it fail, was the Drowzee getting out? It then wiggled a third time, before the ball let off a small sound to announce capture. The ball then stopped moving, the Drowzee seemingly giving up for now, who knew what she would do if let out. For now, the danger was over, and some pokemon could get some rest.

[nospaces] It wasn't until the pokéball fell still and chimed its success did Damien realize he had been holding his breath. Relief washed over his whole body, a weariness returning. Andromeda trod over to the ball in the grass, sniffing it a second before huffing. Her fur had smoothed back out but it was clear she was still agitated that the drowzee existed. The luxio smacked the ball toward her trainer without much care. It rolled rapidly toward him, causing a bit of panic to rise up within once again as he moved to catch it. The river was still close by and being unprepared for this he almost let it roll right on by toward the water's edge. The ranger dove for it, narrowly managing to get his fingers around the pokéball enough to cease its motion.
[break] [break] He laid there for a moment. A deep sigh of relief rising and falling in his chest. The ache in his jaw and knees came back to him, agitated by his second fall of the day. At least this time he was fully conscious for it.
[break] [break] "Andromeda," he spoke wearily. He stretched further to secure the ball in his hands before rolling over and shifting into a seated position. The electric pokémon quickly padded over to him and stopped within inches of his face. The two stared into each other's eyes in silence. Concern mixed with respect stirred in either's, but there was still some disconnect; some misunderstanding between them. The luxio broke the staring contest to nuzzle the ranger's cheek and lick some of the dirt from his chin. He couldn't resist rubbing her neck in return.
[break] [break] With another quiet sigh Damien rose to his feet and transmitted drowzee to the PC. After all this they could probably all do with a bit of a break.
[break] "Alright..." he mumbled, turning his attention back toward the tree where he left Booker and Alexis. He found his pup restlessly snoozing away in the shade. Good. It seemed the sleepwalking was over for the moment, but where was his little golem? Another scan of the area would answer that question.
[break] [break] Off to the side his trusty sentry was motioning and making silly postures. It took a second, and a bit of a different angle as the young lad walked over, but it was made clear that the golett wasn't alone; there were two! Both were mirroring each other with every move and they looked exactly the same. [break] "Alexis?" The boy's voice drew both of their attention. They lined up, side-by-side, and both waved at exactly the same time. The pair then looked at each other, surprised that the other had greeted Damien. "Oh boy..." He couldn't tell them apart. Though... maybe there was something funny about the one's eyes. It was hard to tell underneath the inner glow of golett's form, but he could swear at certain moments he could see beady eyes. Was that always there? Or was he still more bleary eyed from the hypnosis than he'd realized.

It was fun being a ditto, you could literally be anything you wanted! A lot of people or pokemon were imagining how it would be to be someone else, but as a ditto all you needed to do was find one and then you could try it out to your hearts content. This ditto loved being anything else than a blob, it had run with the ponytas and had set a whole field on fire! It had battled zangoose in the form of an seviper and it had soared through the sky like a pidgeotto where it had experienced a thunderstorm a bit too close to comfort, that had almost gone wrong. Sleeping like an abra had been much more relaxing, at least until a drowzee came by and it had its dreams stolen, but then it just tried out the hypnosis pokemon instead and got some new ones instead. Today it had wanted to check out the water nearby and had planned on try out the thing called swimming. It had felt water before but was excited to try how it would be to breathe underwater, and move through the liquid with ease. On its way it had come across a sleeping dog, a kind it had seen from the sky before but hadn't found interesting yet. The pokemon that was standing guard over it made it stare in wonder, what a special looking pokemon and definitely not something it had seen before. Ditto got excited about trying to be something that it had never seen on this route before, and it spread out to creep up to Alexis unnoticed. The golett would feel something tickle its feet and when it turned around it would stand face to face with itself. The mirror grinned back with its beady eyes and mimicked every move Alexis did to learn how it was to be a golett. When the trainer came closer mirror golett giggled at his expression, it was always fun to confuse others when they couldn't tell them apart. It did its best to do exactly as Alexis, it wanted to know all the golett knew and had already learned how it felt to be part ghost which was a new feeling to it. It wasn't sure if it liked it or not. [nospaces] He continued staring at the two, dumbfounded on how to go about separating them properly. An imposter? Or had someone else let their own golett wander in the wilds?
[break] "Alright," he chuckled, lightening up a little and lowering into a crouch beside them. While a ponderous problem it wasn't like Alexis was being kidnapped or anything. The duplicate was just as friendly; for now. "Which one of you is mine?" asked the young ranger, looking between the two of them with a serious look. It wasn't enough to break from the imposter's game though, as both golems pointed to themselves. One then looked to the other and made to slap the others' hand, but the second one noticed and went to return the slap. The two met in an awkward high-five, then proceeded to have a half-hearted slap fight to push the other away.
[break] [break] Andromeda watched from behind, only mildly curious as to what was going on. After a glance to the slumbering hound she went to cleaning herself. A quiet bystander in whatever was going on here. Damien was stumped. He reached out poke both in their chest plate to regain their attention and test they were both solid. To his dismay one of them wasn't easily identified as an illusion. His gloved finger connected solidly, he could even feel the hole composing the diamond swirl design of the pokémon and watch as the inner light was disturbed where his fingers went.
[break] [break] "Well you're definitely a golett," he determined, ruling out the possibility of some trickster ghost like the stories from Ilex forest. As he spoke he still wasn't sure which one he was talking to so ended up looking between them both again. Of which, the pair simultaneously puffed out their chests with hands on their hips as if that statement was an obvious fact. The boy couldn't help but laugh. Now what? He couldn't turn down a puzzle that needed solving, but his brain was still doped from that hypnosis. Maybe he'd just let it follow them around while he searched for anyone that may be searching for this spare golett.
[break] [break] Damien was about to fall back into a seated position to think when Turret reminded him he was still present. There was a quiet hmmm from the wartortle before a snap of tiny fingers. The ranger twisted his head around to regard his oldest partner.
[break] "You have an idea?" he questioned. Turret nodded confidently and signaled for his trainer to step aside. "Alright." The young ranger stood back up and stepped back, moving back toward where Booker was resting. He didn't want to miss whatever it was Turret was going to do with the golett's, taking steps backward until he was positioned close to his pup. Once the water pokémon was satisfied with the distance he began.
[break] [break] Puffing up his cheeks with water, the first golett didn't have much before a stream of water came rushing at it. It threw up its hands and tried to block as much as it could from hitting the rest of its body, before gurgling a surrender. The golett was distressed and shaken, but all it did was wag an angry finger at the wartortle. Turret then looked to the second golett with a toothy grin; readying another water gun. Damien wasn't sure this was such a good idea, but he was willing to see it a little further. Alexis wouldn't strike an ally back.

The two goletts continued to do the same movements and the ditto was really proud of how well it was doing in fooling the other pokemon's trainer. It thought it had gotten really far in its mimicking skills which it had also worked really hard on as it had run into trouble several times in the beginning when it tried to join pokemon and they recognized it as an outsider or thought it acted weirdly. It watched closely as Damien poked Alexis first with his finger and then reacted on exactly the same way when Damien poked it, though it had to suppress a giggle as it had felt funny. The non-Alexis looked curiously as Damien withdrew and Turret stepped forward instead, it had seen wartortles before but hadn't really had any experiences with ground types and didn't know what it it could expect. It tensed its body when it saw what Turret did with Alexis and as it felt like it had an iron shell it was quite confident in itself. It sputtered surprised when it felt the water, its raised hands in the same fashion as Alexis did little difference, this was not funny anymore! Ditto didn't think much about what it did it just felt naturally to stomp the ground annoyed and then it focused on Turrets creme colored front shell and then gave it a stomp with its foot. It got Turret to stagger a few steps backwards and the ditto realized that moment that it had blown it cover, so it began to back away warily in an attempt to get out of the situation without any further trouble. [nospaces] Good idea or not, at least it seemed to have worked. The second 'golett' retaliated in surprised anger while the real Alexis slumped down onto its back for a good rest now that it was all sorted. Probably would have been good to get slightly further away from the battle site, but the little golem needed to catch its breath; so to speak.
[break] [break] Turret clapped his hands after the ditto ceased stomping around his shell. A small triumph. But now what? The wartortle looked to his trainer for some guidance on what he wanted to do with this other golett.
[break] "You're a playful one aren't you?" he spoke up, smiling at the other assumed ghost pokémon. A hand went to his chin as he considered the next steps. "Come on back Alexis, you could probably use a good rest after that," he stated almost apologetically. The ground-ghost type grunted affirmatively before Damien whisked it safely back into its pokéball. That was one less moving thing around to worry about now. The ranger then looked to his luxio, "Watch him." He pointed to Booker, making sure Andromeda followed his finger to the herdier before giving her a nod and moving back close to the battle. He noticed the opposing golett starting to back away.
[break] [break] "Wait, I'm so sorry about that," he apologized, throwing his hands up in a non-threatening fashion to try and keep the pokémon from running away. Turret grumbled with the turn of his trainer regarding the plan. It was a great plan. It had worked didn't it?
[break] "Do you belong to someone? Are you lost?" he questioned it, not really sure how he was expecting to understand any answer provided. Though, given the humanoid shape it was easier to read than other kinds of pokémon. The transformed ditto let out a sort of laugh as if in disbelief, shrugging off the question as ridiculous. Damien smirked, realizing how silly it was to have asked two questions. Now he had no idea which one that was a reaction to if not both.
[break] [break] The boy reached into his bag for a ball. "I guess there's one way to be sure," he muttered to himself, pausing a moment to decide what kind to test this out with. Judging how this one looks compared to how worn down Alexis was he'd guess this one was a bit younger. Damien pulled out a Nest ball and presented it to the hopefully wild 'golett'. "If you do belong to someone, then this won't work at all, but if you don't... You're an interesting fellow and I'd like to keep you around," he explained with a smile; hoping the pokémon wouldn't take offense.
[break] [break] Before the disguised ditto could do too much in preparation for the throw, Damien activated the nest ball and tossed it.

This wasn't funny anymore. Ditto spluttered a bit from the water and tried to take in all the human's questions. Such odd and fascinating people these humans. It sensed possible danger and was trying to avoid getting hurt anymore but the trainer didn't seem threatening. It wasn't entirely sure though, from its limited exposure to humans, what it was doing with the shiny ball in his hand.
By the time it was thrown Ditto realized the possible danger but it was too late. It started to back up faster but things seemed to turn inside out and it found itself being sucked in. For a moment it tried to struggle but it was caught too well. Settling in for the ride into the ball Ditto had a moment to reflect that maybe this was just the beginning of a new and even more exciting adventure.
Congratulations! You have caught a shiny Ditto! (Rolled an 05 on the percentage roll so lucky you. )

[nospaces] He watched the ball, still unsure whether the pokémon he'd just tried to capture was even wild. Though, he was fairly certain that if it had been owned then its form never would have disappeared inside in the first place it wasn't like he made a habit of trying it. If he was right though then he was in luck at least that far. Both Turret and Andromeda watched as well, eyes locked on the wobble of the device as the pokémon struggled against it. Soon the sound of success chimed and put them all at ease. Damien's heart fluttered. [break][break] "Alright! Looks like Alexis is going to have a friend." As he spoke he skipped forward to pluck the ball from the grass. His golett never seemed lonely or left out, but the little golem was still a bit of an odd-one that always seemed a bit reserved. Maybe having another of its kind would allow Alexis to relax a bit. [break][break] All these thoughts running through his head he spun to face his other three pokémon and released his newest ally. The light merged into a rounded shape and before any distinct features had even presented themselves Damien began to speak, "Welcome to the gang! Sorry about the waterworks, but I h-" He stopped, puzzled. The figure sitting before him was not the same that he had just captured. A silence fell as Ditto blinked and looked around at everyone. After a moment it raised one of its amorphous arms and waved at the young trainer, who, after a second to shake off his astonishment, waved back. [break] "Hello," he managed to squeak out. "You're even more interesting than I thought," he followed up a bit more assuredly. Damien stepped forward and dropped into a crouched position beside his new surprise pokémon. "So what are you?"[break][break] The blue blobby pokémon grinned, put both stubby arm-shapes to the sky and cried out, "Ditto!" Damien chuckled before replying. [break] "Well Ditto, you're sure to find more new friends with us." That seemed to make it happy. "For now though we should probably head back and let you rest after the fight. I'll send you with Alexis okay? He could use a break too."[break][break] ~~~~~
[break] Returning to Route 34 Damien found himself questioning his sanity. The sky was alight and booming, the ground being pelted with a heavy rain, and yet here he was. Here, out in the unprotected wilds instead of taking refuge in a café or some indoor activity. The gym was closed for the next few days as Whitney partook in a magazine project out of town so his plans to finally challenge her and progress beyond the noise of the big city had been foiled. A bit of a downer for sure. Somehow the distant crackle of lightning made him feel a bit better. Perhaps it was just the rain, bringing back memories like meeting Booker. Or just simply being in the outdoors since it reminded him more of home. [break][break] Regardless of his reasons he was out and about in the storm. Very few pokémon were even rustling about so what was he expecting to accomplish in this weather? His gaze dropped to the ripples and blots slapping onto the river he'd found himself walking beside. Just a small off-shoot of the nearby sea bordering the western edge of Goldenrod. He didn't know how long he stood staring, but eventually he caught on. The river was still full of pokémon unbothered by a bit more water. [break][break] Arms shuffling through his raincoat to reach his bag, Damien withdrew the extendable rod he'd purchased so long ago. Today was the day. He'd finally get some practice in. The boy approached a safe looking bank, making sure to have plenty of trees around and for his position to be well above the water level, then took a breath. He scanned the surface for a moment but the rain made it impossible to see if there really was anything around. Deciding to take a chance anyway, the ranger reeled back and let the hook fly over the river and land a good distance away. Then it was just a matter of waiting, huddled in his repellent coat and left to his thoughts. Word Count: 706

While Damien might not be experienced enough with fishing to know it a rainy day could give one the best chance of actually catching something. There were a lot of factors that went into it of course and water type pokemon could be fickle in their feeding habits but he was, by chance, picking an excellent time to practice his technique. The hook landed in the water and the young man settled in to wait.
As chance would have it he didn't have long to wait. Maybe ten minutes passed before the end of the rod began to twitch. Something under the water's surface was investigating the hook, as if trying to decide whether or not to take the chance. After another moment the twitching became a bit more pronounced till finally it jerked over and bent the rod. Something had definitely take the bait so to speak and now it was time to try and reel in his catch.
Damien had to struggle with the rod for a moment, fighting to keep the water type on the hook and reel it in to shore. The excitement of this first fishing experience wasn't lost on him! It was quite the rush and it seemed as if he would never get the fish close enough to capture it. Eventually he did though and got to see what had been giving him such a fight!

[nospaces] He couldn't believe his success! The process of battling the hooked fish with the old rod was an invigorating new experience. The pelting of rain was lost during the struggle. All focus was on bringing the flailing red scales above the water. Even though the ranger was aware what he was reeling in was the most common and weak of all things he could have possible caught it didn't matter. He was going to bring this karp onto the land.
[break] [break] If it wasn't for his tiny bit of experience at a fishing contest he might of even lost it, but finally the wriggling magikarp was pulled from the stormy waters and plopped onto the river bank. The young ranger was so excited for his own little victory it didn't click that he had just initiated a retaliation from the pokémon. The thought of throwing out one of his own allies hadn't even crossed his mind. It gave the confused fish plenty of opportunity to work up a careful set of flailing hops closer to Damien and soon...
[break] [break] The bursting feeling of victory and excitement was cut short as his face was assaulted by fin. A faint slap sounded just above the patter of the rain as the magikarp jumped right into the trainer. Magikarp got a few good hits in before Damien collected himself enough to bunt the fish away. Though, the water type was already falling to the ground. [break] "Settle down there," he spoke after a moment of recovery. The ranger glanced to the water at his side. No doubt that was where it wanted to return to, and it wouldn't have a problem with accidentally taking Damien with it.
[break] [break] How careless of him. Damien's fingers went to one of his less experienced pokémon, releasing the soft puffball that was a jigglypuff. She squeaked happily then blinked, turning up and holding out a stubby arm to catch the rainfall. [break] "Alright Maia, we're just trying to keep that magikarp from the river and calm it down a bit." She responded with a half twist and nod before turning her attention to the flopping fish.

One moment you were peacefully swimming along, snacking on what you find, the next you were flying through the air when the new thing you investigated pulled you out of the water. The magikarp wasn't pleased and made sure to make the culprint of the discomfort know about it. It didn't care about what the human said, it was not upset although it did get more annoyed when a round pink softie decided to stand in its way. It flailed and unceremoniously slammed into Maia, sending her staggering backwards. "Move! Get out of my way," it demanded afterwards, it had been told it was best to hit first and ask afterwards. The fish then wiggled its way towards the water but was stopped when a pound from Maia sent it flopping down on its side, where it was flapping helplessly with its upright fin. [nospaces] "Good work!" the boy cheered after his pink puff pokémon stopped the fish from her getaway back to the river. He felt a little bad for her, but the magikarp was putting up more of an actual fight than he had anticipated. Most stories he'd heard of the guppy revolved around how useless and ineffective it was. The ranger observed that the flailing hadn't been nearly as useless as he had been led to believe to this point.
[break] "You're a healthy one that's for sure. A hard worker," he spoke absentmindedly, unaware he was really talking aloud. Any wild magikarp that could pull together such a tackle must be a strong one.
[break][break] Maia lifted her chin after a nod of her success. She carefully circled around the magikarp to once again try and stand in its way. Though, she did take a moment to rub the sore spot her red-scaled adversary had left her with. Once positioned the jigglypuff pointed a stubby arm at the fish.
[break] [break] "Puff," she voiced matter-of-factly. Like a mother pointing out an obvious folly of a child. It probably wasn't the best to aggravate the floundering flatfish, being that she was a lot more sturdy than the powder puff standing in her way, but Maia wasn't shy in these matters. She was prepared for another pound should the carp make another move.

The water droplets poured from the open skies above. Dark nimbostratus clung in the skyway like mud. Their expansive form coupled with the showers that they shook from their grasp, completely erased the once-upon-a-time sunny blue skies above. Through momentary breaks, bits of the sun would poke and prod through around the hazy mass of dark rain clouds. Drip, drip, drop. The red scaly mass of bones and bare flesh flipped and flopped about on the ground. Wide eyes with tiny, almost unnoticeable pupils blinked and darted about aimlessly. Where was the attention span of the great floppy flounder? It bounced about in odd patterns, obviously inept for life above the sea. “Karp, karp? Magi karp?” Questions permeated the air and the scaly red flounder tossed questions accusingly towards the rotund round pink fluff ball. The strange young man donned with a red hat spoke to the small round pink fluff. The scaly red flounder narrowed its eyes at its adversary, ever the flip-floppity type. Smack! With a loud thwack of its huge white tail, the Magikarp kicked itself up off of the wet ground and sent itself spiraling into its opponent. “Karp! Magi karp!” The words, though mostly hollow and full of excess syllables, seemed to taunt the big pink fluff. What were ya gunna do? The fish flopped against her, knocking itself against the Jigglypuff with another slap of its floppity fins and scaly hide. This would cause Maia to roll back as the oily fishy Pokemon manage to clobber her with its mass. Though she would bounce back just as surely, and spring into action. The fish squealed out – a strange aquatic sound of short pained syllables and minute anguished sounds. “Kar!” Furry pink fairy arms slapped at her opponent to and fro. “Mag!” Magikarp obviously tried to flop and flounder out of reach, but only managed to make things worse. Fluffy pink paws managed to catch Magikarp on its side, while one managed to hit the flopping beast in the eye. One thing was for certain: now the scaly red flounder seemed angry and upset. Whereas moments before, the fish might have tried flipping and flopping its way back to water, now it seemed as though it wanted to finish this match. [nospaces] Maia quickly retreated back, a short gasp accompanying, after accidentally hitting the poor fish in the eye. She didn't mean to be that rough, but that was the risk of rough-housing. The pink puff didn't want to back off and weaken her position, staying firmly planted, in a manner of speaking, by the magikarp as the wild pokémon continued to flounder in the rain.
[break] "Jiggly," she voiced still with a tone of authority but definitely softer than her previous statements. Her high-pitched squeaky voice easily cut through the patter of raindrops slapping against the near river. "Jig jiggly." The fairy pokémon waved a hand as if waggling a finger to try and discourage the fish from trying anything further, but even she could tell that last attack and surely done it. She was in for it now.
[break] [break] Well. So long as the magikarp could keep it in short-term memory long enough. Or maybe a few more blows to the head would help the water type forgive the accidental eye tap. She broke from her stern staring for a moment to consider that option. Head tilting to the side and eyes raising to the stormy sky, it almost looked like a ball that was just slightly askew. Her momentary pondering brought a nubby arm to her chin as she hmmm'd.
[break] [break] "Puff." She nodded, a little smile growing on her face as she decided. Another few pounds it was going to be.
