With eyes down to the grass Madam was taken by surprise when something buzzed loudly right in front of her. Turning her eyes skyward it seemed she had accidentally cut another flier off. The bee pokémon huffed its annoyance.

Oddly enough neither Dorthea nor Madam had thought of looking to the sky, as they watched for bugs in the area. Maybe weirder still, the buzzing of the Combee didn't register before it was just on front of Madam. Madam startled and tried to apologize to the obviously annoyed fellow, but in that moment Dorthea interrupted "Woah, Madam! That came out of nowhere! Give it some distance with another Gust." Madam didn't give herself time to hesitate on the matter. It did feel awfully close, and she beat her wings faster to put some space between them. She was starting to get the hang of defending herself by attacking.

Hearing the declaration of attack the bee immediately went into defensive mode... Which wasn't too impressive defensively as all it started doing was making a pleasing sweet scent rise in the air. It was calming at best, making Madam feel more relaxed and less intimidated by the angry buzz. She whipped up her gust and sent the hive mind spinning in the air. The wild pokémon sounded like a engine cutting out as it tried to get itself back upright and facing the butterfly. A bit more angry now, though only barely managing to stay in the air, the bee whizzed forward and bit Madam on her foot. She shook it off, huffed a little, then sent the Combee off into the trees with another gust attack.

"That's it, Madam! That was beautiful!" Dorthea cheered, when Madam managed to blow the Combee away with a second gust of wind. Madam couldn't help but be a little pleased by the praise. Looking past her overly energetic ways, the human girl was doing her best to be nice, even considering Madam had shown less than stellar behavior for a long time. Madam took an extra careful look around, checking the sky for more she could have disturbed, and then settled a bit nearer the grass, picking out a sturdy looking straw for resting. Dorthea looked around too, but wasn't long in focusing on Madam. "You want a break, before we continue?" Madam made a show of nodding, and made experimenting gusts with her wings as Dorthea herself settled down to wait.

Settling down in a quieter part of the national park it was clear this place would normally be quite a respite from the bustle of the city. Past the shouts of trainers partaking in the contest the area was secluded from the hum of vehicles and rumble of construction, a gentle breeze shuffling over the center fountain and providing a nice gentle spray of cool water over the area. It was no wonder why the wild pokémon liked it here.

It took a bit, but before too long another bug pokémon would wander its way near Dorthea and Madam. It was similar to the bee from earlier, but had a much softer hum and looked like a fuzzball with wings. It circled the two a couple times in curiosity, seeming interested in why they were sitting down in the tall grasses; as if hiding like some of bug pokémon around. Eventually the cutiefly stopped and waved one of its dangling legs. A little naive it was.

Dorthea was rarely just still, and even when she was trying, movement came natural to her. As she sat waiting for Madam to be ready for another go, one foot was tapping the ground and her head bobbed to an unheard melody. She didn't think to make an effort to stop herself, as she wasn't out fishing currently. Madam enjoyed the quiet almost as still as had she still been a silcoon.
The arrival of the new bug was something for Dorthea's eyes to latch on to, and she followed it's flight around them. It seemed rather harmless, and not even Madam responded negative to its presence. "Looks like a cutie," Dorthea commented, feeling a bit strange at the word choice. She found it rare to associate a bug with 'cute'.

Madam waved back at the Cutiefly, and when Dorthea didn't suggest anything she figured she could let it be. The unfamiliar bug was so small and non-threatening that not even Madam could find anything to be frightened by. Instead she twittered in greeting, asking for its name. After a while, where Dorthea got more restless by the minute, Madam accepted it was time to move on, and offered a farewell to the Cutiefly, before they resumed the walk around.

As the pair waved their goodbye to Cutiefly and continued in the last bits of the contest one more bug would cross their path. Launching from a tree a Nincada cut them off. Tiny wings waving along with an aggressive stance hinted that it wasn't about to just let them walk away.

Madam startled when something launched itself out in front of them from a tree, but she stalled any response long enough for Dorthea to decide what to do about it. Dorthea didn't sound nearly as agitated as Madam felt. Actually, she rather sounded curious. "Oh, what's this?" Dorthea was thinking aloud again. "That does look very cool, but I'm not sure I want to give up the one we've got." Madam gave a couple of shrill sounds to illustrate she didn't like how it was looking at them. "Alright, alright, Madam. We're sticking with the first one. Since that one doesn't seem to let us go without a fight though, how about showing it that you are not to be messed around with. Air Cutter."
Madam sighed in relief and forced up some sharp air currents.

Nincada didn't even see it coming. With an elegant flourish the air itself seemed to rush in on the agitated bug pokémon and slice through its carapace. Its eyes went wide, its body stilled and hardened with the fright and fury of the air cutter, and within the next few seconds Nincada slumped to the ground unconscious.

Madam (lvl 23): Mega Drain, Stun Spore, Morning Sun, Air Cutter

"There you go, Madam!" Dorthea cheered as the Nincada fell over. "You're a tough lady!" she went on praising, and prouded herself of disregarding the sound of rushing air from the attack. Madam was no bird after all.
Madam was stunned for a moment, the attack had been that effective. The earlier Combee had taken more than one gust to deal with, and she wasn't entirely used to being the 'strong' in a fight. Letting it sink it she realised she maybe could take it a bit easier around others, but she did prefer being cautious.
Dorthea clapped her hands together in a decisive manner. "Well, that was number five. We better get back to the entrance and wait for Aglaia. Maybe she has even made it back before us."
