The hovering bird squinted at the young lad with a scrutinous gaze. Eyeing Bishop's open hands as he made clear his intentions and shuffled closer and closer. Pidgey was obviously pondering his options. It looked a little tired. Ruffled a bit even. Finally, though, he huffed an abrupt call of his namesake and moved out of the trainer's way. It flapped over to perch on the nearest branch of the dangling bird wrapped up in the kite string. With judging eyes it watched Bishop. Though it broke its observing stare to glance through the other arms of the tree quite often. The other bird however was purely occupied with trying to wriggle loose of its entanglement. It was quite a rats nest by this point, and the patter of rain wasn't making it any more comfortable. When Bishop was close it didn't make matters any better. The wild pokémon began to struggle more, nipping at the string with its beak. The other bird did nothing to calm the tied pidgey. The kite seemed to be well wedged higher in the tree, but at least the distressed pidgey was reachable without having to do any climbing. Parts of the bird seemed completely, but neatly, wrapped by string. A little odd, and it looked like those parts were a thicker string; almost gooey looking even. However, most of the strands were just an interwoven mess. With Pidgey freaking out the task to free it wasn't going to be very easy regardless. The bird was well spooked. The wild pidgey struggles harder the closer Bishop gets! How will Bishop try to help?

He gave the guardian Pidgey a reassuring smile, trying to calm it's nerves. A smile came to his face as it relented and let him pass. One down, one to go if he was going to help the poor little thing.
"That's the way. I only want to help," he said to the one who had perched nearby. Turning to the other though brought a concerned frown to his lips. The other one was tangled up something fierce and was freaking out as well. It was going to be hard to help without getting pecked or maybe hurting the poor little bird by accident. Not good. He was going to have to come up with something clever.
Even worse, he noticed the gooey looking strings mixed in with the ones from the kite. What could that be? Perhaps the little bird had been in a fight with a bug pokemon? And maybe it was still around? Taking a quick glance around he came to a decision and reached for the rest of his pokeballs.
"Alright, everyone out," he said, opening all the balls a little distance from the two Pidgeys. He kept careful watch on the one that was still free, hoping that it wouldn't chance it's mind about letting him help.
"You four keep an eye out in case some big bug or something tries to ambush me, ok?"
Ember, Blossom, Disco and Rex all nodded in understanding and very seriously took up guarding positions. Then, glancing back to the free bird he continued.
"Can you help me calm this one down?" he asked. "I don't want to hurt him, or her, by accident."
On a hunch he took some food from his pack, tossing some to the free Pidgey and then trying to offer some to the trapped one.
"Please, I'm only trying to help. If you carry on like that though one of us is going to get hurt."
He hoped reasoning with the bird in a calm tone would help. If not maybe the offer of food would. And if that failed as well he would have to ask Blossom to give it a hug in hopes that her Static ability would take the fight out of the bird long enough for him to get it free. This would have been so much easier he mused if he was a total cad and just tried to capture the bird.

With more pokeémon sent out on guard duty the uptight pidgey seemed to relax a bit. Those bushy eyebrow feathers lightening ever so slightly as he watched the trainer return to the tree with food in hand. He made another looking about the tree after the request for assistance then shuffled along the branch closer to the flailing bird. As the nibblet was tossed the guard pidgey plucked it from the air and held it in his beak, chirping a few times. For a brief moment the wild one's attention was caught, at which point the other bird gulped down the food square and chirped again, looking to Bishop and shuffling another half an inch closer. The display and follow up words made the tangled pidgey reconsider Bishop's presence. It looked to him, then his hand, then back to him. It struggled a little then set its gaze on the food again. Its head lurched forward and beak pinched around the offering before disappearing down the wild pokémon's gullet. No longer did it flail about, though it was clear it was still a bit wary of all its company. Just as everything seemed to head the way of smooth sailing something else made itself known. In a neighboring tree two shapes plummeted down with a splash. Little worms they were. Bright red in color with poisonous barbs on their behinds, albeit a little underdeveloped. The pair squeaked angrily and began a wriggling approach to Bishop only to be intercepted by the trainer's own pokémon. One of the worms shivered with uncertainty. But the duo were not alone. Still on the trunk a green spider hissed. A stream of sticky web flew out toward the guard pidgey but went wide on the side opposite Bishop. The spider then leapt down to stand in front of the two wurmple and hissed again. The guard pidgey squawked angrily at the set of bugs, talons digging into the bark of the tree as he leered down at the trio. Feathers ruffled it was clear they all had a history. But he remained perched by Bishop and the tangled one, figuring out of the four trainer pokémon they should fair as a more than fine line of defense. And it had been going so well too. Bishop almost had the trapped Pidgey calmed down enough so that he could untangle it. And then, true to form, they were ambushed by bugs. What was it his mother used to say about adventures? No plan every goes as it should and things will always foul up. Something to that effect even if he couldn't remember the exact phrased. And now here was this circumstance to prove the truth of her words.
Turning to face the bugs at this intrusion Bishop placed his body in such a way as to protect the Pidgey if one of these guys got past his own pokemon. Unlike a lot of young men he wasn't necessarily fond of bug pokemon, though Wurmples did have an interesting evolutionary line. As such he wasn't too concerned with catching any of these but he did need to get them out of the picture so he could finish his rescue mission.
"Rex, use bite on that one," he yelled, pointing the little Swinub towards the smallest of the bugs. Then, much like a traffic cop directing rush hour he continued, giving directions to the rest of the party. "Disco, tackle the other Wurmple. Ember, use your scratch attack on the Spinarak!"
Blossom he kept close in case there were any more surprises. With that in mind Bishop began to scan the area around to see if there were any more bugs waiting to jump to the attack. For the moment anyway things seemed to be safe other than the few bugs he could see.
"We'll get you out of there in a minute little friend," he said to the trapped bird. "Don't worry, you wont be bug food today."
Hopefully he could keep the little Pidgey reassured to prevent any more panic. Whatever the case though Bishop had to keep his attention on the fight with the bugs so his own pokemon didn't get beat up too badly.

Despite the patter of rain sizzling against her tail, Ember was fired up enough from the ambush it was barely a bother. At the call from Bishop she set off well ahead of anyone else. Charging into the rank of bugs, arm outstretched with tiny white claws extended, she was upon the spinarak before it had done anything but twitch. Her paw swept down and raked across the back of the spider. A trio of tears broke up that smiley face patterned on the less than happy bug pokémon. Following after Ember, Disco teetered along in quite the impressive dance. Wurmple had no idea what to make of it. Was the bear actually going to make an attack against it, or one of the others? The normal type's awkward path did it a great advantage as Disco was able to close in easily then make a sudden perpendicular lunge at the young worm. The wild pokémon squeaked breathlessly as it was rolled over by the tackle. Head spinning the poor thing couldn't dare to keep looking at the spinda or risk getting confused. Instead it looked to the aggressive spider hissing away at the fiery lizard. Spinarak noticed the wurmple looking for direction and gave a signal with one of its legs. As Ember backed carefully away, expecting an angry retaliation, the spider parted its chelicerae and out spewed another wave of thick sticky webbing. Ember attempted to swat as much as she could away but there was just too much of it; she was completely covered. And with her dealing with the new addition to her body the wurmple Disco batted away made a rolling go at her. Like a loose wheel the bug bumped into the charmander, bouncing up along her leg to knock her lightly in the chin before rebounding off and away. It was minor but still made her jaw hurt. On the other end of the battle the two youngest combatants waged their own little war. The smallest wurmple was obviously not too comfortable with being here but was still an opponent threatening the team. Rex wriggled his nose and skittered forward, opening his mouth and getting a good bunch of worm in his mouth as he bit down. Wurmple managed to half turn so its butt was taking the brunt of it, but it hit just the right spot to momentarily incapacitate the wild pokémon with pain. The worm shivered and squealed. From the sidelines the guard pidgey squawked his support. Its feathers began to smooth out seeing the success of Bishop's team. Even the tangled bird remained relatively relaxed seeing all the support it was getting. The trainer's words of promised freedom helped. It chirped quietly and wriggled a little bit more, though just to get a little comfier. As much as it could while tied up anyway. Things were going alright so far but Bishop couldn't help but be a little concerned. This was Rex's first battle and he was still such a little fellow. He would have to keep careful watch on how the little Swinub was doing to keep him from fainting. It was a fine line between letting him get a bit of experience and pushing the pokemon too far too soon.
This was also Disco's first battle as part of the party and the rain was not a great environment for Ember to be fighting in. These concerns passed through Bishop's subconscious mind in the blink of an eye as he weighed all of that against the current state of the battle. One had to process these things quickly after all to be a decent trainer and he was determined to be one of the best!
"Rex, bite the Wurmle again!" he said, voice raising above the sound of the rain and the din of the fight.
"Ember, try to scratch the spider again and Disco, you tackle the Spinarak too!"
The big spider seemed to be the biggest threat they were facing. The Wurmples could of course cause damage and slow down his pokemon with their webbing. They were a secondary threat though. The spider was bigger, harder to bring down and, apparently, in charge of the other two. And if all else failed he still had Blossom who could rotate in to replace any of his own party that got hurt badly.
"Blossom, you stay ready. I may need to send you in to fight soon!"
He glanced down towards his dirt loving Pikachu and smiled to see that she seemed ready to go if need be. He was still confident about the final outcome but didn't want his party to get hurt too much in getting there.

With Ember now all caught up in its webbing Spinarak moved into another kind of constrictive move. The fiery lizard was plenty slow, and with the web still connected the spider expertly maneuvered the position of its strings to put an oppressive force upon the fire type. The more Ember resisted the tighter the wrapping became, right to the point of it becoming really hard to breath. The charmander slashed with its tiny claws but the webbing was just too sticky to fully remove. However, between the tension at Spinarak's end and the ripping of web on Ember's end the attack was ceased as the trail connecting the two snapped. The constriction stopped and Ember was able to finally catch her breath. At Bishop's command Disco adjusted her sights onto the spider as it worked its sticky mess. The green bug was so intent on the fire pokémon that it didn't see the bear coming. Only by the luck if timing did it avoid a devastating squish as the stumbling spinda came in for his tackle. When the webbing suddenly snapped the spider jolted back a little, putting Disco's aim just a tad off, but the hit was still a harsh blow on the abdomen. The larger wurmple wasn't too far behind either. Worried about getting a scolding from the scarier bug the worm charged forward and delivered its own tackle to push Disco off of Spinarak. The way cleared, and lungs full of air, Ember pattered through the rain puddles and clawed at Spinarak again. The spider hissed and skittered away with some difficulty. Huffing it glared back at the charmander and took to assessing the situation while getting its bearings back. Things weren't looking too good for it. Even on the other end Rex was keeping a hold on the advantage. The little wurmple worked up enough courage to come at the icy hog and land a good tackle, but it couldn't compare with the bite Rex returned. The wild pokémon whimpered and made some distance between them again to glance at its allies, but it didn't look like it was going to be receiving any help any time soon. Bishop was feeling rather pleased that his team was doing so well thus far. True, it would be easier as they leveled and learned some additional attacks but he couldn't fault their fighting spirit. All three of them were doing very well and he was glad for it. Now to press the advantage while they had it!
"Rex, your doing great! Keep biting that Wurmple. Your almost there!"
Indeed, his youngest pokemon was doing quite well for himself. If he made it through this fight without getting knocked out it would be a huge experience for him. It would build him up in both levels and confidence!
"Disco, tackle the Wurmple that hit you. Hit him as hard as you can!"
He didn't figure the little bear would need much encouragement on that part. Disco seemed pretty annoyed at being blindsided while fighting the Spinarak. And speaking of the spider it looked to be on it's last legs. It shouldn't take too much more to take i out of the fight. And if they took it out the little bugs wouldn't last very long at all.
"Fight through it Ember. The spider is almost done. Scratch it again!"
Bishop felt sorry for his Charmander. She wasn't the fastest pokemon to begin with and the webs were just slowing her down still more. Beating her foe and gaining some valuable experience here though would make her stronger which was the ultimate goal after all. They just had to press forward as a team to win this thing.
"You stay ready," he said, sparing a sideways glance towards Blossom, his dirt loving Pikachu who seemed to be enjoying her role as observer. "I might need to send you in if any of the others get hit too bad."
She glanced up at him and seemed to nod. It seemed that the battle was in hand. They just needed to finish it up.

The extra precaution would swiftly be shown as unneeded as Disco powered forward to give some payback to the burlier wurmple. The bear's weight was more than enough to get an edge over the smaller worm. Just unrolling from its previous attack Disco was able to knock the air out of the rolly-polly with a solid body slam. It was more than it could handle. All its defenses down Disco had caught the perfect window of opportunity and rendered the bug pokémon unconscious. Spinarak was soon to follow. Though it made the best final stand it could think of by lunging onto Disco's back and trying to absorb some stamina. Feeling a prick on the back of his neck followed by a light drain of energy, the spinda growled and spun. Whirling around it finally whipped the little spider off with expert precision; or complete fluke. Regardless, the slightly rejuvenated arachnid was thrown to its back basically at Ember's feet. With a huff the charmander took a breath, eyes locked onto the aggressive bug's own before swiping down and finishing it off. That was two down. The only one left was the timid wurmple battle away with the baby swinub. The two carefully approached each other for another exchange. Each worming ever so slightly closer, partially circling, watching... But Rex took advantage of being the more bold and suddenly lurched forward. Wurmple flinched and turned, falling right into Rex's plan and allowing yet another piercing bite. Wurmple cried and squirmed, barely keeping its bearings by the time the swinub was done. The wild pokémon looked to its allies only to find them all unconscious and the other two trainer pokémon ready to bear down upon it. It cried again and curled up into itself as if playing dead. It stayed there. Quiet and unmoving, obviously giving up on the fight it didn't really want to be a part of to begin with. It's only hope was that the trainer would decide to give it mercy and move on. Both pidgey were ecstatic at the victory, chirping away in congratulation of the successful repellent of the bugs. Now it was just a matter of freeing the one little bird and then they could all get out of the rain. VICTORY!

Sometime into the untangling of the bird Bishop and his group would be visited by another party, though this one was much more friendly than the last. "Hullo! Hey mister!" came the squeaky voice of a young child. There were two in approach, one clearly before schooling age and another a little older. Both were geared for the wet weather and looked rather happy to see the older boy. The pidgey that had been keeping guard over the kite strings chirped and took to the air to circle around the young kids as they approached. "Good job Coco!" the preschooler chimed, stopping to let the little bird plop down on her hat. The young boy with her kept heading toward Bishop. "Looks like you had your hands full," he began, glancing at the twitching bugs not too far away. "Thank you for taking care of this all. My sister was playing with her kite and when it got stuck in the tree with the pidgey she didn't know what to do but come get me.""Yeah!" the youngest interjected, splashing up to stand beside her older brother and beam a smile up at Bishop. "I couldn't reach up there and then there were all these pokémon. I told Coco to stay and defend Pidgey from everything till I got back." The pidgey puffed out its chest as he sat atop her head. "I would battle you but Coco seems kinda worn out," she added suddenly, trailing off a bit as she went into thought. "Amy, that's not really appropriate when he just helped you out," her brother commented, soon after apologizing to Bishop for his little sister. But she just giggled and slipped a hand from her bag and lifted up both hands to offer Bishop a little mushroom. "I wanted to reward. But you do that after a battle right? So maybe the bugs fight will be good enough?" Preschooler Amy gave Bishop her treasure for helping Pidgey! The two then make to depart to get out of the rain Thread Unreserved

"Thank you very much," he said with a smile as he accepted the little girls reward. "Glad that I was able to be of assistance." He couldn't help but chuckle to himself a bit as the two children and Coco took their leave. It had been an eventful afternoon and, despite being soaking wet in the rain, it gave Bishop a good feeling to have done a good deed for the day. They seemed like good kids and he wished them a speedy journey to somewhere warm and dry. Turning to survey the scene he noted with some pride that his own pokemon were still in pretty good shape despite the fight. He helped Ember to get the rest of the webbing off and gathered his little party together under a large tree that sheltered them from the rain. It was then he paused to go up to the smaller of the two wurmple they had fought. The poor thing still seemed to be scared and out of sorts. Taking out a pokeball he knelt down beside it and spoke in a calm and reassuring voice. "Why don't you come with me little guy? Doesn't look like your other friends took very good care of you. If you want to travel with me I'll teach you to be big and strong like my other friends. I'll at least try to keep you from getting beat up....and we have food." The little bug perked up at the mention of a good meal and scooted over a little closer to Bishop. For his part he took out a pokeball and after only a moments hesitation touched it to his new party member. Wurmple was sucked in to the ball to complete the link but Bishop let him out just as quickly. "There now, that wasn't so bad, was it?" Leading his new friend over to join the others he continued: "Everyone, I want you to meet Skitter. That's a good name for you. He'll be joining us now. So, who is hungry?" They ate for awhile and then he tended their wounds and let everyone rest beside a small fire and under the tree that kept them dry. After everyone was recovered they set off again to see what sort of adventure they could find next. The entire mood of route 29 took a full 180 turn as the wurmple was accepted into Bishop's friendly band and the group ate a good meal and warmed up by a crackling fire. The rain stopped, clouds began breaking, and the sounds of wildlife returned to the bordering woods. It was still a little chilly even with the trickles of sunlight peaking through the scattered cloud cover but it didn't seem so dreary anymore. Though it probably helped when there wasn't a pidgey tangled in a tree. By the time they snuffed out their little campfire and got back on the road it was a pleasant autumn day. No doubt they wouldn't be the only ones returning to traveling so it was only a matter of time before something crossed Bishop's path. However, they seemed to be able to go quite a ways without anything cropping up. There were plenty of signs of things nearby but nothing was revealing itself to the group. But then... Blossom would feel a little prick at her side. Looking down a pebble could be seen bouncing away with a quiet clatter. Scanning the area nothing really stood out though. Odd. Carrying on it happened again. This time a muddy pellet was caught by her apron. Another quick look around there was nothing immediately obvious but Blossom was sure something was out there being a pest; and she would be right. Pressed against a tree between some bushes, covered in a sort of slapped together ghillie suit, was a wild pokémon. It giggled maniacally and bound out onto the path. The scout pokémon stood up on its thick tail and taunted Bishop and his crew all the while covered in mud, twigs, and leaves. A Sentret (LV 4) appeared! Bishop was enjoying the change in the weather. He had had enough of rain to last him for awhile. It was much nicer to sit somewhere dry and watch it then it was to be out walking in the wet! Maybe if it was warmer out he would feel different but Autumn was definitely in the air and with it the chill of Winter to come. A day walking in dry weather was more than welcome.
He was in fact so busy enjoying the weather that he didn't hear the first stone. Only a brief awareness of Blossom grumbling about something filtered its way into his consciousness. Likewise the sound of the second stone escaped his notice but he did glance down to see what his Pikachu was so annoyed about. That was when the Sentret jumping out into their path registered on him and Bishop glanced up to assess this new threat.
Now to say he was surprised would be an understatement. Not that he didn't expect to see Sentret in this area. He was quite hoping to in fact. Seeing how it had covered itself in mud and leaves though stunned him for a second. Had it been rolling in a leaf pile? Or was it just odd in a similar way that his own Blossom was? Well, he would just have to catch it and find out. Bishop did after all have a soft spot in his heart for the eccentric pokemon out there.
Seeing as how Blossom was already out and would need some more experience before they challenged the Flying gym he opted to let her have first crack at this little scout. Odds are he wouldn't have been able to stop her since she seemed rather irritated at this point. Just as well to let her go at him and see if she could stun it into submission.
"Blossom, use mud shot!" he called out, hoping to weaken this new opponent before trying the capture.

Sentret thought that taunting the young trainer would not lead to anything too bad happening to it as many other Pokemon had done the same thing with nothing more than a scratch or two to show for it so as Blossom started to pile up a mound of mud Sentret thought nothing of it until the young Pikachu flung the pile of mud right into its face. The mud was so thick it not only mixed with the twigs, leaves, and mud already in its fur it also slowed the normal type down to a crawl as slow as it was compared to Blossom. It was also painful as some of the mud went into its eyes causing them to water as the poor Pokemon tried to stay focused and get revenge on Blossom before she could cause any more damage with her mud throwing antics. Sentret moved forward at such a laughably slow speed that Blossom nearly chuckled at the sight not realizing the normal type was actually trying to cause harm now and it was not until after Sentret delivered a full bodied tackle that she realized just how much she had underestimated the young normal type even if its attack had caused less damage. Even with her minor mistake she was still very much in charge of the battle as the first round came to a close with few signs pointing to any problems in the battle ahead. The nice weather was also helpful as it took away any help the young Sentret might have received if it had better luck. Sentret could only hope for a remarkable string of miracles as the next round was about to start. Battle Weather: Clear Sentret | LV 4 HP: 67% (12/18) Status: Normal, Speed -1 Used Tackle!! VS

Bishop almost cheered seeing how successful Blossom's first attack was. It seemed fortunate that she was the pokemon out walking with him when the Sentret had shown up. She seemed the perfect pokemon from his party to take out the little scout without knocking it out so it could be an easier capture.
While it might not be wise to count your pokemon before the ball was thrown he found himself already thinking up a nick name for the little critter and what kind of role it could play in his party. Sentret's were particularly valuable, at least in his reckoning, due to the number of moves they could be taught by HM's. They were very flexible in the things they could do and made for a great traveling companion. Even if they were a bit odd as this one seemed to be. Then again most of his pokemon were just a little odd so maybe it would fit right in.
Blossom, for her part, seemed to be enjoying the battle and might even be leaning towards over confidence here. While Bishop assumed they were going to win as well he didn't really want to leave anything to chance. As the trainer it was his job to keep all these things in balance to help assure victory.
"Blossom, use Mud Shot again. Let's take this one down and add her to the party."
The Pikachu glanced his way only a second and with a twinkle in her eye. Blossom sometimes liked to show off a bit but he was sure she was going to keep her head in the battle and not do anything silly. With a bit of luck they should have a brand new Sentret to add to the party.....after she had a bit of a bath of course. Bishop wasn't sure what the deal with covering herself with leaves and mud were but he imagined she would want a bit of a clean up after this.

Sentret was already in trouble as the next round started between its speed and health both being lower than Blossom but to add to the ever growing lists of problems the young Pikachu was already preparing to attack again before it could make any decision involving the battle and before long its indecisiveness costed it again as Blossom started to pile up another blob of mud. As she fired the mud at Sentret the poor normal type did not have a single clean patch of fur left as its speed fell even more along with its health dropping to a dangerously low level. Now that Sentret was in the danger zone it had to act despite the lack of any helpful options for it to make. The agressive choice was its only hope as it went to make another Tackle. Blossom did not even try to get out of the way as despite her mistake in the first round she could not stop laughing at the pathetic effort Sentret tried to put forward as it walked towards her to strike again. A Metapod could have beaten it in a race but the Tackle was a bit less funny as Blossom received more damage from the attack. The two Tackles were still pretty weak but she was finally starting to show a little bit of energy loss as she needed a second after the Tackle to fully recover from the hit. Sentret on the other hand could hardly stand after finishing its attack as its chances of winning this battle had fell to nearly zero. The miracles it needed had yet to show up and now even a miracle seemed unlikely to help. Battle Weather: Clear Sentret | LV 4 HP: 33% (6/18) Status: Normal, Speed -2 Used Tackle!! VS
