Silver was a bit annoyed as Damien healed Storm with a Potion but he saw it as a perfect chance to strike again while his Zubat could still battle. " Zubat use Astonish." The bat then rushed towards Storm before swooping right in front of the sheeps face. " Do it again before it can strike." Silver ordered as Zubat made another pass. This time Storm was ready and as soon as Zubat tried to retreat Storm scored a direct hit with Thundershock. Silver grew quite angry at losng one of his Pokemon but he still had one more he could use. " Chikorita turn this disaster around before you face my wrath next." He snarled as the grass type Pokemon got ready for the next round. Storm gains 3 levels and is now level 12. He is trying to learn Cotton Spore but he already knows 4 moves. Would you like him to forget a move so he can learn Cotton Spore? Silver is not finished yet, he sends out Chikorita (Level 12). Would you like to switch Pokemon?

(OOC: Forget Growl in favor of Cotton Spore please.)
The Astonish attack from the opponent's Zubat still managed to deal a decent amount of damage, but after healing with the potion, the victor of the first round had already been clear. The electric sheep Pokemon's attack knocked the Zubat out of the sky with incredible power, leaving it on the ground with no energy left, unable to continue the battle anymore. Storm jumped up in the air a few times, as if doing a jolly little victory dance, and then turned back to Damien, filled with excitement. His tail jiggled as he jumped up and down excitedly.
But the battle hadn't been won yet. The trainer released another Pokemon out of a Pokeball, but this time it was a higher level Pokemon. A stronger Pokemon. It was a grass-type entirely native to the Johto region, a Chikorita. The leaf Pokemon. Damien knew Storm could win the battle, but as to how many potions it would take would be variable and could be many due to the ineffectiveness of electric-type attacks on grass-type Pokemon. "Good job Storm!" Damien said to his Pokemon, before pulling out another Pokeball. "Let's let another one of our teammates have this fight," he said as he called Storm back from the battlefield and released his red-nosed and slightly timid Deerling, Snowball. He also allowed his young Phanpy, Kenyatta, out of its Pokeball to watch and learn from the battle that was going on.
"Alright Snowball, let's show this guy what we can do together!" Damien said. "Hit that Chikorita with a Double Kick!" Snowball turned back to Damien and gave a dedicated nod. Se then began to charge the Chikorita with as much speed as she could muster on her four legs, going in for a close combat double kick attack. They would win or lose every battle together, never alone. And all of Damien's Pokemon knew that.
They were a team, or more precisely, a family.
(OOC: Kenyatta is sent out to battle Chikorita(x0 turn), Snowball switches in(x1 turn) and uses Double Kick(x1 turn)!)

Silver narrowed his eyes suspiciously when Damien recalled his electric type and then called two pokemon out instead. He wasn't surprised that Damien didn't continue with a pokemon that had the disadvantage against his own but was he really going to send a ground type like phanpy out into battle? "Growl! Give them a scare and let them know what is in store for them," Silver ordered and she obliged, her size and cuteness didn't really help making her look threatening. It would almost have the opposite affect on the timid deerling as she would relax a bit by the cute look of her opponent. Snowball spun around the moment she reached the other grass type and with a couple of swift kicks with her hindlegs she send Chikorita skidding backwards. "Retaliate you little twig! Give it a Tackle!" Silver snapped at Chikorita who leaped forward determined and sent Snowball staggering with a well aimed tackle attack.

The way the red-haired trainer treated his Pokemon really angered Damien. Every word spoken in his distasteful attitude made Damien mad. In all his time as a volunteer at the Goldenrod Pokemon Center or in any of his own adventures, the only other person he had seen treat their Pokemon quite this bad was the Team Rocket Grunt they had previously faced in Cherrygrove City. It was quite appalling and disgusting to the somewhat new trainer to see any trainers treat their Pokemon that way. But, Damien recognized that if he was to let his anger control him here, he would be no better than this trainer.
"Great hit, Snowball!" Damien turned his attention back to where it needed to be, as the deerling had landed a pretty solid hit onto the opposing chikorita. By the demanding orders of their trainer, however, the chikorita was quickly back into the fight. A precise launch of the "little twig" would send the poor Pokemon tackling Snowball into the snow, which was still piled around the trail along the route. Snowball was back into it quickly though, shaking snow off of her nose and focusing back on the chikorita. That's it Snowball, you're doing amazing!"
Ph-phanpy! Kenyatta cheered for Snowball from the sidelines, stomping her feet into the snow excitedly. It had been a short time that the phanpy had been travelling with the team, but she was quickly taking a liking to Snowball and looked up to her. For the strong-yet-shy deerling, the phanpy's excitement gave her encouragement that she might not otherwise have been able to find alone in a tense situation. In fact, the whole team did a pretty good job of motivating each other. With the five other Pokemon next to Damien in cheering on Snowball, it would've been extremely hard to mistake the look that the deerling carried for anything other than a smile.
Snowy," Damien said, "Let's show them the true power of teamwork. Let's try and hit him with another Double Kick! I know you can do this!"
Without a moment of hesitation, Snowball charged at the chikorita, making sure to make it a quick strike and to not let the Pokemon have much of a window to evade the attack. The deer hooves pounded onto the snow as the deerling moved forward quite gracefully.

"Pathetic!" Silver scoffed without it being clear whom he meant, Chikorita lowered her head a bit so she certainly thought it was about her. Silver looked disdainfully at Damien. "Snowball? What are you? 8?" He asked mockingly and then shook his head. "There are no team work here, you just do the same thing over and over and take advantage of your pokemon's type. Does it even know it or does it think it is your 'friendship' that is saving the day?" He asked with a roll of his eyes. He gave Damien as long time to answer as it took Snowball to race forward, with Chikorita glancing back at her trainer with increasingly panic but Silver gave her no order. The deerling's hooves made clear contact with the other grass type and sent her sprawling to the ground. "This is a waste of time, nothing new to learn here," Silver muttered and then added sounded bored. "Pull yourself together Chikorita, if you can't handle something as weak as that you wont last long. Give it a Tackle and put some strength behind it this time," he growled and she staggered to her feet. She shook her head and then leaped forward and slammed into Snowball and knocking her out of balance, the chikorita looked crestfallen when she didn't managed to get her smaller opponent to fall and she dared not to look at Silver as she took her place in front of him again. Damien watched at what he thought was the chikorita's trainer belittling it, feeling bad for it. It was only a matter of seconds before then he realized the trainer was talking to him, as he scoffed at the nickname of Damien's deerling. The remark caused Snowball to look down at the ground for a moment. Poochy snarled from the sideline, and the others had a somewhat aggressive look to their face towards the trainer. Kenyatta had almost taken a charge at the trainer, but it seemed like Kara had taken a position of cooling her down and holding her back. The more Silver spoke, the more Damien became upset with the opposing trainer... And Snowball could tell that Silver's spiteful and ill-intended attitude was at least somewhat making its way through to him. After making her attack on the opposing grass-type, the deerling looked up at Damien. Her santa hat stood snug on her head, and continued to jiggle around a bit with each motion the deerling made, just as it always had. Her red nose, it was the same as always. And what Damien or this trainer didn't know was how she was made fun of by other Pokemon and other trainers before Damien found her. The way Damien had accepted Snowball... Made her feel something she had never felt before.
The look she gave back to Damien was a comfortable one. The bond they had, even in the somewhat short time they had been together, wasn't going to be destroyed so easily. She had a smile and Damien could only muster a smile back towards her.
Wham!
A swift tackle from the chikorita was almost enough to topple Snowball over. The deerling quickly whipped around to try and make a counter as soon as it could after a moment of hesitation in surprise, not able to retaliate in time before it could be back in its assumed position in-front of the red-haired trainer. If Silver had planned the distraction, that was darn good planning. An interesting and quite brute battle strategy if nothing else.
"Let's get back in this Snowball," Damien said. "Together, we are stronger than him. In strength, but also in spirit. Be ready to hit the chikorita with a swift double kick."
"So what do you think?" Damien asked the trainer. "Why are you fighting alongside, or rather behind, this chikorita against me now? What's your reason?" As he spoke, Damien tried to avoid any sarcasm and spoke with genuine curiosity, except for maybe a little when talking about the poor little chikorita that he felt the trainer was taking advantage of just for personal gain. In any tough situation, Damien always tried his best to never lose sight of his goals as a trainer.
"The main reasons my Pokemon and I battle is to become closer together, make new friends, and sometimes even help those in need. We enjoy it. Most of the excitement is in the adventure, striving for victory, not so much the victory itself, I feel like. The sport of battling is fun, sure, but I would never put winning above the reasons I battle." Damien turned back to the rest of his Pokemon on the sideline. Poochy and the others had calmed down just a tad bit.
Damien's own personal upset had boiled down a bit as he felt like he was just in what he said. He explained his reasons for what he did, and there was no more justification needed, or so he felt. That was simply why he battled. Now, he felt like he could return to the battle with a calm head.
"We all believe in you and have your back, Snowball." Snowball gave a proud nod. From Damien's side, five other nods came, even from a young phanpy who was just learning what it was like to be part of the team. Even with all their different personalities and individual differences, they all felt important on the team and were glad to be there.

Silver huffed at Chikorita's tackle and rolled his eyes and groaned as Damien continued to blabber about team work and being strong in spirit. Chikorita looked up and seemed confused, it had never been a thing she had heard before and it made little sense to her. Her trainer had never said anything like that, only corrected her when she made a mistake. Silver raised an eyebrow and looked like he preferred to just ignore what Damien said all together, nevertheless he decided to answer. "Not that it will make sense to you, but I actually try get stronger and get stronger pokemon, so we can advance and fight some real trainers," he said slowly and smirked, pleased with himself. Damien's answer to the same question earned another eyeroll from Silver. "So you get friends by beating them up? I like to see how you was as a kid then!" Silver mocked with a laugh. "So basically you are training for fun," Silver said and made quotation marks in the air with his fingers when he said the last. "Wasting the time of all us who actually take it seriously by fooling around. You aren't winning anything with pretty words and friendship, here there is needed strength, tactics and determination! You can cheer on your pokemon as much as you want but they can't make any difference if they don't have the skills to back it up!" Silver spat and groaned loudly when Damien gave his 'order'. "I'll need to show you what I mean, and then Chikorita will actually learn something from this poor excuse of a battle," Silver snarled and the grass type glanced worried at him. "Keep your focus on your opponent!" He snapped at Chikorita and she quickly turned her head back at Snowball that came bounding towards her. The kicks were as swift and precise as the last time and even though Chikorita tried to dodge it this time, she failed. "Get up!" Silver said coldly and she staggered back up to her feet. "Razor Leaf," he ordered and hope and determination lightened up her eyes, this was her strongest move! Now things was going to happen! The leaves sliced through the air straight at Snowball and they buried deep into the deerling... and disappeared. Chikorita gaped as Snowball clearly was fine, actually she looked completely unharmed from the attack, perhaps even somehow a bit stronger? Silver's words cut into her confusing. "As I expected, it has the ability that makes it immune to grass type attacks." Chikorita's eyes widened in shock, Silver looked at Damien with another smirk. "Too scared to actually take a chance? Always playing it safe so you can pretend that your 'belief' can make a difference," Silver said disdainfully with a shake of his head. Chikorita stared at Snowball with a look of hurt betrayal which turned into a more somber one as she exhaled, they hid what they did behind pretty words. Silver was right, you couldn't trust the world to be as it seemed. "Why can't you simply do both?" Damien asked the smug red-haired trainer. "What's stopping you from making friends and becoming stronger, having fun while doing it? Answer this, is there something wrong with that?" Damien felt that Silver's logic and strategy in reaching his goals was quite flawed. As the razor leaf attack came closer, Damien watched as the razor leaf attack barraged Snowball, something that should've done a decent bit of damage, regardless of the type match-up. Snowball's body seemed to absorb the leaves, however, and it seemed to only make her stronger.
Watching the chikorita's shock with Snowball's absorbing ability, Damien wondered if there was something he could do to help the chikorita not take the path that Silver was taking. The path that, indeed, could lead Silver and his Pokemon to great strength, but the path they appear to be taking to get there is not such a healthy or friendly kind of path. It seemed as if the chikorita was just a tool for Silver to use to get where he wanted, not so much of a partner. That angered Damien.
"Snowball, let's attack with another Double Kick!" Damien felt somewhat defeated from the battle and Silver's attitude. Sure, this was clearly going to be a win for him and his team from the battle standpoint, but was it really a win though? No one appeared to be having fun in this here battle. He doubted he had made a difference in Siver's viewpoint, and he was sad because he couldn't help the young chikorita. At least, there was nothing he could think of. Snowball darted towards the opponent's chikorita once more, preparing to strike quickly with its hooves.
"The route you take," Damien spoke, "Is nothing less than those the Team Rocket members take to make themselves stronger. You can become the strongest in the world still, on this path, but in the end, you are truthfully no better than them. You can become stronger with your Pokemon as partners, friends even. Or you can choose not to. In the end, the decision is up to you."

The red-head rolled his eyes as the other trainer continued to ramble on in ignorance of how things really worked. At the very least, how they would have to work... for him. Unbeknownst to this do-gooder, who probably didn't have even half the real life experience Silver did, there was no path toward his goal that would allow for such childish fantasies. A hand went to the bridge of his nose as the teen finished the next round of questions. Why can't you do both, he says. Silver didn't have the words for this. Had he not just finished mentioning bullies? Perhaps this kid needed it spelled out for him. All this talk was making him lose focus. Chikorita glanced between the santa-hat deerling and its trainer, watching as the latter's face grew brighter with frustration. The grass type twisted her head around to peak at her own trainer just as he removed the hand from his face and sighed quietly. If there was something to appreciate between the two trainer's personalities it was that hers kept collected: a rock of sorts. A bit distant and cold perhaps, but stable. Her head snapped back as Damien gave his next command, Silver responding, "Poison Powder." By the time the move was fully spoken Snowball was already nearly in range. The chikorita was watching carefully, crouched down to try and avoid as much of the attack as she could despite the differences in their speed. As the fawn's hooves came flying she managed to avoid the worst of it but it was still a devastating hit altogether. With a pale white edging into her vision the leaf pokémon whipped her head around to generate a cloud of poisonous spores. Unfortunately Snowball was already retreating by the time they hit the air. The failure of chikorita's attack however was nothing in comparison to what the red-head's opponent said next. The light frown that had been on his face darkened to a hateful stare toward the other trainer. "You have no idea what Team Rocket is like," he seethed. "They don't battle to get stronger, they can barely tie the laces to their boots let along manage to train anything. All of their success comes from robbery and bullying. I don't use up stolen pokémon and leave them bloodied on the streets if they can't handle a fight."Chikorita gathered herself up. One eye closed and a limp she backed up a few steps toward Silver, still willing to keep battling for her trainer. "I don't waste my time on weaklings," he added, hands balled into fists. He almost continued but seemed to stop himself from continuing further. He didn't have to explain himself to this ignorant juvenile. The comment had just gotten under his skin. It shouldn't have. Chikorita may lose this one, but if he didn't believe she had potential he wouldn't have her in the first place. She just needed a strong will to guide her to greatness. Silver collected himself and prepared for the end of the battle. It was a blow to his pride to lose to this kid, but it was experience none-the-less. vs. Silver Weather: Clear [attr="class","qkt-bkgd"] [attr="class","qkt-wild-pkmn"] [attr="class","qkt-clip"]Chikorita LV 12 HP 13% [5/36] [attr="class","qkt-wild-imgbox"] [attr="class","qkt-pkmn-img"] [attr="class","qkt-trainer-pkmn"] [attr="class","qkt-clip"]Snowball LV 13 HP 73% [31/42] [attr="class","qkt-trainer-imgbox"] [attr="class","qkt-pkmn-img"] Chikorita [Overgrow]:(spd 19) Normal ... After the failed poison powder attempt by Silver's chikorita to poison Snowball, Damien noticed he had begun to get under the skin of the red-haired trainer, regardless if he had meant to or not. Either way, Damien was exhausted himself of simply trying to talk to the trainer. Their ideals weren't aligned. And they weren't going to be. No matter how much either of them tried to get the other side to understand, neither case would prevail. A story of the immovable object and the unstoppable force, if you will. Neither side was going to win it.
"At least we can agree on something," Damien said. "Team Rocket needs to go. I am glad to see we share hatred towards them, even with as bad and destructive as a weapon hate is." Damien sighed a bit. It wasn't something hard to agree on, Damien was sure just about everyone not apart of Team Rocket wanted to rid them of Johto, but it was indeed something. Damien sighed. He didn't understand why Team Rocket could even do the things that they do, and why they did them. It was unjustifiable and purely nefarious. They were capable of getting away with it all too often due to their large numbers and wrongful practices in terms of their Pokemon. That couldn't be the key to strength. Surely someone could rise up to beat them. Damien had beaten the thieving grunt in Cherrygrove just a few days prior, but that was just one! Who knows how many they had? One less member in their hideout and one more arrested is still helpful, however, and Damien knew that.
Snowball turned back to him, as Damien's mind had wondered away from the battle. "Oh, right." Damien said. You know what to do Snowball!" With a nod, the deerling charged towards the chikorita in an impressively quick dash for another Double Kick, what would likely be the final hit. The opposing grass-type appeared to be quite weakened down by now. One hit was all it should take.

The battle would finally end. Hooves beating down on his weakened chikorita Silver felt each one as they sounded, and with each his scowl grew. But it was fine. The words echoing hollow in his mind as he brought his pokémon's ball out to withdraw her from the field. He knew where he had erred and would correct it for the future. "Useless," he muttered under his breath, a single word slipping from the rampage of his inner thoughts. With both of his pokémon fainted he had to concede the battle to Damien. One hand delving into a pant pocket he stepped forward. "You win this one." He paused, jaw nearly clenched as he approached his opponent to honor the unspoken custom of all proper trainers. "Maybe if all that friendship gets you any badges I'll see you again when I'm stronger." A light jab, but one way Silver could prove he was gaining toward his goal would be to defeat any who'd he'd lost to in the past. His hand raised from his pocket to produce a bit of change in offering to the boy. He just hoped there wouldn't be any further attempts at conversation; the red-head avoiding looking directly at Damien after he'd extended the money. Once taken he'd turn and leave toward Cherrygrove. VICTORY!

With the battle over, the deerling looked back to Damien happily. "Good job Snowball." Damien then turned around to see his mareep. "You did pretty darn good too, Storm." Damien was proud of his Pokemon, but it wouldn't block out the upset he felt about the conversation him and the trainer shared. "I hope to battle you again when we are both stronger, as well." Damien said. He wouldn't say anything as the red-haired trainer handed him the money and headed his way back to Cherrygrove.
Instead, Damien had a different plan. He looked at his team, with all still out of their Pokeballs currently. "He's right." Damien said. "We should go try to win some badges. To Violet City we go!" Damien was certain they could overcome any challenges as they headed to face Falkner and his flying type Pokemon to achieve the Zephyr Badge.
