About twenty minutes of walking later did something extraordinary happen. If Arkayne knew anything about Cherrygrove's preservation rules, he would know how lucky he was being, because a little into the grass left of the path a blue bubbly creature was having a stroll. The Quagsire was humming to itself and basically minding its own business, but it did look like it was carrying something. The question was: how curious was Arkayne? Wild Encounter Weather: ClearWarning! A wild Quagsire is wandering about. What will Arkayne do?shiny? q61TUj0Q1-421-42

Catching sight of the Quagsire Bishop paused for a moment and checked his pokedex.
"Water Fish pokemon?" he mused to himself. "What an odd species."
They were strange pokemon to be sure but over all didn't seem to be a threat. This one in particular seemed rather happy and care free. The young man found himself smiling as curiosity got the better of him. He had no designs on catching the odd creature but was kind of interested in how it would react and what it might be carrying.
"Hello friend!" he said, stopping a stone throws distance away and waving. Bishop was cautious in case it took offense. He could still release one of his friends to fight it should Quagsire turn violent but he doubted it would come to that.
Whatever the case he would see how it would react and then act accordingly. A trainers life wasn't just about capturing and fighting. Bishop fancied himself as something of a ranger in training and as such had an interest in the life and well being of wild pokemon as well.

"Quaaaag," the quagsire greeted cheerfully as Bishop talked to it and then without any warning showed a couple of things from its stack into Bishop's arms with a third falling to the ground. It then trotted off like Bishop hadn't even been there. "Hey! Those are mine!" A childish voice shouted and a kid around 12 came running with his arms full of items. He had a big hat on a net that marked him as a bug type enthusiast. He dropped a few of the items and stopped to collect them before he raced over to Bishop. "I'm Wade, just put them here. I have been following it all day but it wont give me all it has and I saw it first!" The child explained and clearly expected Bishop to hand over the stuff he had just been gifted. A pokeball dropped from the pile and a metapod jumped out to stand motionless on the grass. "Come on! Big and I can battle you for them if you want, but you're adult so you can buy all the stuff you want, so you should really just give them to me," Wade argued with a cheeky grin. Bug Catcher Wade claims it is his things and demands you hand them over. He sends out Big [lvl 7]

Bishop caught the things Quagsire thrust into his arms with an expression of confusion. This quickly turned to amusement as the odd pokemon then began to wander off. What a strange creature it was but very friendly.
"Thank you Quagsire," he called out, waving to the creature as it retreated. He didn't have long to ponder that though as he gathered up the dropped item and took stock of what he had been given. A voice distracted him just then and Bishop turned to regard the younger boy. He couldn't help but chuckle at the demand. The boy had some nerve to make such a demand and the older trainer rather appreciated his spirit.
"Hmmm? Well maybe you weren't as polite to him as I was." he said, giving the boy a cheeky grin of his own. "But I like your style kid. I will fight you and will even make it as even a battle as I can. If you win I'll give you one of the things Quagsire gave me....your choice which one."
Bishop appreciated out going trainers willing to take chances. Most adults would have just sent the boy packing but why not oblige him with a battle? He could understand the boy wanting his little friend to earn some experience and he too had a pokemon that needed a chance to shine.
"Come on out Clyde!" he said, releasing his Mudbray to meet the challenge. "Use Close Combat!"
It wasn't a perfectly even match. As he saw it Clyde had a clear advantage but not so much of one as his stronger pokemon did. It certainly wouldn't have been sporting to send out one of his prized fire types. That would just be a slaughter.

Once he was in range he stood on his hind legs and delivered a hoof right into the bug types face before slowly walking over towards Bishop. Wade knew that he had to boost Metapod's defense first before he could risk attacking and did exactly that. " Metapod use Harden so they cannot push you around so much. I want to win so I can get everything that Quagsire was giving out." He ordered as the bug started to build up the protective layer of skin surrounding it's body. It did not cause any damage to Clyde but the equine Pokemon would not be able to do as much damage the next time it tried to attack with a physical move.

This was going to be a battle in slow motion it would seem. Bishop had known Clyde didn't have great attacks to use against the bug type. The Close Combat attack did good damage but could only be used so many times and also left his poor Mudbray open to counter attack. But Clyde had been the only one that would be close to an even match for the younger trainer. He wanted to be sporting after all and Clyde did deserve the chance to shine.
"Close Combat again Clyde. You can do it!"
Of course Clyde could do it. He was a fierce little thing but just hadn't had any chance to show his stuff. Why with a bit more training and a few more moves in his arsenal he could be a force to be reckoned with. It was just getting over that initial hump and picking up a few levels that was the problem.
"Watch yourself. The bug is waiting till you give him an opening to attack!"
That was the problem with this move combination. The Metapod would get harder to hit and Clyde would become easier to hit over time if he kept using that move. Bishop just had to have faith that his pokemon, having struck first, could wear down his opponent before being knocked out himself.

Keep up the good work!" Wade called out encouragingly to his mostly immobile cocoon as Clyde trotted forward again. Clyde was fastest as he stood right beside the metapod and didn't need to do anything else than giving the cocoon a kick to obey his orders, and the sent the metapod rolling over the grass. Not far but a bit. The cocoon didn't do anything other than perhaps tense up even more and frantically Clyde would find it quite hard to keep his alert up, how dangerous could this bug really be? It just laid there and other than it might feel a bit harder every time he kick it, it was far from painful as long as he just used his hooves. Wade dropped a couple of round items and as he bend down to try pick them up he dropped a few more. He mumbled irritated as he began to try collect them and carry them all, did he really need anymore items even if they were free? "I still think you should give them all to me, you don't need them," Wade said casually and glanced at Bishop to see his reactions. "What did you get by the way?" He asked greedily.

Bishop couldn't help but laugh a bit at the boy's words. Not in a mean way but he had to admit the kid had a lot of gall. And greedy....my but he seemed to be a greedy little soul. Amusement was starting to give way to irritation though, if only a little bit. This little fellow was setting his poor Metapod up for a beating just to gain a few more trinkets? When he was already carrying more than he could manage. That just seemed a little gross to the older trainer.
"How would you know what I need?" he asked in a reasonable tone. "Besides, you can't carry what you have now. So you want to fight for more stuff and you don't even know what it is?"
He turned to regard Clyde and the Metapod again. The quicker he could finish this the better. Clyde could earn some experience and maybe the younger trainer could learn a lesson.
"Clyde, Close Combat again. Lets finish this up."
Of course it wouldn't be finished. Not for awhile yet. Metapod could make this last for a long time with it's Harden move. Bishop just didn't think the bug would have the moves to do Clyde much harm. By this point he was sorely tempted to just pick up the Metapod and toss it off into the bushes somewhere. But that wouldn't be sporting.

I can only get what the quagsire gives me and this is the only time I have met it," Wade argued and clearly saw himself as in the right, "this my only chance!"He looked behind Bishop worried where the quagsire had now disappeared out of sight. "And now I might have lost it," Wade said with a frown. Clyde trotted forward once again when he got his orders and gave the metapod a couple of kicks, this almost didn't feel like a battle. He just kicked something that lay still and didn't retaliate. Wade groaned frustrated. "We don't have time for this! Metapod use Tackle, we will end this!" The boy shouted even though everyone was close enough to hear him clearly when he spoke normaly. Metapod came alive, as much as a metapod could at least. It turned back upright and made strange wiggle that sent it flying a short distance, and straight into the unprepared mudbray.

"Kid, you have issues."
While Bishop was flattered to be called an adult, and by definition he nearly was he supposed, it was a bit irking that this boy thought he could just go buy whatever he wanted whenever the mood struck him. If Wade had been less of a brat then maybe Quagsire would have given him something before. But the odds of making the bug catcher understand that seemed slim at best.
"Then you should have spent more energy on being nice to Quagsire," he said in a reasonable tone. "Not trying to take what you weren't given. No matter though. I took your challenge and we will see it through."
Bishop could rather clearly see where it would end up. He would need to use Close Combat one more time due to Clyde's lack of moves. That would leave his poor Mudbray vulnerable to another Tackle but even with the loss to his defense that his attack generated it wasn't likely to hurt him anywhere near as much as Metapod had been. Then at that point a couple of well placed ground attacks ought to finish this. It wouldn't be quick but the chances of Wade winning were very slim. Stranger things had happened though and if the kid managed to pull it off Bishop would honor his wager
"Alright Clyde, lets pick up the pace. Close Combat then Mud-Slap. Show this Metapod who is boss!"

Used Tackle x2! Bishop's Clyde [Stamina]: -1 DEF, -4 SP.DEF... Used Close Combat & Critical Mud Slap! (Running Shoes Exhausted) The first comment didn't make the matter any better. The young bug catcher gasped, half turning his body away from his opponent in a show of how aghast he was. A little over dramatic perhaps, but the show was very short as more of the items filling his arms slipped away from his grip and tumbled to the ground. Wade glared at Bishop as if it was his fault before crouching down to carefully collect and re-balance his growing horde. "We'll show him, right Metapod?" he almost cried out with determination. The cocoon pokémon didn't appear to respond but the young lad replied affirmatively as if the green bug had agreed. "What do you mean? If I wasn't nice then why would he give me all this stuff in the first place!" The boy jumped back to a standing position and wiggled his arm stash. From under the straw weaved hat the bug catcher's face was both angry and confused, seemingly now even more determined to beat this weirdo he'd bumped into. "Every second I spend here is a second Quagsire gets away. Come on Metapod, you gotta beat that weird horse quick buddy. Its kicks look scary but its no match for you."At least on one thing they were of like mind: getting this battle done with quickly. Clyde trod forward and unleashed another flurry of hoof blows against the stalwart bug, though this time amidst the fancy footwork Metapod managed to swing around and smack into one of the mudbray's legs rather harshly. Backing off, Clyde saw the cocoon edging forward. Spinning around a quick thrust of his back legs brought a wave of mud crashing down over Metapod. But still the bug persisted. With a surprising lunge forward the pointed shell jabbed into Clyde's side as the equine turned to see the effectiveness of his last attack.

He had underestimated how high the bugs defense was now with all the Harden moves. Bishop frowned a bit seeing that their opponent was still standing....or upright anyway. Could it be called standing since a Metapod didn't have legs? No matter, this was almost over one way or the other. He just hoped that his miscalculation didn't cost them the battle. He didn't have any problem as a matter of principle in sharing one of the items Quagsire had given them with the bug catcher. What he didn't want was for Clyde to lose and maybe not trust him as much going forward.
"Alright Clyde, Close Combat and then if its still up Mud Slap!"
Bishop had to count on Clyde being a little faster than the slow moving bug. If they could hit hard enough and fast enough this should be over. The only problem was that if Metapod didn't go down then poor Clyde was very vulnerable because the Close Combat move dropped his own defense in order to hit harder. Bishop really hoped his Mudbray could do this. If he leveled up he could learn some new moves and not be so dependent on just the one all or nothing attack.
"Come on Clyde. You can do this!"

Wade called rather rudely to Bishop, "You can't just ignore me!"He looked rather upset by it, perhaps he had often been ignored by adults who didn't listen to what a little kid had to say? "What do you mean?" He repeared loud and clear, he thought he had been really nice to the dull blue pokemon, so Bishop's comment made no sense to him. "Come on Metapod! Hurry up and use Tackle!" Wade called out and didn't notice that one of his many items slipped and fell to his feet. It was hard to see if the cocoon hurried as it barely moved at all, and the round became a rather dull one as well. Clyde was quickly by the side of the metapod and gave it some good kicks that sent it rolling over the grass. When Metapod got upright again Clyde had trotted out of reach a long time ago. Wade mumbled something under his breath but didn't look disheartened, perhaps he was blind to how beat up Metapod had begun to look. "That was unlucky, but you'll get it next time for sure!" Wade encourage his pokemon. (ooc: You have already used the running shoes, so you cannot use them more in this battle ^^)

Bishop blinked in surprise at Wade's comment. While he found the boy to be rather exasperating he couldn't deny that the younger trainer was right. He had been rude. That realization softened his stance a bit and made Bishop think a bit more about what he was doing here.
"Maybe your right," he said a bit defensively. "But maybe you were being too pushy with Quagsire. He is allowed to give stuff to other people too."
The boy was rather pushy to be sure but he was also young. Bishop couldn't remember acting like that when he had been the same age but everyone could be annoying at some point. He couldn't just snub the kid because he was a pain. What he could do though was put an end to this fight.
"Clyde, use Mud Slap again. That should put an end to this."
He didn't take any pleasure in beating the Metapod. Poor thing needed a party around it to help with the fighting so it could grow in levels and evolve. Then it could really shine.
(Ooc: If we win this round I would like to use my multiplier to give Clyde a bit of a level boost. Thank you!)

"But it keeps giving me stuff, that means it thinks I'm nice, right?" Wade argued against being too pushy although he did sound a bit uncertain. "But I need the things more than others, I don't get money from my parents and I need it to help my pokemon evolve," he whined while looked desperate. "Do you know how long it took me to train them to evolve this far? And how many time we have failed because others had potions or something that could keep them going on forever?" Wade asked devastated, being a trainer of metapod and kakunas was hard when you didn't have anything else to help you. Wade was too distracted to pay any attention to the battle before it was too late, not that it would have done any difference in the end. "See?" Wade said as he gestured to his fainted metapod, "I don't have any potions or revives yet but I might be lucky and get one from the quagsire."Wade put his stuff down on the ground and found a pokeball to recall Metapod. He looked upset but there was also a determination over his movements, this was not the first time he had experienced this and it probably wouldn't be the last either. He let out a Kakuna a moment later and looked grimly at Bishop. He was not going to give up as this was the only way he could hope his pokemon would evolve, but honestly he didn't believe he would come out on top of this one. And the quagsire was probably long gone by now. Clyde wins the battle and gains +3 lvl, and +1 from the multiplier making him lvl 11! He learns Rototiller and can learn Bulldoze if he forgets another move. He also gets +1 happiness Wade hasn't fully given up yet and sends out Kakuna [lvl 7] Do Bishop want to switch pokemon?
