Name: Leilani "Lei" Keoloha
Age: 31
Gender: Female
Trainer Type: Battle focused and collector
Hometown: Hau'oli City in Alola
Appearance:
Lei is a tall and thin woman in her prime and she knows it. She exudes confidence and often has a mischievous look in her brown eyes, at least as long as she enjoys the situation.
With her 172cm in height she is taller than most other women but it hasn’t been a problem for her as she prefers to be seen and often uses her height to get attention.
As a native Alolan citizen she is dark skinned and has frizzy black hair which reaches below her shoulders. She likes to wear it in fancy styles but keeps it in a simple ponytail whenever she needs to do something practical.
She always wears a bit of discreet makeup to finish her look.
Lei has plenty of clothes and it all highlights her feminine body, or else she wouldn’t have bought it in the first place. She doesn’t wear anything that isn’t branded and expensive, though she has left most of her clothes at home as she doesn’t want to carry it and expects to be able to buy more if she needs it. Besides, she doesn’t expect that she is going to need her fine dining dresses or smart clothes to wear on the beach.
Most of the time while in Johto she wears comfortable riding clothes as she expects to be a lot out in the wild, they are a smart sporty style, and mostly black. Along with that she has a pair of a good hiking boots made by premium leather.
She also has some more relaxed clothes for when she spends time in the cities and she take some time off to relax. They are in the clear colors that Lei thinks fits her well, especially turquoise, red and green.
Personality:
Lei has grown up having too much money and not enough demands to have learned that life can be serious and understand that others may not have had such an easy life as herself. That also mean she became a bit bored with it, not really having being challenged other than if she wanted to better herself at something.
She follows her urges most of the time and spends her day like she wants with little thought of how it may affect others.
She is proud and selfish as she is used to get things her way, and has always been treated with utmost respect wherever she went. She will speak her mind and fight for what she thinks is her right, which probably is a bit more than what other will think is fair. Due to her upbringing she thinks of herself as better than most people. She will still treat others well enough as the only thing her parents has been really strict about is her manners.
This is also the reason she thinks of pokemon as mere tools and not friends. She is used to buy the best of them and are proud of the ones who lives up to her expectations, as they add to her own success. She is harsh in her training and show little empathy with them.
Lei is confident in her own capabilities, which comes both from have being told that she can do whatever she puts her mind to, and her own experiences of success.
The confidence has also made Lei brave and more than willing to take risks, she has rarely been in any serious trouble, and if she encounters a challenge she is determined to succeed and is not one to give up.
Although she is spoiled she isn’t stupid, she has learned a thing or two and knows how to use it for her own advantage.
Lei has no reason to be bitter, other than from the last argument she had with her parents, as life has been kind to her and she is quick to laugh.
She likes to go hiking, explore new areas and live away from civilization as long as she can return whenever she wants. She enjoys battling with pokemon and with her family’s strong ones she is often the winner.
One of her favorite things to do is racing, as her aunt has a stud farm where pokemon like rapidash and zebstrika are bred for racing, and mudsdale and gogoats for terrain racing.
Lei has been a jockey for a few times but has never done anything serious about it, like with a lot of other things in life she found serious training boring and went to find something else to do.
It did convinced her though that she needs a Stablename for when she is going to sell top quality pokemon, so others know they come from her and that they therefore are the best of the best. Just like her Aunt.
History:
Leilani is the youngest daughter in the Keoloha family which consists of her father Peni and mother Haukea and the older sister Nalani.
Her parents own a few hotels and has enough money for their life to be pleasant with a big house with a good ocean view and a small staff to do all the chores, which meant Lei didn’t have much she needed to do. Beside school and a strict teaching when it came to manners, she was more or left free to do what she wanted.
She found school easy as she had all the helped she needed and it was challenging enough for her to find it interesting, but she preferred to explore the garden or play at the beach.
Her parents were busy but proud of their children and of what they had gained in life, they were caring and kind and had few demands beside their manners.
Leilani and Nalani had a good relationship, they of course argued and teased each other while they were little, and had a bit of a rivalry while they were teens, but grew from it as they became adults.
When she reached the age of 11, she got a chance to participate in the Island Challenge which she completed with the help of her parents stronger and more trained pokemon, and her own quick thinking. A few she failed the first try or two and had to retake, but that didn’t discourage her and she returned proudly home when she had succeeded. Haukea threw her a party and Lailani smugly noted that she had been quicker than Nalani had when she had taken the challenge. Lei hadn’t even used the rowlet she had been given by the islands’ professor.
Leilani’s teenage years went with school and enjoyed time with her friends which quickly became relaxing at the beach and talking about boys and their own look. She also found out she liked to play tennis, which she did with her best friend Wikolia, while Lei’s other friends weren’t interested in exercising too much.
Lei and Wikolia both enjoyed battling with pokemon and often practices their skills to stay sharp, and challenged trainers who came to the hotel. Leilani lost just as many battles as she won, although she always put up a good fight and had plenty of well trained pokemon in her arsenal.
She also bought more special pokemon which she didn’t use since they were more to show off, than to battle with. It was easier to use pokemon who was trained than having to do all the hard work yourself.
As her aunt had a stable where she bred racing pokemon, Lei often visited and learned to be a jokey. She loved the speed and also tried ride in a few of the less important races, but nothing seriously. She got a mudbray as thanks for it, of a fine pedigree although not good enough to train for the races. Lei found it useful as mount for long trips around the islands.
As she grew up she became more alone. Her friends had less time to spend with her as they got jobs and family and other duties they had to take care of. Leilani still hadn’t much she needed to do as Nalani, who was a couple years older, were the one who worked hard to be able to continue the family business when time came, and Lei was able to continue to live off of her parents.
Lei weren’t bitter although she begun to find life a bit boring and began slacking off since she wanted to at least enjoy her days and treat herself now it was her only joy in life.
Both Haukea and Peni found jobs for Leilani with different kind of responsibility, but Lei found it all boring after a while, no matter what it was the same over and over, and she rather wanted to sunbath or go shopping. It was rare the jobs didn’t get done, but Lei found someone else to do it, assistances and similar, so she in reality had to do little to nothing.
It made her parents frustrated and they tried to motivate Leilani to take a proper job and take charge of her life like the adult she was, but she saw no reason for it as she like the life she had and it wasn’t like they were lacking money.
They also tried to let it have consequences but by then Leilani was already in her twenties and it was way too late to educate her by then, and it all only ended in big arguments. Nalani always did what she could to mend the wounds and solve the problems but Leilani was stubborn and refused to spent her life doing boring stuff, when there were so much else she could be doing.
None of the arguments were as big as the one Leilani had with her parents a month after her 31th birthday, where Peni put his foot down and directly told Lei that she would have to grow up and take care of her own life, as she couldn’t continue to freeload. That was not what they had taught her.
Lei couldn’t see how it was a problem as she entertained some of the guests and helped out when it was needed if some of the staff was sick. She got really angry when she got the ultimatum of changing her way of life or getting cut off, since she saw that as unnecessary and way too harsh. She also took it personal and as she heard it like they accused her of not being able to take care of herself.
After a lot of shouting Leilani decided to leave the house and show them all that she could take responsibility and find a job that was worth taking instead of all the boring ones her parents had got her.
Leilani got a contact with a certain Professor Elm who needed help with some research with the pokedex and she quickly planned her trip to Johto. It would be interesting to visit a new region.
Much to her annoyance she wasn’t allowed to lent some of her parents pokemon, like she otherwise did, which would have made the job a much easier task. When she was also denied to take some of her shiny and other special pokemon with her, as her parents were afraid she wouldn’t be able to protect them from thieves, she got furious.
Leilani had to do with what she had left, which wasn’t little, when she said her goodbyes to her friends and family and left the Alola region.
Goals:
-Make a name for herself to prove her parents/family wrong, and let her stablename be known as a quality mark.
-Collect all pokemon/information for the professor.
-Experience something interesting she can share with her friends at home.
