Faith read lots of book in the Pokemon Lab growing up. It was the closest thing she could get to real life Pokemon. Some books even had pictures of Pokemon, but most of the books were dry and written like a scientific report rather than something fun and exciting. That's where much of Faith's confidence stemmed from: she may not have interacted with Pokemon growing up as other children did, but she had read all about them. She had seen type charts, descriptions of moves, evolution charts, and dry, factual reports about methods of making Pokemon stronger. She'd read all about behaviors, what Pokemon liked to eat, their natural habitats, and that some Pokemon didn't evolve just by growing stronger. Faith was confident, because she had read and remembered so much. She would know what a Pokemon's weakness was and she would know how to use that in battle without trial and error. However, knowing things still hadn't prepared her for Ralts.
Psychic Pokemon were different than most others (ghost types were also different). They could communicate in ways that people couldn't and some Psychic types were likely better at it than others. Knowing it was different from experiencing it, though. At first, she hadn't realized what had happened. The question, spoken in Pokemon tongue, had made her believe at first that the Pokemon had vocalized the question. Rather, perhaps that's simply what she had wanted to believe. The rush of emotion following, well she almost wanted to wave that off, maybe even tell herself to believe it was her own emotions rather than a Pokemon's. It almost felt like...an intrusion. Faith wasn't used to sharing her head with others, after all. The brain was private, it's where people could hide behind any face if they so chose. This Pokemon had intruded upon that, and Faith was caught entirely by surprise. In fact, she had been so caught off guard that she hadn't even seen the next moves. Later on, she would scold herself for having been caught so off guard. In a Pokemon battle, she needed to keep her wits about her as the Trainer. As the leader.
Faith blinked her eyes several times, before turning her gaze to the Ralts. It took some time for it all to finally sink in. The emotions, rather than the language, had spoke for itself. At least once she knew it was not her own emotions, but that of the Psychic type. The Pokemon didn't understand humans, that much was obvious. It didn't like the intrusion on their home, which is something that Faith could only slightly understand. After all, she had nowhere she felt comfortable enough in to protect. Nowhere that she could call home, not in the way others could. She had one, of course, if she were willing to go back and be an obedient daughter who would never become a Pokemon Trainer. Her mother would welcome her back with open arms, Faith was sure. However, Faith wouldn't protect it with her life. She didn't love her home, and instead felt trapped inside it. That's why she couldn't bring herself to understand d exactly how the Pokemon felt.
"I-I'm sorry..." she stammered slowly, almost surprised she was apologizing. She blinked slowly, but her eyes were on the Psychic type. Why was she saying this out loud? Why was she answering? Did she actually feel sorry? "I promised. He helped me, so I will help him."
The words felt odd on her lips. Her brain felt slow, almost as if it were drenched in something sticky like honey or molasses. It took some time before she could remember her Pokemon were fighting and needed her. She pursed her lips, and tried to focus on the ones that needed her to be there for them. Her Pokemon looked fine, and she hoped that was true. She hoped that she was seeing things correctly.
"Sentret...use Scratch...." her words sounded so far away to her. The Pokemon wasn't using its abilities on her, so far as she knew, but she was still so far out of it. Felt so odd. "Charmander....Ember..."
Faith needed to keep herself together.

Ralts continued to be distracted. Even more so now that Faith admitted she was working for someone. A worried confusion took over its thoughts as it tried to discern if perhaps this 'him' she mentioned was the reason it had an uneasy feeling toward the ruin. Was she not alone? It was hard to collect all of its thoughts as the paralytic spores kept bothering the psychic's physical self. The muscle spasms were jarring to say the least but as long as it remained still the stress was minimized in that respect. The sandstorm was also a bother. All the battle participants were in the same boat so to speak. The harsh winds pricking them all with the sand and dust whipping through the area as well as a shared condition of paralysis. All except the mareep. The static sheep bowed its head and set its attention on the scout pokémon that had continued to scratch away at it. Squinting through the haze of dirt the wild pokémon charged forth, catching Sentret just as the normal type got an unfortunate clump of bush thrown in his face. The sudden assault by shrubbery gave rise to a second of dazed panic. He rid himself of it promptly, but the momentary disturbance gave the mareep the perfect opportunity to catch the furry pokémon in a sweet spot. He clung to consciousness as white began overtaking his peripheral vision, claws doing similarly with the mareep's wool. Instinctively attaching himself to the wild pokémon allowed him to deliver his attack with ease. Mareep reeled and bucked, knocking Sentret from its person but leaving it in much the same shape. It could barely stand. It stared after Sentret, noting the scout pokémon's motionless clump, and made a decision. The sheep turned itself to Ralts and bleated wearily; pleadingly. It was done. It couldn't continue and it didn't want to fall here to be taken by the trainer. It could return after they were gone and reclaim the nest and wanted Ralts to come with it. The psychic type felt differently. The two looked to Charmander. Observing the fire lizard's momentarily spike in paralysis the mareep turned and left its friend to battle alone. Ralts covered for its friends departure with a fearsome growl. Further back, barely a colored shape through the plumes of various debris swirling around, Tom and his sandshrew could be seen making their way back out of the site. They continued to keep their distance. Faith was learning lots of things now that she was a Pokemon Trainer and in control of her own life. One of the things that keep popping up was the fact that things did not turn out the way she planned them. Faith watched in stunned amazement when her Sentret attacked the Mareep, saw them fight. Saw them barely manage to hold on, saw her Sentret hold on for all it was worth. She curled her hands into fists, and knew that she could do no more than watch. Her chance to do something had left the moment she'd given the command to attack. Faith could merely watch as her Sentret was taken down by the Mareep, but what stunned her was the fact that he would not stop fighting even as he'd so clearly lost. He held onto the electric sheep's pokemon with all of his might, even as he wavered into unconsciousness.
"I'm so sorry, Sentret!" Faith called out, as she pulled out his pokeball. "You've done so well, you need to rest some."
If she were to be honest, she felt touched by the Sentret's efforts. Despite his naughty personality, he was a fighter and it was now obvious that he wasn't the kind to run away when things got difficult. In so many ways, the Sentret was like she was: they wouldn't give up no matter what life threw at them. Despite being unhappy that he was captured against his will, he still found a reason to keep going. It was similar to how Faith had been raised: she was isolated from the world, but she kept dreaming and never gave up on living. Eventually, she was free, but Faith knew it was only because she kept dreaming in the first place. If she had given in, she would have never been free. She would never have been happy, and she would have merely been a prisoner for her whole life. They were alike, even if they were different.
Her eyes stung, but she held back the tears. She wouldn't be weak. Instead, she recalled the Sentret and felt a wave of relief when it was returned to her pokeball. They could work on their imperfect relationship, Faith decided. A fighter like him was worth keeping around, even if she had to keep a watch on him. She knew that after this fight, she would have to make it up to him. No Pokemon could be pleased with being pushed to the point of fainting. Gently, as if she were holding the Pokemon without the Pokeball, she held the pokeball and put it very carefully into her pocket. She wouldn't let anything happen to her Pokemon again. Faith needed to be careful for her new friends. She watched as the electric sheep left the Ralts behind, and felt a jolt of sympathy for the Psychic Pokemon. Being left alone couldn't be a good feeling, Faith knew. Still, she was somewhat thankful. It would make capturing this Pokemon easier.
Faith reached into her pocket, and took out Scatterbug's pokeball. While she wouldn't attack the Psychic Pokemon two to one, she felt more comfortable having the Scatterbug out. Just in case that sheep Pokemon came back for more.
"Go Scatterbug, but stay back for now," Faith said.
The Scatterbug was confused about being summoned, but obeyed Faith's command. For the moment, she had no idea what happened to her fellow Pokemon and didn't understand the danger she may be in. The worm crawled close to Faith and observed the fight, making sure it wasn't too close to the flame tailed lizard. She hated fire, and couldn't stand being anywhere near that fire Pokemon.
"Charmander, use Ember!" Faith said, keeping her eyes on the fire lizard.
Faith had to be careful. She wanted to capture this Ralts, but she didn't want to mess up again. She couldn't allow another one of her Pokemon to faint, because she was the one that was responsible for them. How could she allow herself to be so careless? If she hadn't been so shocked by the other Pokemon, maybe she would have recalled the Sentret. Maybe she would have known it was too much for him to handle, but now it was too late. Even now, she didn't know if there was anything different she would have done. After all, the Sentret had still looked strong. It hadn't looked all that injured or weak. In fact, it had looked so determined.
Still, Faith couldn't help but to blame herself. She was their leader, their Pokemon Trainer, and it was her job to ensure her Pokemon's safety.
((Sent out Scatterbug, but she doesn't attack, just taking up the free spot. Charmander uses Ember.))

The digging excavation went well for Tom and his yellow armadillo, who stood patiently at his side as they watched Faith and her team of Pokemon battle the two wild Pokemon fearlessly. He could easily see why she was the perfect person to ask for assistance from, and he delighted in watching her triumph over the Mareep easily. It caused the young trainer her furry brown tanuki, who she easily recalled and placed back up. “We made a good choice in trusting her, ole’ chap.” Tom spoke in a low voice to his companion. Meanwhile, Ralts moved about in a childish tantrum. It stomped its feet into the dirt and sand of the earth, pouncing about angrily. The paralysis seeped deep underneath the Pokemon’s skin, burning through its veins as it tried to shake off the effects. The fluffy blue sheep with startingly white wool was no longer at its side – the Ralts’ one true companion had been taken out by the furry brown Sentret almost as swiftly as the tackling bundle of wool and fur managed to wipe out the Sentret. The young girl released another Pokemon – the familiar black speck of a larvae that had once graced the battlefield previously – and the small white child-like Pokemon with green bob-like hair and a small heart-shaped horn narrowed its focus on the Scatterbug for only a second. Distracted by the new arrival, the Charmander seized its opportunity. Faith’s Charmander would undoubtedly feel the effects of paralysis as well, and the staggering and slowed pace of the bright orange Pokemon with it’s equally bright red-and-yellow flame at the tip of its tail spoke to their truth. It sluggishly moved forward, shaking itself at intervals to try to shake off the feels of the paralysis. With a heavy exhale of hot flaming breath, the flame-tailed lizard would shoot out a powerful puff of flames that consumed its opponent. The Ralts staggered back and shrieked. It’s loud wailing would fill the void around the spinning cyclones of sand and debris. It couldn’t go out like this! Ralts would raise its small white arms up and shake them in a trance in front of the Charmander. An eerie glow illuminated the Ralts’ outline as it used its psychic powers to overtake and control Charmander. As the psychic Pokemon waved its arms about in the air, Charmander would lift and levitate above the ground. With strong jerking motions, the Ralts would toss the Charmander back into the ground repetitively, lifting it up into the air and throwing it back down on the ground. The strong winds of the dust storm would do their final damages, cutting against the Pokemon’s skins on the battlefield. Faith winced when the Ralts shrieked in pain. Sometimes, she realized, being a Pokemon Trainer was much harder than she figured. For a moment, she wondered what made Pokemon keep going when they always ended up hurt. After all, Pokemon fought in the wild. It wasn't just a force of hand by human trainers, or that's what she had read in the lab books growing up. Of course, there were some Pokemon that didn't really like to fight all that much, and her Scatterbug appeared to be one of those. Scatterbug only fought when told to, but Faith never noticed her eager to participate. In fact, as time went by, Faith was beginning to notice the Scatterbug often looked toward her when fighting.
Seeing and interacting with Pokemon were completely different from a book. Faith didn't really know what to think about it all. Did they like being a trainer's Pokemon? If they didn't like being captured in the beginning, would they come to like a trainer later on? After witnessing her Sentret;s will, she was beginning to think about things like this now. She hadn't really thought about it much before. After all, she hadn't intended to drag a Pokemon along who really didn't want to be there. She figured that once she had a better team, she'd just replace them later on. Now, however, she respected her Sentret's strength and even though he was far from being one of her dream Pokemon, the thought of handing him over to the Professor suddenly made her a little sad. If at all possible, she'd prefer to have him with her. Willingly.
Could it happen, though? Only time, Faith figured, could tell. She would have to wait some time with her Pokemon, and if later they still hated being captured...well, she would have to give him back his freedom. She wouldn't give him to the Professor. She'd have to release the Sentret later on if he didn't grow to like being captured, and then he would be strong enough to handle himself out in the wilderness without her protection and never be captured again. Faith shook her head, decision made. She would make the Sentret stronger, and then and only then would she think about this again. Right now wasn't the time to focus on such things. Instead, she had other things to think about.
Like capturing another Pokemon. Her gaze met the Ralts, and she considered. How close were that Ralts and Mareep? It had left the Ralts behind, after all. Were they friends? Would the Ralts resent her for capturing it? Faith nibbled her lip, and contemplated the situation. If the Ralts were too close to the Mareep, and had no interest for future growth or exploration, well she may have a very difficult time in the future. Of course, maybe she could come back here and capture that Mareep once she finished helping the hiker too. There were choices, and she knew that she couldn't let this situation go. Ralts weren't exactly common, and she had always dreamed of having the evolution on her team. She just hoped things worked out better than the Sentret situation.
Faith reached into her pocket and found an empty pokeball. She pressed the button, enlarging it, then aimed it at the wild Ralts. Hopefully, she would manage to capture it and have it join her team.
((Attempt to capture Ralts. I didn't make a note in the last post for egg word count and don't know if you guys did. If not, 400 words for last post and 400 for this one.))

The pokeball flew through the sandstorm ignoring the grit drumming on it as it got closer and closer to its target. It was a good throw, from the look of it you would have thought that Faith hadn't done anything else than throwing balls and pokemon. The ralt's head snapped towards it, little avoiding its attention and then snapped it around to look at Faith. It tilted its head as it felt her, a little twitch of the head as the paralysis bothered it but otherwise the frustration seemed gone. Perhaps it had some quickly changing moods? Or was very sensible to the ones around it? Faith would feel a little tickle inside her head, which wasn't unpleasant but probably weird. Then the Ralts relaxed in its shoulders and sent Faith a little smile, and disappeared with a red flash. The pokeball wiggled on the ground, back and forth although all the sand made it hard to see. The ding confirming the capture was loud and clear though, and then silence fell. "Huh! That was exciting to watch! I completely forgot to breath!" Tom said cheerfully as he made it over to Faith, his face was hidden behind a scarf he had tied around his mouth and nose, and his hat was tucked down to protect his eyes from the flying sand. "That was quite a catch, I have heard ralts are pretty rare and that they only show themselves for human they like," he continued although Tom's knowledge on the psychic type was all build on stories and rumors. "But I'm glad you got something out of helping me too, see! This is really exciting what Sandan had dug up, and I'm sure there is more down there that can help us learn the story of the Region," Tom continued eagerly and showed Faith something that looked like a piece of clay, there was no interesting markings on it, although the flat shape looked a bit funny in one end. "This is a piece of some pottery! It perhaps doesn't look like much but it is proof there has been a settlement here and perhaps that is the town I have been searching for. Perhaps this will grasp the attention of others so we can make a proper excavation!"Tom was silent for a bit, taking care of packing the pottery piece into his bag. Then he stretched and looked curiously at Faith. "Ay, I'm sorry, here I have been blabbering about myself, what have gotten you out this early without breakfast and all?" He asked and would wait patiently for Faith's answer. Charmander got the finishing blow and grows 2 levels(1/2+2/2 -> 0,5+1=1,5), to [lvl 12]! Sentret did his best and learned something! The dust storm was really beginning to pick up. Faith could hardly believe that just this morning there had been flooding. It was too bad she was so ill prepared, because she wore only a short sleeve shirt, and couldn't use much to cover up her face. She coughed as dust attacked her and she couldn't stop blinking as the dust affected her vision and stung her eyes. She placed her backpack on the ground, and didn't look as the pokeball shook. It wasn't due to a lack of interest, rather of necessity. Faith needed to take this moment to find something to cover her face up, or she'd really begin to suffer. She was aware that her Pokemon must be going through a worse time.
Unfortunately, she didn't pack much more than clothing and a water bottle. She had never been in a position where she had to plan a trip, and her lack of experience was showing. Of course, no one could completely blame her for the weather. She dug through and found a shirt that she didn't mind ripping apart. It was older and barely fit Faith anyway. It was there, because well what else besides clothes was she supposed to pack anyway?! Well, she was beginning to learn there was much more that she needed to be prepared for. She ripped the shirt up carefully, then wrapped it around her face.
The ding! of the successful capture startled her, and she couldn't help but jump. Then, she managed to look over her shoulder and if one could see past all the dust they would notice a huge grin. Despite the hard fight, Faith hoped it was well worth it. She could tell her Pokemon must have gained much needed battle experience from the fight, and Faith gained a Pokemon she had only dreamed about in the past. "Thank you, Ralts." Faith whispered softly, even knowing nothing could hear her. She had felt the strange sensation before the Pokemon had entered the ball, and it had caused her a moment of confusion. Of course, by that time she was far too focused on the dust storm to really contemplate the situation much. Now that she had her face covered, she suspected it had something to do with the Ralts testing her. Maybe seeing if it was worth being Faith's Pokemon.
Had it chosen Faith? It would certainly make things easier if she was correct, but she didn't really know if she was or not. She could only hope. However, with the successful capture she could focus on something else. Faith grabbed the newly occupied Pokeball, then released the Ralts from the pokeball. She couldn't spare it much of a look yet, as she was still busy. Slowly, she released each and every one of her Pokemon since she knew what she had to do. She took the pieces of torn shirt, and began wrapping her Pokemon's faces, using it as a makeshift mask. Faith listened to the hiker speak while she did her work, and was glad to hear the tone of his voice: it meant that he succeeded.
As Faith was putting the cloth over her Charmander's face, the hiker eagerly showed off a piece of pottery. Faith wouldn't pretend that she understood it all. After all, she was never interested in joining his career. However, she didn't have to fake the easy smile. Even if she didn't understand it, she could tell he was very excited and she was glad that he had done well. She was glad to see him so happy, because it meant that she had done a very good job and that she had been helpful. It was a relief to know that she could help someone, especially after they had helped her so much earlier on. Without him, she and her Pokemon would still be hungry and she would never have gotten the Ralts.
"I'm glad you were successful," Faith said, still smiling as she completed her task of putting makeshift masks on her Pokemon. She stood up slowly, and dusted off her hands on her pants before she realized how useless that was and gave up on the idea. She glanced back over at the hiker. "I hope it is enough to gather more attention."
It was true. No matter how little she understood, she sincerely hoped things went well for him. She recalled her Pokemon, and couldn't help the light blush that crossed her cheeks at the hiker's question. It was shame more than anything that reddened her cheeks, but she breathed in and knew it was still something she had to face no matter what. "I'm still a new trainer, you see..." Faith said, her voice quiet. "I've never been out on my own and I wasn't prepared for the trip, I guess. I didn't have food or a means to get it." Faith was honest, and wouldn't hide from the truth. Especially after he had helped her out! "I still don't know what I'm doing, I guess, but we have to get stronger to get somewhere, right?" It was both a question and a statement.
"Why do you only have one Pokemon?" Faith asked. It wasn't meant to be a rude question, of course. She wasn't aware if it was. She couldn't help but be confused, because she had always imagined people always had a full team of Pokemon. Even if they weren't on a task for a Professor, well certainly it was nice to have more company and she just found it normal sounding to have the maximum six Pokemon. Even more for someone who hiked in ruins and faced dangerous Pokemon! While Faith may have chosen this route, some of her mother's teaching was still instilled in her, even if she wasn't really aware of it. The biggest thing was a decent fear of the stronger Pokemon, even if she also hoped to own them herself.

The explorer paid close attention to Faith as she replied. Ever so slight nods rocked his head as he listened to her explanation. A look of reminiscent familiarity reflected in his eyes as his cheeks wrinkled in what could be assumed a smile beneath the scarf he was using as his face cover. "That's right," he agreed. "There's a whole lot to learn on your first dive into the wilderness." He chuckled lightly, looking down to his sandshrew. Both's attention turned back to Faith when she presented her question. Sandan's initial reaction was a bit sheepish. The ground type shrinking down a little and putting to claws together. "Oh! Well m'dear, heh you see I'm not cut out for being a trainer. Never was any good at it. Couldn't keep two pokémon sorted if my life depended on it," the elderly man joked. "No... So I found something else and Sandan and I are partners. Two explorers." He paused, leaning slightly to give his scaly mouse a pat on the back, then adding, "Neither of us are very good fighters."Tom took a deep breath. The necessary accessory shielding from the dust storm beginning to get humid itself with all his heavy breathing from the excursion moments ago. "We should really get out of this storm." The comment came as he slipped one arm from his large pack so he could more easily dip a hand into the large front compartment. "And you deserve more than a good word for your hard work." The ruin maniac was quick to retrieve a couple items, a hint at how well organized the large sack must be inside. It looked to be a bottle of water and a large energy bar. "It isn't much, but they come in handy for adventuring." He offered them both to her insistently. Once his hand was clear of the items he pulled his bag closed and secured it on his back again. "We're going to head back to camp and huddle in our tent," he continued, "The storm could be a while, but our shelter is yours if you need it." Sandan was a little unsure of that. Their tent was only meant for two people and the little sandshrew liked to spread out... but it didn't protest too strongly. "But Cherrygrove isn't too far if you'd prefer somewhere more comfortable. It might be a bit tedious, but seeing the way you handled those two, and with your new friend there, I've no doubts this dust storm won't cause you much trouble. In fact, I bet you could do a lot helping other people. Could be a great way to get a good rounded experience and maybe earn some pocket change."And there it was. The two old explorers were ready to get going and start cataloging their findings back at their camp. Faith was welcome to tag along out of simple kindness, and they weren't going to leave without knowing where she was going to head off to. Should she decide to part ways here they'd send her off with well wishes and encouragement. Tom gave Faith a Fresh Water and Rage Candy Bar! Words updated Scatterbug evolved! Now Spewpa, she learned Protect and her ability changed to Shed Skin!

Faith hadn't been aware of the fact that she was nervous, at least not until she felt that rush of relief when the hiker didn't scold her for being so thoughtless. She had known only a small handful of people in her entire life, so she didn't want to disappoint this rare stranger that had helped her out. Faith figured he could have been unhappy, and displeased that he had helped her out. Not just because she was a new Pokemon Trainer, but because she obviously didn't have a handle at being a Pokemon Trainer. What trainer didn't know how to survive on their own? Worse, she had been in the city! It wasn't like she'd been left to starve in the wilderness or something, and she couldn't help but to blame herself. Surely, she felt, no one else had made her mistakes. While she could easily put blame on her parents, Faith still felt she should share some of that blame. After all, she'd had all that time alone to plan! How could she mess up so easily?
"It is a lot to learn," Faith agreed with a nod of her head.
Even though she did feel relieved, the guilt didn't just disappear. How could it, when she knew that she had still failed? At least she did feel a little bit better about it all, though. Instead of focusing on her own internal problems, Faith looked over at the hiker who was now busy answering her question. She listened intently, and the hiker would likely never realize that Faith was beginning to learn some things from him. Mainly, she learned that not everyone could handle more than one Pokemon. Perhaps as much should have been obvious. After all, there were people like her mother who were so afraid of Pokemon that she didn't want one, let alone to even be near one. If people like her mother existed, why couldn't people who just weren't cut out to be Pokemon Trainers exist too? Besides, the man had obviously found his calling - he had been so eager when telling her about the pottery thing he'd found. He was enjoying his life well enough, Faith discovered and she smiled at the thought.
"Well, I see," Faith nodded, still thinking on it. Her eyes turned to the sandshrew and grinned. "Well, I'm glad the two of you found something you like instead!"
Maybe the Sandshrew was happier having the hiker all to themself. It was something Faith could understand, and so she let the topic drop. They were well and happy, and the hiker's Pokemon enjoyed it enough. Her eyes widened when the hiker gave her things. What was all this? A blue Pokemon gave her some things, and now the hiker? Why was Faith just being given things? Besides, she had just been helping the hiker because he had helped her out! She was just repaying his kindness, and she could hardly see why he needed to give her anything at all. Her eyes stared at the items placed in her hands, and she found herself so stunned that she didn't put them away as soon as she was given them. She glanced back at the hiker, and confusion was likely written all over her face.
"You helped me first," she managed to get out.
It was almost too much when he offered her a place to stay in his tent. A tent, Faith decided, was a good item to get. She should have one, she realized now, if she was going to be traveling from city to city. Faith considered the offer. It was tempting - she was intrigued by the idea of making her first friend during her freedom, but she also didn't want to burden him. It was probably considered rude, and how often could she take his food and stuff? Besides, she wasn't learning by taking from someone else and she really needed to learn to stand on her own two feet. She was positive that she would merely strain the friendship that way and just be an annoyance. Besides, how would that be different than living with her mother? No, she had better learn to take care of both herself and her Pokemon.
"Thanks for the offer," Faith said, flashing him another genuine smile. "However, if I'm going to be a good Pokemon Trainer, I'd better start learning to take care of myself and my Pokemon."
It was still hard to refuse his offer, but she would. Inside, she knew it was better for all involved if she did that. With that, the two would eventually go on their own paths. Faith turned, her back against the dust storm and she made her way back to the city. For now, she needed to get her Pokemon to a Pokemon Center and get them taken care of. After all, she had realized it was a difficult battle for all of them, and even her newly caught Pokemon was hurt from the fight. She shuddered at the memory of the Ralts cries when it was burned by Charmander's ember. She couldn't help but to feel bad for the Ralts. She hadn't wanted to hurt it too much.
Without any issues arising, Faith had made it safely back to the Pokemon Center where she'd left her Pokemon to be taken care of. She left the Center and made her way to the Poke Mart. While her Pokemon were resting, Faith decided it was best to take care of the other tasks. She traded the pearl the blue Pokemon had given her, and was happy to see it was worth a decent amount of money. With that, she'd bought a tent and some Pokemon Food for her Pokemon that was easily transported. It was dried, and would last some time. It was perfect for being outside, Faith figured. She bought some oats and other products that she could try and make her own homemade food, both for her and her Pokemon.
Once she had everything that was needed, Faith headed back to the Pokemon Center and retrieved her Pokemon. The nurse commented on the fact that she was surprised - Faith's Scatterbug had evolved the moment it was out of her Pokeball! Faith's eyes widened, but she could only manage to nod along. Her Pokemon were getting stronger, and that made Faith proud. It meant she was doing at least okay as a Pokemon Trainer, even if she had failed to feed them on time. She left the Pokemon Center and headed back to route 30. She held a newly bought scarf up against her face and tried to find her way back to where she had met the Ralts. Hopefully she would find Ralt's friend the Mareep and keep the two together.

"We sure have!" Tom chuckled and once again patted Sandan on his head, "luckily there is a lot of other things to do than being a normal trainer, and a lot still includes working with pokemon!"Tom waved his hand dismissively as Faith seemed it was too much the thing he gave her, he liked her and wanted to help her out a little bit. She seemed like she had a lot to learn, as she said herself and he knew the world could be harsh and cruel. He looked disappointed a brief moment when Faith turned down his offer, he would have liked to have someone to chat with while he waited out the storm, but he could understand that she rather wanted to be out and train and learn. His eyes wrinkled from the smile hidden by his scarf. "Of course you will, and I'm certain you will do great. Don't let a few difficulties take the mood from you," he said warmly and offered her a handshake before he and Sandan returned to their tent to wait out the sandstorm. ~~~ The trip to Cherrygrove and back again was uneventful, the sandstorm was great and keeping people indoors and pokemon hidden and few trainers moved out in this if they could avoid it. The weather in this city was usually a lot more pleasant to be active in. Faith easily made her way back to the ruined house but there were no sign of the mareep there. Instead other pokemon had found some shelter in between the sturdy walls, that kept out the worst of the sand. Perhaps the mareep had given up all together on this place now the ralts wasn't with it anymore? Or perhaps it hadn't been able to keep it now it was on its own? The ruin was now full of a lot of red pokemon with green leaves sticking up from them, and they huddled closely together to sit out the storm, which kept them on the ground for now. Outside of the ruin a lone hoppip hesitated and then carefully made it towards the opening and the group inside, the moment it became visible from the others, the biggest of the hoppips rose and waved with its leafy wings. While it might didn't mean much to Faith, the signal was clear to the lone hoppip who quickly backed and made its way alone the wall to a corner that offered it a bit protection against the storm. It would be clear to Faith that it had a slight limp althought it didn't seem to hinder it much. The lone hoppip paused and turned slightly to look at Faith, now it had noticed her and it looked curious. It spotted her pokeballs and its eyes widening, clearly knowing what those meant, then glanced back towards the group behind it. It shrugged, it had nothing to lose and stepped towards the trainer. It had been thrown out from its old group in which it had lived for so long, but perhaps there was a possibility of a new life here? The hoppip looked experienced and confident, it had won many battles but now it wasn't as young as it had been it had lost its most important one. It hadn't lost any hope due to that, it knew enough to handle itself and grab the opportunities as they arrived. Hoppip [lvl 10] confidently challenges Faith. Faith tried her best to look for the Mareep, but no matter how much she searched the sheep Pokemon did not show up. It could be injured and unwilling to fight. After all, not much time had passed and it had been forced to give up during the fight earlier. Out in the wilderness there were no Poke Centers for injured Pokemon, and this made Faith determined to find the poor sheep Pokemon even if it was never the kind of Pokemon she'd intended to have on her team. Honestly, she was running into that more often than she'd ever realized. She was finding more Pokemon that fit the Professor's quest, rather than the sort of Pokemon she had dreamed about. Well, at least she had found that Ralts!
While searching for the electric sheep, she found other Pokemon. She brought out her Pokedex and scanned the nearest one so she could have the information recorded for the Professor. She glanced over the results, and frowned. Charmander would likely make this a very quick battle, if she were to choose to fight them. Faith decided these Pokemon, besides being in a group, should pose no threat to her. However, they may very well be the reason the sheep Pokemon was nowhere in sight. How could an injured Pokemon fight against all these Pokemon? Sure, it was grass against electric, and neither would have the advantage in a fight, but the numbers were far from promising if the sheep Pokemon had desired to challenge them. It would make more sense, Faith decided, for the electric type to keep away.
With that decided, Faith was about to leave the area and search somewhere else. Until one of those Pokemon had noticed her, and began to approach her. This caught Faith's interest and she eyed the Pokemon closely. As it walked it had an apparent limp, and unlike the others this Hoppip was completely alone. It was unusual, since the others were gathered closely, and Faith wondered if that limp had anything to do with it. It may have lost a fight against one of the other Hoppip recently, or maybe it had always been picked on by the other Hoppip. Faith couldn't know the exact situation the grass type was in, but she felt pity for it. However, this Pokemon didn't appear to need it.
Instead, it had decided to challenge Faith and she wondered if this was the Pokemon testing her. Maybe it wanted to see if she was a worthy trainer? She wondered if she just threw the pokeball, maybe the Pokemon would go willingly. She wasn't so sure, but knew her Pokemon could use some practice and she could always capture it at the end of the fight. She reached for her newly captured Ralts's Pokeball and released the Pokemon from the pokeball. Charmander would make this a quick fight, but she didn't want to cause too much damage against the grass type Pokemon. Besides, her new Pokemon could use the experience since it would be their first battle with her as the trainer, rather than opponent.
"Ralts, use Confusion!" Faith said, deciding it was the best way to begin.
((Thanks for adding to the egg, I'd forgotten again hahaha. 400 to egg this time! Also, Ralts uses Confusion.))

The small round pink Pokemon with two jagged leaves on the top of its head seemed pleased when Faith pulled out a Pokeball and summoned another Pokemon onto the field. Its leg was hurting it. This was evident in the way that the tiny pink Pokemon with beady yellow eyes and large pink cat-like ears favored the injured leg. It had tried unsuccessfully to defend itself from its old tribe of Hoppip, though in its loss the Hoppip had been cast away like yesterday’s news. How many times had to fought in the past – bravely – and defended the other Pokemon?! The winds howled fiercely as they spun around the open air, flinging bits of dirt and rubbish debris every which way. The pink cottonweed Pokemon hopped about, lifting itself up and spinning the leaves on its head almost like a propeller as if it were trying to lift itself up into the air. It was normally easy for the cottonweed to float on the open air, and sometimes strong gusts of wind could carry it off to faraway lands. Was it too late to catch the next strong breeze outta here and find a new bunch of Hoppip that might accept it as their own? No, focus. A small white bipedal psychic Pokemon with green hair and two red horns on its head shaped like the rounded top ends of a heart stood in from of the Hoppip. It bawled its super tiny little fists up triumphantly and cried, “Hop pip! Pip!” A happy and melodic tune that seemed overly joyful that the girl would delight the Pokemon in a sparring match. This was the Hoppip’s chance to prove itself among its old mates – maybe then they would reconsider? Without Hoppip, who was going to defend the other Hoppip when their natural enemies appeared again?! Who would stare up late into the night, risking their health to shake off the encroaching sleep they couldn’t afford to have, to ensure that no harm came to their companions?! Not the new leader Hoppip, that’s for sure! So, it would whip of a powerful glittery fairy wind that seemed to almost rival that of the sandstorm and fling the breeze at Ralts. The bright shiny winds spun around in a vicious cyclone and would wrap their strong gusts around the Ralts as if it were trying to yank the other Pokemon up into the air and carry it far, far away. It was powerful and damaging but would dissipate and melt into the raging sandstorm easily after doing its damage. The Ralts would glow in an eerie and strange color. She used her arms as she shot them out from her form to send her powerful psychic attack to envelop the cottonweed Pokemon. “Pip? Pip, hop?!The wild Hoppip bunch that remained off in the distance and hidden started to point their limbs at their old friend and laugh. They couldn’t believe that it was naïve enough to go pick a fight with such a strong looking trainer and her Pokemon! Hoppip squealed out in a loud voice as Ralts used her arms to cause the same glowing aura to envelop the wild Pokemon and lifted her up into the air, before flinging her back into the ground several times. The Hoppip stood up and teetered back and forth on the ground, dazed, and confused after the whole ordeal. The Hoppip would defeat them..if…hey! Stand still. Why was it seeing two of the Ralts? What? Ugh! It shook its head, trying to overcome the confusion it was currently facing. The decision to leave behind her friend the Mareep was a difficult one for the Ralts. The two Pokemon had a rough start when they first met. The Ralts had lost both parents to an Arbok when it was very young, and she had traveled on her own to Cherrygrove city. The noises of the busy city had attracted the young Pokemon, but it had made sure to keep out of sight of the large humans. That's where it had run into a tough Ekans. It had been older and far more experienced than the Ralts had been, and poison was one of her weaknesses. It was no surprise that the Ekans had injured the Ralts, and won the fight. In fact, the only thing that had saved the poor Ralts was a Meowth. The Ekans and Meowth had gotten into a fight, and it was all the Ralts could do to crawl away from the fight.
The Ralts had felt it was done for. Injured, weak, and inexperienced it had no one to turn to. Once outside the city, however, she had run into the Mareep. The sheep Pokemon had been left behind by its herd, so it was obviously lonely and felt weak. The Mareep saw an opportunity with the Ralts, so it helped her out and fed her some berries. Over time, the Ralts was nursed back to health and the two Pokemon had become quick friends. Over time, they had found the ruins and settled down there together. They fought battles together, and learned how to fight using each other's strengths. They were unbeatable, but the Ralts hadn't been happy. She had loved the sheep Pokemon, since it had been her first friend. However, the Ralts had always wanted to explore and find adventure. It had been injured and almost killed before, but that hadn't been enough to kill her interest in adventure. The almost daily battles to protect their home had helped the Ralts, but it hadn't been enough for her. Unfortunately, due to their bond and the way the two Pokemon had met the Ralts could never let the Mareep know.
The Ralts had felt like she had owed the Mareep for saving her life. That's why she had obeyed the Mareep and never went journeying. The Mareep had never wanted adventure: it had simply wanted to belong. It wanted safety, and comfort. It held joy in battling the Pokemon and people who would dare try to set foot (or paw!) on their home. That was the extent of the sheep Pokemon's thirst for adventure. It had never held the intention of leaving behind the old ruins, and so Ralts had kept quiet. After all, she loved her friend and owed the Sheep Pokemon her very life!
The end was bittersweet: the Ralts was overjoyed to find a human with a love for adventure, but it was extremely sad to leave behind her friend. How was the Mareep doing? Would the Ralts ever see her again? Even if she did, what could be done? The Ralts was Faith's now, and she knew the Sheep Pokemon would find no joy in a Trainer's Adventure. The only reason the Ralts didn't put up a fight when the Pokeball had trapped it was because the human girl had that sense of adventure the Ralts wanted. That didn't mean she wanted to leave her friend behind forever...or had she? Ralts wasn't so sure of herself anymore, all she knew was that she was curious. Ralts had always been the explorer, the adventurer, and she had always been curious about those weird humans. Was it worth it, though?
The Ralt's thoughts had been interrupted when she was released from the Pokeball device. She shifted uncomfortably, tugging at the cloth mask around its face. Of course, it was a smart move on the human's part: the sand storm was pretty bad and the sad did want to attack her face. That didn't mean it was comfortable, or something the Pokemon was used to. She glanced back at Faith, but frowned when she heard the command. Right, she was the human's now and that meant that the Pokemon had to obey, but she wasn't so used to following orders. Ralts was used to doing things her own way, and she wasn't sure how she felt about being ordered around.
However, this had been her choice. If she hadn't wanted to be captured, she could have fought against the capturing device. The Ralts had decided to follow the human, and so she couldn't back down now. It was all or nothing, and the Ralts would certainly not give up. The Ralts glanced at the Hoppip, and used Confusion on it.
Faith watched the battle carefully, and realized the Ralts was weaker than the Hoppip. That wasn't all that surprising: the Pokemon with a limp was obviously experienced and the Ralts had just been captured. It had never fought by Faith's side before, so it wasn't used to this style of fighting. She noticed the Hoppip's attack, coupled with the dust storm was probably too much for her Pokemon. She frowned, and decided switching out the Ralts now was the best choice. Her new Pokemon was already injured, and she could see it shift uncomfortably.
"Ralts, come back." Faith said. "You did well, now watch the others."
The Ralts glanced back at the human with a frown, but it did not argue. She wandered back to her human partner, as Faith dug around in her pocket to grab hold of another Pokeball. The Ralts wondered which of them it would be, and found herself flinching with the memory of the fire type's ember attack. That had been anything but pleasant for the Ralts. She wasn't used to running into Fire Types, and wasn't sure if she ever wanted to replay the experience.
"Go, Spewpa!" Faith said, throwing the Pokeball and releasing the newly evolved bug type Pokemon.

As Hoppip's mind continued to play tricks on it the flying plant Pokemon grew even more confused as Ralts was replaced by a strange looking bug Pokemon known as Spewpa. Even in it's confusion Hoppip knew it had never seen such a strange looking Pokemon before and that it could not pull any punches so long as it's mind was still so foggy and this sandstorm continued to rage. Hoppip started to twirl the leaves on it's head to stir up a Fairy Wind but the confusion still plaguing it's mind turned the attempt to attack into a total disaster. The leaves on Hoppip's head started to smack itself in the face instead of stirring up a wind causing a fair amount of damage to itself and stopping any attempt to attack in it's tracks. As Hoppip gained enough control over itself to stop it's leaves from spinning the plant was quite embarrassed by the rather comedic show it had put on trying to attack. Hoppip waited for what it thought would be an incoming attack and was pleasantly surprised that none had come its way this round. That was about the only good news though as the Sandstorm continued to blow and both Spewpa and Hoppip were pelted by the sand causing a small amount of damage to both Pokemon. As bad as this round had been for Hoppip the plant Pokemon knew things could have been far worse and for that the plant Pokemon was quite thankful. Hoppip's head had started to feel better by now as the confusion had come close to wearing off. Hoppip just had to stay focused the best it could for a little longer and then it should still be able to get back into the fight. As things were the Sandstorm was the biggest factor working against it though if Spewpa was able to score a hit the battle may just get too out of hand to make a comeback. All it could do was hope that Spewpa did not know any moves that could cause damage or else it's bad luck might just go from bad to worse. Faith was really beginning to wonder if staying in Cherrygrove to continue training was a good idea. While she wanted to find the Mareep who was friends with her Ralts, she was seriously doubting her decision. The sandstorm was difficult, and her eyes stung whenever some dust managed to get in them. Her hand was lifted, covering her eyes from the dust as best she could, but it was far from the perfect solution. She wondered how flooding could turn into a dust storm so quickly, and frowned. The more she considered it, the more she knew that it was a better idea to leave Cherrygrove as quickly as possible. The Mareep was probably long gone, and while she felt a sting of guilt from that, Faith knew there was nothing more she could do about it. For both her and her Pokemon, the best solution was moving out of the storm.
Before she could do that, however, she needed to finish this fight with the limping Hoppip. Hopefully, she would be able to capture it and take it away from here. It was probably better off with her than with the group that had abandoned it. Her eyes stung as more dust found its way past her hand, and she couldn't help but keep blinking until tears fell from her eyes. This was going to be more difficult than she would like. She squinted once the stinging settled, and tried her best to figure out what to do. Faith considered her options, and frowned. The Hoppip still appeared to have some fight left in it, but the raging sandstorm and the Ralts's confusion had hurt it. She glanced at her newly evolved Spewpa and wondered if the bugs tackle would be too much for the Hoppip to take. If she wanted to capture the Pokemon, it was best not to push it too far or she wouldn't be able to catch it at all.
The idea of wasting valuable Pokeballs wasn't good, either. She sighed, trying her best to figure out the right approach. Eventually, she would need to find a way to make money, because she could hardly call herself a Pokemon Trainer if she kept running out of Pokeballs. Besides, she had a task given by the Professor! How could she let him down just because she was poor? No, she would find a way to make money. With that determination, she grabbed an empty Pokeball from her pocket and threw it at the opposing Hoppip. Hopefully, she would capture the confused Pokemon and get her and her Pokemon out of this place as quickly as possible.
