The mantis Pokemon was fast but not fast enough to outrun Scarlet as the bird Pokemon sped towards Scyther aiming her beak right at the bug types abdomen. Her beak broke through the other layer of the bug but it's sheer size and determination allowed it to endure the hit taking heavy damage in the process. Just as Scarlet thought she was in the clear however Scyther used a Pursuit attack to get some revenge scoring a small amount of damage and leaving the bird Pokemon feeling just a tiny bit less proud of her overall excellent performance. Lenore winced a bit with the two going at it, though there was some comfort in that it looked like Scarlet was easily the victor in the exchange. Lenore had grabbed one of the park balls for the contest and activated it with the touch of the central button but...
"Hmmm..." she pondered, watching her brave bird hover in the air between her and the angry mantis. "Scarlet, hang back a bit okay? Defensive time," the woman chimed after making a decision. She stepped closer and off to the side to get a better angle, took aim, then sent the ball flying.
Scyther seemed weaker than that grubbin had been, but being a Goldenrod resident she knew these things were rare. That had to count for something, right?

Broke out and used Quick Attack Lenore's Scarlet [Flame Body] : Normal. Waited Lenore's throw was good and it was heading straight for the scyther, but it was too fast. It snapped its head around towards her as she made the throwing motion which was much bigger than any movement she had done earlier, and it didn't help that Scarlet clearly just waited for something instead of charging on. It swung it's scythe and cut the pokeball in two, and was gone in a blur before the remains even touched the ground. The scyther slammed into Scarlet and was gone again in a blink of an eye. Edit: Not sure how I missed putting in the damage, I remember that I calculated it and was aware of the eviolite and all, but it is fixed now

Lenore wasn't sure whether to be annoyed or impressed with the way Scyther broke the ball. It was a complex mixture swirling about. She would have much rathered this was easy and she could move along, but such a display! The woman clicked a heel against the ground as she struggled with how to proceed. Now she really wanted the scyther, perhaps for more than just this competition, but it was clear the bug wasn't nearly weakened enough.
"Back on the offensive hun, but not too rough. Maybe something unexpected..." she began instructing her pokémon, though the idea seemed a little complicated. The fire bird sparked up, a spittle of embers dripping from her form as if in question of what the trainer wanted. Scarlet didn't want to let Scyther out of his sight if he could help it.
"No no, flail about a bit." Her words were accompanied with a shake of her hand, almost in dismissive gesture. She smiled as the avian seemed to understand and readied to attack. Lenore took out another ball and prepared herself too. Waiting for the opportune moment after the fletchinder and scyther made their next exchange. Perhaps she could catch the mantis pokémon off guard at the very least.

The scyther watched Scarlet suspiciously as the bird flew in close and then it raised it's scythes to protect itself from the flailing wings and claws. The brunt of the damage was taken by the scyther's hard carapaces and it lashed back which wasn't as effective either as Scarlet's unpredictable movements made him har to hit. It worked wonders as a distraction and Lenore's second throw hit the green bug square in the back and sucked it in with a blink of an eye. the pokeball wiggled but confirmed the catch quickly. Capture Scyther Gender: [Choose] LV: 13 OT: Lenore Berardi Moves: Quick Attack, Focus Energy, Pursuit, False Swipe Ability: Swarm or Technician If you choose to keep this pokémon at the end of the contest it will be added to Lenore's PC

The woman squealed with joy, clapping her hands as she stepped toward the newly captured scyther's sport ball. "Gotcha." Lenore plucked the ball from the grass and shrunk it, setting it aside in a separate pocket for the end of the contest. Probably.
"Good job Scarlet, what a show," she turned to praise her bird. This time she didn't force him into her arms, which at first he appreciated but soon missed. "Now... we should still have plenty of time to keep looking around sooo..." She raised a finger to her chin and scanned the paths open to her. While she was considering the fletchinder landed gently on her shoulder. Her head whipped around to view her pokémon in her peripheral, smiling broadly.
"Let's try this way."

The pair continued through the grasses at a leisurely pace. It was such a lovely day to be outdoors. Lenore was so pleased with the day's proceedings and the general atmosphere she almost missed when the grass suddenly broke way for a badly camouflaged silk ball. Her heel nearly ended up on the sticky mess of a pokémon and caused her to startle.
"Wha-ew!" she stumbled back a few steps, Scarlet taking to the air next to his trainer. The ex-showgirl took a second to get another good look at the wild pokémon, curious as to its non-existent reaction.
"Ick, another one of these cocoon pokémon. Scarlet," Lenore turned her head to her elegant fire bird. "Get rid of it for me, would'ga hun?" The fletchinder was happy to oblige.
With the dancer so close the ember pokémon decided not to go with its newly acquired elemental burst and instead went for something more physically forceful. Scarlet aimed for a couple good pecks to dislodge and push the silcoon out of Lenore's way.

Lenore's Scarlet [Flame Body] : Normal. Used Peck twice Scarlet had no problem hitting his target, the silcoon laid completely still. Which was necessary if it wanted to evolve at some point. It couldn't ignore the peck it got though and managed to shoot a few needles at him, which stung a bit but quickly fell off again. At the second peck it fell silent and as motionless as before, only a close look would reveal it was unconscious.
Scarlet won the battle and gained +2 levels (now lvl 22) He also gains +1 Happiness (+4)

Lenore nodded in approval at how quickly the bug pokémon had been dispatched. Sadly it seemed Scarlet hadn't been able to get it much out of her way, but with it being unconscious she didn't have to worry about it doing anything to her should she step over or around it. That would do.
"Another win for my Scarlet," the dancer chimed, skipping forward to get good clearance over the fallen silcoon. "I think we'll have time for just one more quick look around..." she paused to spin around and gaze at her fletchinder hovering nearby. Lenore smiled sweetly, "Some more reconnaissance beautiful?" Scarlet responded with a happy chirp before making to ascend above the trees of the park

Scarlet had a great view of the park, and could see how a lot of the other participants were heading back towards the entrance, while a few was still hunting down the last great catch. In between two trees a lilac and black pokemon was hiding and daintily moved to another hiding spot when a trainer got too close. It worked wonderfully but the illumise wasn't aware of the danger from above and she was in clear sight of Scarlet all the time. Shiny: oEAgm7071-421-42

Lenore hummed as she stepped along beneath her bird. She took a deep breath of the fresh, piney, air and let it fill her lungs. The day had turned out near perfect. Better than she had hoped. The nostalgia hadn't gotten in the way of making new great memories in the park she loved. These thoughts and more kept the woman distracted enough she hadn't even really registered that he had begun to circle a position, eying something on the ground.
After just a few moments of watching the pretty bug Scarlet felt a bit threatened. Her movements were so delicate and graceful. If Lenore saw the illumise there was a chance she'd stop paying as many compliments to the fire bird. With that in mind Scarlet made the decision to dive in. Perhaps he could dispatch of the bug before the dancer noticed her.

The dainty bug didn't know what hit her before the world burned around her, she lashed out but didn't much difference, at the second ember she raced off, calling loudly for help from all her pursuers although none arrived to her aid at the moment. Scarlet had removed a potential rival and could rest assured he had all of Lenore's attention. Scarlet got 1 level (lvl 23)! And +1 Happiness (+5)
