Through a garden, up in a tree, at the side of a river... Trixie's head was swimming as she tried to keep track of all the places that Professor Elm had told her to go find Pokemon. After a few days of muddling about she had decided to sling April under one arm, and point her Pokedex at anything the turtle let out a startle at. A random rustle of the bushes could just be the wind... but it could also be a Pokemon!
Someone coughed. "Bless you!" Trixie said on reflex.
When she turned to look, Pokedex still waving in front of her, she would see... two Pokemon, sitting next to a boy. It wouldn't do to try to catch those; they seemed pretty clearly owned by him, after all. He lifted his face to her with a smile, and she walked over to him, setting down April, who immediately scrambled away from the larger-looking bug. "I'm Trixie, a new trainer. You've got some cool Pokemon there! What's your name?"
So his name was Kent, and... she winced when he coughed again. "Where are your parents? Why don't they take you to see a doctor?" There was harshness in her voice. Her parents had always been on top of things whenever anyone in the household was feeling under the weather, having a doctor on-call. Their nanny was also trained as a nurse and... oh. She frowned, feeling slightly embarrassed. Medications cost money, just like Potions did. This poor kid. Maybe they just couldn't afford it.
The kid kept on talking, asking Trixie if she could bring him one of every type of Vivillon. She checked her Pokedex. "Shouldn't be too hard, there's just..." One, two, three, five, so many different patterns! Twenty in all. And a couple of them were really frilly and frou-frou, but there were others that looked cool, like that Ocean one!
Still... the time it would take to go raising all those Pokemon...
Kent could tell that she wasn't convinced. Then he showed her a stash of items that he had in trade, and even offered her his own Scatterbug to bring along on her journey, at least until the search was complete. Normally she wouldn't be much for charity - Mother said that as much as she felt bad about it, too many people were just taking advantage of it to be lazy - but if the boy was offering a fair trade, that didn't count, right? "Yeah. I can do it. You just sit tight and count on me!"
