Operation: Golden Opportunity (F)

As Kevin approached Goldenrod City right before the sun went down he stopped to catch his breath only to realize the white out conditions obscuring his view of Goldenrod. It seemed as though the curse had one final trick to play on him as he would have to rely on the very poor visibility conditions as he made his way towards Johto's largest city. He could not see two feet in front of his face and with the sun only being up for a short while longer knew he would be in for a long night if he did not find his way soon. The various cries of Pokemon in the distance made it even harder to stay focused as he followed a dirt path.

It was only after walking on the dirt path for a bit that he realized he had stumbled into a small clearing surrounded on most sides by tall grass. He knew the path backwards would likely cause him to get even more lost than he was so he stepped into the tall grass slowly making his way towards what he thought were the sounds of a busy city. He hoped he would not get help up by too much as he was so close to his goal.


OOC: Looking for a daytime encounter on route 34. As Kevin has a Bike from the Mystery Gift this thread will be a biking thread like my other characters.

Fog made it hard to see much on this route and Kevin would almost step in the ditto before he noticed it. Strangely enough it was not masking itself with another form but just looked at him blankly.

Ditto [LV 14] is strangely not in a disguise.

Kevin was stunned as he came across a Ditto who had not transformed yet. If he was better prepared he would have tried to capture it however as he knew they were tough to catch and he did not have many balls that would be useful against it he decided it was too risky to try and capture Ditto. He was not about to let the chance to battle such an odd Pokemon pass him by however as he sent out Oracle to battle the normal type blob. " Ah what a strange looking Pokemon. I am not sure what it is doing in such an odd area but I am curious to see what it can do." Oracle then stretched as she waited for Kevin to give her an order. She had no experience battling a Ditto but hoped they would not be too dangerous.

" Oracle use Aura Sphere and be careful. Ditto might not look like much but once they transform they can be quite a tough Pokemon." He then waited hoping that he would not end up in a bad position knowing how dangerous a Ditto can be once they get going.

Oracle's powerful blast would knock the Ditto through the air and into the base of a tree. The small Pokemon fell to the ground with small swirls over its eyes as it fainted. It might have stood a real chance, if it had enough time to transform into a duplicate of its opponent. But as it stood, the Ditto was no match for Oracle's Aura Sphere.

After winning the battle Kevin finally found the correct path to Goldenrod through the tall grass. He wasted no time in stopping in the nearby department store and stocked up on Ultra Ball's so that he could try and capture the next Ditto he encountered. With his stock now refreshed he made his way back to route 34 and stepped into the tall grass. " This white out is truly stunning. I have not seen such bad weather in ages. I do hope this doesn't impact my plans too badly. Maybe I will catch a break and the weather will finally break soon." He murmured to himself as he searched the tall grass for another encounter.

Something moved ahead among the mist, it swooped through the air and Kevin would get a glimpse of what looked like feathers before it moved closer to the ground. The shadow grew to stand tall, in a short moment he's be able to see a huge white grin with sharp teeth, confident eyes and what looked like a toupé on its head.
Another thick part of the fog moved past and what Kevin had seen was gone, in its place a little pink wellknown blob was seen.

An imposter has been revealed! It's a ditto [Lv 16]!

As another Ditto appeared Kevin was a bit shocked as they were not the most common Pokemon to run into. As he was hoping to capture a few however he was not about to let this stroke of good luck pass him by as he grabbed one of his Pokeball's and tossed it in front of him revealing Freyja his young Sylveon. She had not had much practice since she had evolved and he thought that she would be perfect to use as she did not have as many powerful moves as his other Pokemon and if Ditto transformed it would not be as hard to deal with as if it were to transform into one of his other Pokemon.

" Freyja I know you have not faced a Ditto before but I have faith you will be able to work wonders against it. We do not want to knock it out however so we will have to show it some quarter for now. I want you to put your teeth to good use here and try a Bite attack. If luck is on our side we might just be able to buy ourselves a bit of time before that Ditto can take advantage of it's attack." He then waited as Freyja charged towards the purple blob as she opened her mouth ready to strike.

Freyja ran close to Ditto and bit down as hard as she could. The Ditto just smiled with its goofy grin and began to transform into a replica of Freyja.

As Freyja completed her first round she had not gotten quite as lucky as Kevin had hoped however she still caused quite a bit of damage to Ditto before it was able to transform. The young fairy type currently had the upper hand now and though the odds of capturing Ditto were not great Kevin decided it would be worth the risk to attempt a capture this turn and hope for the best. He grabbed one of his Ultra Balls and tossed it at the transforming blob hoping luck would be on his side. " Go Ultra Ball capture that Ditto!"

The imposter Sylveon pranced around playfully, before it was bonked right on the head with an Ultra Ball. It was sucked inside and the ball landed on the snowy floor, wobbling once, twice, PING! Successful capture!

As the Ultra Ball clicked shut Kevin was taken by surprise by how easily the Ditto gave in. They were notorious for fighting any capture attempt but this one seemed willing to come with him after almost no effort on Freyja's part. " Well that was easier than expected. Great work Freyja, that was a textbook way to handle a Ditto. A Doppelganger like it was no match for the real thing it seems. That does seem like a fitting nickname for our new friend though." Once the dust from the battle settled Kevin knew his search was far from over as he still needed a few more Ditto for his plans and his team still needed a lot more training before the next gym.

" Let's keep looking for more Pokemon in the area and maybe we will get lucky. We will need to train quite a bunch before the next gym will be on our radar as I hear the young gym leader is quite tough despite her age. Youth can make for a dangerous opponent as it can be so easy to underestimate the skills of a young foe." He then started to look around hoping his lucky streak would continue.

In just a few minute, ditto popped out from the fog, wandering around as if looking for something. "Ditto?" It said curiously as it nearly bumped into Kevin's leg. Something about the foggy air must be drawing out the ditto today! It growls out, as if angry you were in its way. "Dittoooo!" Its mouth warbles out aggressively.

Another Ditto (Level 15) has appeared!

As a third Ditto in a row popped out in front of Kevin he was just about to buy as many lotto tickets as he could afford hardly able to believe his luck. Running into an uncommon Pokemon twice in a row was good fortune but three times in a row was very lucky. Capturing the last Ditto so easily only added to his joy as he wanted to ride this lucky streak as long as he could. Though he still did not have the best Pokeball for the job he knew he had to try and capture this Ditto regardless. Freyja was quite eager to help as well as she did so well in her last battle. " Freyja my dear, would you be willing to lend me a hand again? You did great against that last Ditto so why spoil the fun for this one?"

As the young Sylveon stepped forward Kevin knew Ditto would take advantage of it's tricks as soon as it could make a move and so acting fast and getting in the first strike was his best chance to get a early advantage against it as well. Bite worked very well last time though not quite as well as it could have and so Kevin hoped it would turn out even better this time around. " Freyja try and use Bite on that Ditto. If you catch it off guard it might give us a great opening." Freyja then rushed forward with her jaw wide open ready to bite the normal type with all her might.

The ditto glared and it rushed forward as quick as it could slide over the grass, two protrusions stretched out like arms towards the sylveon. She bit down on her gooey pokemon which wobbled under her touch, when she let got she spit out pink and white fur as another sylveon glared furiously at her.

Like her previous attempt Freyja had not gotten quite as lucky as Kevin had hoped however her Bite attack had done considerable damage to the Ditto before it could transform. Kevin had very little worry in the near term as Ditto had yet to cause Freyja any damage however he was not on the clock to capture the sneaky Pokemon before it could find some way to knock itself out. With that in mind he digured no time like the present to try and capture Ditto now and see if his fantastic luck would hold up. He reached into his backpack and grabbed one of the many Ultra Balls stacked inside with a firm grip.

" Not a bad showing at all Freyja, a shame we could not cause Ditto to flinch but it only would have bought us a single turn at best anyway. Maybe our capturing luck will be as good as it was last time but if not we can afford a few setbacks for the time being." He then looked at the young Sylveon who was quite eager to do more damage this battle. He wished he could risk it however he could not pass up a chance to capture Ditto and took aim at the normal type masquerading as a Sylveon. As it had copied all of Freyja's moves he knew it did not know any super effective attack but he still hoped to end the battle as soon as he could. After taking careful aim right between the tricky Pokemon's eyes he threw the Ultra Ball at Ditto and hoped for the best.

As he did a Pidgey suddenly landed in front of him with a carrier bag around it's neck. Kevin opened the bag revealing a letter telling him of a cruise on the SS Zulu that he was invited to. It had been ages since he was last on a ship and knew he had to go. " A cruise sounds great. I bet March will be there too. I need to catch up with him and show him Clamps, Berserk, and Samantha the next time we meet. I am sure he will have something for me next time we meet as well." The Pidgey then flew away right as the Ultra Ball made contact with the Ditto. Kevin waited with baited breath as he hoped luck would be on his side so he could make plans for the free cruise.
