Two leashes extended from Trixie's wrist as she walked up to the imposing Dark Cave. The blue one lifted up into the air, terminating in a harness wrapped around a Hoppip buzzing up and down as she surveyed the area. The pink one, by contrast, dipped down toward the ground, where a nervous Squirtle was safely secured. The leashes were for two very different purposes. Boing needed to stay close by Trixie, or else she was liable to go whirring off to the middle of nowhere, and Trixie could not afford her lantern disappearing in a cave such as this. On the other hand, the harness was a comfort for April, knowing that her trainer would always be nearby. "How does this TM thing work... I think we just set it like this?" Trixie gently tapped the CD-looking machine to her Hoppip's forehead. Boing appeared to have a look of serious concentration on her face. Her leaves spun faster and faster as the machine's learning took effect. Finally she was back to normal, and bobbed herself up and down in a nod, as the TM powered down and finally broke, its power having been expended. "How about it then. Boing, use Flash!" The Hoppip's body lit up with a brilliant light that forced Trixie and April to shield their eyes (note to self, Trixie thought, get April a pair of sunglasses), before the harsh glare subdued to a warm glow. Trixie stared in amazement at the mouth of the cave. She couldn't see very far - but she could see inside! The rock walls closest to Boing were lit up yellow. She could now walk around without bumping into them, or stumbling over rocks, hopefully. "Are we ready to go?" she asked her Pokemon. A timid "Squirt..." was her answer as April edged closer to Trixie, clinging to her leg. Was there someone else she hadn't noticed yet? Another light emerged from around a corner. A lanky girl with a green glowing pokemon peered down the stone hall toward Trixie. The girl waved, despite the large distance not yet closed between them. She had long and bouncy purple hair, big eyes, and was dressed in a fashionable yet expensive looking shirt and skirt. It looked like she mightve been wealthy. She also had a sort of long stride, and was quite tall. Despite her looks of high status the girl didn't get much closer. Her pokemon looked like a green spherical bird with odd eyes.
"Hey! Um...Were you also coming through here? Do you come through here often? It would be nice to have a guide...not like I'm worried about that!" The girl said with a chuckle. She seemed very hesitant to proceed deeper into the cave, had she been waiting at the entrance, too nervous to go deeper? Her pokemon eyed April, tilting its head.
The pokemon smiled, which looked odd with his beak. "Why hello there blue pokemon. You look just like my trainer's brash blue pest, but only you seem to be...less full of yourself?" He did a bow, which just looked like rotating due to his spherical body. "My name is Osiris, pleasure to meet you. If you are frightened you need not be! My trainer has some quite rude and violent pokemon, we should be safe from any guests in the cave I believe."
The girl looked at her pokemon, seemingly confused at his squawks. She turned her attention back to the trainer. "Er...you aren't going to challenge me to a battle right? Everyone has been doing that so far. Sorry if this is uncool but I'm not ready for a battle right now, I want to make it through the cave."

"Yeah, I was just about to head in with my Pokemon," Trixie replied to the lanky girl's question. She seemed to be quite well-dressed, and speak formally, but what would a rich girl be doing in a cave like this? "I'm not much of a guide, though... this would be my first time going inside." Boing was already tugging ahead to get a closer look at the girl and her bird. "C'mon, April," the leash-holding trainer said, as she hustled along. The timid turtle kept pace close by Trixie's side, looking around nervously at the shadows as they entered.
The girl's green bird bobbed up and down, and started speaking. Trixie couldn't make heads or tails of the conversation, but her Pokemon appeared to understand well enough. <I... don't need to be scared?> April was quite confused. Surely rude and violent Pokemon were a reason to be scared. <I... I'm April... and this is Boing...>
<How ya doin? Nice to meetcha!> Boing said to Osiris, whirring uncomfortably close to the rotund bird before she was jerked back by a sharp tug of the leash.
"Sorry about that. Boing doesn't really understand personal space," Trixie said, as the plant Pokemon started whirring in circles above her own head. "Don't worry. We're not here to fight you, just to explore the cave. Say, I'm Trixie? What's your name? Maybe we could go together?"
<Safety in numbers... isn't that right?> April said, trying to smile as she looked at bulb and bird for their opinions.

Only now did the girl come closer with a smile. It seemed that Trixie's interaction had lowered the girl's guard. She had one hand on the strap of her bag, standing with good posture as she got close.
"Trixie, hello there! I'm Sloane Siltstone. I...I would love to go together, it would definitely be safer, er I mean a lot more fun!" Sloane nodded briskly. Despite having a lot of energy she maintained the elegance of a rich, city girl. Her gaze drifted to Trixie's pokemon. "Boing huh? Thats a cute pokemon, I never saw one like that before... What is your squirtle's name? I also have squirtle, he's named Sloshy. My other pokemon here is named Osiris, he's new."
<Oh my!> Osiris flinched as Boing came zooming closer. He relaxed when Boing was prevented from smashing right into him. After unruffling his feathers, Osiris returned to his pleasant beak smile. <Precisely April, I see you have some survival instinct. I'm new to this whole...trainer thing. I hope I can take care of my trainer, she's a bit...er...not to be rude, shes a bit of a klutz. She might get into trouble, so let us do the generous thing and watch out for her, yes?>
"You'll wanna be careful over there. I was just heading around the corner and I heard some noises. There's definitely lots of wild pokemon in this cave." Sloane said with a curt nod. "Nothing we can't handle....right?"

Whatever Sloane had heard it didn't come in their direction, or perhaps it had just become really quiet in the hope they didn't come and found them, nothing came from that direction luckily, so the girls had time to explore first. The cave they had stepped into was more of a tunnel especially around the entrance which was why the light got blocked out so effectively. It soon would spread into a couple of tunnels, one took a sharp turn a few meters in, while the others widened to something which looked more like a cave, the light from the two pokemon neither reached the end or the top of that one. If they moved into the wide one, the air would be full of movements as they set a huge flock of zubats into frantic flying and their ears got bombarded by the high pitched screeches they used to orientate. The flock flew past without harming them and the silence was deafening and their footsteps would echo. They would come across a few smaller boulders scattered on the floor and unknowingly to them, several of them were geodudes but there would be no indication of that, other than a single pair of eyes opening briefly as they moved on. They reached a small lake which was really more just a puddle which was easily waded through if they wanted to get wet feet. It didn't seem like there was any of interest on the other side but the cave continued in another area although now they would be able to see the ceiling again, and one wall closed in from the right. An echo of a murmur reached their ears and soon the light from the flashes would reflect on something shiny, which moved. A flash would blind them momentarily before the bronzor turned enough for not reflecting the light directly at them, the light also danced on something smaller below it which turned out to be the head of an aron. The four legged steel type tilted its head pussled, "what are those? They are not rock.. they look like zubats just with very strange wings.""They must be from the outside," the round disk repeated its friend and sounded just as pussled, both their eyes were almost closed as they clearly wasn't used to the light which was brought in. "You think they can help us? I'm really hungry!" The aron said eagerly and the bronzor looked unconvinced, "they look very soft.."Aron jumped over eagerly, "Hi! I'd really like to see how strong you are and if you are, perhaps you will help me get to my iron? My stomach tells me I haven't eaten in forever!" Bronzor floated after and watched them doubtfully. "Sloane and Osiris, huh?" Trixie responded. "Nice to meet you. This Squirtle here is April. And Boing is called a Hoppip. Apparently it's a flying plant Pokemon native to the fields of the Johto Region." Yep, she had done her research after catching it. Boing bobbed up and down in assent. "So which way should we go?" But it seemed the question had been answered for her. Boing was already tugging Trixie toward the wider tunnel with the high ceiling. As she passed through the tunnel opening, she would hear a flurry of flapping, followed by screeches. "Aaaaah!" Trixie exclaimed as a massive cloud of Zubats detached from the cave ceiling and flew down toward her. She scrambled to cover her head with her arms, Boing drifting around her in frantic circles. April had had enough and broke off to run in the opposite direction, only to forget the harness around her chest. She stumbled and fell onto her belly at the end of the tether, withdrawing into her shell as she felt herself hit the hard cave ground. "Squiiiiirt!" "April! April, it's okay!" Trixie hugged her Squirtle close until she finally popped back out of her shell. <That was scary! I want to go home!> She began to blubber and cry, soaking Trixie's shirt in tears until the trainer pulled back to hold her at arm's length. "Yeah. You were probably scared, right?" Was the turtle's trainer agreeing with her? "But look, we're fine!" She rapped April on the belly, where her impact with the ground had left a little scuff mark. "Barely a scratch. They didn't hurt us, see? So there's no reason to back down now." Her trainer's words lingered with the Squirtle as she was carried onward. She wasn't hurt... so it wasn't dangerous after all? Then they passed a couple of rocks, and April swore she saw eyes blinking on the rocks. "Squirtle squirt!" she attempted to alert the two girls, but when Trixie turned back around she saw nothing unusual. "They're just rocks, April! I think you're seeing things." She turned her head back around and the rocks blinked again, but this time April held her ground. They're not hurting me... so it's fine. Everything is fine... she tried to convince herself, with minimal success. At least she managed to refrain from panicking until the rocks were out of sight. The next "obstacle" in their way was a shallow lake, which was somewhat reassuring for April as she managed to easily wade across, the two girls being able to do so as well. Trixie attempted a flying leap and landed right in the center of the lake, splashing water onto April, who managed a nervous laugh. Then something up ahead flashed, and temporarily blinded them, with Trixie yelling at Boing to "knock it off!" before she realized that it was a Bronzor that had been facing them head-on. As the disc Pokemon turned to the side they would be allowed to see normally, at least as normally as one could in a pitch-black cave with only two flying Pokemon for flashlights. Boing was quick to whirr over to the pair. <You need food? Uhh... I don't know what an iron is, but my trainer has lots of food and shiny things!> The Hoppip would fly over to unzip Trixie's backpack and start tossing items out onto the ground. A bag of Poke-chow, a Leaf Stone, a Star Piece, various rocks with crystal studded into them -- but the Aron shook its head at each in turn. It turned to face April, and reiterated its call for battle. The Squirtle looked at Osiris nervously. <They want to see if we're strong... do you think we're strong?> [words=620] Sloane Siltstone Sorry for the wait!

"Native to Jhoto..." Sloane mused. She nodded as they walked and made sure to jot that down in her notebook. She did want to learn as much as she could about this new region. "That explains why I've never heard of hoppip before. I'm sort of new here."
Sloane looked up to see Boing dragging Trixie off down into the cave. She hurried after, examining the walls of the cavern. She kept it to herself that a lot of these rock formations were very rare and cool. The caves in Jhoto might be very different than the ones in Unova. She was broken from her trance by the sound of Trixie screaming and shrieking. She saw a flurry of wings. Woobats! They were one of her favorite pokemon in Unova, she used to try and grab them in caves. They were really soft and she found them quite cute. Sloane gingerly approached, but her jaw dropped as she saw that these weren't woobats.
"Ewww ewww eww!" Sloane dropped onto her tummy and crawled as quickly as she could with the zubats overhead.
<Ewww Ewww ewww!> Osiris wailed, flapping wildly and trying to avoid the zubat swarm as it flurried about in a volatile pattern.
During the rest of the walk Sloane started to feel just a bit better. She was scared of exploring such a big cave alone, but now that Trixxie was here she didn't have to worry about that. In fact, Trixxie's pokemon being scared of the cave actually caused her to feel more comfortable. She felt like she was the brave one, and wanted to show April that this wasn't a scary place. She also wanted to show herself that she wasn't afraid of caves. An archaeologist afraid of caving would not be a good combination.
Osiris on the other hand was looking quite bored. He wasn't a fan of such uncivilized places as a dank cavern. The bird yawned with his wing to his mouth as his eyes lazily scanned the stone tunnel. He occasionally made a double take on some dark pits in the stone where he felt something was watching him. Osiris hoped nobody noticed him shiver.
Sloane watched Trixie leap over a small pond in the cave. This was her last dry outfit due to a certain Squirtle's shenanigan. She didn't want to risk it. "Osiris, grab onto my back and flap your wings, I need a boost!"
<You have to be joking...> The natu groaned. With his help Sloane easily made it over the pond without drenching herself.
The peace of the cave was again broken as two metallic pokemon approached. Sloane liked steel types, but she wasn't set on catching one at the moment. She noticed they were charging closer, once again them seemed bent on attack! Wild pokemon were always so ferocious!
Osiris however, who could understand them knew the nuances of the situation. <Oh? So you want to fight us and you want us to give you food? Good grief.> He chuckled. Osiris turned to April and smiled. <Yes, let's show them what we're made o->
Before he could finish Sloane tossed out another Pokeball. A cyndaquil emerged and got into a fighting stance. "Goooooo Toast!" Sloane cheered. "That's what it's all about, all about the Toast. Toast em' Toast!"
Osiris sighed and perched on a nearby stalagmite. Toast bounced around, ready for action.
<I'm gonna getcha! Im gonna getcha!> Toast grinned, her flaming back blazing brighter.
"Okay Trixie, what's the plan? You go after that uh...one with the mask-face and I go after the gear one?" Sloane asked. "I heard fire types do nice against steel types."

"Damn. Why didn't I think of that?" Trixie said as she watched Sloane hover across the lake with her Natu's help. For all her rich upbringing, this other girl seemed like a real adventurer! It seemed that a battle was in store for them, judging by what their Pokemon were saying, and Sloane's decision to call out a Cyndaquil who appeared to be named Toast. "Sounds like a plan," she said. "The little mask-face one has steel plating, but its body looks like it's made of rock. That means it's probably weak to water. April, get in there and do your thing!" The turtle Pokemon nervously gathered up water inside her mouth before spitting a jet at the Aron. Her battling companion seemed far more enthusiastic. Secretly April was hoping that the creature named Toast would take care of the battle for her. But no, if Osiris was willing to fight, and he believed in her - she had to prove herself, and that meant staying in the battle until the end! "You mentioned you're not from here," Trixie said to Sloane. "So where did you come from? I'm from Kanto, just to the east of here. Not all of the Pokemon here also live there, of course, but there's enough overlap that I recognize a few - like those Zubats that ambushed us, and also Squirtles." "Toast! Hit that gear-guy with...ember!" Sloane pointed and struck a pose. Toast happy bounded forward, eager to prove herself after their prior experience.
"Huh?" Sloane turned from the head of the beginning battle to focus on Trixie's question. "See, I'm from Unova. It's a pretty far away region, but it's mostly full of big cities and the only pokemon I see are ones that usually live in human cities. Seeing so much nature and so many old ruins is kind of new to me. In my region there's a pokemon like zubats but...theyre a lot more friendly."
<Go go go! Charge charge charge! Toast can toast em or no one can!> Toast cheered herself along as she got in front of the bronzor. She got down low on her front paws and her back blasted fire at the steel type aggressively. <Toast....embeeeeeeer!>
Sloane looked back at her excited pokemon to make sure Toast was okay. This was actually the second time she had used Toast in a fight, the first being when she encountered Osiris in the wild. Sloane wasn't sure if Toast could handle herself. Back when Sloane caught Toast in Sprout Tower she had needed Sloane's help. Would she be able to pay back the favor without getting hurt? Sloane would never forgive herself if she let Toast's enthusiasm be crushed too easily.
<Go on April, show these rubes what it means to think before you strike.> Osiris said, perched on his stalagmite. He was carefully watching the squirtle, and gave a smile as she decided to attack.

"I know where the food is!" Aron repeated eagerly while Bronzor floated forward curiously, "What's a 'trainer'?" It asked. "We don't have time! I'm hungry!" Aron interrupted urgently. They both drew back as Boing began to haul things from Trixie's back, but they soon moved forward to investigate what weird stuff it was. Aron shook its head after a quick inspection, "this isn't food," it explained in an attempt to be more clear, "but I know where there is some! Just need help to get it free!""Time to test if you can help us!" Bronzor declared with a tingle in its eyes. Aron looked eagerly from one of their opponent to the other, waiting to see what they could do, the bronzor looked more wary. "So what will you.. argh!" Aron began to ask and then screamed as strong light flashed from Toast. An 'umph' was heard from Bronzor when it got hit by the Ember, "that hurt!" it gasped. "What happ..?" Aron started to ask behind closed eyes when April's water crashed into its side and toppled it over. It spent a few moments flailing before it got back on its feet again. "Water! It can spew water! Water is good! Water can cut stone!" Bronzor said equally eager and through pain, while Aron shook some of the moisture off it. "I don't like what you do! You hurt my eyes," Aron said to Toast with a scrunched up face and a pout. Bronzor floated closer with a grin, "I know how we can stop it!" It whispered something to Aron who broke into a smile. Bronzor turned its body back and forth and began flashing as it reflected the flames from Toast, the patterns messed with the cyndaquil's head, and anyone standing else who was not quick enough to look away. The rock and steel type pawed the ground a bit, then leapt straight up and landed hard back down with all four feet close together. A faint ripple of dust was seen leaving it and then big boulder's shot up right before Toast and effectively blocked the light from her. "Ah! Much better!" Aron exclaimed as they stood in the shadow, it was completely oblivious to that it hadn't hit as precise as it had thought and Toast had been thrown back by the boulders closest to her. "Isn't it great?" Trixie said. "Kanto's kind of like Unova, in that we've got a lot of cities. Granted, I grew up in Celadon, the city of flowers, so there were a lot more trees and stuff at least in that area that I just got used to. Friendly Zubats, huh? Sure would like to know how that works." She was still skeptical. Zubats were the menace of Mt. Moon, as pretty much everyone who traveled through the cave could tell stories of. She watched as Sloane got Toast excited for the battle, and cheered a little inside as the two Pokemon's attacks found their marks. Of course, the other side would have a chance to retaliate. "Oh no!" Trixie exclaimed as Toast was thrown back by the combination of beam and boulders. "Sloane, is your Pokemon okay?" Even with the poor lighting in the cave, she could tell that the Cyndaquil had quite a few scrapes and bruises. April quivered as the two Steel-types knocked her fellow starter Pokemon around. Tears formed at the edges of her eyes as she ran over to check on Toast. This was a bad idea, wasn't it? Had she gotten herself into more than she could handle? Maybe they should just quit now. "Squir... Squirtle?" she asked her trainer, who put her hands on her hips and shook her head. "Nuh-uh, April. You can do this! Your shell is sturdy, remember? Stand in front of Toast and protect 'er!" The trembling Squirtle was already between the Cyndaquil and the other two Pokemon. Seeing the determination in her trainer's eyes, she attempted a mirror of the same expression and turned around, spreading her arms wide. <I... I won't let you hurt her any more!> To bolster her courage, she gathered up a spray of water in her mouth and blasted it toward the Bronzor, hoping her new friend wouldn't injure herself in the process of trying to continue the battle. "Toast!" Sloane wailed. She had never seen one attack bang one of her pokemon up so badly. She couldnt quite answer Trixie's question right away, she didn't know if Toast was ok. Toast, despite her eyes crossing from how woozy she felt, wobbled to her feet.
<It's gonna.....hr....It's gonna take more than that to take out the Toast!> Toast wobbled on her stubby legs.
Sloane bit her lip and pulled out Toast's pokeball, ready to withdraw her. It was then that Trixie commanded April to guard Toast. For a moment Sloane glanced at Trixie. She had always sort of been alone on her quest, with just her judgement and her pokemon. Here with another trainer, Trixie was protecting Toast for her, and she didn't have to try and muscle through it by herself. Sloane didn't have to withdraw Toast and let her down.
"Trixie..." Sloane shook her head and got back to being focused on the battle. She put Toast's pokeball back and produced a super potion from her back. Spraying the brick-red liquid on Toast, most of her bruises disappeared. Still, Toast seemed not quite...balanced. The Cyndaquil swayed and bobbed.
<Wah...? What are you doing!?> Toast looked at April in confusion for a moment before it clicked. Toast beamed, but kept bobbing up and down from her dizziness. <Woooah! You've got guts! I'll help out in just a second!"
Sloane sighed in relief, this was a lot easier than going alone.

"Looks like they are powerful enough to help us get the food! Though, I think we may have gone overboard hitting them back. It looks like they still want to fight!" the Aron said, leaping from foot to foot eagerly. "Ugh... I'm just so hungry!" It said, wearily."
The Bronzor floated closer and watched with curiosity as Sloane sprayed a red mist over Toast, its wounds disappearing. "It seems that the outsiders take care of their companions" the Bronzor said, the attacks they had inflicted in the previous round of battle healing up before its eyes. Just then, a water gun attack hit Bronzor from the side. "Still want to fight, huh?" the Bronzor said, the water gun barely phasing it.The shining metal face of the Bronzor reflected a bright light, it was almost as if the water had charged it up. A second later, its eyes flickered with a dark glow, and the air around April warped, sucking in the shadows of the cave around before erupting into a burst of power. "How's that for some payback?" the bronzor said, irritated. "Lets take that fiery one out!" the Aron said, charging forward towards Toast. April stood firmly in front, blocking the Aron's path forward however, and the Aron skidded to a halt. "Oh, are you stepping up in their place?" The Aron blurted out to April. The Aron leaned back, lifting its forelegs up again and pounding them firmly into the ground, another boulder popping up from the ground, this time hitting April in the front instead of Toast. "I think we've made our point" the aron chided. The boulder obscuring April from the Aron's view. The aron looked back at bronzor. "We should get out of here. I don't think the outsiders are going to help us find any food."
Bronzor hovered up slightly, observing the scene before them. "I agree, it seems that the outsiders just want to fight. Even after seeing how strong we are! Perhaps retreating would be wise... We're still no closer to finding that food you promised." Bronzor said to the Aron, the pair of wild pokemon more interested in their food discussion than the fight ongoing in front of them. "April!" Trixie cried out as she saw her Squirtle take the brunt of two attacks, one after the other. "April, are you okay?" The little blue turtle Pokemon shook her head, but stood her ground. The opponents were right, they had come too far, and there was no turning back now. She was still resolved to fight... though perhaps she was moving a bit more slowly than before. "That disc-shaped one on the left seems to be the most dangerous," Trixie observed. "Sloane, what do you think? Let's both go for that one and take it out next round. Your fire attacks seemed to do quite a bit." April's water-based spray had done much less, but it still seemed to have enough of an effect to make the Bronzor want to switch targets. If April couldn't withstand another attack, though... She clenched her fists nervously. Could the little bird lighting the way for Sloane continue the fight? She knew her Hoppip was pretty useless against such opponents... but she still had one backup Pokemon up her sleeve! "Let's go for it, April! Water Gun on the Bronzor!" The Squirtle gathered up all the power she had left and fired off a jet fiercely. Her aim was true, the spray going directly toward the center of the disc-shaped Pokemon's face. She could only hope it was enough... [words=226] April used Water Gun on Bronzor!Sloane Siltstone

Sloane took a moment to stare as Trixie made up her mind. Sloane, who would never let her pokemon faint no matter what, saw Trixie taking a risk. It wasn't a bad thing, Sloane decided, to take risks for your pokemon. Trixie was counting on April, and it made her fight all the harder. Sloane playing it safe had caused the enemies to gang up on April, now she would have to make sure that she let Toast make up for the lost time. Sloane glared at the disk shaped pokemon and pointed. "Toast! Hit it with another Ember!"
<I was hopin' you were gonna say that!> Toast grinned back at her trainer, happily puffing some smoke from her mouth. The fire mouse then locked eyes on the bronzor. She saw...two bronzors? Seemed like she was still a little woozy. She'd just have to get some payback for that! As Toast charged toward the enemy her back glowed brighter. <Take this neeeeeeerd!>
Toast skidded to a stop and spat out a flaming orb of fire, hoping to send it right into Bronzor.
Osiris from the side looked a bit worried as he watched April wobbling. His eyes narrowed, he knew it was basically a given that April was going to be wiped out, she was giving it her all to make sure they finished the fight. Osiris hoped he was wrong. <April! Keep your eyes on them!>
The natu hoped his advice would be useful, after all, April was putting a lot of effort into this. Osiris really wanted her to be conscious to see how meaningful her sacrifice would be.
{Ready for a mod!}
