Several hours later...
Hunter Travis poked his head up from where he was sitting to get a look at his new cell mate. It was a man, not much older than the girl trainer with whom he had a fateful encounter earlier that day, and he was screaming at Officer Jenny, even as the bars to his cell were sliding shut. "This is an outrage! Police brutality! I want my lawyer!"
"Damn kid... should have stayed in school," Travis mumbled to himself.
Coordinator Rod glared down at him. "And what are you staring at?" he snapped. How dare he be imprisoned alongside someone so... scruffy and unfashionable! "And I demand a change of clothes! I look horrible in stripes!"
Travis sighed. It was going to be a long night.
After they had finished giving their individual reports to the police, Trixie had insisted on treating her two new acquaintances to dinner at a nearby cafe, in thanks for their help with catching the criminals. Sammy had been curious how Trixie and Jimmy had met. The purplette gasped audibly as Jimmy told the tale of how frightened he had been at the sudden appearance of the Houndour, and he praised the School Boy for being so brave. The Azurill now known as Sprite was having a good rest at the Pokemon Center, and expected to make a full recovery. From what Officer Jenny had said, the Houndour were doing fine as well, and good homes were already being sought for their adoption.
Trixie spoke up next. "I just want to say I'm sorry," she said to Sammy.
"Sorry for what?" Jimmy asked.
"I got heated, and I was pretty mean to you. You didn't deserve it," she said. "I shouldn't have suspected you of being a bad guy. I know now that you were only trying to help."
"It's all right... I think it was a rough time for all of us," Sammy replied.
Trixie hesitated. She wasn't sure whether to tell this next part. She rarely opened up like this to anyone. But if the apology was to be sincere, then it had to be said. "I had some bad experiences with Coordinators in the past," she started. "Specifically, my mother. She pushed me into competing in Contests alongside her, but then she would scream at me when I didn't do well. And my sister would join in making fun of me. When I saw how that guy was treating his Houndour... it reminded me of me when I was younger. And how angry and helpless I felt."
"I see..." Sammy peered into his tea.
"But I'm all right now!" Trixie said, abruptly trying to shift the mood. "Because now I get to train Pokemon, I'm doing good work for Professor Elm... and I have friends."
"Friends!" Sammy said, raising his cup of juice.
Trixie could toast to that.
