The roar of the Spinda had come from behind Caitlin, causing her to pause. Since she didn’t know what it was, she was unsure how to react. Turning her head slowly, she got a full view of the spotted bear, teetering around on its unsteady legs. She blinked, trying to process what she was seeing. Since she couldn’t speak Pokemon, the meaning behind the sounds was unknown, with the only indication being that the creature was angry.
Caitlin looked down at the egg, but when she looked back at the bear, the pattern on the egg did not match the creature at all. Was this creature trying to eat the egg? It didn’t look like that kind of Pokemon, but she couldn’t stop to scan it. Teetering forward, the Pokemon came towards her.
”STOP!” she yelled, but instead of looking scared, she looked angry that this Pokemon was just going to randomly attack her.
”I don’t know what you want exactly, but if you attack me, you might make me drop this egg. That would be the true shame here.” she finished, letting her voice return to a regular volume.
When she was a teacher, sometimes the spike in volume of voice was enough to get the children to listen to you, especially if you did not do it often. She hoped that the same thing would happen here.
Azazel had made his way to her side, and snorted smoke from his nose.
<She tells the truth. My human is a fire type trainer. This egg is fire type, I can smell it. Let us take the egg and care for it. You will not be able to help it control its fire when it is born,> he said, trying not to be condescending.
<Make no mistake, I will not let you hurt her.>

When the strange human growled at the small Spot Panda, it stopped dead in its tracks. It stared at her with its swirly eyes and blinked several times. Was this strange creature becoming aggressive with the wild bear? Would she charge at it, lunging her own attack?! Immediately, Spinda bent down and scooped up a pile of dirt, clumped together with bits of grass and broken twigs, into its paws. It would need to calm this strange human down and confuse it much like the Pidgey around the area always did to the Spinda whenever it tried to talk to them! Copying what it had seen other Pokemon do all the time, the Spinda tossed the bits of dirt and debris at Caitlin, hoping to lower her accuracy down before she could land a successful hit. “You stop!” It roared back in her face. “I don’t know exactly what you want, but if you attack me then I might just have to battle you! That would be the true shame here!” It mimicked her. When Azazel spoke to the Spinda, it jumped backwards. Its thick feet tumbled backwards on the leaves that littered the ground and slid a bit, though it would catch itself before it fell. Ugh, where were the forest cleaners when you needed them?! Wasn’t it all the Wurmple’s jobs to eat these dead and decaying leaves up so that Spinda wouldn’t keep falling all over the place?! “I tell the truth!” Spinda roared at Azazel and pounded its fist into its chest. It couldn’t just trust Caitlin because she had one or two fire types on her team. The Poacher that it had to stop had illegally caught so many rare and valuable Pokemon, with some being rare fire types. Spinda knew that Caitlin could have easily forced the others on her team, and even that Azazel could be helping her capture more poor, innocent Pokemon illegitimately if his heart had been corrupted to do so. “You two could be poachers, I can smell it. Let me keep the egg like I promised its mother I would do and care for it. You will not be able to help keep this promise when you weren’t there to see her pass.” Spinda warned Azazel, using one foot to draw a line in the ground in between them. “Make no mistake.” It warned, narrowing its swirly eyes on Azazel with an angry growl, “I will not let you hurt this egg!” Wild Encounter

Caitlin’s eyes went wide as the Spinda formed a little dirt clod and threw it at her. Putting her arm up to protect her eyes, the loosely made dirt ball broke apart instantly, causing a circular dirt spot on her skin.
Before Caitlin could do anything, Azazel growled and rushed forward, his claws out and shining.
”Azzie, no!” she cried, but it was to no avail.
The small fire lizard jumped into the air and swiped down with his claws, attempting to scratch the wild Pokemon. Whether he was successful or not, he jumped back and took the fighting stance again.
<How dare you throw something at her. You will pay, bear,>
This was getting out of hand way too quickly.
”Please, stop this!” she pleaded to the two Pokemon, not wanting a fight to take place.
”We have no desire to hurt the egg! It’s the opposite, actually, we want it to hatch into a healthy baby. Besides, what type are you even?” she asked, not thinking to take her Poke dex out. While typing wasn’t everything, it would be really hard for a baby fire type Pokemon to learn from a differently typed caretaker.
”I understand that you don’t trust people. I understand that something bad must have happened for this little egg to be left alone. However, this little one will be hunted all its life if it stays in this forest. At least, if it comes with me now, it will hatch to love and will grow with patience and love. That is my promise to you, little wild bear.” she said, her eyes pleading with the Spinda to just let this go.

The bear staggered back at the sudden ferocity of Azazel and covered as the scratches ran over its plump body, but it was quick to gather its wits and it growl furiously. It jumped forward the moment Azazel paused to mimic he had just done and let its small claws run down over his skin. The moves were almost one-to-one to what Azazel had done a moment before. Spinda staggered back, not because it was hurt much but it was just the way the bear walked. It glared at Caitlin and it was far from ready to let this go, the human blabbered and she still clung to that egg with her greedy hands. "Why should I believe you?" It shouted accusingly and pointed between the human and her charmander as it wobbled several steps to the left. "Put. It. Down!" It growled at Caitlin, "You have no right to it, and I cannot use all your excuses for anything!"It staggered to the right and did a turn around itself, a paw came out and pointed towards a nearby tree, and even though it moved around erratically, its paw pointed steadily as it had been tied to the point with a string. "I was a friend of its mother, I know this place and can teach it what it needs to live out here! I promised to take care of it, and I will not abandon neither that promise and that poor little egg!" It snapped, "you on the other hand comes waltzing in with no care in the world, with all your lies and pretty words. You are not better than the last one and look what that ended with!"If Caitlin and/or Azazel looked closer at the tree which the spinda was pointing at, they would see an old metal snare with a little tuff of black hair. No other signs had remained from the fatal battle but it was probably clear enough to them what had happened. And the spinda clearly had managed to take well care of the egg up until now. The bear turned to Azazel and growled, "mark my words, get her to listen and put. the. egg. down! If not I will make her do it with whatever it takes! Even attacking her! Put the egg down and show some manners and we can talk! Right now you are nothing but thieves, trying to stall and trick me to get away with my responsible and promise. If you really mean what you are saying, then show it!"Wild Encounter

This was not going well. There was some kind of an impasse happening here and with the language barrier between human and Pokemon, it was becoming impossible to solve this respectfully. If Caitlin could understand the wild Spinda, she would probably agree and understand that the panda was the guardian of this egg. Overall, it would still be safer with her than sitting out in the wild.
They were way past this point though, as the growling bear was giving the wrong message to the human and her Pokemon, especially when he said that he would attack her. Azazel would never allow that to happen, going so far as to continually be in front of the bear. Small claw marks on the fire type’s skin showed where the Spinda had copied his scratches, but since Azzie was bigger, it looked worse than it was.
Spinda appeared to be showing them something and when Caitlin squinted, she could see the rusted chain attached to the tree. It was some kind of a poacher’s trap, which had clearly been there for a long time. How awful. If the trap was active, why did it look so out of shape? If it wasn’t active, why would the poacher leave it there like that?
Terrible.
Wait….did that poacher’s trap have something to do with this egg?
Black fur in the iron teeth of the trap……Houndour egg…..it was finally making sense. The wild Spinda must have known the mother of the egg and that would explain all of the anger.
Slowly, Caitlin lowered herself to the ground, sitting cross-legged in the leaves that scattered the forest floor.
”Azzie, come here,” she murmured.
The Charmander didn’t like this, but followed the order and ran over to her side, before plopping down next to her. He was facing Spinda, just in case the bear attacked her now that she was vulnerable.
”I’m sorry, Spinda. It seems that we have had a major miscommunication here. I can’t deny, though, considering how rare the pup is in this egg, I would love to be its trainer.” she said, a tear sliding from her eye.
She placed the egg on the ground in front of her, her hand supporting the top of it so that it didn’t roll.
”Would you ever consider coming with us? It would get you away from poachers and out of this forest, and you’d be with eggie.” she asked, making eye contact (at least she thought, considering the swirls). Would a wild Pokemon want a trainer?
Maybe the idea of protection and love?
She really didn’t know at this point.

It did not seem like the spinda was going to get through to this pair by words, especially that stupid lizard refused to listen to reason and the bear was sure he could have gotten his trainer to understand if he had just wanted to. It prepared to have to beat some sense into them even though it would be risky when the human refused to let go of the egg, but it be damned if it was going to let one human take it, one who seemed as greedy as the other, after what the other had done to its mother. It had been a nice time they had had together even though it had been short, the houndour had bene injured and the spinda had nursed her and when she had laid her egg shortly after, it had done what it could make them a warm and safe nest. It had been a happy time but had been cut short when the hunter had tracked them down, and as the houndour was still not up to full strength she hadn't had much of a chance. She had begged the spinda to protect her egg while she draw the attention away, which the bear had done ever since she had been taken away. The spinda had almost categorized Caitlin as ruthless as the poacher when she suddenly called Azazel to her side and apologized to the bear. It narrowed its eyes suspiciously, not really believing her words. "Put the egg down!" It ordered once more and pointed pointedly on the ground in front it it. Its eyes widened when she actually did that, and after a momentarily shock, it rushed over to check it, slapping her hand away from the egg. It seemed fine although a bit too cold, which made Spinda frown. It wasn't ready to admit it to Caitlin and especially not to Azazel, but it had been surprisingly hard to keep the egg warm after its mother had gone, spinda had taken care of its own eggs before but this part fire type egg apparently required much more warmth than other kinds of eggs, and it had been a struggle for the spinda. It had also been forced to move the egg around a lot, as lots of egg thieves had been around in the hope of a tasty snack and was quick for find their hiding places. And now winter was coming with even more cold... Spinda turned its attention to the two, still with a paw on the egg and huffed, "I can see you two are too stubborn for me to change your mind, and I guess you are better than the poacher, at least you battled me fair and squre." It looked at them proudly and debated another moment with itself, "we'll join so that I can make sure it gets a proper raising and learns about its mother," it declared finally and would accept Caitlin's offer with a nod.  Azazel surely learned something from seeing his trainer convince spinda to join, he grows +2 levels to [Lv 12]! He can learn Dragon Breath if he forgets another move! Caitlin hugged her hand to her chest when Spinda hit it, the paw swipe more of a surprise than actual pain. However, she didn’t react and simply sat there, watching. The bear inspected the egg first, probably expecting cracks and then let its paw rest flat on the shell, probably doing a warmth check.
Throughout all of it, the red head remained silent, nothing to contribute to the actions of the bear. The Spinda said something and before she could look to Azazel, the normal type Pokemon nodded to her, confirming that he would go with them.
Smiling, Caitlin dug into her bag for a second or two before pulling out an unengaged poke ball. Tapping it, the capsule grew in her hand before she placed it down in front of Spinda. Additionally, she pulled out what looked like a small blanket and wrapped the egg in it. She was worried about the temperature, but fortunately the egg hadn’t been exposed for long.
A bright white light indicated that Spinda had tapped the capsule with his ball before her Poke-dex chimed that it had been recorded in her Dex and was officially registered to her. She’d think of a name later. For now, she just wanted to get to the next town before anything else crazy happened.
Standing, her knees popped from being in the sitting position. She winced, before windmilling her arms to stretch out. Reaching into her pocket, she pulled out Azzie’s poke ball before returning the fire type, shrinking it down and placing it back in her pocket, with the rest of her poke balls.
Egg in one hand, she continued down the road, smiling at the sight of the upcoming town.
