The farmer's market in Cherrygrove was doing something special this spring: a swap meet for Grass-type enthusiasts. While it wasn't exactly Trixie's favorite type, she had recently discovered something that she might be able to trade for. One of the regular NJPBF auditors at her Daycare had noticed a slight glow to the shell of one of her Hoppip eggs, and suggested that she might be able to get something valuable for it. As she was already in the area, it was no problem for her to make the trip out to the meetup. So Trixie was carrying the egg in her arms, walking past incence stalls and decoration stands, to where she saw a large group of Trainers congregating. Each of them had eggs - some with only one, and others with a dozen or more. Though they varied in size, virtually all of them had something in common: somewhere on their shells was green, the color of fresh spring grass. Would one of those eggs belong to her before the end of the day? Caramell 🍬

Zaiden nuzzled a small green egg with bright yellow spots on its shell close to his chest as he walked throughout the swap meet. Many enthusiasts offered him the chance to trade his egg for theirs, some clamoring after the thought that they might hatch into quite a competent little grass type, while others just wanted a ‘rare’ Pokemon that was hidden inside its shell – at least as far as Cherrygrove was concerned. They could wander off into the Evergreen of Ilex Forest to find them a bit more common…but who was doing that? Who was traveling past nearby Violet anymore? He felt overwhelmed by all the people gathered around the area and tried to mentally tell himself to focus on the task at hand. I’m here to trade or sell these eggs. It should be worth something…right? He huffed softly underneath his voice, biting on his lower lip worriedly. “Heya! Yaw anna part wid that thar Budew for a one of a kind, never before seen, luxuriously shined, Bellsprout egg?!” A strange girl in overalls pressed her face super close to Zaiden, who simply shook his head feverishly and quickly retreated into a corner away from the crowds. “I’m sorry, little one…” Zaiden frowned as he ruffled his own hair with his fingers. “I thought we’d find your new owners here…but now I’m not so sure…” Zaiden admitted aloud. Should he just take it back with him, tuck it inside his incubators within his Daycare, and let it hatch first? Would he eventually find it a home in due time after all that? Or was the only offers that he'd find pilfered to him for his little Budew Egg simply Bellsprouts that he had very little interest in...? One shiny shell tucked underneath a strange girl's hand caught his eye. "Hey!...uh..." Zaiden called out to Trixie, then fumbled on his words. Why did he call out, anyways? His throat tightened with the effort to find the words to speak. "Why's it...uhh...glowing?"Jenesis

"Hey!" Someone called out to Trixie, and she immediately whipped her head around to look, making eye contact with a brown-haired boy who seemed to be trying to shy away. But it was no use. When two Pokemon Trainers made eye contact... well, something was bound to happen. She walked over toward him, cradling the Hoppip egg in her arms, and waited for him to finish stumbling over his words. "Why's it glowing? I dunno." It was probably not the answer he was hoping to hear. "Maybe it's special somehow... hey, do you think it could be a shiny? Maybe I shouldn't trade it after all!" She must have been louder than she thought, because before she knew it, a strange girl in overalls was right up in her face. Trixie couldn't make out much of the girl's thick accent, but she thought she heard the word "Bellsprout." Nuh-uh. She had already fought enough of those in Sprout Tower, she was not interested in seeing any more of them for a good while. "Sorry! I already agreed to trade with this guy!" She turned to the shy boy and mouthed WORK WITH ME HERE. At this point it didn't matter to her whether it was a lie or not. The boy had an egg she hadn't seen before, so... surely anything had to be better than another Bellsprout, right? Caramell 🍬

Zaiden rolled his eyes at the persistent Bellsprout momma. Why was she trying so hard to pass it off? Though he would never be caught dead wearing them, this girl definitely had a particular style with hers. "I hatched a shiny once... It didn't glow... Maybe it's an inherited move??" He pondered aloud.
"I ain't never seen a Hoppip hatch 'fore an' I's always said to mesel', I's said 'Ya's gotta get yas a Hoppip ole girl. An' hatch it!" The girl tried to insist, pressing the Bellsprout egg closer to Trixie with a wiggle of her eyebrow. "An' this heer Beelsprout's champion bred! Tha's right lil missy! All it's pappies an' great granpappies won gold medals!"
Zaiden didn't even want to ask what they won them in. When Trixie insisted they had agreed to a trade, he'd quickly hold out his Budew egg towards her in offering. "Uh... Oh! That's right! Now this Budew's momma knew Sleep Powder and it's daddy knew Razor Leaf. So I'm thinking it might be blessed with either or both moves." He informed Trixie.

"Both Sleep Powder AND Razor Leaf? That sounds like a GREAT deal!" Before the insistent Bellsprout owner could react, Trixie had already pushed her Hoppip egg into the boy's arms, and had scooped the Budew into hers. "Sorry, we're all done over here!" She flashed her brightest, most insincere smile at the girl, before making a point of turning her back with a flounce. Placing a hand on the boy's shoulder, she pushed him along in a random direction until they had rejoined the thick of the crowd.
When they had retreated a sufficient distance, Trixie looked around, making sure the girl was distracted with a new victim before talking again. The egg was still softly glowing against the pallid teal color of the boy's shirt. "You were saying something about inherited moves earlier... you mean Egg Moves, right?" She narrowed her eyes in thought. "I didn't think this egg's parents knew any Egg Moves. But I don't know how else to explain it... Pokemon sure are more mysterious than I realized."

The girl stomped off into the distance with an angry scowl. A tiny preschooler stopped her and offered a strange looking egg he identified as an Oddish egg, which she traded hers for. Zaiden turned back to Trixie and nodded his head as he gently cradled his new Pokemon egg in his arms, wondering what kind of inherited move could cause this glow.
"I only know of egg moves, personally..." He hummed thoughtfully glancing up for a split second to the clouds above. "But I've heard they weren't the only types of moves that could be passed down... I don't know. But it'll be interesting to see!" He smiled brightly. Then Zaiden would bid Trixie a fond farewell. "Thank you! I promise to take very special care of this little one!"
