Alex vaguely remember coming to the National Park for a Bug Catching Contest before. It had been so long that he had forgotten it, until his bud Ethan told him about his time in one. He thought it was strange and unusual for him to use a Shedinja. As he jogged his memory, he remembered that he used his Ivysaur last time, and.... he caught a Scyther last time?
His memory was hazy about this, but he wanted to re-live the fun time again. He called out his Pokemon, a Lilligant that stood tall amongst the other Rattatas and Pidgeys and Meowth and Zigzagoons. He found an area away from the crowd and headed toward there. "Chryaisy, let's try to use Sleep Powder on whoever appear first!" He had a strategy in mind, and mostly it was putting opponent to sleep first. Although, this time, there was a certain Pokemon, not Scyther, that he saw on the roster that he wanted to see.

Alex was walking normally when a moving shadow moved above him. He turned and saw a Butterfree! As soon as his Pokemon started twirling and releasing sleepy powders, he moved out of the way. The bug type was alerted of the situation, and spread its equally sleeping powder. When he had time to assessed the situation, Alex realized he did not need another flying bug, as Tackzill and Casilk were more than enough.
"Uh. We're going to pass on this one. Chryaisy, use Giga Drain!" He monotonously replied to the encounter. The dancing Pokemon hummed and then conjured some green light that would be used to absorb energy from the poor Butterfree. He waited and see what would happen, presumably, sending the Butterfree to bed early.

The spores clearly didn't do as expected and the butterfree looked rather offended by that. It flapped frantically a few times when energy suddenly got zapped from it and it furiously retaliated by sending a strong, sharp wind at Chryaisy. It didn't do much to her and another giga drain undid all damage the bug had been able to do, it was clear to the butterfree it was way out of its league and it fluttered off as fast as it could.  Chryaisy gets 650 exp! (1635/3367) She also gains +1 happiness point! (+8)

The Lilligant was obviously too strong for this area's bug type Pokemon, but Alex had intended it this way. The Butterfree blew strong gust against the grass type, which were all for nothing, as the grass type could easily sap the life out of the duo type. After the bug had fled, Alex thanked Chryaisy for her good work. The two then continued to venture farther into the park.
He looked around and saw some strange Pokemon amongst the participants, a Shuppet, a Flaaffy, a Hippopotas, a lizard Pokemon he hadn't seen before, and a Dunsparce. These were all interesting choices. He didn't need to waste time thinking how would they fare though, when another Pokemon appeared. He ordered his grass types to use another Sleep Powder at the opponent. The flower Pokemon twirled and danced and spread another cloud of sleeping powders.

Alex and Chryaisy encountered a small black crawling bug Pokemon from underneath the tall grass. This wasn't that exciting, but the grass type readily danced and spread sleeping spores to put the Scatterbug to sleep. "We're passing on this one too. Chryaisy, use Giga Drain on this Pokemon!" The flower Pokemon bowed and conjured strange green light to drain the life force out of the poor bug Pokemon.
While that was going, he looked around to see how far everybody was. He didn't see anyone finish their Sport Ball or all of their encounters yet, so that's a good sign. The trainers with stranger looking or unusually picked Pokemon were still out and about, so they're also more or less the same pace as him. He also started looking around for the next area to look for bug Pokemon, as this open field right now wasn't giving him good encounters.

There were little difference on a sleeping scatterbug and a fainted scatterbug, at least if you looked at it from the outside. The bug didn't move when Chryaisy showed the more dark side of grass types: sucking the energy from their surroundings. Leaving the black bug behind, they set out to find something more interesting. Chryaisy gets 850 exp! (2485/3367) She also gains +1 happiness point! (+9) |

The Scatterbug was fainted while it was sleeping under the Lilligant’s sleeping spells. Alex thanked his Pokémon and the two continued looking for bug Pokémon in the park. He spotted a medium sized tree that was kind of standalone, and went toward it. When he was under the tree’s shade, he stretched and waited.l for whatever Pokémon encounter next.
Seeing that his Pokémon might be over powering, and decided maybe the sleep powder wasn’t needed for his next encounter. The two waited until something appeared to make a decision. Hopefully his third Pokémon encounter would be something interesting.

A Metapod dropped from the tree. How unexciting. Alex sighed and had ordered his Pokemon to commence with a Giga Drain. When the first Butterfree appeared, he had already established that he would have nothing to do with this line of Pokemon, as he already had Casilk and Tackzill. Even though he did not have a lot of encounters left, he was really interested in finding something else interesting. Patience, he has, but luck? He wasn't sure if he had any.
After Lilligant had executed the Giga Drain, he would wait and observe the area to decide if he would move to another area, or wait under this tree again. Although, when he looked around, others don't seemed to be having much luck either. Maybe if everyone's luck was collectively average or unfortunate, then he would not feel bad.

Chryaisy pulled all the energy from her opponent and caused the Metapod to just collapse on the side of the ground. It didn't have the energy to fight back or move...if it even knew how to move...did it? Hmm....

After the Metapod was drained, and then fell to the ground, lifeless, Alex was a little frustrated from this competition but also found it funny. "Either the bug Pokemon got smarter, or this National Park had some population problem. Hopefully I'll encounter a Pokemon I haven't seen before soon." He muttered to himself, both laughing at his luck and laughing at himself.
The Lilligant seemed to be having fun though, as she hummed cheerfully with music in her mind. Alex turned toward her, and shrugged half-defeatedly. He said to his Pokemon about his next plan. "Let's hang out by the tree one more time. Maybe, just maybe, something will be curious about us." The Lilligant didn't care, and just grinned while enjoying the beauty of nature.

Something extremely small and yellow flew above and around Alex's head. He looked up and saw the Pokemon, and then thought that it looked interesting enough. While it looked like it was smaller than an average ruler's height, the Pokemon was unfamiliar to the young trainer, and it did not look like it was not originally from Johto.
He pointed at the fluttering bug and spoke to his Pokemon. "Chryaisy, look at that!" The Lilligant turned around, and then followed his finger to adjust her line of sight. "This one looks interesting! Use Sleep Powder on it!" The grass type tilted her head and smiled sweetly. Then, she danced and spread her sleepy powder in a routine manner, hoping to get the small bug to sniff a whiff of it and take a midday nap. Whether that move would be successful or not, Alex though to follow up with a Sports Ball and to try his luck.
