It's not a Bug, it's a Feature [BCC]

Life was a bit of a challenging remark for Zaiden as of late. He worried about the time that his travels were taking him and had woefully underestimated how long making it to the championship and garnering enough money to save his parents’ home. Anxieties stole away his mind as he walked through the front gate and into the National Park where other trainers rushed through the tall grasses. The hot sun scorched the earth underneath their feet, causing the pavement to rise to unbearable temperatures that even the youngest of toddlers would choose to keep their shoes on instead of trying to yank them off, as was their nature at such a young age.

The beige teenager gulped and turned to the bright pink sheep who waddled on her two hind limbs close to his side. Uba was far from grateful to have been brought along on such a trip. Chasing after random wild bugs through tall grasses in the vain attempts of catching the ‘best’ bug of them all sounded rather childish. Why did it matter? Why did her trainer seem so hung up on entering the competition? As a small child bumped into Zaiden, all smiles and giggling at the top of his lungs, Uba immediately lit up like a Christmas Tree. Electricity bounced around inside of the orb at the end of her tail while bright yellow bolts zipped through the fluffy wool around her neck and head.

“Oops, sorry!” The small child clamored, pulling away from Zaiden and rushing off through the tall grasses. The teenager held one hand out to his Pokemon, stopping Uba before she could charge a powerful bolt of lightning at an innocent child for simple accident. “No, Uba. It’s ok.” Words that were so simple and straightforward took everything inside of him to muster the strength to utter. He nodded towards the tall grasses and pressed his way into their depths, gesturing for his bright pink sheep to keep close to his side. What would they find within their depths?

Zaiden paused in his tracks as a large three segmented comb buzzed in the air above him. Small eyes peered out from each of the honey-shaped combs with powerfully small wings that lifted the tiny creature up high into the air with a wide grin. The young teen had never encountered such a strange looking bee before and didn’t know too much about them. As he fished around inside of his pocket for his Pokedex, Zaiden questioned whether it would be best to try to capture the create straight away or if it would be better to try and cause some damage first.

After fishing the electronic device out of his bag, Zaiden flipped through pages upon pages of information over the supposed bee. Only the females were known to evolve into queens that led their hives. The trio of bees made up the Pokemon and were paired in such a unique form since birth. They spent most of their day constantly gathering sweet floral honey to please their queens, and sleep in large colonies of nearly a thousand bees clustered together to form a beehive. Each swarm is known to produce a different flavor of honey as well, so some Combee keepers will grow specific flowers around their hives to try and influence the flavors.

“Uba use Thunder Shock.” Zaiden called out, reaching into his pocket for one of the few Sport Balls he’d been given at the start of the event. The pink sheep bleated loudly as powerful bolts of electricity zapped throughout her wool. When she’d managed to build up enough of a static shock, Uba would fire one of the bolts from her densely packed wool around her neck at the small Combee with a determined smirk. “As long as this will get us to move on soon.” She stated with a short huff. Though, she had to wonder why they weren’t first paralyzing their opponent to limit its ability to attack them back? Perhaps, her trainer was counting on Uba’s natural static to do that job for them?

OOC: Using Thunder Shock & then using 1 Sport Ball.

The combee was strange, more strange than normal combees even although how should Zaiden know that? They treated it like any other combee and zapped it out of the sky. It regained its balance and slammed into Uba and bit her wool a bit, and skillfully avoiding her electricity and the paralysis which came with it. The Sport Ball it did not manage to avoid, it seemed like it still lacked a good amount of knowledge.

If kept at the end of the BCC it will be added to Zaiden's PC.

Zaiden watched his impressive yet old sheep battle against the wild Combee with widened, cautious eyes. She’d managed a powerful electric attack that knocked the wild bug out of the skies. When it fluttered back, landing on her and sinking its teeth into her flesh, Zaiden bit on the ends of his nails nervously. Uba was more than capable enough to handle her own against these wild bugs. Though, flashbacks of the powerful Beedrill that knocked out his Hageshii in a previous bug catching competition flickered in the back of his mind, keeping him on his toes. It wasn’t wrong of him to be concerned, after all. If it managed to survive one blast of Uba’s attack, what sorts of hidden attacks might it have that could easily decimate his Pokemon?

It wasn’t until after the Sport Ball stopped wiggling around on the ground in front of him that Zaiden relaxed. His chest felt like it was on fire from being held so tightly with bated breath, though as he eased into a steady rhythmic breathing routine once more, it calmed down. He picked up the small dark green ball with bright green stripes and two small red dot over the button in its center. Combee… Were they useful? Valuable? Rare? He wasn’t entirely sure. Zaiden didn’t sit around enough crowds to truly get a feel for what other trainers wanted the most, since his anxiety made it difficult for him to communicate with others. He gulped, shaking his head quietly, and pocketed the new capture for now.

What if he ran into another Pokemon he wanted more than this one? The rules were as clear as day that he would have to choose. Uba pressed against the back of Zaiden’s denim jeans and bleated in annoyance as she tried to force the young trainer to march it through the grasses once more. The day was wasting away from them in a competition she never truly wanted to be part of. What was she going to do if her trainer went all starry eyed and forgot the mission this quickly? “Come on, please!” Uba pleaded with Zaiden. “I want to go back to resting and relaxing around that nice pond Professor Elm has!” She huffed.

Zaiden’s rich brown eyes watched as a beautiful purple butterfly with bright white wings soared overhead. He was all too familiar with this species of Pokemon. Not so long ago, Zaiden had captured a wild Butterfree in one of these events. While it didn’t go home with the top prize, Butterfree had given Zaiden third place in the bug catching competition that time. He hummed thoughtfully to himself, reaching his hand into his pocket to gently touch the small ball that currently carried his new Combee inside and wandered if switching to a Pokemon he already knew he’d had success winning previous competitions with was better.

“What?” The old ornery sheep glared, puffing up her wool as she stared down the strange flying bug. She halfway turned her head to her trainer with wide, tired eyes that begged him to focus on their battle at hand. Perhaps if she charged for a bit, then attacked the other Pokemon with a stronger blast of her electricity? “It’s none of your business when we leave. Got it? And what’s the Metapod Gala anyways, hmm?” The pink sheep demanded to knock, placing her hands on her hips with a sassy expression. Zaiden shook his head and yelled out, “Uba use Thunder Shock and don’t let up!”

Uba bleated and nodded her head firmly. Play time with this flying insect was over, thankfully! Several large bolts of electricity surged throughout the densely packed wool and the tip on her tail began to glow as energy bounced around inside its core. Once she was able to take aim at the Butterfree, Uba would send her strongest bolts of electricity she could muster after the fluttering bug, hoping to knock it out of the skies. “Looks like our time talking might be over, though.” She stated firmly, happy to be done with this young whippersnapper who seemed to think it already knew everything so much it could speak so rudely to its elders.

"Yes yes, the galla was last week, you are too late my dear, you better go home and relax," the butterfree said kindly, sounding just a tad degrading as if Uba was slow in the upstart.
"But talking is so nice! At least if you have some good companions," it said and filled the air with spores, which didn't affect Uba at all. It then got the air knocked out of it when she shocked it and it breathlessly blasted her with a gust of wind in an attempt to turn her away, it just resulted in another electric shock. Surprisingly the butterfree was still airborne.

Uba’s eye twitched as she listened to the large butterfly degrade her. Who did this Butterfree think it was, anyways? Large sparks jumped throughout Uba’s wool as she glared angrily at her opponent. She shifted, stepping closer towards the black-veined white butterfly. Uba clenched her front paws into tight fists as she approached and clenched her jaws in a tight growl. “I’m old enough to be your grandmother!” Uba snapped firmly, stomping one foot into the grassy ground with enough force to dislodge a few blades of grass out of the earth itself. “So you’d best show me some respect. Do you understand me young bug?!” Uba demanded.

Zaiden bit his lower lip with his teeth and winced from the pain that pulsed through his body. It wasn’t too painful, but it would leave a sore spot on his lower lip for quite some time. This wild butterfly was a pretty tough opponent and managed to struggle through some of Uba’s strongest punches so far. But given the outward appearance of both combatants, Zaiden was nearly positive that Uba would be the one to handle herself perfectly fine to see the battle to completion. “Uba another Thunder Shock! Be careful of Butterfree’s wings!”

The wild bug already tried to paralyze his sheep, which thankfully she was immune to. He had to hope that it would keep its focus on things that didn’t have lasting effects, or that wouldn’t work anyways like the previous Stun Spore. Uba nodded her head firmly and bleated confidently as she took another determined step in Butterfree’s direction. “Thing is, I’m done talking.” Uba huffed, firing one large bolt of electricity from the wool packed around her neck. “And I won’t get the luxury of leaving until after my trainer finishes his little competition.” Uba stated in annoyance while rolling her eyes.

Butterfree spun around in the air and soared up high above Uba. The two tangoed, with the pink sheep chasing after the bright white winged butterfly from the ground below. Large electric sparks shot through the air with loud crackling sounds, gaining the attention of other contestants that duked it out against various bees, gnats, and worms in the tall green grasses around them. Two powerful waves spiraled from Butterfree’s eyes, hitting Uba directly and causing her to stumble a bit on her feet in an awkward, wobbly pattern. She smacked herself with her paws while shaking her head and regained her mental processes.

“That was a dirty trick!” Uba snapped, balling one of her hooved paws up into a tight fist and waving it dramatically in the air. Large bolts streaked through her wool and zapped around the bright blue orb on the tip of her tail. When the Butterfree swooped down low within range, Uba fired two large bolts from her tail and hit the black veined butterfly directly in its chest. Butterfree collapsed to the ground below and tumbled about in the bright green blades of grass as it fell out of the air dramatically. Uba smirked, nodding her head with a satisfied look. “Maybe now you’ll respect your elders.”

Zaiden sighed, shaking his head as he studied the small woolly Pokemon. Though she could still battle on in her current condition just fine, he worried how long Uba would last if he didn’t step in and intervene sooner. The young teenager turned to his bag and dug around inside of the different compartments until he finally located a small purple bottle filled with healing medicines. He would whistle to get Uba’s attention then wave her over to him, where Zaiden would generously spritz down the worst of her wounds. Once they were fighting fit again, Zaiden would nod and lead them on through the tall green grasses of the National Park.

OOC: Using 1 Potion and self-updating this and all level gains from previous fight. Will have 8 Potions remaining. Uba is forgetting Tackle and learning Take Down, self-updating. Also Tiki Uba gains +1 happiness from battle to +2 Happiness total.

Even as the bug competition began to heat up, some of the contestants were nearing the end of their search. Rich brown eyes searched over the tall green blades of grass and studied the various other trainers that were waging their own wars against bug kind in the trenches around them. Several faced off with small green caterpillars whose head were adorned with bright red antennas and small yellow circles marking the sides of their bodies. One young male who looked to be in his early twenties or upper teens faced off with a bright green cocoon that stood still in the face of a gigantic flower-like Pokemon. A long brunette haired girl traveled with a sandy hippopotamus that kept spouting large sandy debris from its body with every encounter they met. And a ninja easily scorched a tough looking yellow jacket with the help of his fiery black lizard.

The battles were tough. Two small kids bickered in grass nearly tall enough to hide them over who was the rightful competitor to capture a cute yellow fly. As they pushed and shoved each other, their two Pokemon tussled near their sides. Both trainers brought bulbous green plant Pokemon with them that looked identical, and the two plants unleashed several long green vines that they used to smack each other with religiously and indiscriminately. Zaiden giggled as he watched the small fly simply soar up above both trainers, turn away, and buzz off through the canopy of trees in the woods just past the gated National Park. He was sure that neither trainer would have loved to know what became of their future catch, whenever they would turn away from their squabbling to pay attention to the world around them.

Then a gigantic green mantis hopped out of the grass, sharpening the long blades on its forearms with a dangerous glare. Something about these humans trambling all over its home didn’t sit right with the wild bug. Several smaller children tried their best to catch it, either by battling it and simply being blasted away with one mighty slash of its long claws, or by trying to pelt it with strange green balls it could easily escape from. Uba stood like a statue against the mighty beast. Large yellow streaks coursed inside of the round blue ball at the tip of her tail. She growled with an ornery sneer. As her lips curled up at the ends, small flattened teeth of an obvious herbivore flashed in the break her top and bottom lips. What did this wild creature think that it was going to do?

“You can’t just do whatever you please around here!” Scyther snapped and pointed accusingly to Zaiden, the empty purple Potion bottle, and the other trainers who were all battling and capturing wild Bug Pokemon. “You’re ruining our happy home! Prepare yourself, because I won’t go easy!” Uba glared and bleated in a loud, determined voice. “I’m sick and tired of all you youngin’s telling me what you’re about to teach me! I’m old! My bones ache just because I exist! And I’ve seen my fair share of fights!” She snapped as two large bolts of electricity blasted from the soft white wool around her pink neck. “So if you think you’re going to teach me anything, you’d be ready to prove me wrong! Because I’m going to spank you so hard I’ll finally teach you the manners your momma couldn’t! You’re a rude little bug whose got no respect for the elderly and it's high time someone puts you in your place!” She hissed angrily.

The young teenager reached his left hand up and gently pressed his fingers through the short stalks of his mousy brown hair. Zaiden would scratch the top of his head with his short nails and sink his teeth delicately into the soft flesh of his bottom lip while watching the two Pokemon face off against each other. There was no doubt in the youngster’s mind that Uba could handle her own against the wild mantis. She was strong now – much stronger than when the bug catching contest had originally begun – and could easily withstand the test of time itself. However, it was something else entirely to consider whether or not she would come out of this relatively unscathed.

The beige trainer wasn’t prepared for just how fast the green preying mantis could move. It’s large translucent wings pounded the air at its sides and sent the Scyther soaring at unbelievable speeds. Whenever Zaiden blinked, he would immediately lose Scyther’s location. This caused Zaiden to twist and turn his head in various directions just to catch up with the wild bug. Scyther rushed in, catching Uba by surprise, and slashed his long bladed arms against her side. The pink sheep bleated out painfully and stumbled back on her feet as the two faced off against each other and sent two long streaks of lightning that hit the wild bug directly in its chest and nearly knocked it out of the air. “I warned you that I wouldn’t go easy!” Scyther snapped firmly, taking back to the airways above Uba and Zaiden and beating its long scythes together in warning. “I see I’ll have to take you out entirely, now!”

Zaiden was shocked to see just how aggressive and determined that Scyther was. Somewhere inside of his mind a lightbulb clicked in remembrance of his upcoming Gym Battle. Wasn’t Bugsy known for his impressively tough and nearly impossible to beat Scyther, as well? Rich brown eyes with hues like dark chocolate widened in worry, then firmed with confidence as he noticed how well Uba survived Scyther’s hit. This was definitely a powerful bug and had it been a bit stronger overall, Uba might have have been in a world of trouble. However, after scanning his pink sheep carefully and comparing it to Scyther’s health, Zaiden was confident that Uba would survive the worst of this with the upper hand on the wild bug.

Scyther spiraled in the air above Uba’s head, causing the pink sheep to spin around on the ground as she tried to keep up. Large streaks of lightning bolts crackled through the air and bounced off the large fountain in the center of the National Park. A few of the gathered trainers who watched Uba’s battle with deeply set interest would grumble and complain loudly at the stray lightning bolts that almost smacked them in the face. Scyther would immediately slam his wings into Uba’s side, ripping off chunks of her fluffy white wool and leaving a small scar along her shoulders. “You know you still haven’t apologized for your rude mouth. Do you kiss your mother with it or does she even know how you speak so ill to your elders?!” Uba bleated, knocking the Scyther out of the sky and winning the match with a perfectly placed bolt of lightning.

As Scyther sped away through the wild grasses, Zaiden would nod towards the tall grasses once more and press on. They still had a couple more encounters that he hoped to see before the bell would eventually ring and announce the end of the event. Maybe they would find a better Pokemon than the Combee he caught? Or maybe they would choose to take it home with them in the end? Whatever the case, he wanted to see what else the National Park had to offer first.
