The bug did freeze up when Sentomaru glared at it, but then it shook its head as to free itself for it, looked like it was saying something not directed at them and then crawled forward to give the dunsparce a feeble tackle. Looks like the sewaddle was far away in some daydream or play of its, where Sentomaru was an extra.
The ball struck true and sucked the bug inside.

Matthew watched in smug satisfaction as another of his plans came to fruition, the Sewaddle being unable to fight against the Poke Ball's constraints. With a faint click, Matthew once again retrieved the Sport Ball and weighed it in his hand. Sewaddle was an interesting enough Pokemon, and one that had put up much less of a fight than the Combee had. But he remembered the rules of the contest: It wasn't enough to catch a Pokemon, but to make sure that it was one that wasn't too injured and was of a certain power level. The Combee, beaten and battered as it was, would not be earning him very many points today. But he'd have to release one of his two catches, for the sake of fairness and judging.

He retrieved the Poke Ball containing the Combee, activating its release feature and allowing the physically frail honey bee back into the grass. The Combee, still beaten and bruised, looked at Matthew hesitantly before scurrying back into the brush. It seemed that whatever she was offering or peddling to Matthew and Sentomaru during their initial encounter was not worth being consistently smashed beneath a snake's rolling body. Matthew hoped the bee would find somewhere to put up her new hive and hide out until the contest was over, the bee had been through enough already after her first Trainer encounter of the day.

"Sentomaru, we've got a pretty good catch so far. May as well run down the clock, look around while we still have the run of the park," Matthew said, looking down to the snake mole. Sentomaru nodded, seemingly willing to go along with his Trainer's antics for a bit longer. The snake mole began burrowing into the ground, trying to get out of the sun for a bit and into the cold embrace of the dirt. Matthew could still faintly see the snake's body moving through the ground, the bright yellow poking out through the topsoil. It seemed that Sentomaru wanted to move through the dirt by Matt's side rather than hobbling by his side out in the open.

Oh well, Matthew didn't have too much of a problem with it. He could still see and hear Sentomaru, and the Pokemon was nearby in case anything jumped out to attack them. So Matthew and Sentomaru continued even deeper into the park, in search of their next encounter.

Beedrill found it rather unsettling with how many trainer there suddenly had arrived at the otherwise peaceful park, and it buzzed around trying to dodge and avoid all the ones targeting it, or it thought it targeted it. It watched others of its kin battle some of the trainers and it began worrying it would be called a scaredycat.
Then it spotted Matthew who seemed to be on his own, a human without a pokemon was easy to beat and chase off so it made its presence known to him.

There weren't many things in the Pokemon world that Matthew thought unsettled him. He had grown up seeing Trainers wander into town with fire-breathing dogs the size of a small car, or living down the street from a dojo where men regularly trained against multi-armed Pokemon who could bench-press buildings. There were all sorts of strange creatures in the world that people seemed to just be okay living alongside and working with, Matthew understood this. But there was still something deeply unsettling about the creature that appeared before them, being a wasp or hornet that was about the same size as a small child.

"Sentomaru, showtime!" Matthew called out, stirring the mole from its moment of playing in the dirt. Sentomaru sighed, unburrowing himself and emerging to see what had come out to greet them. If he hadn't liked the Combee or the Caterpie that had come out to get in their way, then he most certainly didn't like this Beedrill. He recognized this kind of body language, it was looking to muscle in on his Trainer and his territory. If the other Pokemon knew he wasn't able to keep the kid from getting bullied by this ugly little bug, then they wouldn't rely on him anymore, and Sentomaru couldn't allow that to happen. "Rollout, run it down at maximum speed."

Sentomaru took in a breath, rolling itself into a ball and rotating at high speeds once again. Dirt and debris continued to fly everywhere as the snake mole, tail connected to mouth once again, rolled and spun through the dirt and launched itself at the strange bee. Matthew knew that Beedrill wasn't typically a friendly creature, and not one that would just sit and allow them to chuck Poke Balls at it all day like Sewaddle or even Combee had been. It was just as likely to come after him with those needles as it was to go after Sentomaru. No, the best strategy was gonna be to try and wrap this up quickly, put it down and get moving before it could alert any of its friends as to what was going on.

Matthew looked briefly at one of the nearby clocks that had been set up for contestants. His alloted catching time was going to come to a close soon, and he couldn't afford to let himself get caught up dealing with a swarm of angry Beedrills.

Beedrill focused on its opponent as Sentomaru curled up into a tight ball and slammed into Beedrill's side. The wild hornet didn't lose its sharp focus even as Sentomaru knocked it out with another high powered slam into its side as a curled up ball.

It was beginning to get a little disturbing as to how many of their problems were able to be solved by having Sentomaru curl into a ball and run things over. Matthew did not look forward to the possibility of having to be on the other side of such an attack after seeing how effective it had been in this little excursion thus far. Still, the Beedrill was prevented from being able to get in their way. Normally Matthew might try to approach it and move it into a more secluded spot so as to avoid the risk of it being trampled or endangered, but he did not want to risk approaching the bug even while unconscious.

Plenty of insects let out a pheromone that attracted more of their kind after being hurt or killed, after all. Who was to say that there wasn't a swarm of Beedrill all sensing that one of their own had been taken down and were on their way to avenge it? Matthew recalled Sentomaru into the Poke Ball and opted to make a hasty retreat further into the park, interrupting the mole's attempts to continue spinning and rolling around. Judging off of the time on the clocks stationed throughout the park, he had maybe 5 or so minutes left. Enough for one last encounter, then he would have to begin the trek back to the security booth that the contest had used as a starting point. He could already see some people beginning to turn back, seemingly satisfied with their own catches. Matthew fidgeted with the Poke Ball containing his newly caught Sewaddle, wondering if something even more unique would pop out to attack him next.

Something unique did appear, it was not often this black worm was seen but if it was one the contestants were interested in was harder to say. The scatterbug paused its wiggling over the path momentarily to glance at Matthew, but as most people tended to ingore it for the more rare pokemon, it continued on its way calmly.

Matthew was thus far unimpressed with the latest appearance of prey in this Bug Catching Contest. The sight of the Scatterbug reminded him greatly of Kent, the Bug Catcher whom he had made a promise to some weeks ago. That he would gather the different varieties of Vivillon and show them to him before his illness progressed too far. While he could use the additional Scatterbug, Roger was currently helping take care of his original. Roger knew a thing or two about Pokemon Breeding, it seemed, and had offered to help Matthew with seeing to the young boy's request. It had warmed the elderly gentleman's heart a bit to see his former ward going out of his way to help someone.

But that also meant that Matthew did not see much point in capturing a new Scatterbug, when he already had quite a few waiting in the wings. It would be a shame, but he would have to take this bug out in order to progress. It also meant that he was likely to run out of time while dealing with this puny bug, but he was happy enough with his current capture. Sewaddle would make a fine addition to his team, and he wouldn't mind getting to see its plant-weaving abilities in action.

"Sentomaru, one last time! Show it your Ancient Power!" Matthew commanded, releasing the snake mole from its Poke Ball once again. The cryptid looked around, having been sure that its activity for the day was over with after being recalled into its home. But it heard the command and saw the strangely big-headed bug inching closer to his Trainer. This would be good experience, Sentomaru and Matthew agreed, even if they did each feel a little uneasy about defeating such an obviously unskilled and unprepared opponent.

Surely this was the exact one which Matthew would want! He was putting all his time into helping that poor sick boy getting his last wish fulfilled and everything that could speed that up, he would be doing. Surely anything else must be a mistake.
The scatterbug itself didn't know about the sick kid, and if it did, it may not worry too much about it. Bugs died everyday, why would it be any difference that a human did? It cared about its own safety though and was quite shocked when rocks was suddenly barraging down upon it threatening to bury it.

The referee for the competition called out, it was time for the contestants to return and have their catches evaluated. A winner had to be found.
