"For free?" The man said in disbelief and looked down at Lei with bared teeth, Lei nonchelant ignored his rude tone and the growlithe growling at his side.
"Yes, you did not expect me to pay when I'm not here on my own behalf?" She asked him with raised eyebrows but he refused to bite her bait and ask for more informations. She sighed as the added effect now would have been lost, and handed him the paper she had made Professor Elm make for her. The warden snatched it and studied it closely, "we don't do it like that," he snarled and Lei kept her posture and expression neutral to not rile him more.
To Lei it took ages before he made a decision, "you are not going alone!" he snapped, and she nodded her agreement, "of course not." Inside she groaned and wanted to punch him.

It was Lei who had convinced Elm it would be a good idea to go here, and go here before she had spent time reaching it on foot and paying for access for her own money. It had taken some time to argue that her idea was the best, and he had reluctantly agreed on the condition that he decided which area she went to. She had reluctantly agreed.

Wetland was not the area she herself would have wished to go to, but here they were. The guard lead her out of the shuttle and she wrinkled her nose at the smell and looked disheartened around, while he guffawed at her discomfort.
"You are free to go where you want, I'll follow and make sure nothing funny happens," he said with a barely hidden warning.

"Gotten cold feet?" the warden asked dryly as Lei didn't really go anywhere and her discomfort was clear, she glared at him, "never! I was send on a mission and I will fulfill it in the name of science!" She declared. She couldn't help but wonder if Elm had chosen this area specifically to annoy her.
She would stomp off but only got one step ahead when the water from the soggy ground splashed up on her expensive boots and dirtied her pants. The warden guffawed and Lei seethed even more of the humility.
She walked off more carefully, and soon his stomps followed her at close distance. How was she ever going to find anything with him making so much noise behind her? He did it in purpose! Wanting to trap her out here until she gave up, just because she didn't want to put a penny in his jar! Greedy old geezer!

She grabbed a rock and flung it in frustration, it bounced of the water with a dull smack and Lei paused to look with a frown. Something big and blue rose from the water, a quagsire!

Oww! That rock really hurt as it bounced off Quagsire's head. It rubbed the spot where Leilani hit, looked up, and gasped loudly as it noticed the trainer not too far away. What? And just like that, it fled!

"Ahahahahaha!" The warden guffawed loudly as the quagsire Lei had accidentally hit, splashed through the water and soon dived into the water a place where it was deeper, making it impossible to catch. "What a great start to your research! And what did you learn from that?" He made fun on her behalf. "You know Trofast, this might actually be a fun day after all," he grinned down to his growlithe at his side.
Lei grinded her teeth but raised her chin proudly, "it was just a quagsire, it's not of any interest to me," she said aloof and the warden stared at her, "you want me to believe you knew it was a quagsire before you threw the rock?" He asked sarcastically and Lei decided to not answer him. It would just be the start of a long winded discussion of what she could and couldn't do, and might end with him demanding she gave him some proof and herself humiliating herself. The current situation wasn't fun, but it could be much worse.

Lei noticed though, that the warden hadn't had anything to say about her throwing a rock at the pokemon, perhaps she could let out her frustration that way, she just needed to be aware that the pokemon didn't attack her as she was well aware the warden wasn't going to help her then.
She bend down to brush off some mud of her boots and sneaked a few rocks in her hand, before she stood up straight and walked off without a single glance in the direction of her watcher.

Not long after, something else moved in the murky waters, but much smaller than the last one. Lei scoffed at the sight of the wooper, the quagsire had at least been an evolved one and it looked at stupid as any other of its species.
The wooper jumped up on a tuff of grass and looked around searchingly, like it was waiting on something or someone, it had a peculiar ring of water leaves around its neck, and some pretty flowers hanging from the antennaes.
"Looks like they are going to party again,"[/i] the warden commented and Lei sent him a look that made it clear she thought he was crazy. A dumb wild pokemon having a party? As if she would believe such nonsense, pokemon were only smart enough to eat and sleep and get more food, and then follow orders so their moves could be most effective.

A pokemon was a pokemon and Lei be darned if she would stomp through this marsh without getting anything with her home, she flung a safari exclusive pokeball at the water and ground type.

Wooper just stood there and watched the ball soar right over its head. Curious, it hopped over and tried to eat it. Nope, not a berry. Yuck!

"AHahahhaahahhaahah!" The warden bellowed as Lei's pokeball flew in a nice pretty curve far over the wooper.
"WHAT?!" Lei exclaimed, that was just not true! That did not just happen, she never missed, NEVER! She was good at this, for Arceus sake. She glared at the warden, it was his fault that she had missed, he distracted her so she didn't do as well as she could.
A mature trainer would have realized it was still on her shoulders and that she would need to learn to be calm even in these situations as they could just as well happen during a battle, but Lei just let her frustrations out elsewhere.
If that stupid little wooper didn't want to act properly and get caught, now it was such common and stupid pokemon, she was going to make it. She stomped closer, as it was nibbling at the now broken safari ball, she was not going to miss this time! She aimed and then hurled the ball at the blue pokemon as hard as she could.

This time she did not miss, of course she didn't, it should have been impossible for it to have happened last time as well. Lei strolled over and tried to avoid the biggest puddles as she went to pick it up. The warden huffed and grumbled, he clearly had hoped she had failed again and amused him more, but she was allowed to catch pokemon, that was the sole purpose of this trip.

The pokeball was muddy and Ley tried to brush it off a bit before pocketing, she sighed, her designer clothes would be ruined when she came back from this, but she was not to let the warden hear her complain and think he was right and she had nothing to do here.
She went off in another random direction, hoping to encounter something more exciting than woopers and quagsires.

"What kind of research are you doing for the professor, wading around here and catching pokemon," the warden asked grunting, "usually you all sit out here for days and look at the pokemon and write notes and stuff."
"I'm not a researcher, I'm an assistant just doing what I'm asked to do," Lei answered coldly.

It seemed like Lei was destined to run into blue pokemon today, and squishy ones too. The one which moved around this time she saw out of the corner of the eye and her mind filed it away as another wooper, so she just continued without doing anything.
It was the game warden's awed gasped which caught her attention and she looked over her shoulder, she narrowed her eyes as she looked at the blue blob which looked back warily, and seemed to be ready to run at the slightest excuse. She studied it for a moment as she tried to figure out what was special about this muddy blue creature as her brain couldn't place its species right away.
Her eyes widened when it suddenly clicked that this was a ditto! Ditto was rare and hard to get, and this one was not the normal pink which meant it had to be a shiny!

She glanced at the game warden who looked torn, and she smirk. He surely would love to be able to stop her from catching this one, but he couldn't, although he could stop her from doing something which was not allowed in here. Lei glanced at his growlithe, who's eyes hadn't left her, it narrowed them coldly and Lei wrinkled her nose. Hadn't they been around she would have said to darkrai with their stupid rules of using only their ball and no battling, she would have made sure she got that ditto no matter what, but now she was forced to go by their rules.

The trainer took at step towards the ditto, who slid back several inches and Lei stopped, she knew from experience that these pokemon were hard to catch, and when she was stuck with safari balls she would have to make sure it stayed.
She kneeled as she had seen other trainers do if they wanted to be not threateningly to agitated pokemon and she pulled a biscuit from her pocket and unwrapped it, it was fresh from a bakery and she had planned on enjoying it as a snack on her trip, now it would serve a greater purpose. She broke it into several pieces and flicked a part of it to the ditto.
"Have you tasted something like this before?" She asked kindly and waited to see if it would take the bait. If it did, she would just need to figure out how to throw a rock or two, getting it bruised by a rock or by a pokemon battle shouldn't make any difference when it came to how the pokeball worked.

The ditto spun around and ran off a bit when Lei threw the bait, and the game warden chuckled pleased. Just as Lei thought she had lost out, it looked back and realized they weren't hunting it, slowly it crept back and took the bait. Lei smirked, it was working! She threw some more out, closer to herself and the ditto warily moved closer, snatching up the pieces of the biscuit and gobbled them down. Lei watched it closely, while she carefully picked up a little rock in the mud. When it was well distracted picking up some crumbs, she flicked her wrist and the rock flew through the air towards the ditto.

Lei wasn't the only one crossing her fingers, although while she hoped the ditto wouldn't run due to it, the warden was hoping she would accidently chased it off, so she didn't got home with such valuable and rare pokemon in her possession. She hadn't paid for this trip after all, if she had and therefore supported the Safari Zone and their work, he'd be fine with it. Then it would just have been free adverticement and more people being interesting in what they were doing here, and their preservation work.



(ooc: did you roll for if it fled or not? And just a note that safari balls are at 1,5 again, and when I check the catchrate I just go to the one we usually use and pick the corrosponding ball for that. Throwing another bait, and then a rock, using running shoes)
