"Burkes and Bentley?" Adrian squinted at his pokenav and shrugged. Apparently this place was semi open to the public and people mentioned that it was full of pokemon. The real quirk of the place had to do with guard pokemon or something? He scratched his head as he idly approached the gates, his ivysuar wandering happily at his side. 

It felt kinda rude to just wander around without telling someone he was here, so...well, he made to open the gate and do just that. He was expecting something or someone to jump out at him so he was a little on edge, alert and wary. Ready. 

Buddy was none of those things. She was cheerful as always, without a worry or care in the world. This was a nice pretty garden. Sure, they had just...waltzed up in the middle of the night, but that didn't matter, did it? 

(He'd scram if it was too late to wander in the grass or poke at fish with a fishing rod.)

Venturing into the private estate at a rather unusual hour, Adrian opened the gate and expected to be jumped on by a wild Pokemon. Well, at least not yet. While he was enjoying the garden under the night sky, they were soon under the eyes of watchful members by the garden gate. These garden gate Pokemon, while uncatchable, always like a fun battle.

A lone Dustox appeared from a tree, greeting Buddy mostly. "Hey there, you're new here?" It fluttered around and examined the Ivysaur. Then, it hollered back at the background Pokemon watching or half-sleeping. "Hey, we got a visitor!"

Then, it continued. "We don't usually get visitors at night, but we can play a simple game of Don't Wake Up the Fearow. Okay?"

Adrian startled when he saw the dustox. Was it going to be super aggressive or just...flutter there? He watched a little tense and suspicious, but did try to relax when all it seemed to do was flutter above Buddy's head.

"I wonder what it wants?" he mumbled.

Buddy looked up at the dustox, "How do you play, don't wake the fearow?" She wasn't all that interested in battling the dustox herself if that was the game, but there were other pokemon in Adrian's party who would probably love the chance.

As they spoke, Zag burst from his pokeball, and landed between them, "Game! I wanna play a game!" In his excitement, he knocked dirt up and at everyone, including the dustox.

"...You're not supposed to do that y'know," Buddy lamented. 

"But I wanted to plaaaaay," Zag whined.

"Shhhh, don't be so noisy. The game is don't wake the fearow, not wake up the whole house!"

"Oh, sorry!"

Adrian rubbed his face, "So, uh, dustox. Will you let us pass? We don't mean any harm, just looking around. Heard that guests were welcome or whatever here..." Maybe it wast he late hour...he really couldn't blame it if Adrian was coming up sus for the time of night he wandered in.

"We just need to be quiet, or the Fearow would scream at us!" The Dustox buzzed softly, trying to keep the tone low and quiet. "Now, it would be too easy if we both just stay quiet. The game is to make the other make too much noise or quit!" It teased, flapping its wings gently.

"Like this!" It flew closer to the Zigzagoon and fired a volley of poison stings from its mouth, but the normal type barely felt a scratch. Zig excitedly moved his feet around, kicking up some dirt that made the bug type winced.

"Hey!" It whispered and shouted. "That's not how this game works!" It exclaimed, wondering if it needed to explain the game again yet.

"Make the other make noise?" Zag asked, only to be rained upon with a volley of poison stingers. It took every ounce of restraint not to squeal in alarm as he ran around in distressed circles. Ooooowie. Ow. Ow. Ow! That hurt! He didn't like how much that hurt. Whimpering, he contemplated what to do next. This dustox was really big and strong and wasn't playing very nice. In fact, he decided he didn't care for this game much.

As he whimpered, Buddy stepped forward to intervene.

"You're so much stronger than he is," Buddy said. "So how about I help even the playing field." She didn't plan to do any direct damage, just give Zag a tiny edge to maybe come out on top in the game. She sprayed the moth with leeching seeds as Zag watched in large-eyed fascination. 

"Woah," he whispered. "Though, I don't think that will wake the fearow..."

"Not trying to," Buddy whispered back at her companion. "Just making it so that you have a better chance to make it wake the fearow instead of you."

"Thanks!"

"That's what friends are for."

"We're friends?!" Zag whisper exclaimed, wriggling with excitement. 

"We are," Buddy assured him. "Now, you can count on me, as your friend, to help you out in tough situations. I can handle whatever dustox has planned. And then you can swoop in and claim your triumph."

"Is that fair?" the zigzagoon pondered.

"Sure it is." Buddy asserted. "After all, I'm not going to be doing any direct attacks. That'll all be on you, Zag."

"Woah..."

Adrian found himself watching curiously, ready to sent out litwick to just, well, deal with this. He wasn't exacting this wholesome display between two of his pokemon. He supposed he could step back and just let the two have their moment. Bond and all that.

Yeah. That's what he'd do. 

Adrian shuffled backwards and looked around, adjusted his bag and appreciated the scenery. What else was there to do? At least without shouting commands to his pokemon who seemed to have this situation pretty well under control for the time being.

The Dustox watched the Zigzagoon and the Ivysaur chatted, but they whispering so it could barely hear them. "Hey, Ivysaur, are you joining the game too? Do you understand the rule? More Pokemon makes it more fun!" It whispered out loud, tensing its muscles at the anticipation of more players and the surprise of possibly waking up the Fearow.

Then, the Ivysaur fired a weird seed that exploded at it, making the Dustox tensing itself even more. "Ou! What is that thing!? This is not how the game works!" The bug buzzed softly, complaining to the new player who might have not understood the game properly!

"Oh, I'm not really joining so much as helping!" Buddy said cheerfully. Quietly. "We don't want to wake the fearow. And you're all big and strong, so Zag will have trouble not waking the fearow." She sent a rain of sleep-inducing pollen over the dustox's side of the battlefield in hopes of knocking it out. "So that means, everyone should be as quiet as possible!" And Dustox would be very, very quiet if asleep. 

And also far less likely to knock out Zag was they played this game.

"...Um, Buddy, how is this helping?" Zag would ask Buddy quietly. "If you put it to sleep...then it'll just win!"

"It will only potentially be asleep a little while. Long enough that you have a better chance of making it make a noise when it wakes. Like I said, I wanna make it as fair as possible."

"...It does look really tough..."

"Flicker would be best at handling this dustox, but since it's a game and all...a little back and forth is fine. As long as you don't get hurt while playing."

Zag wagged his tail a little, happy to have such a great friend.

"Okay, I believe in you! Heh. You're gonna totally make it sleep!"

"Haha, I am not that strong. That's why we're trying to not wake the Fearow!" The Dustox replied humbly when complimented of its strength.

The Ivysaur tried to cloud the area with a sleepy dark green powder, but the bug type noticed it just early enough to fire a String Shot at the Ivysaur, and flapped its wings quickly in the process to blow the sleep powder away. The Dustox buzzed confused at them. "Hey, um, I am not sure you guys are playing the game right now. The Fearow isn't that scary. It won't attack us." It elaborated, wondering if they're not playing the game right because they're scared of the Fearow.

"C'moooon Buddy, lemme play instead. I think Dustox is right. You're not playing right. You're supposed to like...tackle them or something." Zag insisted as Buddy SIGHED and tried to shower the Dustox with a little more sleeping powder before stepping back. 

"Very well, you can play. I think it's a little more fair now."

"Pffft if you saaaaay so." Zag giggled. "Alright dustox, I'm back!" He wriggled his striped body. Bouncy bouncy bounce. "I'm gonna like...um...tackle you, yeah." Wriggle wriggle. 

Buddy sighed, "You're not supposed to announce yourself."

"Why not? It's just a game."

"Because, it's a bad habit to get into."

"Even with friends?"

"I mean, they're not..."

"Wanna be friends, Dustox? We can be friends! And play games and more games and more games—"

"Zag...focus..." Buddy warned.

"Oh, yeah, right," Zag settled himself, braced to do that tackle thing and squinted a bit. Did Buddy put Dustox to sleep? If she put the moth to sleep than his question fell upon deaf ears and he'd have to wake the sleeping dustox to find out if they could be buds. If not, then, well, he'd need to make sure he didn't faint playing this little game.

Adrian scratched the back of his head. Looked around. Wondered if they were being quiet enough to not draw too much attention.

Buddy spread his sleeping powders again, clouding the sky with a dark green dust that would soon put the Dustox to sleep. Strangely enough, it managed to stay afloat without dropping completely on the floor. This would be similar to sleeping fish who would still sort of float in the middle of water, perhaps. Using this opportunity, the Zigzagoon eagerly switched in to try the new game.

However, the dosing Dustox didn't stay sleeping for so long, soon enough after the normal type took place of the grass type, the hovering bug type woke up again, yawning loudly as it regained consciousness. It floated back up, where it was before falling asleep. "Huh? Did I fell asleep?" It mumbled quietly

"Yeah, you did, you were reaaaaaally tired!" Zag snickered. Between the sleep powder and the leeching seeds wrapped around the dustox, the moth was looking weary. And even if the dustox attacked him again, the leeching seeds should refresh him a little. So like Buddy, he felt very confident he could 'not wake the fearow' before the dustox had to give up on winning. 

He bounced a bit in place, "So, so, I think I understand the game now. I'm suppose to make you wake the fearow. Like this!" After a little prep, he scrunched up then—BOING! He launched himself a the dustox and tried to knock it out of the air. 

As it was a fun game, he'd giggle once he landed and try to hit the dustox again. BOING!

Happy, bouncy Zigzagoon was playing around, still not taking anything seriously. Why should he? It was totes just a game and not like...a real battle right?

Buddy sighed and leaned against her trainer's leg. 

Adrian shook his head at the overly excited Zag who was leaping all over like a toddler hyped on caffeine and sugar.

"Where he gets all that energy, I have no idea," Adrian mumbled. His gaze turned to the house and he wondered idly if this battle would rouse anyone or if they'd end up roaming the garden like a couple thieves in the night. Guests were apparently welcome, but as he had wandered in kinda late...he wondered if that would leave a bad impression. Like he was a thief and not just a night noctowl looking to explore the garden and look for pokemon.

He even had a fishing rod. If being in the grass was too much, he could just...stand outside the gates by the water and try to haul a magikarp to shore. Because no matter the body of water, magikarp could and would be found. Ocean or pond or river or lake, the zubat of the seas was there.

But honestly, he was here for rumors of slightly...rarer things. 

Pokemon not easily found or were quite far away.

Adrian was very, very interested in such things. After all, the less time he spent wandering in the maze-like depths of some forest haunted by spirits the better. Adrian already knew his sense of direction was terrible, no need to test it against nature itself.

(He didn't dare go near Ilex yet. Not without the Hive Badge in hand. He felt so very, very far away from that goal, however. Like it was a dream or a lifetime away.)

He checked his nav and wondered if this place would be a good one to train for Bugsy. Grass and bug types were here mostly, right? And Bugsy's ace was that terrifying scyther that humbled many a rookie trainer that came unprepared, thinking the mantis would be easily overwhelmed by numbers alone.

Ig was very, very far from being able to handle such a bug. But maybe if he trained here for a few days, he'd be able to handle that big bug!

Reaffirmed that he was doing the right thing for himself and his team, Adrian glanced back at Zag and the dustox. He didn't have much hope the zigzagoon could knock out the hardened moth in a timely fashion, but hey, maybe that leech seed would do enough to give the raccoon more than a non-existent chance. He was having fun at least. Bouncing. Playing. Leaping and running. It was hard not to smile as he watched Zag just live and love his life to the fullest.

Adrian let himself smile.

The Dustox listened to the energetic and playful Zigzagoon's reply, tensing its muscle as it was trying to figure out if the normal type understood how to play the game yet. After barely hit by the fluffy mammal, the bug replied. "Yes, yes, you want to make the other person react loudly to wake up the Fearow, basically." Since these wild Pokemon haven't been in a library, the game would be like trying to make too much noise in a library. However, the Dustox's toughened defense made it very difficult for the Zigzagoon to lay a scratch on it.

"Now it's my turn!" The Dustox flapped its wings powerfully to scare the Zigzagoon, and then opened its mouth to fire a volley of poisonous barbs. Thankfully, the Zigzagoon wasn't hit nor poisoned, and with the power of the leech seed sowed by the Ivysaur, Zag's health was quickly recovered as if nothing happened!

Zag wimpered as he was peppered with poison barbs, but he expected it this time around. He made a small noise, but he wasn't alarmed. Buddy's leech seed healed him up too, meaning that the ache passed even quicker. Oh, so that was why Buddy did that! Now he understood! With a chitter of excitement, the little raccoon braced himself and launched again at the dustox, "Gonna make you wake the fearow!" 

He honestly wasn't likely doing much damage at all to the heightened defenses of the moth, but that leech seed put a timer on this game and he felt so close to victory.

Buddy watched, proud of herself. She was helpful~

Zag would land after his attack and whirl, looking up at the moth to see if they were going to exchange blows once more.

"Not if I go first!" The Dustox hummed excitedly, and flew forward toward the Zigzagoon and bit on his furs with its mouth. The bite was a strong one, but this was easily negated by the upcoming Leech Seed. Zag returned with a pathetically weak tackle, that was nothing compared to the Dustox's toughened defense. Then, the vines around the bug glowed green and sapped the remaining health toward the normal type.

Exhausted, the bug declared the game over. "Alright, I am tired. Game's over!" It then fluttered away. It wasn't the most exciting game of Don't Wake the Fearow it had played, but it was a game. It thought this game could have been... better, as this felt underwhelming tonight.

So, victory was secured.

Through a very drawn out and boring game of Don't Wake the Fearow for the poor Dustox on watch. 

Zag looked excited about his victory and promptly barged into Buddy, slamming into her side with enough force to tip her over. 

"Hey now!" Buddy scolded. "Careful. You'll hurt someone."

Zag giggled, "I wanna play more games. I wanna...I wanna hit stuff!"

Suddenly, the wriggly raccoon bolted into the garden, forcing Adrian to follow. He tried to return Zag, but he was agile as his zagged every which way. Eventually, he'd lose traction and slam into a tree, shaking it forcefully, send sending himself tumbling back. He shook his head, "Huh. That didn't hurt."

"What are you doing?!" Buddy cried out, worried for the zigzagoon that just slammed headfirst into a solid object at full speed.

"I...think I learned how to do a new attack!" Zag exclaimed excitedly as he hopped up, "Watch!"

And thus began his reign of terror against any small tree he could find. Adrian was just baffled as he watched this absurd behavior, and scratched his head. "I'm gonna get kicked out at this rate," he mumbled.
