With a final roaring cheer from Wren, Dante had beaten his bug-type adversary. "Every berry, every leaf, every forage-able. Hear this and learn it well!" He called in his tiny, might voice. All his trainer could hear was: "Wurrrrr!"
Wren began to rush over and apply medicine to their injured pokémon, but a radiant white light enveloped the fat worm. The silken strings that bound him seemed to weave magically around him, revealing a supple cocoon with threads protruding from it, and a ruby-red eye peeking out. The Wurmple had evolved into a Cascoon!
Wren continued in their quest to aid their pokémon from further poison damage. "Well done, Dante! I'm so proud of you!" They quickly applied a Potion and a Full Heal to their newly evolved bug-type, allowing the now forgotten Weedle to scurry away and tend to its wounds.
A satisfied hissing sound emanated from Dante, something shifting beneath the silken threads. He lashed out in front of himself, Tackling the air away from his trainer. Wren stumbled back onto their feet. "Whoa! Calm down, little guy. The fight's over!" The hissing happened in a segmented fashion. Wren assumed that he was laughing. "I think it's time to go home and get some sleep."
Before the little cocoon could respond, Wren returned him to his pokéball. Wren resolved to return to the pokémon center and rest for the night, and continue the search for Timmy in the morning with Ranger Nikki.

Maybe Wren just attracted mischief making pokemon. Or perhaps that was simply how humans interpreted wild pokemon doing their best to get by. But as they approached the welcoming glow of the pokemon center, Ranger Nikki waving them goodnight, they would see a lady playing an game of tug-of-war. One that, judging by the look on her face, she did not consent to playing! "That is not yours! Let go!" she snapped, pulling harder. On the other end was a meowth, who had all four paws dug into the cobbles as it tried to claim victory! And what was it they quibbled over, you may ask? It appeared to be a salami. There was a grocery bag tipped over nearby. A little common sense painted the picture well. The lady placed her bag down for some reason, perhaps to fix her coat or to adjust something within. And this little feline saw the puuuurfect opportunity to strike. It idled right up to the bag, grabbed the end of the salami it smelled and tried to bolt. But the lady managed to grab the other end before it could leave. Thus Wren walked up on their battle of wills!

Upon seeing the hectic situation, Wren fumbled around in their bag for Mischief's pokéball in order to help the woman secure her salami. "One more battle before I go to sleep, I guess." The trainer mumbled to themselves.
The golden Sentret emerged from his slumber, all curled up in his tail. His ears twitched as he heard the commotion. "Hmm?" "Mischief, use Quick Attack!" Wren urged, issuing the command. Mischief propped up on his tail and attacked, quick on his feet.

So focused on its conquest for salami, the meowth did not notice the approach of a new player. It shook its head and growled, paws scrambling against the cobbles, determined to get the upper paw. IT WOULD have the noms. This would be its reward! Yanking back its head, it managed to free the packaged deli meat from the woman and send her staggering. Triumphant, it made to run off, only to get slammed into by Mischief. <HEY! Get yer own dinner! Paws off mine, ya rat!> the Meowth spat, hissing as it swiped a clawed paw across the furry rodent's face. Mischief was knocked back, and the meowth adjusted the salami so that it could carry it from the side. Its mouth watered. Soon it would FEAST! This haul was way better that what it could usually scrounge out of trash cans. With a whoop of success, it tried to run off. AGAIN. "Stop that thief!" the lady cried, alarmed. With Mischief's heroic jump to slam into the Meowth, the Scratch attack it received in turn seemed to be about as severe as his own attack. Finally, a fair fight! "Even I don't steal from people, you mangy cat!" The Sentret snapped back, tauntingly licking his arm fur. Without his trainers instruction, he pounced from atop his tail to deliver a Scratch attack from above. The little golden Tanuki was light on his feet.
Wren felt a bit flustered as their pokémon was just doing whatever it wants. However, it was strange. Wren was going to tell him to use Scratch anyway, instead of Quick Attack. They wonder if he just knew. "Keep going, Mischief! You got this!" Wren cheered, subtly starting to lose their voice from all the yelling within the past couple hours. They tried to clear their throat so they could be present in the battle.

<Bah. Survival of the fittest.> The meowth growled around its prize. As it tried to escape, it noticed the sentret about to swipe, and pretended to scratch as well, only to duck down and slap the sentret on the back. Those claws of Mischief's raked across the meowth's flank. It hissed at the scrape but kept moving, unwilling to give up the tasty salami because some stupid trainer's pet couldn't understand it was winter and a cat had to eat. The lady fretted worriedly, picking up her bag of groceries, as if to prevent any other wild pokemon from gallivanting off with the contents of the brown paper bags. "Get that cat, sentret!" the lady cheered on, helpful even as Wren's voice started to fail them. The meowth didn't balk. It had GOALS and they all involved snaring down dinner as quickly as possible once it lost these losers. "You could have just ask nicely!" Mischief chirped, hopping back up on his tail to strike once more. Wren cupped their hands to project their voice. "Quick Attack, grab that salami!" They ordered. Mischief's eyes trained onto the purloined meat, aiming to grab the salami as he blinked out of sight.

<Ask nicely?!> The meowth hissed in disbelief. <Are ya soft in the head? Humans don't just GIVE us food because we ask nice. We gotta take it. They got plenty, anyway. What's one salami to them? It's dinner for the next few days to me. So just lemme have this, fuzzball.> It tried to escape but Mischief slammed into it again and the salami dropped. The theft was foiled! He whirled and growled. <COME ON! Give a meowth a break. Lemme have a meal, pal. Buddy. Friendo.> The sweet-talking wasn't said real switch. All acid and spit and thinly veiled venom. Mischief really shook himself from that last Growl. The Meowth had a point, he had been doing about the same in New Bark until recently. Talk about privilege. He faltered and backed away.
Wren could tell that the thieving Meowth was having a bad day, having been forced into a battle like it was. They were already feeling guilty about the other few pokémon their partners knocked out and made scurry away. If this one is hungry, I can get it something to eat at the pokémon center. They decided.
Wren scrounged through their tacky tote bag to toss a pokéball straight in the forehead-coin of the Meowth! "Sorry!!!" They yelped, despite the Meowth probably not understanding the apology.

Between Mischief and the Meowth's conversation and the sympathy from Wren, the human had decided to capture the feline Pokemon and rescue it from the streets, roaming and hungry. With a flick of a hand, or shoulder, the Pokeball sailed through the air and then landed on the opponent, hitting the Meowth in the head before sucking it into the capture device's pocket dimension. The ball landed on the ground as it wiggled once. Then twice. Then a DING! The Meowth can relax now in the safety of its Pokeball, and hopefully fed a nice warm and hearty meal by this kind-hearted human. Now, Wren could continue along with whatever he was doing. The lady cheered and came up to Wren as she saw the ball was captured successfully. "Thank you for that, stranger! It looks like the Salami was torn bad from this cat. I'll just get a new one. Thank you though for stopping that thief! I should get those reinforced grocery bags or something."

"That definitely sounds like a good idea. The wild pokémon around here can be pretty audacious, it seems." The enby trainer nodded, picking up the pokéball. As the passersby went back to what she was doing, Wren picked up Mischief with a spin, holding him proudly in the air. "Well done, Mischief! You're so strong!" They cooed, holding him like a baby as he wrapped his tail around their arm. Pokéball back in hand, Wren whispered to the sleeping Meowth from within. "Let's get you something to eat, little one." Wren entered the Pokémon Center a few yards away to a refreshing atmosphere inside. Lighthearted music played from old speakers, and was overall much more old fashioned compared to Galar's pokémon centers. Instead of the dressing rooms and pokéshops, there were simple curtains leading to lodging in the back, and the hospital classically centered inside. There were small refreshment and snack machines, though. First thing's first, though. Their team was tired and needed a quick heal and a meal. Wren approached Nurse Joy with a practiced charisma from working in customer service. "Hi, Nurse Joy! I'm pretty new to Johto. I know you guys offer meals for pokémon, but do you do the same for trainers as well? I'd also like to rent a room, if I could." ______________________________

When Wren first arrived in Cherrygrove, they were determined to assist the Thompson's in finding their missing grandson, Timothy. The youthful trainer may have become lost since camping, and with the help of Ranger Nikki the less seasoned trainer will find them now that the daylight is out.
Bushy-tailed and refreshed, Wren left the Pokémon Center with a full team and a full belly. The sun was shining in the late morning light, and the trainer went immediately to search for Ranger Nikki to follow up on yesterday.

As Wren stepped out of the pokemon center, bright-eyed and bushy tailed, and ready to renew their hunt for the missing trainer, they were greeted, not by Ranger Nikki, but by a very opportunistic Taillow. The little robin fluttered down from the roof of the center and landed on their head and immediately started to peck and tug at their locks of hair. <Good nest! Warm nest! This will be great for lining my nest with. Give. Give to me.> YANK! Oh dear. Not exactly the best way to start one's morning—a pesky bird getting cozy for the winter deciding that your head of hair made for the perfect nesting material. It wasn't even being gentle about it. Blue wings fluttered and smacked against the side's of Wren's head and face as it ruined any attempt to brush or style their hair this morning.

As soon as the newbie trainer exited the pokémon center, as the light shown in from the morning rays they were immediately attacked by the panic-inducing flapping of wings. Had they had more than half a second to react, Wren probably would have gone about things with more dignity. However, there was a dark-blue blur in their face tearing out their hair.
"ACK, GET IT OFF, GET IT OFF!" They yelled, reaching down to their belt for the nearest pokéball and chucking it in a random direction. They ducked their head down and dropped to their knees in the pokémon centers doorway. Arceus, this would be so embarrassing if the adrenaline hadn't kicked.
The savior whom emerged from the thrown pokéball was none other than Mischief. As the golden fur-ball understood the situation, he propped up on his tail to pounce and swipe a Scratch attack at the trouble-making bird. "Hey, what are you doin'?!" The tanuki chirped, landing back on his tail on the other side of his trainer as he came to their aid.

The pokemon simply was trying to make sure that they would find a perfect item to complete their nest. So it found the perfect substance, the woman's hair was perfect so it simply must have it for its nest. However, it seemed that the trainer didn't want the robin taking her hair. A screech came from the girl as her hands fluttered near her hair to shoo the robin again away from the hair. A pokeball was sent flying which caused the bird to back up a moment as a flash of light and a new pokemon seemed to come out.
A little racoon dog by the looks of it, as it cried out some at the sight of the new pokemon. A scratch coming near it and raking down its smaller body before a low growl would be the reply of the bird pokemon. <"A nest! A nest!"> it called when the tanuki asked it what it was doing. <"I need that for my nest!"> it seemed that the little robin was determined to get that hair or at least it would do everything that it could to do so.

With the Taillow extracted from their hair, Wren instructed the golden tanuki to perform another Scratch attack. "Good job, Mischief!" They tried to pat down their hair so it looks less like a huge mess.
The trainer was fully embarrassed, as this entire situation was causing a scene outside the Pokémon Center. They thought that as much as the Taillow could use their hair, rewarding it with hair after being attacked would just be encouraging that behavior. The trainer tried to swerve the battle away from the entrance to the building.
