"Dunno. Probably has something to do with the wormhole phenomena. Any of the pokemon we catch here, however, seem to lose the ability to make these barriers." Adrian said with a shrug. At least this strange pokemon was on the frailer side for a rock type, likely due to it being some kind of scyther variant. Scyther was fast and hit hard, usually preferring to drive its foes into a corner with relentless attacks rather than tanking hits. Which made Adrian wary. This thing knew swords dance and it would be so easy for this battle to spiral out of control. "Rio, use Double Kick!"

"It looks like its preparing for a sweep," Adrian warned with some alarm. "Rio! Double kick! Try to smash the last of the barrier, quick!" Now was not the time for risky plays, but outright brute force. The boosted evasion was bad enough but the boosted attack could snowball out of hand fast. "You gotta have the azumarill hit it with another aqua tail before it sweeps us!" Adrian could see a path to victory, but the path was narrowing every second this scyther was left unpressured and able to boost itself into untouchableness.

"Swee--ping us back to Johto?" Ethan asked curiously, as he hadn't heard this term being used on a Pokemon before.
Seeing the Kleavor's double team and Sword Dance, he knew that the opponent Pokemon was trying its best to not be defeated as much as he was. There wasn't much of an option to undo that Double Team, and in front of them were many more copies of these brown colored aggressive insect.
"Wavy, keep it up with another Aqua Tail!" He hollered out his next move. There was still a thin shimmer of that barrier left, and should his partner's Double Kick hits, then the next thing he would be hoping was also for the Aqua Tail to find the right original of the Double Team. This battle was getting tougher!

"...Another double team." Adrian swore, raking a hand through his hair as he returned Rio. He pressed his forehead to the ball, breathing in through his nose, calming himself. Think. He had to think. None of his pokemon could negate evasion... None of his remaining pokemon could handle being hit by this swords dance boosted mantis either. So he had to just hit fast and hit hard and hope that he just outright hit. He tucked the ball into his belt and withdrew a constant standby since he caught it, having proven useful in every raid he put it in. "Electrode, use chloroblast!" He threw the ball and the hisuian electrode emerged. The speedy electric-grass type eyed the situation and understood immediately what was desired.
With all these copies around...going boom was the best option.
It started to glow green with energy, before launching it at the kleavor copies encircling them.

Hurling a nearby rock and then slicing it, the Kleavor essentially created a Rock Slide using the environment to its advantage. This knocked out the powerful Tauros, and Rio was knocked out on the ground completely. Then, his Azumarill slapped the Kleavor's remaining shield one last time, knocking the shimmering barrier off. Now, with the weird strange protection off, the Kleavor was vulnerable again without the help of the mysterious barriers. As if that wasn't enough, the stony bug created more copies of itself to face them.
Hearing that his partner was going for an Electrode with Chloroblast, Ethan continued to cheer on his Pokemon. "Wavy, use Aqua Tail again! Try to find the right one by watching them!" This was kind of a tall order, but he believed in his Pokemon's ability to maybe locate the right Kleavor even with so many copies hopping about.
"I will find you!" the chirpy Azumarill cried out and began swinging her tail as water enveloped around it. She was ready to swing at one of the Kleavors, hopefully, the real one!

Somehow, by some miracle, the chloroblast hit. It slammed through the copies and collided successfully with the real kleavor. But in return, the kleavor slashed out with its axe arms and 'cleaved' through their pokemon with ease. Like a hot knife through butter. They needed one more good hit, but did his companion bring anything fast enough? Or durable enough? Could he eek out that last inch of damage needed to push past the finish line and secure victory? Or would this be their first loss?
"You've got this!" Adrian called out to his battling companion. "Just one more hit!"

The strange Electrode lower its head again, by rolling its round body down, and blasted a beam of energy built up it contained inside. The attack was kind of like a Solar Beam, but without the bothersome charging turn. The Kleavor was weakened, but not enough to knock the light out of it. As if that wasn't enough, the opponent went for Wavy, slicing at her with its axe-arm. The poor Azumarill was knocked out on the sand, unconscious and unable to make one last move. Then, the Kleavor turned around and also gave the Electrode a powerful slice. In two big and efficient slicing movement, the two Pokemon were down on the soft sandy ground, unconscious and unresponsive.
Ethan thanked his Azumarill's help, and returned the poor water type. The very next Pokemon he sent out could be decisive for this battle. With the opponent also down to their last health after that Chloroblast, he would have to make very important decision. Most Pokemon that he had trained weren't usually fast anyways, especially against these other-dimensionally tough opponent. Even if he did brought them along for the battle, they might not fare well facing any one of these.
He also didn't have much of a choice, since the other Pokemon he had brought along weren't useful against a partial rock type. "Well, this will make or break this battle. Come on out, Disco! Use Earth Power!" He turned toward his companion initially to respond to Adrian's encouragement, and then grabbed a new Pokeball to send into the field.
Hovering above the sandy ground, was an inorganic Pokemon with eyes all around the "head". The ground type observed the surrounding, making note of the many copies of the Kleavor, and the beach background. "This would have been a fun sand day if you're not here. Why do you have so many copies of yourself? You have enough of yourself to start a choreography. Are you going to start dancing or should I bring some beats along?" It voiced toward the opponent monotonously. Then, should an opportunity arise, it would shake up the ground with an Earth Power.

Flinch. The claydoll survived that blow and flinched. They weren't winning this, were they? No doubt if he had been able to hit, this would be over, because the kleavor was barely hanging on by a thread itself. So close. They were so close. But what could they do? Maybe...they could taunt the kleavor? Make it stop thinking clearly and answer their challenge? Or maybe it would just ignore them and smash the claydoll into the ground. There was no telling for sure.
But he had to try.
"Hey you! Your blades are lookin' awfully dull. I mean, you couldn't knock out the claydoll in one hit? Psh. Maybe you should sharpen them up since that last swords dance obviously did nothing!"
ooc// Adrian used...taunt?

The Claydol was hanging onto its last thread, its last silver of health, its last handful of sand. The Kleavor clearly wasn't listening to what the ground type was saying, as it hurled a giant boulder from the sky and slammed the rock on Disco. The clay Pokemon was smacked so hard by the rock's throw that it staggered, and wobbled on the air it was floating on as it regained its balance, concentration, and momentum. All the pink eyes on the Claydol closed their eyelids, and then struggled to opened it back up after the Rock Slide sent pain throughout its sentient body. A moment later, the Claydol was back on its feet again, hovering and glaring at the Kleavor with how many eyes that were facing that direction.
Ethan watched how his Pokemon reacted and then listened to Adrian's attempt to taunt the Kleavor. He knew as well that, with his last Pokemon floating, they wouldn't have a chance to defeat this Kleavor if the Claydol couldn't land a hit. He wasn't sure if the Kleavor could understand human speech either, but they could try!
Disco had the same idea as it blurted out monotonously. "You didn't like my comment? Why throw rocks when you can throw us some moves? You're not having fun on this beach aren't you? There's nothing wrong with a little dance and showing me your moves. The human said you know how to dance, but I haven't seen it, so would you like to show it again? Do all of you and your shadows dance together when you do it or what?" It asked curiously, but also calculatedly.
"You're doing great, Disco! We'll give it our best!" Ethan shouted. "Let's give it another Earth Power! Shake it, Disco!" The young man joined in on the taunt, but in a jovial way, so it wouldn't come off as rude. Maybe they could try this good cop bad cop thing but with taunting a wild beast in another dimension whose only crime was it was strong and tough!

They...they did it. They goaded the kleavor into dancing, but their last big hurrah was cut short as the earth power missed. Adrian felt his hope plummet. He swore under his breath. This...was not going to go well. But they tried. He didn't think the ploy would work more than once, but he supposed there was no harm in keeping up the bravado.
"Hm. Are you sure those blades of yours are sharp enough yet? I'm not quite so sure. And I mean, it is a really impressive dance. Maybe you could keep showing us those steps?" Yeah, that was cringe, but what else could he do?
