The night was a strange mistress. Birds roosted in their woven nests up high in the canopies overhead. Furry rodents darted still through the grass, as though their own excitement fueled them through the late hours of the night and well into the waking hours of the day. Bright fuschia bugs stared quietly between tall emerald blades, their striking appearances giving them away in the blink of an eye. When neither Freya nor the kid took any particular interest to them, they would turn back to the tall blades of grass and continue to chew cheerfully on them, eying the humans suspiciously. The kid nodded and bidder Freya a fond farewell before toddling off on his own down the very dark path towards New Bark. In a different universe, she would have been as unfit as the mother that allowed him to wonder off on his own by not overseeing his health and safety. In this world, full of mystical creatures that ten year olds traveled on long, arduous quests with all the time, this was but another normal occurrence and far from out of the ordinary. Something large and massive loomed in the shadows, it's strange growls filling the rather dead, quiet night air. The strange Pokemon stumbled in an odd, erratic pattern out of the tall grasses and from behind two large live oak trees. It spun in different directions, teetering unevenly as it waltzed about. It was young, with large, spiral eyes that blinked occasionally and looked around in mild interest at the strange creatures stumbling around it's home. Most of the Pokemon didn't walk on two legs like it did. What were these strange creatures?! Spinda would wobble towards Freya, stubby arms outstretched to try and grip her head by both ears to see if it was real or just a hallucination. "I've never seen a Pokemon like you before!" Spinda giggled. A Wild Spinda Appeared!Level 4. What will Freya do? Shiny? I0YY77gop_1-42Pokemon: (post gym) p_1-6 (rare) p_1-6 (level) p_2-8

Indeed, in this universe, if you were old enough to register with the pokemon league and get a starter, you were old enough to go on an epic journey across land and sea, with only your ragtag gang of wild animals with super powers that you caught along the way. Freya wasn't going to question the only status quo she ever knew, having grown up with the sort of freedom that such powerful companions provided. She waved the young man away, hoping he didn't start anymore fights with wild pokemon that just wanted to maul him...
"So, the missing fennekin is somewhere around here. I just have to find—" she turned and found herself facing an odd little bear. Freya was pretty sure she saw this creature in the guide, but it was indeed quite odd to see in person, wobbling haphazardly in the moonlight like a strange, possessed beast.
Then it addressed her.
She smiled.
Sometimes pokemon made that mistake when they realized she could speak their language.
"Because I'm not a pokemon," she said with a smile. "I am a human. What are you, I wonder..." As topaz eyes followed the spinda's reaching paws, not moving to prevent the wild pokemon from pawing at her leg in curiosity, a different set of eyes was also watching. Also felt the eeriness of the moonlight.
Star thrust a hand into the air, as if summoning some sort of alien magic to her aid, and a small red capsule appeared there. Slight of hand? Real magic? Who could tell under the blanket of night? Then with a giggle, she thrust her arm forward, watching as the pokeball flew towards the spinda, poised to try to catch it without a hint of confrontation.

The spinda jumped back, surprised that this strange tall creature was talking to it. It's eyes spun with glee as it heard this creature speak to it. A human spinda had heard of those creatures before but had never met one. So you are a human that's funny. The spinda then began to dance with Freya. This creature did not have a care in the world as it loves being under the moonlight and meeting new people. Star threw the ball with her magic. It spun as she controlled it to take the spinda by surprise. She was indeed the smartest of all. she was able to catch the spinda off guard. Before it could continue its dance however a red light engulfed it as a pokeball took its place. The ball began to shake once, twice, thrice before a audible click was heard ensuring the capture and new ally of both Freya and Star. The ball hit the spinda and without fight or grandeur, the little bear was caught. Freya knelt to pick up the ball, once more alone save for her own companion pokemon, all of whom were feeling a little strong for this area. Maybe it would be time to leave this area behind soon.
<The moon reveals what the sun obscures. Perhaps in the blanket of darkness will offer insight into a recent problem burning in your life?> Star suggested, dancing a bit, arms outstretched towards the twinkling little lights that bedazzled the sky above. <After all, flames are easier to seek when their light is the only brightness for miles.>
"Quite right, Star. Geeze, you're actually pretty smart, huh?"
<Am I smart or do I just know when to listen to what the world wishes to say? The earth whispers. The stars sing. You just have to open up your mind and quiet your presumptions.> She then giggled and began to cheerfully dance without a single hesitation or care. Freya found herself laughing softly.
"Okay, okay. Heh. You have a point there, friend. What does the universe say we should do to find this lost pokemon? The kid saw it and was bitten. So it can't be too far away."
Star twirled and then pointed in a seemingly random direction, <Not everything we seek is upon the beaten path. Have faith. Your fear will only blind you when amongst the shadows.>
"So, the pokemon is somewhere in the bushes and tall grass? Yeah, that tracks." She sighed and then started to wade into the grasses, pulling out a flashlight to help her see better. She didn't want to step on any poor little pokemon or trip over a branch and break her face. Star skipped and pranced, somehow making no sound as she followed Freya into the waist deep grass along the edges of the main path between the two towns. How, one could only guess, but she seemed weightless, little wings fluttering. Maybe it was some trick of fairy magic or perhaps the rustle of wind through leaves and branches muffled the lightness of her tread. Freya, however, was not silent. Her boots crunched on dried plant life as she pushed through tangled whispers of grass, gloved hands parting dense clumps that might otherwise bite into her palms. "Now...where or where would I be if I was a missing little fire fox...?"

As Freya continued the hunt for this missing pokemon it was not long before it could be seen that a struggle took place in the bushes. As she drew closer to the seen of the fight she heard a yelp of a pokemon. Looking to the sound Freya could witness a yellow and red fox being attacked by a strange looking rattata. Unlike most rattat instead of the normal purple fur this one had black fur and stood on two legs. Sniffing the air it immediately turned to Freya eyes darting all around before challenging Freya to a fight. Shiny? lSvYDgwTp_1-42A level 7 Alolan rattat is attacking a Fenikin what will you do? 1-42

Finding the fennekin was startlingly easy.
It mostly involved wandering deep enough into the grasses to hear fighting. Freya shifted her flashlight in hand and her breath hitched as she spied a certain furry form in conflict with another. "The fennekin! And...a very weird looking rattata..." Pause. "OH! I wonder if it is one of those regional variants, like wooper?" She knew the mudfish pokemon was native to johto but looked very different from the ones she saw in Paldea (though the johto ones were native to the rice paddies in the village of Kitikami where she grew up).
Suddenly, the rat turned on her with venom and spice and she wasn't quite sure why, though she could only assume it was because the rat was naturally more aggressive? Hard to say..
So she didn't!
"Star, I'm going to try to get these two properly separated. You, uh, have fun." She tossed a couple empty capsules to the clefable, who blinked down at them with a smile.
<As fate would have it, you may very well join our journey today, little one,> Star said cheerfully to the furious rat. <Now let me see you dance!> She bounced and twirled to gain the rattata's attention, then started to throw pokeballs at the rattata, as if to both distract and potentially catch. What a fun and silly game!
Freya watched and waited for the rat to fully fixate on Star before approaching the fennekin. Thankful for her gift to talk to and understand pokemon, she knelt, "Hey there, little friend. I'm here to help. Your humans are looking for you. I know it's scary and dark out here, but I know how to get back into town and won't hurt you." She offered her hand, hoping the fox didn't just bite, but prepared to bodily pounce on the fennekin if it did. "You've had a lot of fights today, yeah? That kid chased you around and this rattata is biting at you. Be nice to just relax again, yeah?"
Her voice was gentle, her body language matching. Her topaz eyes were hooded as she reached for the fire-starter.
"I understand if you don't fully trust me, but as you can see, I know your humans and don't plan to try to battle or catch you unless you're really looking for a fight." Could she pick up the fire type or was she about to be burned? Who could say. She'd only know when it acted at last.

The Fenikin looks down at Freya before speaking. You know my trainer? Please take me back to them. This route has been so scary. You seem kinda nice never met a human who I could talk too. With it's peace said the Fenikin jumps into Freya's arms. Freya stays at the tree while star begins it's distraction techniques. This way look this way. Star laughs as she begins to dance and toss the ball at the strange rattata. I will never be your friend I will destroy you. The little rat yells out before charging at Star. As it goes to attack a pokeball makes contact. A red light asorbs the rattata into the ball which drops to the ground.it rolls and hops for a minute before a click is heard. Star then picks up the ball before heading back over towards Freya. Here you go I managed to catch it without much fuss.

The angry rattata was captured rather swiftly, which meant that the little fox was safe from further harassment. It leapt into Freya's arms, startling the trainer, but she smiled down at its sudden trustfulness. Perhaps it was thankful to be found after the kid chased it and harassed it? Maybe it was just done exploring and was spooked by the dark? Who was to say for certain?
Petting the fennekin, offering it comfort, she turned to Star, who was already picking up the pokeball.
"I think we've found pretty much everything to be seen here. And fennekin! We should head back towards town and figure out where this little one's trainer is staying." Freya was surprised by the lack of bugs she had seen on this beautiful, blooming spring day. But hey. Who was she to complain?
The missing fox was found, and all was well, barring disaster. Said missing fox was also incredibly soft. That fur was silky and plush, perfectly touchable and made her want to bury her face in it and breathe in that naturally smokey scent.
<Let us take our new friend home. Oh, and venture onward to the fennekin's destiny.> Star giggled. <The moonlight is quite bright, it leaves the path glowing with promise.>
"Huh. I suppose you're right." As they emerged from the trees to return to the dirt path, there did seem to be a slight glow to the trodden path. Not in an ethereal manner, but in way the hardened dirt caught the light that dappled through the sky reaching branches that danced above them. Dew clung to the shorter grasses and smooth stones. It gave everything a slight sheen and sparkle.
Beautiful.
Freya gave a fond smile, her topaz eyes gleaming like gemstones as she turned her face up towards the moon. A warm breeze tousled her hair. Winter fair skin was even paler in the cool light, the warmth of summer days yet to deepen her complexion for the year ahead.
"Onwards," she murmured.
Star danced ahead, pokeball still clutched in hand. She sang to herself a soft song with words without meaning to most. It was joyous yet yearning, like being far from home but knowing that your ultimate happiness laid ahead of you, just within reach. Freya hummed along as best as she was able, hips swaying.
The journey back to New Bark didn't feel quite as long this way.

And the rattata needs added to my profile. I will self-update the pokeball and the rattata. Make sure for non mods you post in the updates thread. Another note, while actions like what happens in a battle (hitting foes, etc) is what a mod does, try to avoid the thoughts of trainer pokemon. Continuing on the road returning to New Bark Town, Freya was in awe of the night time in spring. Dew clung onto plants, some gathering in a bigger water drop from gravity and the shape of leaves. The brilliant moonlight illuminated on the dew and then reflected in a sparkly manner. She was enjoying herself and singing, but this also caught the attention of lurking Pokemon under the night sky. Something in the grass rustled, shaking a plant's resting dews into the ground. A purple blur moved around, and appeared in front of the human. Had it not clicked its teeth and squeaked, the jolly Freya would have stepped on the poor Rattata! The purple rodent darted a distance from itself, growling to intimidate and warn the human. It could have easily ran away, but enacting revenge was the option it had chosen. The human would pay for nearly breaking its spine!

"Woah! Oh my goodness! Sorry about that. I didn't see you there, little one." Freya adjusted the Fennekin in her arms, petting the fluffy fox. "I'm just heading back to town, there's no need to...oh...okay. You want to battle, don't you? Um..." Her arms were full. "Star, could you—?"
She figured the Clefable would moonblast it or something to shoo the rattata from beneath her feet. Instead, the fairy grabbed a ball off her belt and tossed it with a giggle.
"Hey now!" Orthworm emerged, a little confused about being summoned again.
<The flowers bloom around us. The moon is high and bright. Can you not feel it? The way the wind whispers. It beckons. It breathes... Let the stars guide your path, my friend. Go. Divert this rattata's destiny from its current trajectory!>
<...Uh huh... Whatever ya say...> The orthworm said dubiously, rolling its eyes. With a wriggle, orthworm lunged for the rattata. <Sorry about this. Just need you to clear the road. Go on. Shoo.> Wriggly legs flailed a bit to make itself look bigger. Shoo. Look how huge and impressive it was. Be afraid! Be very afraid. Then scamper back home to your nest.
"Star, you really shouldn't do that..." Sigh.
<So certain? The path ahead is clear now. Go. Is it not our duty to make sure you can keep traveling forth to your destination unhindered?>
"I mean, I suppose..." Freya looked conflicted, but she rounded the ratatta and orthworm to continue up the path, glancing back in time to see the clefable yeet a pokeball at the rat. Adrian did say that she was quite the handful. Gentle, yes, but curious and dauntless. She seemingly feared nothing and was constantly getting into the strangest situations.
She glanced down at the fennekin she found and just had to laugh a little, "I see New Bark just ahead." She returned to the board with its listing, scanning the notice for an address. "Now where do I go to return you...Hm. Okay, I think I have it." She looked over her shoulder, "Star. Orthworm. When you're done, catch up, okay? I'll come find you if you don't. Just going to take our new friend here home."
And thus Freya went searching for the right house. Hm...this one? Could this be it? She knocked.
"Hello? Are you the one who put up the notice for a missing fennekin?"

When the person answered the door and the fennekin in her arms perked up and leapt into theirs, she knew she had found the right person. Fenfen was home and reunited with their trainer. She was a little startled when they pushed berries into her arms, but she smiled anyway, thanking them and wishing the pair well. With a final wave and a pat of the fluffy fox, she bid them goodbye, hoping that the little fox didn't get harassed by anymore overexcitable kiddos.
With that done, she yawned and stretched, heading back towards the route, reuniting with her pokemon. Star held a pokeball and she sighed, taking the capsule in hand.
"You are a handful, little lady," she told the clefable with a tired smile. "Man, I'm beat. I dunno about you, but I am beyond ready for a nap. And thus her adventure testing out the island amulet concluded.
