Such a rude young woman. The elder sage continued to pray, centered by his faith and his mental fortitude. However, the Sacred Sprout was felled by another flurry of pecks, unable to withstand the Rowlet's fury. Hoothoot cried out defensively, fluttering in alarm, its sights tearing from the rowlet back to the cyndaquil. It wanted to protect the Sacred Sprout but it had been given a divine mission. And that was to purge the flame bringer from this place. With a heavy heart in its chest, the hoothoot leapt at the cyndaquill as it started to look perky again, and no longer so wounded. It rain down sharp pecks like the rowlet did to the 'sprout. <This is my duty. I must banish the flames that would burn this place down. Begone!> It chanted. Sage Battle

The potion seems to be more than enough to give Cyndaquil the extra push that it needed to continue the fight. The fiery mouse-like Pokémon swiftly jumped from Essence's arms and back onto the battlefield. It glanced over at the Rowlet, nodding its head as if it is showing gratitude to the Grass-type standing up for it. <I will let let anyone put out my flame! I may not be able to use a fire move yet, but that doesn't mean that I can't defeat you!" The Cyndaquil shouted out at the Hoothoot.
"That's enough chattering! Let's finish this battle once and for all, please! Cyndaquil use Tackle! Hedwig use another Peck!" She called out to the two Pokémon standing on her side of the room. The Cyndaquil and Rowlet nodded their head in unison as the two of them prepared to make their attack. Hedwig jetted towards the Hoothoot with her glowing beak as it extended in size from the stored power. The Cyndaquil had managed to jump on Rowlet's back. It struggled a bit to keep its balance at first, but soon figured out how to secure itself on the back of its flying friend. The Cyndaquil would wait for the perfect moment to jump into the air, then dive down to hit the HootHoot with a powerful Tackle, if successful.
"Well, I'll be... You might not be able to use a fire move, but you're on fire right now Cyndaquil. I can see the your passion and determination burning through your flames," she pointed out with a smirk, Empress jumping down in excitement as she cheered on her teammates.
Hedwig used Peck on Hoothoot.
Cyndaquil used Tackle!

<You and your pitiful blows will not end me, fire bringer> the hoothoot challenged. It did cast a nervous glance over at the sacred sprout, catching sight of it moments before the great sage returned it to a ball. The elder tucked the ball into a sleeve, gaze focused on Essence rather than the battle at hand. Why wasn't its master more impassioned?! Did he not see that the fire still burned!? That they were still at risk? "You know your duty," was all the old man said and hoothoot focused on the cyndaquil again. Right. It lunged forth to keep raining down pecks, only to be assaulted by the rowlet. It was a clustered chaosed for a few seconds. The two birds each pecked at a different foe, uncaring for their own safety as the cyndaquil pushed back with another weak tackle, those flames on its back burning a little brighter with each blow. Stronger. It was indeed getting stronger—little by little. Sage Battle

Despite Hedwig and Cyndaquil's fancy display of moves, their attacks were not enough to take out the Hoothoot. The duo was managed to inflict a great deal of damage to their opponent. Unfortunately, the Cyndaquil did not go unpunished. Essence frowned a bit, watching the Cyndaquil becoming weaker yet again after she healed it with a potion a couple of minutes ago. Either the Cyndaquil's level is a lot longer than the Hoothoot or the Hoothoot is almost too much for the Cyndaquil to handle. Then again, it does not help that their opponents aren't interested in attacking Hedwig at all. Essence took noticed of the Cyndaquil's flame glowing brighter, indicating that its ability Blaze might be in effect. However, how much help would it be if the Cyndaquil does not know a fire-type attack? "Cyndaquil, if you could use a fire attack now, that would be great!" she called out to it. Again, the Cyndaquil lowered its head in shame.
"Yeah... I didn't think so. We have no choice but use the same moves again to finish off our opponent. Hedwig use Peck and Cyndaquil use Tackle!" She ordered the two Pokémon. The Rowlet and Cyndaquil both nodded their heads before dashing off in the direction of their opponent, hoping to knock it out. Meanwhile, Essence prayed that the Cyndaquil will be able to push through and not faint from any damage that the Hoothoot may inflict on it.

No fire came. But with that combination of blows, the hoothoot fell, having been unable to purge the flame-bearer from the tower. It fell and was promptly returned to its ball, leaving only Elder Li standing there in his yellow and indigo robes. He folded his arms and nodded, as if coming to understand something. Then, he knelt before the cyndaquil, reaching out and placing a hand on its head, "You are very tenacious. I can see the flame which has been denied to you burning now within your belly. If your quest was to find that sacred flame then you have found it, young one. So I must advise you to leave this place to fully understand your gifts, for you will find no more understanding here." And then he rose, facing Essence. "Those who climb the tower do so most often for enlightenment. Perhaps this will be a guiding light for you on your journey," Elder Li said, his arms unfolding as he pulled a disc from his sleeve. "It is the TM for flash. Decades ago, before recent installations of lights, it was impossible to navigate caves without this. Times have changed. But tradition lingers for a reason. Now. Go. There is no further to climb."

At last, Hedwig and Cyndaquil were able to take out the sage's final Pokémon. A sweet victory indeed, now the Cyndaquil can on with the rest of its life. Essence half-way listened to sage's words. She was more so interested in the blinding white like that engulfed Hedwig's body. A small smirk spread across her lips as she watched her Rowlet's body undergo a powerful transformation. Hedwig let out a loud screech as the glowing light faded and her new form was revealed to everyone around her. A majestic and sinister Dartrix soared above them for a moment before gracefully landing on the floor next to Essence. "Dartrix. Not too bad. All of that hard work really paid off today," Essence smirked, nodding her head at her Dartrix as she accepted Hedwig's new appearance.
Meanwhile, the Cyndaquil nodded his head at the sage's words. Finally, the fire mouse Pokémon had earned the sage's respect. The Cyndaquil soon felt a fiery sedation inside of its body as if some sort of power has been restored deep inside of its soul. The Cyndaquil then glanced over at Essence and her Pokémon, taking noticed that its "new friends" were making their exit. The Cyndaquil let out a loud cry to grab their attention before running towards them.
Essence came to a halt upon hearing the Cyndaquil call out to her. "What is it now, Cyndaquil? We helped you reach the top of the tower. Our job is done here. We must move on," she explained to the Fire-type. Cyndaquil shook its head as he spoke to Essence, not that she fully understood everything that it is saying to her. However, she was able to put two and two together to figure out that the Cyndaquil is requesting to join her. "You want to go with us? This road isn't an easy one, but if you're adamant, then you can come with us," she explained, grabbing a Poke Ball and tossing it at the Cyndaquil.
Hedwig evolved into Dartrix.
Hedwig did not learn Synthesis.
Cyndaquil joined the team.
