Having completed his third Alolan Pokemon trial in the Dark Cave, Shinya was feeling pretty damn good, as he left Violet City behind and caught a bus to the National Park. The time had come once again for what may have been the biggest event in the entire Johto region. The Bug Catching Contest. And as a Bug type specialist himself, Shinya was more than pumped for this event. But more importantly, he was eager to add a brand-new Bug type Pokemon to his team. Preferably a new one that had been brought in from the far off Paldea region. As things stood, the green-haired trainer still didn't have even a single Paldean Pokemon to show for all of his efforts, and he was looking to change that during the season's contest. And to win the contest itself, of course.
And so, after taking a few days after arriving at the National Park to allow his Pokemon and himself time to recuperate, Shinya ended up sleeping in on the day of the contest. Still, he wasn't worried, heading straight for the tall grass fields after waking up and having some late breakfast with his Pokemon. Just as he had done during the previous Bug Catching Contest, Shinya stood before the tall grass fields of the National Park with his trusty Joltik on his right shoulder, grinning his usual grin. "Well now, looks like we're a little late to the party, Joltik. But hey, the important thing is that we showed up. So, ya ready for this?" The Team Skull grunt asked his Pokemon, and she replied with some very high levels of excitement and enthusiasm, jumping up and down on his shoulder. "Oh yeah! I'm beyond ready for this, boss! Let's get in there and find us a...it's called a Nymble, right?!"
Indeed, the Pokemon Shinya was most hoping to capture during this season's contest was a Nymble, the Grasshopper Pokemon. Normally only native to Paldea, until they were brought to Johto to make the Bug Catching Contest even more interesting. Shinya had no idea whose idea that was, but he wanted one for his team. And today, he was feeling lucky, nodding at Joltik's question. "Yup, you got it, Joltik. Somewhere in this tall grass, there's a Nymble waitin' for us. It doesn't know it yet, but it's about to join Team Skull. All we gotta do is find it and recruit it. So, let's get it on." With that, Shinya marched right into the tall grass, as both he and Joltik kept their eyes peeled for any signs of Nymbles leaping from the tall grass anywhere around them. "Yeah! Let's do it! Nymble, come out and play! Come out, come out wherever you are!"

The first Pokemon Team Skull encountered during this season's Bug Catching Contest might not have been what they were looking for, but it was still quite the find. As Shinya and Joltik ventured through the tall grass, things suddenly started getting hotter. However, this was a heat that Shinya knew very well, wiping some sweat from his forehead, then looking down at the grass a few yards away to see that a wild Sizzlipede had answered their calls. "Woah there! A Sizzlipede?! They're here too?! It looks just like our friend, boss!" Joltik was the first to comment on this development, staring down at the wild Radiator Pokemon with all four of her eyes widened with surprise. Shinya was surprised too, but only for a brief moment, getting his grin back not even ten seconds after discovering this rarity of the Bug type world.
"Nah. This guy doesn't look a thing like our Sizzlipede. Our boy is stronger, and his flames burn WAY hotter than this guy's. Still, I'm sure there are a lot of trainers who'd love to get their hands on one of these fire bugs. It may not be a Nymble, but we can still use this, Joltik. So, go on. Give it a taste of your Thunder Wave and be careful. This may not be as strong as our boy, but it still looks easily capable to dealin' out a pretty strong Flame Wheel." Shinya spoke to the Attaching Pokemon in a calm and collected tone of voice, giving her some orders and advice, and reaching for a Sport Ball at the same time. "Righto! I've got this, boss! just leave it to me!"
Showing no fear, Joltik skittered down off of Shinya's shoulder, moving out in front of her trainer to meet the Sizzlipede head on. Although the wild Pokemon held the advantage, neither she nor Shinya were about to back down and let such a rare find get away. So, pouring as much power as she could into it, Joltik let loose with a strong Thunder Wave, hoping that the resulting paralysis would prevent Sizzlipede from dealing her any damage, as well as prevent it from escaping from the incoming Sport Ball. "Nicely done as always, Joltik! Now, Sport Ball, get it!" Using all of his strength, Shinya tossed the Sport Ball in his grip right at the wild Sizzlipede, watching as the Bug/Fire type got sucked inside and the red and white orb started shaking.

Thunder Wave had done its job, but unfortunately, the Sport Ball didn't. Of course, that didn't exactly come as a surprise to Shinya, but it did cause his grin to waver a bit. "Tch. Tough guy, huh? Yeah, I figured as much. I did train one of your kind, after all. I expected no less outta ya." The Team Skull grunt paid the wild Sizzlipede a compliment, withdrawing a second Sport Ball from his bag at the same time. "But if ya think for a second that we haven't got more to offer too, then you're wrong. So, let's give this another try, shall we?" Knowing full well that he'd get more points for not harming this Sizzlipede, Shinya opted for another Sport Ball, rather than giving Joltik another command, throwing it right at the Radiator Pokemon. "Sizzlipede, you're comin' with us! Whether ya like it or not!"

Once more, Shinya and Joltik looked on with bated breath, waiting to see if their attempted capture of the rare Bug type Pokemon before them would be a success or another failure. Fortunately, it seemed luck was on their side this time, as the Sport Ball stopped shaking, let out a "ding" sound, then transported itself to Shinya's PC. Upon witnessing this outcome, Shinya's grin returned, as both he and Joltik were quite pleased with this outcome. "Yes! That's a heck of a capture for Team Skull, Joltik! Nice job!" Very happy to be receiving her trainer's praise, the Attaching Pokemon skittered right back over to him, once again taking her favorite place upon his right shoulder. "Thanks, boss! That wasn't too hard! So, think we can win this contest with this Sizzlipede?! Huh?! Huh?! Do ya think so?! Do ya?! Do ya?! Do ya?!"
The Team Skull grunt chuckled a bit at his Pokemon's enthusiastic reaction and questioning, then proceeded to give said questions some thought before answering. "Hmmm...Perhaps. That Sizzlipede was a pretty damn rare and strong catch, and we caught it without hurtin' it too. Still, we can't forget why we came here. Our Nymble is still hangin' around here somewhere, and we've still got four chances left to find it. If we do, it might not be worth as many points as the Sizzlipede we just caught, but as far as I'm concerned, gettin' some new comrades is worth more to me than winnin' first place in any contest. So, c'mon, Joltik. This contest ain't over for us yet." Having given his answer, Shinya continued to venture around the tall grass in search of a wild Grasshopper Pokemon, while Joltik eagerly awaited their possible future encounter with said grasshopper.
OOC: I'll leave the Sizzlipede's stats blank. After all, if I end up keepin' it, it's just gonna go to someone else at some point or another anyway. Shinya's already got one of his own, ya know.

The Bug type duo's second encounter was one they had seen plenty of times before, so of course, it didn't excite them anywhere near as much as the Sizzlipede before it did. "Hmph. Just a Venonat this time? Easy out. Joltik, use Thunder, alright?" Shinya asked the small Bug/Electric type on his shoulder in a nonchalant tone of voice, figuring that a single Thunder attack would be more than enough to get this obstacle out of their way. "I'm all over it, boss! This shouldn't take long at all!" Joltik said with a nod, then leaped right off of Shinya's shoulder, locking all four of her eyes on the wild Insect Pokemon at the same time. What happened next was a massive amount of electricity being released from Joltik's tiny body all in one big burst, poised to strike down the lone Venonat before her.
OOC: Thunder used on Venonat. Running Shoes used if need be.

Just as Shinya thought. One Thunder was all it took to reduce the wild Venonat to a fidgeting ball of fluff, laying in the tall grass with its bright red eyes growing dull. "Too easy. But hey, a win's a win." The Bug type trainer said with his usual grin and a tone of confidence, while down in the grass, his precious Joltik nodded her little head in complete agreement. "You said it, boss! Don't worry about me! I'll stay down here for now! It'll make our next encounter go even more smoothly!" Joltik was already raring to go for their third encounter of the competition, and Shinya made no attempts to talk her out of it. And so, Shinya and Joltik continued to venture through the tall grass of the National Park, still searching for a wild Nymble to call their teammate.
OOC: Just for the record, that Venonat was only Shinya's second encounter of the contest. He's still got three left. Thanks.

For their third encounter of the competition, still no sign of any Nymbles anywhere near Shinya and Joltik, but they did come across an ambitious young Venipede hoping to get some advice out of them. This turn of events came as yet another surprise to the Bug type duo, as they exchanged some glances before turning back towards the wild Venipede. "So, ya wanna be tough like us, huh? Okay then. I like your attitude, so here's a few tips for ya. First off, ya gotta have the right attitude. Ya can't let anybody, or anything intimidate ya or tell ya what to do. And if those around ya don't like that, then that's too damn bad for 'em. When the world turns its back on ya, ya gotta turn your back on the world right back. Do ya feel me?" Shinya waited for the Centipede Pokemon's response, then continued with his advice session.
"Secondly, attitude is all well and good, but ya gotta have the skills and power necessary to back it up too. Trust me, ya don't wanna be one of those people or Pokemon that's just all talk. Ya wanna be the best and baddest Bug type around? Then you're gonna need power like this. Show 'em what I'm talkin' about, Joltik. Give 'em a Thunder attack now." Although Shinya did genuinely give the wild Venipede some advice, he was also still rather chaotic, ordering his Pokemon to strike down said Venipede with a powerful bolt of lightning. "Yes, sir! Right away, sir! You got it, sir!" Joltik happily and excitedly complied, sparking up another powerful Thunder attack, sending it all towards the Venipede that stood before her and her master.

After a powerful thunder attack, Venipede leaves Shinya with newfound hope and inspiration. It promises the Skull Grunt that it will become the biggest and baddest Venipede there ever was. Anyone standing in its way had better watch out, or at least it promises to give its all to this quest to make them watch out!

As they watched the wild Venipede leave them with its head held high, or as high as it could go for the ground-bound species, Shinya continued to grin, feeling a sense of pride and accomplishment. "Ah, it does my heart good to see a future troublemaker in the makin'. I just hope that if someone catches that Venipede, it'll be someone who'll treat it right. Just like yours truly." The Alolan trainer boasted of his own particular talents and skillsets, to which Joltik nodded rapidly in full agreement with her beloved trainer. "Yeah! Yeah! Yeah! Every aspiring young troublemaker deserves a trainer like you, boss! Someone to help them nurture that attitude and show them just how much fun it can be! And speakin' of fun, we should get back to our Nymble hunt! C'mon! C'mon! C'mon!" Shinya chuckled at Joltik's antics, nodding at her, as the two set off once again, refusing to waste their last two shots to find and capture a new recruit for their team.
