Apparently this dolt didn't understand sarcasm or mockery. Did she honestly think he was from Unova? Tch. Defeating her would be a cinch, because clearly she wasn't bright enough to handle a pokemon battle. And he was superior for it! Kicking some sense into this air-headed numpty would be the easiest part of this whole charade—once they had the experience from this fight, they could leave this bimbo behind as she remembered how breathing worked. Silver kept his spiteful train of thought to himself as he eyed the pair of pokemon and decided on his next move. His plan of attack. Chikorita didn't know any grass moves yet (unfortunately), but since she was clearly the superior pokemon, he trusted that she would win regardless! He wasn't about to loose to this brainless chick. Seriously, who let her go outside? Girls were all the same. Stupid and annoying and always running their mouths when nobody cared about their opinion. "Aval, show them why you're clearly the better pokemon," Silver sneered. The little grass type preened and met the squirtle head on. They were pretty evenly matched. The impact sent the both of them falling backwards, the blow rather glancing. "Tch, you can do better than that!" The two Pokemon were evenly matched when it came to speed, and they were making about the same damage. However, Aval had Growl, which could quickly turn the odds in her favor if she used it. Not a problem! All Opal had to do was make sure that didn’t happen by having Squirtle use Tail Whip occasionally, and at worst the two Pokemon would draw. She was okay with that! Sure, it didn’t prove that Opal was a competent Trainer, but Silver wouldn’t have been any better.
So all she had to do was tell Squirtle to use Tail Whip-!
“Good job Squirtle! Use Tackle again!” …Or she could just try to brute force it. Yeah, that… that didn’t at all make her look like a total newb. Nope. Not one bit.
It seemed as though Opal wasn’t very good at learning lessons. That, or she was simply assuming things would work out because she felt she knew what she was doing… to be fair, maybe she did. That being said, simply throwing Tackles at the Chikorita wouldn’t prove Opal any smarter than Silver thought she was… which wasn’t at all.
Though, to be fair, she didn’t really care all that much about his opinion of her.
She did, however, take offense at his harsh words to the little leaf dino he was “training”. “Hey, don’t be mean,” Opal chastised with an annoyed expression on her face. “She’s a new battler, and your form of “training” was throwing rocks at some adorable rodent Pokemon. She’s doing her best!” Opal then gave the little Chikorita a smile. “Don’t listen to that grouch, Aval! You just keep on doin’ your best!”
…And now she’s trying to encourage the Pokemon she was trying to beat? …Sure, that makes sense… --- Notes:: Squirtle used Tackle!

Silver scoffed, "Being mean? You call telling a pokemon they could do better, mean? You're not just stupid, but you're so soft-hearted that I'm surprised you're not crying whenever a pokemon gets hit in a battle." He looked at the chikorita, who had narrowed his eyes and thrust his own chin up in the air at the comment. Aval LIKED Silver and his no-nonsense attitude. He wanted to prove he was better than that silly squirtle and win this fight. Hardly his fault that his opponent couldn't appreciate true strength! The little plant dino, upon hearing the call for tackle, ran forth to meet the squirtle head on. "Chika!" Aval cried out as they met, once more trading glancing blows. She huffed, eyes narrowed. Silver tutted and Aval nodded. Again. But do it better next time.

Once again, the two Pokemon collided into each other head first, causing the turtle to wince and grab a hold of her head with her two hands. Okay, she wasn’t really sure how well this was going to go right now. If the two continued to Tackle each other, sure, maybe the two would just knock each other out, but it seemed all too clear that neither one of them were getting the edge on the other here. Maybe, just maybe, this Trainer would ask her to do something to get the edge off of-!
“Use Water Gun!”
What?!
Well… actually she happened to know that attack, and… well, to be fair, this was her first ever battle, so who honestly knew? Maybe a Water Gun would work? So, the beginner Water-Type sucked in her breath before letting loose a spray of water at the Chikorita to see what would happen. Who knows, maybe this Trainer had a plan!
…Opal didn’t, really. She was just getting sick of using Tackle over and over and decided to change things up. It was clear she was winning, so it wasn’t like it was a mistake to do this, right?
--- Note: Opal gets bored of repetition easily... Also Brooke used Water Gun!

"Using water gun on a grass type?" Silver drawled. "Oh goodie, Aval will sure enjoy a nice bath on this hot summer day." He rolled his eyes. Though it was true that the water gun was more intense than a sprinkling from a squirt bottle. Aval lunged forward for another tackle, clearly ready to keep up the pressure, even without an order from Silver to do so. This little grass-dino was driven to impress. To prove itself. It wouldn't be knocked down or knocked out. Not before it showed this turtle why it was the superior pokemon between them! With a battle cry, Aval met that water gun head on and knocked into the squirtle. THUNK. Who would give up first? Who would change their strat? Who would get a critical hit at a key moment? It was impossible to tell. "That's right, Aval, keep it up! Show that you're stronger." Trainer Battle Weather: Clear [attr="class","qkt-bkgd"] [attr="class","qkt-wild-pkmn"] Aval LV 5 HP 57% [12/21]

A grin found its way on the teen’s face. If her suspicions were right, and they were rarely wrong, then it didn’t seem like Water Gun did any less than a Tackle would… Even if a Growl came from the Chikorita, it wouldn’t make a difference. By all accounts, even without a Grass-Type move, Aval should’ve clearly had the advantage over Squirtle, and while that would probably be true if she encountered this boy in the future, that simply wasn’t the case here.
No… if things went the way Opal thought they would go, Squirtle was going to quickly turn things in their favor soon enough.
The teen kept an eye on the level of damage Squirtle had taken after the Tackle… no, not yet. She wasn’t ready. But Opal didn’t regret using that Water Gun… she learned a lot just from doing that alone. There was obviously the chance that Squirtle wouldn’t have known the move, but she lucked out, so what was there to worry about.
For now, it was back to the back and forth Tackles, as this time the Squirtle barely managed to keep herself from falling onto her back. Boy, wouldn’t that be unfortunate… Squirtle best keep the pressure up, too.
“Alright, use Tackle again, Squirtle!”
The turtle nodded at her Trainer’s seemingly random call for attacks, but what the turtle didn’t know was that Opal was simply tapping into the Pokemon’s one real advantage here. Sure, it was bad for Silver that his Chikorita didn’t know a Grass-Type move, but there was one tool neither of them were thinking about as the two Pokemon were whittling away at each other. What were their abilities?
Because if Squirtle’s was Torrent, then Aval was in for a surprise soon… --- Notes: Wait does... Opal actually have a plan? Oh, and Squirtle used Tackle.

Silver studied Opal and Brooke like someone who didn't really believe his own eyes, full of disdain. "Why are you even wasting time on that weakling?" He asked with a scoff, "there was a reason I left it, you know, and sticked with Aval even though it doesn't have any type attacks yet." The chikorita's leaf dropped a bit guiltily and it sent a worrying glance at its trainer. "You'd be grateful that it is so, or we would have wiped the floor with you by now," he added coldly and Aval nodded its agreement eagerly. Silver smirked after a moment, "oh right, you picked it because there were no other options, wouldn't you wish now that you had your pretended former team with you now? There is no doubt who has the better pokemon in this battle!" Aval puffed out its chest and looked like it was about to burst from pride. "Tackle!" Silver snapped when Opal gave her order, the physical move were the better option for the both for now, soon the grass type would beat the water weakling and it would grow and prove that Silver had chosen correctly. Aval was of the same meaning as it lunged forward and tensed in preparation of colliding with Brooke, it had so much to proof, not only to its new trainer, it didn't dare to think about what would happen if it disappointed him, but also to the rest of the world. So many times it had been rejected by new trainers because it looked soft and sweet, and they wanted something cool, or something they thought were more powerful. A few had shown interest but then it was because it was cute looking and it doubted it would ever see a battle with a trainer like that. Now it had finally found someone who was serious about training it and they would teach the whole world about what it could do! The two pokemon rammed into each other and both collapsed on the ground, as if they had run straight into a wall. The battle was beginning to wear them down and they both were panting, but none of them seemed to be ready to give up just yet. The Squirtle was knocked back, squinting her eyes shut as she panted. Opal took no heed of the words that were spewing out of Silver’s mouth, but Squirtle was starting to lose what little confidence she had. Unfortunately, she didn’t know what Opal did… but luckily it seemed Silver wasn’t catching on either. She was taking a real gamble with this… even if she managed to get Squirtle within range, there was always the chance that the fact that it was resisted would outweigh the advantage Torrent gave them.
“Almost there,” Opal whispered as she held onto the confidence that was slipping out of Squirtle’s grip. “Don’t give up Squirtle. We’ve almost got it. We’ll show that jerk what you're really made of, type match-ups or none!”
The Squirtle continued to squint with uncertainty at the Trainer, but she’d gone this far, so it was probably for the best that she kept going. She was scared of losing, but it had already hurt badly enough, it wasn’t like running away now would prove anything. Squirtle relaxed a little bit, and nodded, running at the Chikorita, mimicking the other Pokemon’s tenacity in not waiting for Opal’s command. She squeezed her eyes shut, trying her best to throw everything she had in this tackle…
…It wasn’t the damage she would deal this round that could turn the tide, though. What mattered here was the damage she would receive. ---

"Don't give up! Believe in the power of friendship," Silver mocked in a patronizing sing-song voice. "Just give up already. That weakling doesn't have the power or the drive to be worth anything. Once Aval learns razor leaf, that turtle wouldn't even last two seconds in his presence." The chikorita felt a swell of affirmed confidence in his chest. Right. He was strong. Silver understood him like nobody ever before. He wasn't just some cute little weakling who was helpless and powerless, but a strong pokemon with the ambition to carry his team to the ends of the earth. The chikorita growled and lunged forward, seeking to ram into the squirtle again. The pair collided once more with a crash, both stumbling back and swaying. This long, tedious battle was wearing them both down. It might be a matter of who hit who first at the very end...unless that torrent plan worked out. Hopefully it worked out... The Squirtle tumbled back once again, and Opal decided it was time. She would be lucky to take even one more Tackle without fainting, and honestly, the teen wasn’t any more eager to lose than Silver was. Both Squirtle and Chikorita could barely stand straight at this point, but Opal wanted to prove something to Silver: Squirtle wasn’t useless.
With that in mind, Opal looked over at Squirtle, who looked about ready to use Tackle again. She had to put a stop to that quickly.
“Squirtle, wait,” she called out, causing the turtle to turn toward the Trainer. “Use Water Gun, full power!” It was at that moment that the Squirtle seemed to sense that… maybe Opal was right. She wasn’t totally confident in the decision, but there was no time to waste.
Turning toward the Chikorita and glaring, Squirtle sucked in some air and let out another stream of water from her mouth. If Opal was correct, this Water Gun should’ve knocked the Chikorita out and then some… of course, she had been wrong before. - - -
Notes: Squirtle used Water Gun! Her health is at the less than 1/3rd range, so Torrent should work now.

Unfortunately, her calculations were a little off. While a normal water gun was like a harsh watering from a jet hose...a torrent boosted water gun was...about the same, except the flow was a little more consistent. If one of them was a little higher or lower level, then maybe the difference would be noticeable, but chikorita's grass typing showed itself clearly when she was hit by that blast of water...and shook it off, flicking droplets everywhere. He was panting harshly and recklessly he threw himself at the squirtle again, knocking his foe onto his back, where they both tumbled to the ground, exhausted. "Aval. Get back up," Silver commanded. "You're stronger than that weakling. So get up." Avail did as he was told, wincing a bit. The squirtle was in just as bad shape, clinging on by a hair. Silver made no motion to heal the chikorita, though perhaps, if his opponent did...they would have the edge over him and his ego. After all, he seemed to acting like he thought he could win on pure brute strength alone. "So, that was full power, huh? Pathetic." “Tch…” Opal squinted an eye shut as her risky plan seemed to fail. It had appeared as though Water Gun was doing as much as a Tackle would, so she thought Torrent would even things out, but Chikorita’s resistance was too much. Still, both Pokemon were barely hanging on by a thread. This next attack needed to hit first, otherwise Squirtle would lose. It didn’t matter which one, Squirtle could win if she hit Aval first.
“Squirtle, quickly! Water Gun!” Opal shouted, knowing full well that her chances of winning the battle were slipping from her fingers now. The Squirtle glanced at her rather warily, trusting the Trainer’s judgment less now, but still did as she was told. What else was she meant to do? The turtle certainly couldn’t come up with any better ideas.
So a stream of water was sent in the Chikorita’s direction as quickly as the turtle could, but would it be enough? Opal in her recklessness didn’t even consider using a potion on Squirtle either. She had one with her from her Travels in Unova, but she didn’t have any sort of interest in using it. The young Trainer was known for battling this way: she wanted to prove to the Trainer she battled that her Pokemon were the best, and giving them potions in the middle of a battle felt like cheating.
Both Opal’s and Silver’s pride were clouding their judgment, but only one could stand victorious, right? ---
Notes: It appears as though Opal and Silver have at least one similar flaw in their battling style... Never the less, Squirtle used Water Gun!

Aval remained faster than her adversary. Without some sort of tactic to help switch the roles around, even with the marginal difference in speed, Silver was well aware that his Pokemon would keep up her advances and easily thwart her enemies with her speed. He smirked, those burning grey eyes glaring at his opponent with devious intentions. “Give up?!” Silver snapped, eyes quickly scanning the scene to peruse the damages done. “There’s no way you can win!”“Chikorita, Tackle!” The words were cold can calculating. It sent the quadrupedal plant-based sauropod speeding through the tall grasses in a headlong charge towards Brooke. “I won’t fail you!” Aval promised, afraid of what that could mean for her. She just had to hit her opponent first. That’s all, nothing more or less than that. One good slam into the bright blue turtle’s side should be enough to send Brooke sprawling backwards through the tangle of grass and weeds, rewarding her the win. Right? Something ensnared the young Pokemon’s legs, pulling her back in that moment. She turned, confusion setting in, only to notice an old log that one of her back legs crashed straight through. The old, rotten plant matter crumbled in odd places, sucking the foot inside and trapping her momentarily in place as she kicked and screamed to break free. “Aval, hurry up and do as I say! You can’t let some dead plant hold you back!”Aval growled in frustration, “I’m really trying!” She was, as she promised, though it wasn’t enough to help her break free in time. Brooke immediately seized the moment, her head lowered, and rammed into Aval’s side. It helped the small sauropod break free from her entrapment, though it was entirely too late. Aval wavered, sneezed, and fell on the ground in a tired heap. Silver grumbled, recalling his Pokemon before marching over to Opal with a finger pointing at her chest. “Whatever. Tch. I don’t even care that a weakling got me this time. I was a fluke. It won’t happen again.” Some funds were dropped on the ground before Silver hightailed it down the open routes in a hurry to get away. Opal defeated Silver! At the sight of the Chikorita collapsed on her side, it was clear that Opal, more specifically Squirtle, had won the battle, much to Silver’s frustration. Luckily for Aval, the Chikorita wasn’t blamed for the failure, and instead it was blamed on a fluke. For the first time since they initially met, Opal glared back at Silver as he quickly made his exit. Was she mad at her? Well, not for anything he did specifically… but there was one thing that bothered her: he was right. He probably would’ve called any loss of his a fluke either way, but that didn’t make it any less true in this case. If Aval hadn’t tripped over that dead plant, facts were facts, Squirtle would’ve fainted and they would’ve lost. She didn’t prove anything in this battle, and the only thing she could take away from it was that at the very least Silver knew it wasn’t the Chikorita’s fault that he lost. By all accounts, she should’ve won, but the field seemed determined to allow Opal to win, and it felt… so cheap. After a performance like that, could she really blame him for thinking she was full of crap? Opal let out a sigh, and as if it never happened, a smile was right back on her face. Did it matter what he thought? No, it didn’t. Opal knew the truth, and only she knew what she was capable of. She wasn’t much on the side of a thinker, and she wasn’t about to let this edgy loser change what she already knew about herself. In any case, Silver was long gone. There was nothing she could do about saving Aval from him, especially since she didn’t really seem all too eager to leave anyway. She seemed desperate to leave the lab, been there way too long. If it made Aval feel any better, of the Pokemon she was aware were choices, if she hadn’t already picked a Grass-Type, she definitely would’ve picked Chikorita. Of course, that was probably very little comfort to the little creature now, and in any case, this battle pretty much made the choice for her. Opal brought her attention to the Squirtle, who’s consciousness was just barely hanging by a thread, and quickly started looking around for the turtle’s Pokeball. Did… did Silver still have it, or was it lost somewhere? Well, it wasn’t like she could afford looking for it here. She needed to get the turtle some medical attention, otherwise she was in trouble. Opal picked the Squirtle up, and as she squinted an eye open, the turtle seemed to glare at her. Hm… that was odd. Most Pokemon were impressed by her willingness to take risks. It was the only way she could gain the respect of her Snivy, but this just seemed to annoy the Squirtle. Hm… maybe she didn’t appreciate that the win was such a fluke? “Aw, don’t be like that, I’ll get you some help, okay?” Opal tried to assure the Squirtle, but the turtle stuck her nose in the air, causing the teen to roll her eyes. What to do now? Well, she got… half her task done. It was probably best for her to head back to the lab now. The young teen turned toward the direction she came, weakened Squirtle in tow. She decided that today was a success. It wouldn’t make her feel better to see it as anything else. --- Notes: Opal is heading back to the lab to show the result of her work. If I need to rp getting her supplies, I can keep going, otherwise, I think it's okay for this thread to end here. Also, here's M & M TandemausName: M & M Gender: Genderless Level: 1 OT: Opalesence "Opal" Whitmann Moves: Pound, Bavby-Doll Eyes Ability: Pickup Nature/Personality: Impish Nature. M & M are an odd little duo of a single Pokemon. The two are almost always in sync, and hate being away from each other. They are always causing mischeif wherever they go, and since they're two heads as one, it's hard to keep them from causing that mischeif. It's hard to tell the two individual mice a part, so Opal calls them Mickey and Minnie. The one with the pants print is Mickey, and the one with the shirt print is Minnie. It's just easier for her to keep track that way. Word Count: 599
