"You done?" Adrian would ask as the siblings finished their baskets of chicken fingers and fries. Both the kid and his teen sister nodded and he walked them to put the baskets away. Marci followed close behind, along with Ace. Adrian was ready to ask the pair where they should start looking next for their mom when a cry broke out behind them.
"SAM! Evvie! My babies! There you aaaaare!"
Adrian turned to see an older woman—fashionably dressed with frazzled hair and a couple of shopping bags dangling from her arms—running towards them. Sam beamed and waddled his toddler way up to the woman, "Mommy!"
"Oh Sammy baby, my baby boy. I was so worried snookums. Are you okay? You have a bruise and dirt on your face." She looked up and instantly suspicious of Adrian who quickly flashed his badge.
"Hello ma'am, I'm Officer Hartt. I found your son and daughter earlier today alone and being...cornered...by wild pokemon."
She whipped her attention to Evvie, who looked sheepish, "You were supposed to watch him! Why was your baby brother ever alone?!" What followed was some expected maternal scolding before she turned to thank Adrian profusely for helping reunite her with her children. Apparently she had indeed gone shopping, expecting the teen to watch the toddler while she stepped into the shop, and she had been searching for them ever since. They kept passing each other like ships in the night, unable to cross paths.
Eventually, he would say goodbye to the trio, tiredly sighing and oddly enough...missing them just a little. It was quieter...but perhaps that was better. He had done his duty and ensured the children were safe with their parent, as well as prevented a robbery, all on his day off.
But before he could get too pensive, he received a text.
Apparently Freya had changed her mind about charging ahead to the next city and wanted to meet up to talk while they were both in town. Adrian shrugged and sent back a text in agreement. Why not? Though he did wonder why she was suddenly hesitating...
A fact he learned more about when he saw her.
----
"What did you do to yourself?" Adrian asked as they headed down into the Goldenrod Tunnel together, the full moon rising high above the city.
"I...sorta...kinda... almost ran into a wild pokemon wild racing Arcanine on my bike and then fell off trying to avoid said pokemon. Scraped myself up pretty bad... I can't really bike or a long distance on this leg until it heals." Freya admitted, rubbing the back of her head.
Adrian just shook his own head, "So, you wanted me to bring Teddiursa with us to train at midnight...why, exactly? Shouldn't you be resting?"
"Well, for one, I'm already missing Teddi," Freya pouted, before pulled out a book from her bag. "And two...I've been doing some research. Tonight is a full moon, which is a rare opportunity for us to try something that hasn't been done in centuries." Pause. "But first! Teddi has to evolve into ursaring! So we need to do some training. Get on that, mister."
Adrian just rolled his eyes.

Adrian handed Freya Teddiursa's pokeball and her topaz eyes lit up. She held the ball close to her chest, gaze fond. Close behind them followed Adrian's Ace, who held the cleanse tag secretively in a claw, her eyes peeled for danger.
"Y'know, with all the research you did for me while raising Teddiursa, I learned a lot," Adrian said after a while. "She's a surprisingly strong pokemon, even in her first stage, when equipped with certain coverage moves."
"Hardly surprising! They're small and cute, but strong pokemon. Highly underrated, even in Paldea," Freya argued.
"Like Marill?"
"Even moreso, I'd argue. In Paldea, Azumarill is very popular for tera raid dens, but I cannot think of the last time I saw someone training a teddiursa to its full potential." She turned to Adrian. "They're special pokemon. She...is a special pokemon. And I hope we'll be able to uncover that tonight." Freya used her free hand to dig in her purse, withdrawing a small box. "This is peat from Sinnoh, harvested from a recently discovered site that dates back over 400 years. In lore, a pokemon called Ursaluna roamed the peat bogs of ancient Sinnoh, given supernatural strength from the full moon."
"And you think this peat block and tonight's full moon will—?"
"Unlock Teddi's full potential, yes! We're not in Sinnoh, but if her DNA holds the ancestral knowledge to evolve, then if we create the right circumstances, it could happen, even here in Johto! Like how we learned that Nosepass and Magneton evolved in certain caves charged with magnetic energy, and that energy could be replicated anywhere with a thunderstone!"
Adrian found himself smiling faintly at Freya. She was beyond excited, clearly hyped up on the idea of awakening Teddi's DNA and seeing a living legend with her own eyes.
"Okay. We will give it a try."
Freya grinned and bumped his shoulder, "Alright then. Let's get training."
The pair walked for a while until, inevitably, they encountered a rather sparky magnemite. Adrian huffed, "How many of these things are in the tunnels?"
"You've seen a lot of them?"
Adrian freed the very magnemite he had on his person at this moment. It blinked at Freya, who snickered.
"Okay, I guess you have seen at least one or two previously~" Freya lifted Teddi's pokeball and gave it a toss, "Alright Teddi, show us what you've got! Use close combat!"
The little bear emerged ready to fight.
She growled and lunged for the floating foe.

As the magnemite was battered away, teddiursa began to glow. Freya clapped her hands and Adrian paused to watch as well.
"I knew she was close to evolving! I could feel it in my bones! Look at you Teddi! Well...I guess she isn't really Teddi anymore... Ursa?" Freya paused her excited ramble to just grin and admire the beauty that was evolution. From a freshly hatched baby, she had raised this pokemon to this point. It was a proud feeling. It filled her up to the top and swelled in her chest, warm and overwhelming.
The tiny bear morphed and shifted, her form enlarging greatly, transforming from a tiny little teddy into a mighty, hulking bear with powerful claws and a scowling face. She looked around, clearly revved up and ready for more fighting.
"Always so passionate about battles. Evolution hasn't change that," Freya said with a damp voice and a smile. "Adrian, let's go this way. There is an eating area this way with access to the street so it has a glass ceiling around the stairs up. It's supposed to be really pretty."
Adrian followed her, Ursaring sulking behind them, growling and prowling for wild pokemon to beat up.
It didn't take long to reach the plaza that Freya spoke about. No doubt during the day it was bustling with people looking to grab a bite of lunch and didn't want to sit in the dark or weather the outside. They even decorated the area with benches and a little fake waterfall that housed fake fish and some ornamental plants to give the full outdoorsy experience.
"You can see the full moon from here. Peeking through the fog," Freya declared. She turned to Ursaluna and Adrian, holding out the peat block. "Okay. Let's try to work a miracle." And she promptly opened up the door leading outside and started to spread the peat on the ground. "Ursaring, come over here. Maybe roll around a bit?"
Adrian snorted, "Seriously?"
"You have any better ideas?" Freya sassed and Adrian held up his hands. Mouth. Shutting. He looked around, eyes open for any wild pokemon that might wander over to investigate this odd ritual. —Word Count: 000 | OOC:

Freya and Adrian both stopped to watch Teddi roam around the freshly laid peat. She sniffed and snuffled and even licked the odd dirt, leaning down to all four paws to investigate the curious substance. Adrian thought it was such an odd way of approaching evolution. What did a full moon and a block of peat have to do with anything? He didn't voice his skepticism to Freya, who was watching with absolute rapt attention. As if she could WILL the impossible to happen.
A minute passed and he could see her start to wilt, her certainty wavering. Her hands shook a bit. She couldn't just...accept failure. She just couldn't. Was she was misguided? Who was she to think she knew more than scientists. Maybe Ursaluna was lost to lore and—
The moon peeked through the fog, its glow brighter and clearer than before. It cast its ethereal glow down upon Ursaring and the bear looked up, as if basking in it. The ring on her chest began to glow—stealing the breath of the humans observing. The glowing ring expanded to consume her whole form and slowly, surely, they watched a long lost evolution re-emerge. Her form became denser, bulkier, hunched over rather than erect. And when the glow broke, they laid witness to a pokemon that had not been seen in centuries.
"Ursa-luna," Freya breathed.
"You...were right," Adrian echoed.
"We did it!" Freya cheered, hugging Adrian briefly before rushing up to Ursaluna and hugging the big bear, "Oh my goodness, you look so beautiful! Ursaluna. How do you feel? I wonder if you learned any new moves..."
Occupied as she was with cooing over Ursaluna, she didn't notice the gastly floating up behind her. Adrian did, and without much thought, sent out Marci to intervene.
"Hey, keep the gastly from uh...spoiling the moment," he suggested to the ground type.
Marci nodded and started to throw rocks at the ghost as Adrian prepared an ultra ball. —Word Count: 000 | OOC:

"...Y'know...you have a much closer bond with Ursaluna than I do," Adrian murmured. "I'm not sure she'd be...happy with me." His smile was wry as Freya turned to him. She frowned back at him, a touch confused where this conversation was going. "You've also done a real good job looking after Star. She's getting stronger and seeing so many more things now that she is traveling with you. I'm...not sure if she'll want to be cooped up on the ranch in the near future."
"What are you saying exactly?"
"...How about...you keep looking after Ursaluna. Maybe...forever?" he held up a hand when Freya started to protest. "I'm not exactly good with...people... or emotions or whatever... but... I could tell you were crying when you dropped her off with me. And you're just over the moon about her evolution. She is important to you."
"I can't just take her," Freya protested. "I promised to train her and I did. I always knew that I'd have to return her in the end. I'm not a thief, she's...I'm just proud of her." She looked around for a moment before an idea struck. "I know. A trade. We can trade, and you can watch after a pokemon for me while I watch over Ursaluna. It would be more...fair. And it wouldn't have to be forever either! I want what's best for Ursaluna and maybe one day that means going back to you, same with Star."
Adrian watched as she pulled a ball out of her pocket and offered it, "This is a pokemon from Paldea known as Tinkatink. They're often found around ruins. A friend back home said that he found an egg one day after setting up camp and when it hatched, he didn't quite know what to do with her. So he sent her to me since he knows I'm far from home..." She smiled. "I know you'll take good care of her. Just as I'll take good care of Ursaluna."
She took his hands into hers and placed the pokeball into his palm.
Adrian slowly nodded and handed her Ursaluna's pokeball.
Freya turned back to Ursaluna and went back to praising her.

Adrian's attention was suddenly whipped around to a noise maker. Oh, an electrike! He had been looking for one of those! He lost a manetric while in the safari zone on a ticket he won at a raffle a year ago, and ever since he had been eager to find one again. He had heard electrike were in these tunnels, but this was the first one he'd seen. There was no way this little yapper was getting away.
Unbeknownst to him, he had a stowaway in his bag. A tiny little pokemon that tucked herself between the berries and herbs in the pockets of his bag when he left the ranch. So when he rummaged around for some pokeballs to use on this electrike, she was practically shaken out of her cozy hiding place.
Adrian didn't see her as she floated down in a twirl of petals, so tiny that she was almost invisible to the eye. Just a bit of debris on the wind. She stared at the electrike with wide eyes and very quickly used a little fairy wind to whisk herself back up and latched onto the bag, clinging onto it for dear life. Nope. No battling for her today!
It was for the best probably, as Adrian had plans.
"Byte! Use psybeam," he called out, throwing a ball and revealing his porygon2.

The sparky yapper was both yappy and sparky. It lunged forward and bit Byte with sparking fangs and paralyzed the artificial pokemon with one hit. Okay, low odds but they could push through. However, as the porygon2 prepared a psybeam, the yapper lunged again, landing another thunder fang to flinch out his pokemon. Adrian was floored. He had used fang moves plenty of time with his own pokemon and never seen a secondary effect pop off. And this little yapper both statused and flinched him. How...how dare!
He was floored. Gobsmacked. Just...baffled.
Adrian rubbed his face and the shocked expression that he wore. Er. How to proceed? Well, he still wanted to catch this menace, even if it was making that process hard. Adrian sighed a long suffering sigh and called Byte to him, checking the Porygon2 over. The poor pokemon was all stiff and twitching, the spasms caused by the paralysis. It had no muscles to speak of, but no doubt the electricity did something to its internal make up to cause this glitching out.
He sighed and motioned at the Electrike, "Okay, just try to get a good hit in, use psybeam." Byte sluggishly tried to comply, smooth limbs whirling as it focused its energy towards the yapper. Hopefully it wouldn't get paraflinched into oblivion because that would just be embarrassing.
Freya finally looked up from Ursaluna to see what was going on and cocked her head, "Is the cute puppy giving you trouble?"
"..."
She snickered, "It is! I mean, given all the angry things that electrike is saying, I'm not surprised."
"How can you even tell?"
"I understand her, duh," Freya replied with an eye roll.
"Oh...right. You can do that," Adrian acknowledged dumbly. He forgot about her special talent. "Well tell it to calm down!"
"Her and I don't think she wants to talk. I am pretty sure she is all fight and bite right now. I don't know what you did but she is sure angry," Freya teased. She pet Ursaluna's head. "Hm...have you tried snacks?"
"I don't want to be electrocuted."
"Good luck then!"
Adrian SIGHED and started to dig in his pockets. Okay, Maybe it would be easier if he just CAUGHT the darn thing. Sure his odds weren't great but if that thing could paraflinch him, then surely he could catch it in one ball, right? Look, a greatball just for you.
