I'm bein' followed by a moonshadow Moonshadow, moonshadow Leapin' and hoppin' on a moonshadow Moonshadow, moonshadow ~ Cat Stevens
Oak was journeying through Union Cave, a famed landmark known for its stunning beauty and unique subterranean environment. Situated between Route 32 and Azalea Town, the cave was a well-lit tourist attraction, frequently visited by trainers and nature enthusiasts alike. The air inside the cave was cool and moist, carrying the faint scent of salt from the nearby ocean. Fluorescent lights strung along the cave walls illuminated the path ahead, creating a mesmerising play of shadows on the rock formations.
He wasn't alone. Trotting beside him and whimpering softly, was Moonshadow, his recently hatched Poochyena. The pup, her tail tucked nervously between her legs, seemed overwhelmed by the cave's vastness and the flickering shadows. Kneeling down, Oak stroked Moonshadow's fur reassuringly. "Don't worry, little buddy," he soothed in a gentle tone voice. "This place might seem scary, but it's full of wonders. Just stay by my side, alright?"
The first major feature of the cave that greeted them was a series of grand stalactites and stalagmites that sparkled like diamonds under the artificial lights. These natural formations, shaped over millennia, formed intricate patterns that told stories of the earth's history. Oak’s eyes gleamed with fascination as he made mental notes about the geological significance of these structures. Moonshadow, however, remained wary, her eyes darting nervously at every flicker and shadow.
As he ventured deeper, the sound of water became more pronounced. Union Cave was known for its numerous underground streams and pools, which were fed by the ocean. He stopped by one such pool, its surface an obsidian mirror disturbed only by the intermittent drip of water from the stalactites above. Occasionally, the pitch black surface would be stirred by some unseen creature in the water’s depths.
Moving along, Oak encountered a group of tourists gathered around a wide, open cavern where the ceiling soared high above. In this natural amphitheater, a guide was explaining the cave's unique ecosystem. Curious, he decided to join the group and listened intently as the guide pointed out the Zubat colonies hanging from the ceiling, their tiny bodies swaying slightly as they slept. Moonshadow let out a yelp, her tail whipping back and forth, startled by the sight of the bat-like Pokémon. The guide also mentioned that if they were lucky, they might spot a rare Lapras that occasionally swam in from the ocean to rest in the cave's tranquil waters. This piqued Oak's interest, but unfortunately, their visit didn't yield a Lapras sighting.
As the tour continued, Oak marvelled at the bioluminescent algae that clung to the cave walls. In certain sections, the lights were dimmed to enhance the glowing effect of the algae, creating a magical, otherworldly atmosphere with walls that seemed to breathe with a soft blue and green luminescence. It was here the Professor found a quiet spot to sit and catch his breath. The tour group moved on, their excited chatter fading into the distance, leaving him alone in the twinkling light and the rhythmic pulse of the unseen ocean.

The cave was beautiful—aglow with mother nature's recreation of sunlight within the confines of this underground cave system. Dappled bits of brightness like stars glimmered and gleamed, shining down upon the water, only disturbed when the occasional hidden pokemon broke the surface for a gulp of air. As Oak caught his breath, listening to the tour group's chatter fade into a clutter of quiet echos that danced through the tunnels, something would catch his eye. Unlike the rest of the stone within the cave, it did not shine grey or blue or brown, all familiar earthy tones in such a place. It did not move, thus it wasn't one of the nesting zubats flying low. Nor was it upon the water. Rather, it was a blotch of bright red amongst stoney pillars that were long ago carved into being by the indomitable destiny of erosion. A close look revealed that the red was shaped like...a nose?

The familiar earthy tones of the cave were abruptly broken by this splash of red, an anomaly that demanded investigation. Curiosity piqued, Oak crouched down and nudged Moonshadow back a safe distance. "Stay here, girl," he instructed softly. He didn't want to startle whatever it was with any sudden movements. Carefully, he reached into his pocket and retrieved a Pokéball.
"Alright, Yorick, let's brighten things up a bit!" he called out, releasing his Fuecoco. The small crocodile Pokémon immediately emanated a warm glow from the tuft on its head, casting light onto the cavern's walls.
The red splash resolved itself into a sight that made Oak raise an eyebrow. Nestled amongst the stalagmites was a Nosepass, its angular body composed of smooth, dark blue rock with a distinctive red "nose" protruding from its front. Moonshadow, emboldened by Yorick’s presence, let out a curious bark, her earlier fear replaced by investigative puppy spirit.
The Nosepass, startled by the sudden light and noise, swivelled its head, its magnetic nose pointing steadfastly in their direction. Seizing the opportunity, Oak reached into his bag and retrieved a Dusk Ball, specially designed for capturing Pokémon in caves. "Moonshadow, stay back," he warned, aiming the Dusk Ball at the Nosepass. With a well-timed throw, the Dusk Ball sailed through the air, engulfing the Nosepass in a bright light. The Nosepass wobbled unsteadily within the confines of the ball, then with a triumphant click, the light subsided.

With Nosepass safely secured, Oak decided it was time to continue his journey. He thanked Yorick, returning him to his Pokéball and with a final glance at the glowing cave walls, began making his way towards the cave exit. Moonshadow padded happily beside him, her earlier fear forgotten.
Emerging from the cool, damp embrace of Union Cave, the warm evening air of Route 33 washed over them. In the distance, the twinkling lights of Azalea Town beckoned. Oak stretched his tired muscles, a sense of accomplishment washing over him. Tonight, he would find a cozy inn, grab a well-deserved meal, and wash away the mud from battling outside the nursery in the driving rain. Tomorrow, he'd pay a visit to his old friend Kurt, the skilled smith renowned for his craftsmanship with Pokéballs.
