After a brief respite from it all, The Researcher could not stray too long from the field. With a mostly empty Pokédex and a dream, it almost felt like he had little choice but to get up and get out there. The boy trudges towards Route 30 and begins to take notice of his surroundings. His little electronic encyclopedia was in hand, ready to scan the nearest new Pokémon that comes across his path.
Skye trudges through the tall grass, one of the most heinous transgression to Pokémon kind.
But...
The Pokémon just don't seem to be coming out today?! Are you telling me these creatures don't want to be stuffed inside tiny balls for him to have and keep forever!??!?!
As the Trainer keeps moving forward in the hopes of finding something (hopefully cute) to Research, in the distance was a lone house. Something to sate his curiosity... As Skye approached, an elderly man noticed him while he was out doing his yardwork. It was easy to tell by his clothes, not to mention the device in his hands that this was a greenhorn of a Trainer sent here by Professor Elm. "Say... You're one of Elm's kids, aren't cha?" asked the man.
Skye jumps with surprise, not expecting this encounter as he was so entirely focused on getting to the house. His gaze shifts as he gives the man a cheery grin, "Sure am!" he boasts.
Mr. Pokémon strokes his chin, as he steps to this young man, pulling out something from his pack. A mysterious looking Pokémon egg, which Skye immediately attempts to scan to no avail. "I came across this Egg, but for the life of me, I cannot figure out what it might be... Would you be willing to bring this back to Professor Elm for me?"
Skye felt he owe quite a bit to Professor Elm for all the assistance he gave to him starting off his Journey, so not for a second did he think about a reward for his efforts. The Trainer grins and puts on his most confident appearance, "Yes!! I will gladly help you two out! This is important research!" he beams.
After a few more exchange of words with Mr. Pokémon, the boy turns around and heads towards Cherrygrove City, sighing to himself
"Although I didn't expect to have to backtrack so soon in my Journey.. I just got done with Route 29!" "Ah well..."
The egg is hugged close to his chest, he attempts to keep it WARM like a proud mother hen. OOC: Notes: N/A Word Count: 425 Pokémon On-Hand:

Wild Pokémon understood nothing of man’s logic. It was why they often fumbled about with commands as soon as they were caught, seemingly missing moves that should have been guaranteed hits ( Gen 1 logic) until they were able to bond with their trainers more. Nothing short of simply teaching fido how to fetch, roll over, and play dead. They don’t come naturally knowing everything exactly as you instruct because of the words you used, after all. Right? Maybe they did. Who knows. Some had it easier, others had it harder. And along the heart of the open route – where furry purple bodies darted through the tall grasses wrapped around Skye’s legs as he trudged on – they disappeared from sight. Just pairs of eyes staring down from the canopies above, whispering soft chirps to warn the rest. A flutter of wings, with hues of tawny browns or faded pinks, carried the mostly hidden avians off into the distance long before Skye could call a friend out to help him confront them. All missed opportunities in the grand scheme of things.Mr. Pokémon worked tirelessly on his yard, grumbling and complaining to himself. He jested, not really upset with the workload mother nature provided, though his frail bones ached with the longing to find a nice couch to sink deep within the cushions of. He paused in his diligence to see things done right for himself and craned his eyes to truly take in the image of the approaching visitor, before raising a hand with a quick wave to Skye. A quick question, pleasantries swapped, and an egg transferred over, he’d bid Skye adieu! “I really appreciate the help. See I’d go myself but…traveling isn’t exactly easy on me. And well….all this yardwork ain’t helpin’ much, either.” A laugh etched from the back of Mr. Pokémon's throat, with only a slight hint of his nerves getting the best of him. He turned an eyes towards the tangled branches that spiraled away from his yard and back through the open route towards Cherrygove, and eventually New Bark Town itself. “But uhm. Be careful, will’s ya? I’ve been hearin’ tall tales of Pokémon thieves in the area.” A shiver crawled down the back of Mr. Pokémon's spine as he admitted the last part aloud. It wouldn’t take Skye very long to realize he was being followed as he made his way back to Professor Elm’s lab. Leaves rustled in thick bushes and grasses swayed even when there was no breeze to warrant it. Was that a wild Pokémon – one of the many that once refused to show themselves just so Skye could capture them as a newfound friend? Or someone else, lurking in the shadows, apt to make his newly acquired egg their own? Skye could…keep pushing forward, largely ignoring the strange sounds that followed him. Sure. Maybe it was nothing at all – just sounds that were all in his head if he listened too closely. Or he could…confront the sounds, be them Pokémon or something else entirely. But…what would Skye do? Skye has begun the quest! Whose that lurking in the bushes though??

It was frustrating for potential friends or foes to elusive on this day, especially when the sight of faded pinks (one of his favorite colors) was among them. All the missed opportunities were starting to annoy him, as his goal of filling out the Pokédex was not being sated this day. But, Skye was not one to cry about it, there would be other chances. Pressing forward was the important thing here.
Skye grinned at Mr. Pokémon, shaking his head. "Think nothing of it, sir! To be honest, I must thank you! Any errands ran for a Professor will shine upon me greatly when I decide to apply for an Assistant role." he remarks. Through Cherrygrove City he goes, which was easier to navigate thanks to the Guide he had found earlier. Now equipped with some swanky new running shoes, he can bolt even faster through town and eventually make his way back to Route 29... Again!
The warning stuck around in his head... Pokémon thieves?
His curiosity was brimming though, while it was a heinous crime, the psychology behind what drives a person to do such things was nagging at him. What choices did they make up to this point? How were they raised? For what purpose did they do these things?!
Skye is on full alert at this point, hugging the egg close to his chest while he thinks about what those strange sounds could be. Surely he wouldn't be this unlucky to already be encountering a potential thief?! The boy hummed, considering his options... He could ignore it and keep on, or even try to set a trap for the man...
A decision is made, because he doesn't want to harm a person who may just want directions. If he well and truly being stalked, then he makes the choice to begin using his nifty new running shoes to begin sprinting forward, being mindful of his steps and what was ahead of him. If he truly was being followed, the person behind him would have to try to keep up!

"Get back here, brat!" That shout would suddenly erupt from behind Skye. Apparently, yes, he was being stalked, and him sprinting for safety had forced the man to abandon his quiet stealth in favor of the chase. Exploding from the bushes to pursue him was a man in all black from head to toe save for the bright red R emblazoned on his chest. His late start meant that catching up would be difficult, but that was assuming he would play fair. Bad men like him never played fair. With a sneer, he threw a pokeball and a purple rat emerged in front of Skye, teeth bared. Uh-oh! Now he was trapped between a very aggressive trainer and his pokemon. "Gimmie that egg!" he growled, lurching forward to try to close the distance between them.

Skye had to confirm he was being followed before he tried anything, but it seemed the man was too close to him for him to be able to try and set up a trap of sorts.
When the man started screaming at him, Skye turned to glance over his shoulder and get a look at his pursuer. It was a man from Team Rocket, though Skye had little idea who they were, perhaps having heard of them in passing once or twice before.
A giggle emerges as the man was giving chase, a little game of cat and mouse and toying with the thief was a bit of good fun up until a light emerged in front of him and a Rattata blocked his path. Boooooo...
"Not one for small talk, eh?" "What sort of life led you down this path, I wonder..."
Skye would ask outloud curiously, though he hardly expected an answer from them. Eyeing doing the purple rodent for a moment, he realizes his only choice was to fight, least he lose Elm's precious egg. A hand skirts down to his belt and he tosses a ball, in a flash of light out appeared the brightest, pinkest kitty of them all: Aries.
With a playful "Nyaaaaaa!" the feline glanced around at the situation. Naturally, a cat would quickly catch on that it was time to do one of its duties: rat catching. The Lovey-Dovey Skitty licked her chops while staring down the opponent, baring her teeth with confidence and ferocity at the tasty-looking RAT. She had gotten a good look at this Pokémon blocking Skye's path moments ago and would not stand for her new Trainer being threatened.
Oh yes, she will enjoy playing with this one...
Without even being ordered she lunges forward to surprise the opponent with a sucker paw of an attack.

Hands folded on their knees. The body labored, panting heavily as the grunt tried to catch his breath. Who trained these kids to be so fast?! This was an entry-level mission. One that all grunts were supposed to complete in the blink of an eye. Knock a kid over, cause him to cry, steal the egg for profit, and relax on a yacht out at sea with all the excess money you made. Where on earth did the manual say you needed to be able to run A FREAKING MARATHON just to catch the kid?! Or that the ‘kid’ was going to be some half-grown twenty-something-year-old punk?! “I’ll show you small talk. Squeaks, are you ready to chew this guy a new arse?!” Dark irises like the heavenly skies around the stroke of midnight turned viciously to their furry companion, who thumped her tail and smacked her buckteeth in the air excitedly. When a strange looking pink cat with a ribbon tied around its neck appeared, the mouse’s eyes widened, and she slowly backed up in the tall grasses. Nope, nu-uh, you get back out there! The grunt prodded her with the vamp of his shoes. The summer heat that waned on, causing thick beads of sweat to roll down the sides of his face. “Quick Attack now, Squeaks! Before they try to escape!” He huffed, eyes almost like a serpent’s staring down at the small feline as though it were nothing more than a speed bump along his destined path. “You want to know what pulled me down this path? Student loans were drowning me, and every normal job wouldn’t keep the loan sharks at bay. But when someone tells you how to make a quick grand in a day, you listen.” He smirked, with a menacing stare. Aries would easily slap the rat silly. Squeaks turned to her owner with death glare. Did you just see what that freaking feline did to me?! And you let this happen?! The look in her eyes seemed to scream at the Rocket Grunt. “What? It’s not my fault you didn’t dodge.” He argued with his mouse, who bit the tip of his shoe before being kicked through the tall grasses. Skye scanned his opponent carefully, trying to pick out the most intimate details about the man. It was impossible to know someone just from their looks, but one could glean insights this way. Combined with a bit of talking, he could probably get him to spill some things, right? "Squeaks...?" he asked lowly. Such a cute nickname for such a masculine and thuggish person; he never would've guessed! A hand slowly raised to his lips, his cheeks starting to flush with a hint of red. But this was short-lived. The abuse towards the Rat Pokémon instantly made him taste bitterness on his tongue, his stomach aching like it was filled with burning stones. There is a heat simmering within him, his normally confident twitching as he clenched his jaw, trying to hold back the viciousness that was bubbling up within him. Eyes that were normally warm and inviting were now staring daggers at the man. This was the second case of Thugs abusing this Pokémon he has seen this week, and this time he would surely do something about it. 'I will win...' echoed in the boys mind, not that he had any plans to let this thug take the egg, but now his resolve was steeled once more. Aries glanced over her shoulder while the two argued. It was awkward to see them fight, and the Trainer's abusive behavior was unsettling. She wondered if this was typical of humans. Would she be subjected to such treatment? No... she could read her Trainer's expression, see the disgust in his eyes. The boy had such nice energy before! Seeing this Rocket Thug as the source of this made her more raring to fight... "Tackle." Skye ordered coldly. And, then Aries was off, blitzing forward to tackle the rat and keep her momentum going and slam into the Rat! OOC: Notes: N/A Word Count: 307 Pokémon On-Hand:

"You gotta problem with how I name my pokemon, punk?!" The grunt barked, toeing the rat back towards the battle. Said rat huffed a bit and shook his head. "Use quick attack on that weird, freaky skitty! And if you thrash them good enough, we can take that stupid skitty and pawn it off to make a quick buck. Do you KNOW how relentless those loan sharks are? I'm gettin them off my back, and you're gonna help by handin' over both that egg and anything valuable in your party if you know what's good for ya." he was still panting a bit from their earlier sprint. Yeesh. Okay. He was a bit out of shape. Maybe he did need to add some pacers to his morning work out before he started his day of crime. "Use quick attack!" he called out, pointing at the skitty, and wiping the sweat off his forehead. Squeaks scoffed a bit, but obeyed, leaping into action, as quick as could be, becoming little more than a blur as he ran, meeting the skitty head on. They slammed into each other then sprang apart, both evenly matched. Rocket Battle Weather: Heat Wave [attr="class","qkt-bkgd"] [attr="class","qkt-wild-pkmn"] Squeaks ♀ LV 6 HP 43% [9/21]

The Ashy-Haired Boy stared at the Grunt for a long moment, giving a disappointed sway of his head at his retort. "No, sir. I think the name you gave is adorable, however, what is reprehensible, is your mistreatment of Miss Squeaks." the boy cannot mute himself any longer against these types of people. Another comment towards his colorful feline is made, just why were people being mean to his Lovey-Dovey Skitty?! The creature was so uplifting and confident, and looked BEAUTIUFL to this Trainer, not to mention she has been vital in his operations thus far! Without being flinched the Skitty will be out-sped this time by the Rat, a clash of paws between Cat and Rat ensues... Surprisingly, they were well matched!
"You will get nothing today. I will not lose to someone who can't even slightly synchronize with their Pokémon," he remarked, his tone cutting through the air. As someone raised by a Professional Battler, Skye didn't quite view things in terms of Good and Evil but rather how their wills mesh together and the value of trust, even between a bad person and their Pokémon.
"Miss Squeaks hardly trusts you," he continued, his eyes narrowing. "And that lack of trust will cost you dearly in crucial moments."
Skye reallllly didn't want to judge him entirely off of this, and write him off as vile just yet, even if the abuse made his stomach churn, this was a person. "Then perhaps if you had protection from these Sharks, would you consider changing your ways?" asked the Aspiring Researcher. Idly chit chat while he planned his next move,
"Another Tackle." is ordered. OOC: Notes: N/A Word Count: 273 Pokémon On-Hand:

"Yeah, yeah, whatever. Power of friendship and sugar and rainbows. Woo. Gag!" He made an exaggerated face of disgust. "Save your after school magical girl special schlock for someone who cares. I got big boy problems and you're in the way. Taxes and loan sharks don't care about the bonds between pokemon and trainer, they care about whether or not you got the green in the bank. So pardon me if I don't care about your feelings, punk. Squeaks here is just a tool. All pokemon are. Tools are meant to be used. And a useful tool will help me dig my way out of this debt trap or they'll be put aside. That's just common sense." He adjusted his hat. "Squeaks, quick attack again. And hit harder this time!" The purple rat obeyed, lunging forward to slam into the skitty. The pair rolled again, the age old tussle playing out in real time. "Bah, failure at a key moment. Skye narrowed his eyes at the Grunt's retort. What he was talking about wasn’t friendship, but something more fundamental: The Grunt and his Pokémon didn’t see eye to eye. There was no mutual respect, no shared understanding. After hearing the Grunt call his Rattata a tool, Skye couldn't fathom how that Pokémon could respect its Trainer at all. The egg in his arms was clutched a little tighter, hugged possessively against his chest as the thought of a Pokémon being in the hands of someone like that made his stomach churn with nausea.
Aries was hit again in the tussle against the speedy rat. The Skitty's confidence did not waver, just like her Trainer's. Despite her wildly pink fur and the panting breaths that came between attacks, Aries was still eager, itching for another go. With a flourish of his hand, Skye stepped forward, his voice steady and commanding, "Tackle, Aries. I think you're almost there!" The words were barked with determination as he encouraged his Skitty to give it her all.

"Hm, I guess kids like you are just ignorant of living in a society," the grunt huffed at Skye's lack of response to his ranting earlier. "Alright Squeaks, another Quick Attack!" Both Pokemon were getting weak from battling their heart out. The Rattata darted first and slammed at the Valentines themed Skitty at the side once again, making the feline pant from the hard slam. However, the lovingly kind Skitty put the end to the battle by getting back on her feet and tackle the Rattata to unconsciousness. "Heh. I'm not done." The grunt returned the fallen Rattata and swapped his hand. "Shh, get in here!" A Zubat was fluttering in front of Skye, after the Pokeball revealed the Pokemon inside.
