The Pokemon they encounter next scarcely looked like a bug at all - more like a large ball of something brown, and sticky, and stinky. Trixie didn't even realize there was a bug behind it until she looked more closely, seeing a small creature pushing the ball of... hippo dung? to and fro. It stood stock still and stared at her for a few moments, before carrying on its merry way. Trixie let it go. She did not want that thing in a Pokeball of hers, even if it did need to be added to her Pokedex at some point... Maybe she would come back for it when she had a stronger Pokemon. And a stronger stomach.

A reddish, bulbous bug suddenly loomed up out of the grass, no doubt it was sneaking around looking for its next victim to poke with the stingers attached to its posterior. Trixie had some familiarity with this type of hunting tactic - having had to wrangle Slinky's mischief on more than one occasion after all - and as soon as she saw the size of the bug she realized this was not a fight she could win on Sport Balls alone. "Nope! We are outta here!" The trainer scooped up her Ralts in her arms and hightailed it away from the Venipede, who would shuffle on through the hedges and into the darkness in search of less wary prey.

Their last encounter was somewhat of a letdown, to be honest, but at least it was something that Faye stood a decent chance of fighting. Trixie released the Ralts from her arms as the Metapod sat placidly in place under the waning autumn sun. "Let's not waste any time. Hit it with your Confusion!" The Ralts's eyes glowed blue, followed by the rest of her body, and she concentrated psychic power into her arms. With the energy surging through her, she attempted to reach out to the Metapod, wrap her will around it, then lift it up and slam it around into the nearby bushes and trees.

No amount of hardening done by the frantic metapod in an attempt to protect itself, could save it against the psychic powers of the ralts. With one of the confusions being a critical hit, it was down for the count.  Faye grows +2 levels to [Lv 19]! She can learn Psybeam if she forgets another move. She also gains +1 Happiness! (+2)

Trixie was astonished as Faye's psychic power practically blasted the Metapod off into the trees. She could hear it crash into the canopy, then the sound of branches snapping as it thumped down and down in a vain attempt to right itself again. When it fell back to earth, she could tell it was definitely out for the count. Its eyes were swirling as it stiffened, then toppled over onto its side. The bug would not be evolving anytime soon. Maybe next year.
There would be no opportunity to catch it now, but Trixie doubted such a Pokemon would win over the judges anyway; Metapod were practically as common as Caterpie, and she guessed that the judges had seen plenty of those over the years. At least she still had the odd yellow bug with its flashing dot patterns. "Let's go, Faye," she said as she walked off toward the judging station. The day was coming to an end and plenty of contestants had already gotten their entries in. Would hers be among the prize-worthy ones?
