As the Sport Ball finally clicked shut, signaling the successful capture of the Kricketune, Smolder happily bounded over to retrieve it. The little Charmander proudly carried the ball back to his trainer, his tail flame flickering with excitement.
The ex-Rocket took the Sport Ball from Smolder, feeling the weight of their latest catch. He rolled it over in his hand, a small smirk playing on his lips as he considered their progress.
- Maybe it'll earn us something. - he muttered under his breath, his mind already evaluating their chances in the Bug Catching Contest. Though the contest was nearing its end, Crow wasn't quite ready to call it a day. There was still time to push their luck, to find that one more catch that could tip the scales in their favor.
- Let’s look for one more before they end it, shall we? - he said, his voice steady.
Smolder chirped in agreement, his eyes bright with anticipation. The Charmander was ready for another round, eager to prove himself once more. With their goal set, Crow and Smolder moved quickly through the tall grass, scanning the area for any signs of movement. The park was beginning to quiet down as other trainers wrapped up their efforts, but Crow knew that sometimes the best catches were found in the final moments.

Crow's eyes shined as the Pinsir sluggishly stomped through the tall grass. This was exactly the kind of big, impressive bug he’d been hoping to find - a Pokémon that could make all the difference in the Bug Catching Contest. The sight of the Pinsir’s massive pincers and intimidating presence sent a thrill through him.
- Now, THAT is one big bug! - Crow muttered to himself, feeling a surge of adrenaline. This was it - the perfect catch.
He inhaled deeply, steadying his nerves, and readied the Sport Ball in his hand. This wasn’t just any capture; it had to be flawless. Crow was determined to make this count.
- Oh, we're getting that one. - he said, his voice filled with resolve. But just before giving the command, he held back, glancing at Smolder. - Hold out on that one. I need it perfect!
The young Charmander, already itching for action, looked up at Crow with a hint of disappointment in its emerald-green eyes. Smolder’s tail flame flickered with the energy it had been ready to unleash, but Crow’s order was clear: no mistakes, no risks.

Crow's frustration grew with each failed attempt. The Pinsir was proving to be a far more formidable opponent than he had anticipated. It effortlessly sliced through every Sport Ball he hurled, its massive pincers making short work of them as if they were nothing more than flimsy toys. Meanwhile, Smolder was taking a beating, the normally eager Charmander now struggling to keep up as it was tossed around by the powerful Bug-type.
Ex-Admin hadn’t expected an easy catch, but this was getting out of hand. Smolder’s energy was rapidly depleting, and Crow could see the weariness in his partner’s eyes. Still, he couldn’t back down now. This Pinsir was too valuable, too perfect a catch to let slip away.
- Just hang in there, any time now! - Crow shouted, desperation creeping into his voice. Smolder, though battered, gave a determined nod, though the flame on his tail was becoming much dimmer.
Crow gritted his teeth, his hands shaking slightly as he grabbed another Sport Ball. He couldn’t afford to waste any more time. Smolder couldn’t take much more of this abuse, but the trainer was determined to make this catch happen. He took a deep breath, steadying his aim, and threw the next several balls with every ounce of strength and precision he could muster.

Crow’s frustration had reached a boiling point. The stubborn Pinsir refused to stay in the Sport Balls, batting them away as if they were nothing. Each time Crow hurled a ball, his determination only grew, but so did his anger. The bug-type was relentless, and Smolder was taking the brunt of its wrath, getting tossed around like a ragdoll.
For a moment, Crow considered letting Smolder faint, to just let it be over. But something inside him refused to give up. Not this time.
With a growl of determination, Crow quickly pulled out a bottle of Super Potion from his bag. He sprayed it over Smolder, watching as the potion worked its magic, revitalising the battered Charmander. Smolder’s tail flame brightened, and the little lizard stood up straighter, reinvigorated and ready to keep fighting. The weight of the battle lay squarely on Smolder's shoulders, and Crow knew that as long as his Pokémon could stand, they still had a chance.
Without a word, Crow’s eyes locked onto the Pinsir, his grip tightening on another Sport Ball. He refused to be beaten by a mere bug. Not after everything they had been through. This capture was going to happen, no matter what it took.

As the battle dragged on, Crow's heart pounded in his chest, a mix of frustration and determination driving him forward. The crushed remains of broken Sport Balls littered the ground around him, each one a reminder of the stubbornness of the Pinsir that refused to be caught. The intensity of the encounter was reaching its peak, and Crow could feel the pressure mounting with every failed attempt.
He quickly counted the remaining Sport Balls in his hand - just a few left. The once plentiful supply was dwindling rapidly, and the weight of each throw seemed to grow heavier. Crow's sharp eyes flicked between the resilient Pinsir and the precious few balls he had left. This bug was tough, no doubt about it, but Crow wasn't about to let it slip through his fingers.
With a deep breath, he steadied himself, refocusing his energy.
- One of these has to work... - he muttered silently.

With only two Sport Balls left, the frustration reached its peak. The once-reliable method of trying to catch the Pinsir unscathed had failed, and it was clear that a different approach was needed. If this bug wasn't going down easily, then it would go down hard.
- Dragon Breath! You better stun it THIS time! - Crow barked, his voice sharp and commanding. The exhaustion and irritation were evident in his tone, but beneath it was a fire, not too dissimilar to the powerful flame the Charmander had on his tail. Smolder, feeling the weight of his trainer's expectations, narrowed his emerald eyes and took a deep breath, gathering the energy for one final push.
The air around the small Charmander crackled with power as he unleashed a fierce Dragon Breath attack, the teal flames roaring out from his mouth and slamming into the Pinsir.

The powerful bug-type, already battle-worn from the relentless onslaught, reeled from the impact. This time, Smolder’s attack hit with the full force of a dragon’s might, and the Pinsir faltered, its movements slowing as the paralyzing effect of the Dragon Breath took hold. Crow watched with bated breath as the Pinsir staggered, clearly weakened and struggling to move. This was his chance, the moment he had been pushing for. There was no room for error now - this had to be it.
With a swift motion, Crow grabbed the second-to-last Sport Ball, his hand steady despite the adrenaline surging through him. He wound back and threw it with all the strength and precision he could muster. The ball flew through the air, straight toward the stunned Pinsir, hitting it squarely and drawing it inside with a flash of red light. The Sport Ball fell to the ground, quivering violently as the Pinsir fought its last battle from within. Crow and Smolder both stared intently, the tension almost suffocating. The ball wobbled once, then twice, and finally, after what felt like an eternity, it clicked shut.
Just as the victorious moment settled in, a loud whistle echoed through the National Park, signaling the end of the Bug Catching Contest. Crow straightened up, the satisfaction of a well-fought battle still coursing through him as he picked up the Sport Ball containing the freshly caught Pinsir. Everything had come together perfectly, just as he had intended.
A smug grin spread across his face as he admired the ball in his hand.
- It was only a matter of time. - he mused, the triumph clear in his voice. - All Pokémon bend to me eventually.
He tossed the Sport Ball lightly in his hand, the weight of victory settling comfortably on his shoulders. As he glanced at Smolder, he noticed the Charmander had been watching him intently, anticipation gleaming in those green eyes.
Crow’s expression softened slightly.
- Alright, you did great this time. - he admitted, his tone carrying a hint of genuine praise. Smolder beamed with pride, the joy unmistakable as he hopped up onto Crow’s shoulder. The little lizard puffed out his chest, clearly basking in the rare compliment from his trainer.
With his loyal partner perched happily on his shoulder, Crow began making his way toward the middle fountain, where contestants were gathering to turn in their catches. The Pinsir, now snug in its Sport Ball, was sure to make an impression. The thrill of competition was still in the air, but for Crow, the victory was already sealed.
