Ilex Forest ShrineThe Ilex Forest shrine can be found in the deepest part of Ilex Forest, situated right in the center of the forest itself. Many people say that the shrine is a symbol of good luck, and wards off evil spirits in the forest. Some others say that the shrine is linked to the legendary Pokémon, Celebi, and that it lives inside the forest shrine, as the forest guardian. However, recently, the shrine has come under the grasp of a malignant force. A pair of red eyes can be seen peering through the fog, vigilantly watching over the shrine and its surroundings. This crimson gaze is enough to transfix anyone to the spot and send shivers down the most resolute back. What could possibly be strong enough to dispel this evil force?

Trampling from Dense Thicket. As the thief and his two Pokemon companions in the form of a Charmeleon and a Gallade proceeded through the prickly corridor of thickets, they were soon relieved to be out as they made it out into a new clearing. However, this new found sense of relief soon waned as the chilling environment of the new inner part of the forest set in. Gone were the bright trickles of sunlight that shone their way through the myriad of leaves. This inner sanctum seemed to be in a state of perpetual darkness, only partially illuminated by an eerie glow in the air. The cold chilly fog that seemed to breeze by the group along with the odd cry off in the distance was enough to make even the reckless Joe feel a little more worried about his own safety. " Brrrr... This place sure feels cursed. There just ain't no other word for it." Looking at Lupin and Charmeleon, it was apparent even they were daunted. " Come on, let's get out of here. I don't like this one bit." Noticing there seemed to be two apparent paths, Joe muttered something fierce under his breath. " Time to flip a coin then." Tucking into his jeans pocket, he pulled out a game corner coin and flipped it and taking a glance as it landed. " Tails. Right way it is then." Moving off in that direction, it seemed Joe was unaware of the significance of this shrine. Lupin on the other hand seemed a bit more in tune with the forest's unspoken tales. Glancing his red eyes around, he shuddered as he got hints of what had conspired in these darkened woods.

Over the River & Through the Woods
(Highlight v) ---[Entering from Dense Thicket]---
The tree cutting exercise that Strawberry had just been put through was a dramatic success. It took her a little while to hack down a large, dead tree all by herself, but the move Cut let her muster it all on her own. If she were to get a bit older and stronger, she'd be able to do it with much more ease! Still, the move should come in handy sometime in the future, in addition to it being a stronger move for the Buneary's inventory, so it is welcome.
As for the road ahead, Nadia and her crew of Cheeky and Chuchu approached the center of the forest. The road had been peaceful, but rather long. But right here, coming up, was the Forest Shrine. Legends of a time traveling Pokemon was said to visit this shrine every now and again in peaceful times. With the return of Team Rocket, would this time now be considered peaceful? Well, regardless of this or not, it isn't like a line of people always stood around the monument, hoping to capture the Pokemon for themselves. It was a legend of a shrine of much respect, but it'd be unlikely to say that a lot of people honestly believed it for the truth.
"I'd say we're about half way there, gang," Nadia said to her Pokemon as they approached the Forest Shrine. "And I'd say this is a lovely spot for us to have a lunch break! I've always wanted to visit the shrine of Ilex Forest and here it is, so it'd be a good opportunity to put our feet up for a short while and get rested up."
Cheeky perched on a branch nearby and Chuchu hopped down off Nadia's shoulder and stood before her. The trainer herself reached into her bag and got out four Pokeballs- One with with the Heart sticker on it, one with a Flame sticker, one with a Water Droplet sticker, and the last being a completely different looking Pokeball all its own with its ancient look to it. This Pokeball seemed to even be cracking and falling apart in some places, in addition to some dulled looking metals on it that look oriental in some way. Regardless, it still seemed to hold just as well, despite it looking like it could fall apart at any moment.
The Pokeballs opened in a flash and two faces came out happy and smiling, being Strawberry and Leonardo, while two others look bugged, being Richie and Riolu. The moment the blue dog-like Pokemon got a chance, he crossed his arms and walked off, as always. Although he stopped before the shrine and just started to look at it for the longest time for a peculiar reason. Well, Nadia learned not to try to figure out this Pokemon's thoughts because it is too hard to tell. Best let him do his own thing and he complies enough when needed.
"We're going to have lunch now, guys! Feel free to do what you want as I get the meals ready for all of us, okay?" Always with a smile and an upbeat attitude, she then turned and pointed to the shrine. "But be careful not to disturb the shrine. It is very important to the people around here and we're just here to pay our respects. No tampering; Got it?"
Four out of six Pokemon agreed with a cheerful chirp, one just groaned and rolled his eyes, the last just continued to eye the shrine in scrutiny and silence. After that, all the Pokemon went their own way for a little while to stretch and perhaps even play a bit, being wary of the shrine's importance until lunch was ready.
Two hours or so later, all the Pokemon had their fill of a meal, Richie now was less grumpy, and all were ready to go. All, however, except for Riolu. Ever since coming out of his Pokeball, he had just looked at the shrine, almost becoming a statue himself. A dish of food had been set by him, but he hadn't even so much as glanced at it. This left it wide open for a certain little fire type to sneak in and gobble it all up, for once getting away with eating Riolu's food. Well, at least getting away from a punishment from Riolu, but not from the eyes of the ever watchful Chuchu who made sure to deliver a painful Thundershock to Richie. But now, everybody had their fill, Nadia cleaned up all mess and was sure not to have left a single speck of trash behind, and recalled all her Pokemon, save for Cheeky, back into their Pokeballs.
"Alright Cheeky, let's get a move on. I hope to be out of these woods before sun down. Can you fly up and see which way it is to Goldenrod and lead us out of here?" Nadia has asked.
Always faithful to his trainer, Cheeky complied and flew up above the tree line and high into the sky. He glided around for a minute, eying the horizon and to see if he could see any sort of large city in the distance. Sure enough, he did: There were skyscrapers and everything way off there and this city seemed huge: Bigger than what Cheeky had seen! Well, not since they've come there before from the freak snow storm after a festival in Ecruteak City. But they should now be able to visit this city in leaser and not all huddle up in a Pokethalone Dome.
"Cheeky! See anything?" Nadia shouted up.
Cheeky came swooping back down to be within much easier eye sight of Nadia and circled overhead. "Swell-swellow!" He chirped, before flying off and leading the way.
Double checking that she has everything that she needed and no trash left behind, Nadia gave pursuit to the bird, more than eager to get out of this forest. There was something of importance that she wanted to do once she got to Goldenrod City and it just didn't involved getting her third gym badge.

After what seemed like hours of endless walking, the trees finally began to thin out, shafts of light falling through the open areas. But despite the promise of light, there seemed to be an even worse draft in this area, coupled with a deep, troubling aura in the air. It reeked of bad energy, which lifted the hairs on Tanya's neck, caused Starscream to shuffle his wings nervously, and made Saphira clutch even more timidly at Tanya's coat.
Emerging out into the clearing, it was instantly clear that there was something wrong with the area. Despite the light from above, it seemed dim and quite lonely here. The evil atmosphere made even Tanya shudder, drawing her coat a little more snugly around her. There was a shrine nearby, but the ominous feeling she was getting made her not want to stay in the area for too long. If it was disturbing Starscream, then she didn't want to hang around.
The shrine itself was beautiful despite the eerie setting. It seemed to be dedicated to a creature that protected the forest, which Tanya supposed was a being of kindness. It didn't seem to be around, meaning that something may have happened to it to let this darkness settle in. (But I don't want to stick around and find out what drove it off.. sorry, forest guardian.) Shivering again, Tanya shoved her hands in her coat pockets and strolled off in a random direction, hurrying to get out of the constricting, evil air.

Sandy Katayko The scars of your love... ------------------------------------------------ [Coming in from Dense Thicket]
“Darryl…why am I suddenly really scared?” Sandy questioned softly to her gentle partner. Darryl, who was perched on her shoulder, stared at the Shrine that sat in front of them. It looked very much like a bird house, but she knew that it was more than that. Sandy wasn’t from Johto, so the only way she had heard tales about this was from her grandmother.
“The Forest Shrine. They say they made it for Celebi, and Celebi watches over them in return.” She explained to Darryl. Darryl gave a nod in reply, but she felt as scared as Sandy, why she didn’t know.
“It’s kind of weird, Grandma said you were supposed to feel at ease when you saw the Shrine but all I want to do is get out of here."Darryl looked up at her, in nothing less than agreement.
“Okay Darryl, let’s go then, since neither of us want to be here.” Sandy suggested. She bowed to the Shrine itself before hurrying off, feeling like she was being watched. They’d find their way out, but for sure they weren’t staying here.

Incoming from Majestic Grove
As soon as she drew near, Tanya sensed, rather than saw, where they were. The prickling and uncomfortable sensation on the nape of her neck alerted her to the presence of the Forest Shrine once more. She shook her head slightly as Saphira and her emerged from the trees, feeling the dark, foreboding taint in the air and trying to stifle how bad it made her feel. Saphira snorted, drawing close to her trainer.
Strangely enough, the dragon seemed unaffected by the air this time around. Perhaps she was merely being brave to inspire her trainer to keep going, or this was something else entirely. Still, having her most trusted partner at her side eased the discomfort Tanya felt as they walked by the shrine, following a path that seemed to have been worn down by those who'd traveled it before herself.

Returning from Mushroom Bank
Ignoring the chilly, eerie sensation once again, Tanya managed to make it past the quiet shrine in relative calm. Saphira was still busy with her snacks, paying no heed to the malevolence in the air in favour of savoring her treats. Shivering slightly again, Tanya hurried her pace along so that they left the shrine behind them as quickly as they could.

Thanks to Nidoqueen's big bulky body, the armoured creature had managed to walk on ahead through the thicket, snapping and sharp thorns to keep Sharada safe from being torn to shreds any longer... Not that she was happy to do it. Luckily though, her job as shield was about to end, as the tight line of trees began to even themselves out until making some sort of clearing. Making her way out of the claustrophobic trunks, she stepped to one side to allow Sharada to stumble by, the brunette taking in a deep breath of fresh air as she staggered into the clearing. "Thank goodness that is all over! Grr, I should've thought twice about wearing a skirt into the forest..." Muttering under her breath angrily, it didn't take too long before the feeling of being closely watched feel upon her.
Placing a hand on her hip, she turned to Bellatrix and stared at her in an unimpressed manner, "Yeah, yeah, I get it. You think I'm all pathetic about stressing over some pointy twigs--eerr..." Thinking that the heavy stares were from her own Nidoqueen, she was quite surprised to see that she was infact looking directly at the shrine in the center of the clearing. Her eyes oddly opened wider, large arms shivering. As odd as it was to see Bellatrix in such a frozen state, Sharada could see where she was coming from. Pointing her gaze towards the mist surrounded shrine sent shivers up her spine. There was definitely some sort of creepy ghostly presence going on.
"H-Hey--" Sharada started, cautiously reaching out her hand and touching the side of Bellatrix's arm, who jumped nervously, "L-Let's get outta here, on the double." Keeping themselves at a safe enough distance from the shrine, the duo edged around the stone lanterns before darting back into the woodland. Anywhere was better than there.

As Tanya and Saphira neared the shrine, the trainer was surprised - and concerned - to see an eerie mist surrounding it. It was as if all the bad feelings that had freaked her out earlier had been given form. The mist was gray with tinges of purple, undulating slowly despite there being no breeze. Saphira growled quietly, unnerved by the mist and how it seemed to be alive. "Urk, I don't blame you girl. C'mon, let's just get through here quick." Tanya followed the dragon as she nearly ran out of the area, almost tripping over a fallen boulder in her haste.

Entering from The place where I cut the tree... xD Surreo had gotten tired from both walking and transmitting thoughts to both the heads of Justin and Simba, so upon his request, Justin returned him. So far, so good! Although... Simba was starting to get antsy. For a moment, Justin figured he'd be walking alone soon, due to how on edge the lion looked, but apparently there was more than met the eye when it came to this place. Deciding to let out another Pokemon for company, Justin released the mobster Capona. The Honchkrow attempted her best try at nestling on Justin's head, messing up his hair and ultimately just making the scenery seem all that darker or creepier with her dark presence. The shrine they were approaching didn't bother her, but Simba was releasing the occasional static shock, as if he was shivering with fear. Justin was oblivious, although something did send a chill up his spine. Man... this place is pretty.. but... geeze. He murmured, reaching up to stroke a few of the crow's feathers. Simba looked off to the side, and might have seen a pair of red eyes that made him yowl out in fear. WHOAH! WHOAH WHOAH NUH UH! He cried out, sending Capona up into the air with fright. Justin messed with his hair and touched the sensitive spots where Capona's claws were. Owwww... He murmured, paying no attention to the shrine to the side. Capona shot a glance over at the lion before following Justin. Simba caught up eventually, still seemingly paralyzed by the dark force of the shrine. The path split off, so Justin hoped for the best and forked off. Exiting to Mushroom Bank!

The Shrine was even more beautiful at night, Sandy had decided upon arriving. There were some kind of lamp lights that kept the area around it lit enough to illuminate the shrine in a bright orange glow.Remembering her mother always said it was a good idea to pray at a Shrine, Sandy walked up the steps and knelt down in front of it, her hands clapped together as she closed her eyes in silence.
Muru, who had been watching her, suddenly growled sharply, as she quickly realized they weren't alone. Something else was here too. Her eyes scanned the length of the undergrowth until she found a pair of deep red eyes. She shivered and ran up to Sandy, nudging her. Sandy was about to ask her what had gotten into her when she too, spotted the eyes looming on her. The air felt full of malice. Without a word but full understanding, she and Muru ran out of that area as fast as they could.

This hadn't been where she had wanted to come back too. The eyes that had been staring back at her and Muru were still burned into her mind, and the Forest Shrine didn't look at all too inviting. But,s he felt like this is where she was supposed to be. She slid off of Spirit's back, still holding on to the shallowly breathing bundle tight enough so she wouldn't suffocate the sick Chikorita, but wouldn't lose it either.
<<What do you think is here?>> Hiroki asked as she stopped next to him, the tag she had gotten from Sombre Valley earlier still in her possession, and now in her hands. Spirit kept close to Sandy, looking around for any certain signs of danger.
"I'm trying to see what we've seen before, Muru and I. It was menacing..."
<<Then why would you wanna find it?!>> Hiroki asked, suddenly nervous himself. Spirit knew why though. Whatever this thing had been, maybe it was aiding in torturing the Chikorita they had with them. Sandy was acting on feelings and inklings, and he felt it foolish although the only thing she could do.
"I know you're here, come on out!" Sandy shouted, trying to attract the attention of whatever it was that was lurking in the darkness of the night, at this point just wanting to end this long night on a good note. The last thing she wanted was for this Pokemon she had been entrusted with to die, no matter how hard she had tried.

As Sandy's voice called out, indignant to sort out this whole sordid affair, there appeared to be a significant change in the atmosphere around here. Every single traveller that had passed by the shrine had always noted that despite its meaning to give good luck and fortune, the opposite was felt instead. The insidious and malevolent emotion that seemed to sneak over those who waited too long like a passing shadow. In Sandy's case, the very visibility of the scenery around them appeared to be plunged in a thick fog that stretched its murky grip over every inch in front of them. For a fog to be so thick and to have moved in so quickly, it was clearly the work of something unnatural. Protected before by its evil powers, the subduer of good within this area of the forest was starting to be compelled by the power of the cleanse tag. Orchestrating attempts to get Sandy unnerved, a number of faint, sordid breaths continuously occurred to each of her ear's alternatively in tandem. Hints of a reddish glow began to start appearing at the corner of her eye, a bedevilling trick which started to rouse a laughter that seemed to be distant but right behind Sandy at the same time. Eventually, all these signs began to homogenise together and it wasn't long before Sandy's attention was drawn back to the top of the forest shrine... A pair of blood red crimson eyes boring into her own with malicious intent. As they stared, the very world around them seemed to freeze in terror. This had to be the spirit that Flora had warned about. " Mmhmmmhmhmhmhm... I am utterly surprised." The voice wrung out with a disconcerting echo like reverberation to it. " I had thought that contemptuous little swine of a brat would be the one causing all this mischief... But what do I see in her place? A deluded little pawn following the runt's behest. HAHAHAHAHAHAHA! The crazed girl is wholly content with sending someone else to their funeral!" Uttering every word with a poisonous malice to them, it wasted no time in continuing on. " She was ungrateful you know? Everything I did was for her. EVERYTHING. I slaved away day in, day out, day in, day out... And for what? For delightful little Flora to do what she did?!" Its voice booming and almost making the voice quake in humbling to the fury of the ghost, it spat out with even more indignant anger. " Well that's fine! I swore I would have my revenge." The eyes suddenly darting to the Chikorita in Sandy's arms, the evil spirit cackled demoniacally. " Mmhmhmhmhm, that Chikorita isn't the first and won't be the last. Every beat of its heart and I can feel the toxin pump through its veins." The eyes shifting back up to Sandy slowly, it wasn't long before their movement was followed by the disembodied voice. " And you... I can feel the same toxic flowing through your own veins. Mhmhmhmh, you may not be aware but with every encounter you had with my kiln, they slowly seeped a foul poison into you. It shouldn't be long before the poison takes hold and you waste away just as the sickly seed there." Starting to brim with a new found intensity, the eyes took on a whole new level of creepiness. " That is of course... If I don't lay waste to you before that happens. Your cleanse tag may have been enough to grant an audience with me but you're just as misguided as Flora was if you think it'll seal me away. This was MY forest." Where the eyes were hovering over the shrine, a sudden appearance in the form of a Cheshire like grin along with the body of a darkened shadow finally meant Sandy could see the despicable ghost for the first time. What's more however was a dark flowing orb like prison that sat behind it. It was hard to make out but there appeared to be some form of a fairy trapped inside looking lifeless. " I feel disgusted as I look at you little girl. You're just like how Flora was." Levitating forwards with an agile shift, the evil soul was keen on making good of its threats. " Funny thing about dying... I somehow became this you see before you today. My new form will still be enough to chop you down to size! And once i'm done with you... I'm gonna hunt down that Flora and behead her like I should've done in the living!" Encounter

ChikoritaName: Yuudai Gender: MaleLevel: 10 Attacks: Tackle, Growl, Razor Leaf, Poison Powder Ability: Overgrow Nature: Yuudai, despite his horrible experience in Ilex forest, is normally cheerful and happy. He dislikes ghost types for reasons only known by himself and a select other few, and will often back down from a battle if faced with one of them. Yuudai is fairly easy to get along with. For one reason or another, he tends to speak with a surfer's dialect, leading the other Pokemon on his team to believe that he was owned by one previously. He is sometimes hard to understand. <<Sandy!>> Munchy called out as the Gengar launched the Shadow balls towards his trainer and the Chikorita. He was taken by surprise as Flora's ghost appeared, and a blinding flash of light covered the area around them, forcing all three of Sandy's Pokemon to look away. When the light had cleared, there was nothing left behind. Gengar, his goons, and Flora were all gone. Munchy shook himself off and walked over to Spirit and Hiroki, who were gathered around Sandy.
<<It's like they all just vanished.>> Hiroki commented as he looked around. Spirit's nose was in the air, giving a sniff as if to confirm it.
<<That's because they did. Look up there.>> Floating above them, was a creature that Spirit was familiar with hearing about, living on the Route just outside of Ilex for so long. It was Celebi, the legendary protector of the forest. The three Pokemon said nothing, but watched as it fluttered around Sandy, murmuring enchantments in its own sort of language. It was strange of course, but none of them made a move to stop it. There was a certain relief when Sandy opened her eyes, her breathing returning to normal.
"What...happened?" She had been hoping what she had been through was a dream, but sitting on the forest floor, she knew that it had been a foolish thought for her. She looked up and finally noticed the beautiful emerald creature floating before her. She of course had heard of Celebi while living in Johto, but there wasn't any way it was before her now. It spoke to her and her Pokemon, and she realized what had happened: Celebi had saved her life.
"Thank you, Celebi..." Was all she could manage as the creature before her disappeared. It was all a bit surreal, what had just happened, but now Sandy had something else to be thankful for. The blanket that was in her arms began moving, and from under it, a leaf poked out, followed by the rest of the Chikorita's head. The creature whom she had worked so hard to save stared up at her, a much healthier look about him.
"Hey, you're better too?" The Chikorita didn't say much at first, but once his body was fully out from under the blanket, he jumped off her lap and onto the floor, though still a but dizzy.
<< Thanks Dudette, I heard ya' all the way through that goatrope*. Really saved me.>> Sandy stood up herself, steadying herself on Spirit's side until she could regain her sense of movement. Motioning to her Pokemon, and the Chikorita, the group of five headed towards the forest's exit, more than happy to finally be leaving, just as the sun itself was rising.
*Goatrope- real mess
