"Well, well... I must say, I don't know whether to be surprised or impressed."
A smooth, oily voice rolled out of the fog well before the owner was completely visible, only revealing a set of gleaming red eyes that focused on Tyler. A brutal gust of wind shoved at the trainer and Mania, bringing with it a sensation that felt like ants skittering across one's skin. But the creature in question wasn't fond of parlour tricks, and not looking for a simple scare - no, if this human was here with that blasted, foul, tattered old scrap of paper, he wasn't some innocent kid worth a laugh to play tricks upon. Emerging from the fog in a sinuous move, the Gengar touched down without a sound and bared his teeth in a wide grin that was anything but amusing. "Let me guess: sweet, tender-hearted Flora coerced you into bringing that pathetic excuse of a Pokemon here to cleanse. That is why I'm surprised. I've seen into your heart much better than that nature loving brat, and you and I? We're more alike than you think. So it's such a disappointment that you're working against me here." Gengar made a shrugging motion, causing the thick purple fog to swirl about and briefly conceal his presence from view.
"I did everything for that child, working myself raw to the bone to provide for her. And then, one day, she decides to oppose me. AND JUST LOOK WHERE IT GOT US NOW!?" Gengar roared, his anger a sizzling whip that dispersed the fog almost entirely. It snaked around the edges of the trees, as if it were a living being. But with this action, the presence of something else was revealed just behind Gengar. A strange orb made of some ghostly power, dark and constantly flickering, floated just off the ground. Concealed inside was a small, limp form that wasn't completely discernible, but there was a strange, powerful quality to it - perhaps a Pokemon? "Keh. Keheheheh! But with this new body of mine, revenge against her precious, oh so pure Pokemon would be so easy. I cursed that blasted Chikorita, and you, as well. Had you not decided to decimate my minions, you'd have been spared the toxins they spread about with each battle you undertook. Even if you defeat me, I get the last laugh! KEHEHEHEHE!"
He looked over Tyler once more, laughter vanishing from his eyes to be replaced by something that was almost... regretful. "It's too bad it had to come to this. Together we could have subjugated Flora once and for all, and ruled this dark forest for ages to come, powerful and feared by all. As you bear that tattered scrap of paper, however, you leave me no choice. Once I'm done with you, I'll take care of that ungrateful whelp like I should have when I was alive." Gengar levitated forwards, clearly unafraid of Mania's presence and what risk she posed. No, the idea that he could seek vengeance against Flora, whether it be by the death of this one Chikorita or just hunting her down himself, Gengar wasn't going to be dissuaded by anything short of a battle.

After a rather crazy series of events Gengar had been defeated and Tyler had seen the forest guardian with his own eyes. He had heard rumors of it's existence but he now knew itnwas real. He did not even know it's identity but he would look into it as soon as he reached headquarters. " I sure hope that was not some kind of terrible dream, that was a long ass journey to save Chikorita." As he looked down he saw the young grass type and knew it all had to have been real as she looked up at him. She was not a huge fan of his plans for her but regardless she accepted him as her master. [colot=limegreen]" Well with that settled then I do believe I need to give you a nickname. Let me see, you are a grass type who had to resort to letting a member of Team Rocket help you and now you are willing to serve me despite knowing that mercy is not in my vocabulary and that the forest is a far safer place for you. I happen to like your guts for doing what it takes to survive so I am going to call you Isabella. Now with you nickname out of the way I just need to pick up that Cleanse Tag on the shrine and I will be on my way."[/color] He then walked over to the shrine and removed the tag now that the apirits had been vanquished. He just had to find his way through the forest now and then he could reach headquarters. Mania did not even remember the way off hand so she had to start sniffing around trying to figure out which way they should go. There was no fog this time which helped a bit as they had full vision of the area. They knew the way they went the first time was a giant circle but there was a sign pointing to another area of the forest they had not explored. As desperate as they were to escape now that their quest was over they headed towards the sign. Upon closer inspection it said the following. "Mushroom Bank down this path." They decided to follow the path and see if it was the way out. If not they qere sure it would not be too hard to make their way back to the shrine to try again. " Let's get moving, I am ready to say goodbye for life to this place." OOC: Adding the Cleanse Tag to Tyler's inventory. Depositing Isabella in Tyler's PC. Heading to the Mushroom Bank. Also removed a Pokeball to capture Chikorita. ChikoritaName: Isabella Gender: Female Level: 10 Attacks: Tackle, Growl, Razor Leaf, Poison Powder Ability: Overgrow Nature: Bold, Isabella is a very loyal Pokemon to Tyler who will take charge and not back down from even his largest Pokemon. Ever since he saved her life from a curse she has owed him a life debt and obeys him unquestionably not matter how much she dislikes his orders.

Coming from Dense Thicket Ororo stopped to look at the shrine in its rustic glory. Everything in Johto seemed so rustic and full of character. Landmarks in this region looked as though they were as old as time, each one told its own unique story. Polipop cocked its head curiously, wondering what to make of this monument. Something about it he liked, but he couldn’t put his finger on it. “What is this?” She asked her blue friend. He shrugged, unsure as well. “Hmm… it’s really pretty whatever it is.” She snapped a picture of it on her device for further research. “Maybe I’ll come back to investigate it one day, but for now, we have to keep on walking. We don’t know how much further this could take us or if we take a wrong turn it could take another hour to reroute.” Pollipop seemed to agree, as usual, and began leading the way once more. What a smart Pokemon he was. At times, Ororo thought that maybe he was training her how to be more resourceful. ((Adding 174 words to incubator)) Going to Mushroom bank

Past the dense thicket was an eerie looking shrine. Andrew approached it curiously, hoping to find some information. One thing he was sure of; it had definitely withstood the test of time. He retraced his thoughts on how the copse they'd just cut through had come to be. His theory was beginning to seem more plausible now. Was this supposed to remain hidden?
Yael fell quiet again as Andrew explored. Like before, she seemed a bit uneasy. "Hey, is everything okay?" Andrew asked, wondering what could be bothering her. She gestured away from the shrine as if she wanted to leave. Andrew adhered to her suggestion even though he hadn't quite finished snooping around. As she guided him away, Yael let out another sigh of relief.
There had been something sinister about that shrine that she couldn't quite put her finger on. It was almost as if it was possessed by spirits. As normal-type Pokémon, she wasn't fond of ghosts. Her Foresight could move a ghost's immunity to her other attacks but this was just a minor comfort to her. The eerie presence began to fade as they approached an area filled with mushrooms of all shapes and sizes.

--Entering from Dense Thicket-- The thicket they had cut through really had covered the road, it stretched out thinly on the otherside, overgrown and rarely used, but it was there. "Great, this must be the way further into the forest and the way out eventually," Astrid said cheerfully and broke the silence. Her pokemon huddled around them and Lykke even kept her flame on her back going, with the eevee uncomfortably close. "Oh come on, I know there is a bit of mist and dark in here, but it is a forest, nothing to be afraid of," Astrid said with a smile but it didn't calm down her pokemon at all, and they kept glancing around warily. "Eh, Astrid? What's that?" Hector whispered almost fearful and she sighed, what were they all so scared about? She turned to see what he was asking about and frowned at a structure hidden between a couple of trees, the mist swirling around it. "I do not know, time to check it out!" Astrid said and felt like a kid going on adventure again and she nudged Yakul to get her to go over so they could investigate but the skiddo refused to take a single step closer. After a few fruitless attempts Astrid dismounted and pulled her cane free of its socket on the pack Yakul was carrying and set off to investigate it herself. As she got closer she could also feel the eerie atmosphere and she slowed down and were alert but still jumped when Hector talked right beside her. "What do you think it is?"[/i] He whispered nervously but clearly didn't want to seem afraid when this old lady wasn't. "It looks like an old shrine, but it does not feel like we're welcome here, so we better get moving," Astrid answered quietly and smiled reassuring to Hector before they calmly made their way back to their pokemon. Astrid mounted and they continued down the path, this time quiet due to the uneasy feeling. Wordcount: 330 --Leaving for Mushroom Bank--

The radio crackled and buzzed between each word the professor spoke. Damien tried holding it in various elevations, orientations, and even positioned in bits of the forest that seemed promising. The density of Ilex remained palpable. It wasn't a very long radio show. The ranger's gloved hands were getting sweaty as he gave up on any further attempts at getting a clearer signal in favor of just trying to listen as intently as possible.
This attempt became very obvious as the young lad completely stopped moving. One-hundred percent focus on the irregular voice patching through the small device. Booker took note and padded back closer to stand by his trainer. The hound took a watchful seat while waiting for Damien to get what he needed.
"ccchhh d..ths of ZZchhx fores... ccchhh ZZzz... ccchCHpressch Rest..."
The gear continued chattering for a bit longer. Damien stood there until he recognized the ending jingle, just in case something clearer came through.
The boy sighed as he made the device silent. Booker stood back up and curiously looked to the trainer. "I think I got it..." Though he didn't sound too sure. His fingers tapped on the device some more until his map gear displayed. His face squinted as he pushed the digital display around for a few moments. "Yeah... Yeah." The last was spoken with a bit more confidence.
"I think it's this area in the eastern edge here." A soft bark cheered at his feet. "So we just need to get around these ridges... and we're at..." he broke gaze with the map to take in his surroundings once again. Off in the near distance he spotted a timeworn monument.
A shiver shot down his spine and he looked away rather quickly. Did he just see something?
Damien looked again, a quick glance over the moss grown stone of the forest shrine. No. There was nothing there. But... Booker huffed and started looking around, sensing the unease of the ranger. "Down boy." The herdier complied, though didn't visibly relax.
This place felt like this the last time he came around. He'd completely forgotten about it. "Let's just get on with our tracking," dismissed the ranger. Inwardly however he made a mental note about it. After all, they'd have to come back this way eventually if the rough paths of his map were correct.

Coming from the Dense Thicket
As Kevin made it out of the thick brush he came upon a clear area with a small shrine in the middle. An eerie feeling came over him as he looked at the shrine and not wanting to press his luck he quickly moved on from the area. " There is something strange here and I do not like it. After we get to Goldenrod and rest for a bit maybe we can come back and check it out." He murmured before walking down the next path.
Heading to the Majestic Grove.

Maxwell king » Word Count: 200 OOC: Coming from Dense Thicket and onto Mushroom Bank! Emerging from the Dense Thicket area of the Ilex Forest was the dynamic trio of Max, Edward and Jupiter. Once again the bubbly sheep pokemon had set a blazing pace before coming to an abrupt stop, this time however it wasn't due to overly thick vines, tree trunks and various types of plants.
The development that bore witness this time around was a suspiciously clear area where a small shrine was placed within the middle. As Max and his trio entered the area an eerie vibe seemingly encapsulated the area, Max couldn't quite understand how or why the feeling was present but he had a gut feeling it had to do with the shrine itself.
"Something doesn't feel right about this place, lets keep going"
Upon the command from their master, Jupiter begun to lead the way down the path on the other side of the clear area as Edward and Max loitered behind, the electric type pokemon was overly eager to zoom her way through the forest, was she scared of being stuck in the confines of the big bad woods if dusk set in like it would soon enough, it surely seemed as if it were the case.

Coming from the Majestic Grove.
As Kevin and his Pokemon finally reached the Forest Shrine the evil presence he felt earlier had grown considerably in strength. Something very evil was lurking nearby and Kevin could feel a tough fight was about to go down. " Whatever is here is not friendly in the least. This Cleanse Tag is going crazy right now and the evil aura surrounding the shrine is the strongest I have ever felt. Eiskalt keep that Life Orb ready as I have zero doubt you will need it very soon." After he finished speaking he walked towards the shrine and placed the Cleanse Tag on the Shrine. As soon as he did the evil aura sent him flying backwards as a purple mist appeared in front of the shrine.
" Ah I see you have finally arrived, you must be the leader of the evil spirits plaguing this poor forest. I have no idea how long you may have terrorized this forest but it ends now." Eiskalt then stepped forward and extended her claws ready for quite a fight as her Life Orb started to glow brightly sensing the oncoming fight. Oracle and Samantha also stood by just in case they were needed as the pink mist grew in size the more Kevin spoke. He knew he was egging the spirit on but Kevin knew the risk was worth it to draw the evil spirit out in the open to make it an easy target.
The poor cursed Chikorita barely clinging to life as it was seemed quite bothered by the purple mist as it squirmed in Kevin's arms. Knowing there was very little time left to stop the evil specter he called the spirit out hoping it would not try and bide more time. " Ok you coward, show me your true form. Settle this like a soldier instead of hiding like a coward. This poor Chikorita does not have much time and I will do anything it takes to save it. Fiona trusted me with this task and one way or another I will see it through to the end." As the mist started to take a recognizable form Eiskalt could hardly contain her impulse to strike.
Kevin was about to give the order to strike when he suddenly heard the mist start to cackle with laughter. He had grabbed the bull by the horns and knew he would have to hold on tight as the spirit would likely not give up so easily.
OOC: Waiting on the Gengar encounter.

A large dark purple creature pulls itself together and appears before the trainer. It looks at the sick Pokemon and the smile grows bigger. The evil presence is making things hard on the Pokemon in the area which was the plan. A loud, sick, dark, haughty laughter came from the Pokemon. It points at the chikorita being held by the human trainer. It then points down at the ground beneath it as to signal to put the chikorita at its feet. >>The chikorita is mine. It will die at my feet. You have no hope of beating me. Give up and leave this forest before I devour you. This is your only warning. If you don't, I will have fun beating and then eating you.<< Level 25 Berry: Rowap Go here to battle

After witnessing a series of events no sane person would ever believe Kevin had finally accomplished his goal of saving Chikorita and ending the curse plaguing the forest. Now with that goal out of his way and nothing else impeding his path out of the forest he could make his way out of the forest. Of course before he could set out it was clear to him that the Chikorita he had helped save now wanted to come along with him as it seemed to be very thankful for his help. " I see you are doing much better now. By the looks of things you want to tag along. You are more than welcome as there is always room for one more. I think I will name you Eucalyptus as you have quite a nice smell." He then tossed a Pokeball and captured the young grass type. After completing the capture he made his way towards the Mushroom Bank as he knew it would lead to the path he needed to take to escape this crazy forest. OOC: Heading to the Mushroom Bank. Filling out the Chikorita code from Kevin's completed quest. Adding Eucalyptus to Kevin's PC. ChikoritaName: Eucalyptus Gender: Female Level: 10 Attacks: Tackle, Growl, Razor Leaf, Poison Powder Ability: Overgrow Nature: Modest

Having already cleared out the evil spirit in the area and Celebi gone elsewhere Tyler had little reason to stay near the shrine for any length of time. He followed the path to the next area walking as quickly as he could.

--Coming from Mushroom Bank-- Ramsey was surprisingly quiet when they reached the eerie Shrine, Astrid had forgotten all about her from her last visit but right now she sent a little thanks to it. It was nice resting her ears a bit from the ranger's constant talking. The old woman studied the shrine as they went past and wondered what it was with it that made it feel so creepy. There definitely was something off about it, but she didn't know enough about shrines and ancient stories to know that. "This marks where my knowledge of the forest goes to," Astrid said and Ramsey started in his saddle when she broke the silence. "Yes.. yes.. I was told it had been seen in what is called twilight Glade and they said that here we needed to go.. this way!" he whispered and pointed at an overgrown path which they went down along. --continued to Majestic Grove--

Coming from Dense ThicketAt first, Venom had kind of a hard time finding his way around. With so much rain coming down, the ninja didn't expect there to be so much fog. And around the Forest Shrine no less, which Venom knew was built to honor the legendary Pokemon Celebi. "Something's wrong here." Venom said to himself, narrowing his eyes and slowly taking a look around, unable to shake the feeling that he was being watched by someone or something. After about five minutes of searching and silence, the Poison type trainer decided to move on, but kept his wits about him as he did. As he made his way south, Venom took one last look back at the shrine, mentally promising to come back and deal with whatever was causing the chills up his spine. OOC: Venom has chosen to move on to the Majestic Grove.

-arriving from Majestic Grove- They reached the strange part of the forest again with that eerie feeling and Ramsey studied the shrine intently as they passed it, both Yakul and the stantler picked up speed as they wanted to get out of there as fast as possible. "Somebody really needs to investigate what is going on with that shrine," Ramsey said in a whisper as they left the place. Astrid looked questioningly at him, "it's not right, the story tells it should be a place of peace."-leaving for Mushroom Bank-
