Just as Damien mentioned the forest would open up, the surroundings changed slightly. It became more overgrown and the trees was both taller and stood closer to each other. It was a slight change and wouldn't be apparent at first but as Damien reached the mentioned cliff he couldn't see the sky anymore and other than a small path ahead the shrubbery was so dense there was no way he would be able to get past. Not long after the mention of the fire, Damien would smell the distinguish smell of smoke from burning wood. Soon the sound of crackling fire and flickers of light in between the trees would join while the smell became stronger ending up becoming thick clouds which would scratch Damien's throat and make it hard to see much. A manical laughter was heard and a gastly, floated past upside down and dying from laughter and then all traces of fires disappeared and the forest looked normal and much less dense than before. Gastly seemed to collect itself from its fit of laughter and then looked eagerly at Damien, it looked tellingly to its right, and there, in the middle of nothing, a cirkle of black smoke appeared and in the middle of it, was the shrine. It was a portal! Directly to the shrine Damien sought! Gastly nodded eagerly and for a moment it looked helpful. No matter if Damien would try the portal or if he was too suspicious to test it, it would disappear in a puff of black smoke and the gastly would glare hatefully at the ranger with the chikorita. Shadows began to move around, ghostly memories of the lumberjacks who had once worked here and who continued with their work for all eternity, cutting down trees and carrying them away to nowhere and without making any progress. Water begun to trickle in as in the beginning of a storm surge, like a river which is flooding the areas around it. Gastly grinned again and without warning a downpour started from the clear sky, Damien could feel it but he didn't get wet. When the water trickling over the ground reached his feet though, his shoes would become wet. This was not the ghost's doing! Gastly [LV 16] is playing tricks on you! Weather will be floodingGo to battle here

[attr="class","tab dt-neutral"] [attr="class","tab dt-neutral"] [attr="class","tab dt-neutral"] [attr="class","tab dt-neutral"] [attr="class","tab dt-neutral"] [attr="class","tab dt-neutral"] Her huff was barely audible over the fizzle of the static and the ethereal. Her tail flicked in agitation a few times as she stood, ears back. Sharp eyes snapped back to the turtle. "T'tle," came Turret's voice echoing from within his shell held precariously by a small thick bush. His head popped out just after, returning the feline's glare with a look of disapproval. Andromeda's throat rumbled but her ally just shrugged once his shoulders were free from withdrawal. Once on the ground he turned away from her, leaving the luxio alone with her complaints.
Chikorita's high pitched whine wavered in the now quiet. It was a noise that tugged further into the empathy of those able to hear it, but Damien took it as a better sign than silence. His heart raced. His pants completely drenched and muddied, backside littered with with much the same, but standing. A solid sheen of fabricated energy dissipated behind the wartortle standing between himself and Andromeda. "Quick thinking." The ranger felt like he could breath again. A glance across the area saw no further signs of the devilish prankster.
"Come back Andromeda." His call was quickly followed up by the flash of a pokéball. "I really need to work on that temper of yours though." But that was for another time. He returned the grass type in his arms to a more comfortable position to hold, hoping he hadn't gotten her too wet. "You too Turret. I gotta move fast and it's too easy to lose track of someone in here." His companion frowned at the request but after a second of looking at the pitiful thing in the trainer's arms he didn't put up any resistance about it.
With both of his own pokemon secured Damien took a moment to re-observe his surroundings. "Need to go up..." he mumbled, wishing once again for many parts of this situation to be more favorable as he awkwardly glanced the face of his pokégear. The boy oriented himself as per its topographical marks and took a deep breath, feeling his chest continuing to pump hard. The water pooling along the ground was a sign of a potential flood plane, and with the skyward rumblings threatening him from afar he was keen on not dawdling in it.
It took a few minutes, but eventually he found a path around the steep edge that was definitely veering the right direction and he was sure he recognized from earlier.

Arriving from Ethereal LakeAfter his supernatural encounter with a lone spirit at Ethereal Lake, Venom found himself on a mission to locate some kind of item that would help him rid the Ilex Forest of a terrible curse. The only clue he had to go on was that this item once belonged to someone called the White Witch, but even with his vast amount of knowledge, Venom had no idea who that was or where this item might be now. Even so, anyone who thought that this would stop the ninja from completing his mission was wrong. So, upon arriving in the Cypress Rest, Venom got right to work. He began by questioning as many wild Pokemon as he could, hoping that since they lived in the Ilex Forest, they'd have at least some kind of idea or clue for Venom to go on. However, Venom kept his guard up as he did this, sensing that an evil entity was close by. OOC: Since Venom had to face every Wandering Spirit in each area he passes through, I now await Venom's encounter with the Wandering Spirit of the Cypress Rest.

As Venom tried to question the wild Pokemon in the Cypress Rest it was not long before the wandering spirit of the area caught wind of what he was trying to do. It kept it's distance at first darting between the trees waiting for the right moment to strike the ninja before he could react. As the spirit slowly got closer to it's target it started to speak in an ominous tone hoping to scare Venom off without needing to battle him if possible. " Get out, get out, leave this place or suffer our wrath!" As it spoke a thick fog started to cover the area as the Gastly finally showed itself to Venom and stuck out it's tongue. It realized a fight was the only way to chase him off by now but it could still try and catch the ninja off guard by trying to scare him. " You fool, you ignored my warnings so now you too shall suffer from our curse, prepare to meet you end and become one of us." Gastly then fired off a series of Night Shade to scare off any Pokemon that might be brave enough to get involved. Once Gastly was sure nothing would try their luck to save Venom it waited for him to make a move so that it could claim another victim. If Venom wanted to escape that terrible fate he would have to act quickly. Gastly (Level 16) wants to turn you into a victim of it's curse. Save yourself here.

After striking the final blow, Whirlipede landed safely on the ground and rolled back over to Venom's side, satisfied with their victory over the evil spirit. "And that's how we roll." The Poison/Bug type proudly declared, having gotten a bit stronger as a result of said victory in this battle. Venom and Whirlipede then watched as the spirit disappeared, but the ninja kept his eyes narrowed and refused to lower his guard. "We should go. In a situation like this, it's not wise to stay in the same place for too long. Especially when we have a sick Pokemon waiting for us. Good job, Whirlipede. Return for now." Venom called his Pokemon friend back to his red and white orb, took one last look around, then ran off towards the next area of the Ilex Forest, knowing that more evil spirits were likely waiting for him there.
OOC: Having defeated the Wandering Spirit in this location, Venom moves onto the Eerie Wood.

Coming from Ethereal Lake...
"It's okay Chikorita, we're going to take care of you and break this horrible curse. We promise," Aphrodite spoke softly to the grass-type Pokemon shivering and whimpering inside of her arms. After engaging with the spirit at the lake, Aphrodite and Titania had learned that the Chikorita is suffering from an evil curse that had been placed on her by some evildoer. According to the spirit, the only way to break the curse would be to take the Chikorita to the forest shrine to it be healed by the forest guardian. Now on a serious mission, Aphrodite and Titania felt more than motivated to save the ill Pokemon and rid the forest of the dark curse.
Seeking wandering spirit encounter.
Also, please replace Sentret with Alolan Ninetales.

Cypress trees were strange plants whose wide trunks shot up like towers within the dark reaches of the murky swamplands. The watery grounds stretched out in a webbing of strange wetlands mixed around the natural rises and falls of dry lands. Aphrodite would have to be especially careful as she trekked her way through Cypress Rest. Some spots where her feet touched would stick to her shoes and try to pull her in, while others provided strong banks where she could safely walk across. And still, some were a tangle of tall weeds that hid their murky depths from view and would cause her to plunge her feet through waters nearly as high as her knees or waste, if we wandered too far out into its murky depths. Darkness cloaked the land in an unnatural manner. A strange black fog swelled up over Cypress Rest and snaked its way around the tall, nearly barren trees that surrounded Aphrodite and her team. Strange eyes darted in odd patterns through the tangle of branches that stretched out far and wide in every direction. Loud hooting called in the distance and was answered with eerie chirps. Still, something hunted Aphrodite as she stalked her way through Cypress Rest. “Poooorrr unffooorrtunnaatteee sooouuulll!” The voice called out from behind Aphrodite’s back. Large black ethereal hands stretched out through the tall cypress trees. Their ghostly forms would shoot out through the trees as though their solid masses was just air itself, and tried to swipe at Aphrodite to seize the weak and injured plant Pokemon that she carried along with her through her trek. “Giiiiveeeee mmmeeeee thheeeee siiiiiccckkkk sssooouuuullll! Lllleeettttt meeeeee haaavvveeeee thheeee ssiiiiiccckkk Poookeeemooonnn!” The voice wailed, demanding that Aphrodite hand over the poor Chikorita at once and would try to yank Chikorita out of her grasp if she wasn’t careful. A strange floating ball of gas appeared in the blink of an eye and floated high above Aphrodite with a devilish grin. An Evil spirit wants Chikorita's soul! Level 16 Gastly. Decide what Aphrodite will do here.

A wide and proud smile spread across Aphrodite's full lips as she watched Titania's powerful Psychic take out the evil spirit. "You're going to be fine. I told you that we're not going to let anything happen to you," Aphrodite spoke softly to the Chikorita, gently rocking it in her arms to comfort it. "Thank you Titania, let's get out of here in case another one of those spirits decide to appear," she added with a gentle smile.
Headed to Eerie Woods...

Kumaneko moved through the forest ahead of her trainer on the tip of her nimble feet. She was angry and vengeful. She wanted to seek out these strange spirits that chased her kind away from their reclusive homes along the nearby routes of Azalea, forcing them to inhabit backyards and steal from the townsfolks’ small gardens just to survive. They were cruel and corrupt things that seemed to poison and taint anything they touched, though Kumaneko just knew she would ensure that they wouldn’t be able to poison anything else once her team was finished with them. “Hurry!” Kumaneko growled loudly. “This way!”
Mishu followed slowly behind. She had to be careful of the rotten logs and above ground roots that created obstacles along the way. With Chikorita carefully tucked against her chest in her arms, Mishu would take large steps over the tall roots and gentle, deliberate steps through the rotten logs that gave way to her weight. Mishu had to be slow – painfully slow – and deliberate with every move, so she wouldn’t tumble or trip and risk dropping the wounded Chikorita carelessly so. “Kumaneko, wait up!” Mishu called out through the tall cypresses that enshrouded them along the way. “I have to be careful with our friend!”
Both of their eyes were sharp, hunting through the overgrown plants that inhabited the area. The reddish brown barks offered no trade secrets, though their many knees that prodded just above the surface and hid underneath the littered leaves on the ground tried to trip the unsuspecting trainer. Bald Cypresses pushed through the waning waters of nearby swamps and widened near their base, like they were fattened before they chose to swim in the water’s murky depths. Was there some past, tortured soul out here? Evil by virtue of being tethered to the physical realm with no physical body of its own? Such an evil soul that sought only to hunt down and take the life of another as their own? She pressed on as anxiety over the moment seized her heart.

Fueled with the traumatic memory of her home destroyed by the evil spirit who were once men, the Pancham hurried along the cypress forest to seek her revenge. Unbeknownst to her, her internal wrath had been detected by the vengeful spirit inhabiting this area. "Heeheee" A menacing voice seemed to echoed in the forest as they were spotted. "Joooooiiinnn uuuussss!" the evil presence made itself known, floating in front of the Pancham and her tailing human. Its eys stared straight on, either fixated on the Pancham or the human. Its smile was grinning more than a Gastly usually would, as if it was wider, or sharper teeth, or shinier teeth. "Reevenngeeee. Foorrreeevveer!" The spirit taunted Kumaneko, to join them in the afterlife of vengeful inhabitance, residing in the Ilex Forest labyrinth to torment those who entered. "Revengeeee, tooogetherrr!" It laughed manically, bobbing up and down in the air, awaiting their response.

Even though they won the fight without much of a struggle, Ika floated in place and stared at the spot where Gastly disappeared with a soft sadness. She wasn’t sure how to feel in the moment. The battle wasn’t something she thoroughly enjoyed. Whether Gastly was truly evil or just a lost soul that could have been helped with more time and patience, she’d never know. “At least Chikorita is safe.” The words were empty and hollow. While she was truly happy that she’d kept the other soul safe, she lamented the fact that she wasn’t able to help save Gastly in the end. “But does it really change things if we aren’t able to help the tortured soul?”
Kumaneko growled as she clenched her jaw and stared angrily into the distance. These evil spirits caused her so much heartache. She could never return to her old home. They chased her out long ago, where she was fated to meet with Mishu and inevitably would be captured. “Good riddance.” The small panda snapped, holding her claws in fists so tight that her nails pushed past her short fur and scraped the topmost layer of her skin. It wasn’t enough to break the skin open and cause her to bleed, but it was enough to peel back small bits of the epidermis. “They chased my family out of their homelands. They are not good souls.” She growled underneath her breath.
Ika turned to Kumaneko and tilted her head as the rains poured down around them. Paralysis still seeped through her veins, causing her pain. Her friend was something completely different than herself. “I wonder why, though.” Ika stated quietly to herself, though the words were not lost to Kumaneko. “Maybe the souls need to move on to their final resting place. It would protect your homelands from further invasion if we approached it from a place of understanding, wouldn’t it?” Ika floated over to Kumaneko and placed a single tentacle on the small bear’s shoulder. Kumaneko shrugged it off with an angry huff. “Understanding?!” She growled loudly.
What understanding was she lacking? Did they understand the pain they caused when they poisoned the drinking water along the route? Did they show understanding as they haunted Kumaneko and her family? Was their understanding for the weak and frail when they gobbled up their souls and stole them away forever? “What kind of understanding am I supposed to offer them when they showed us none?! The world isn’t a rosy place full of ideals! It’s a cruel place where you have to fight for your own safety, your own rights, and your own protection! Open up your eyes, Ika!” Kumaneko turned and fled through the forests again, chasing after the rest of these evil spirits. Mishu and Ika were left with no other choice but to chase after her in a hurry.

Coming from Ethereal LakeWith the Chikorita on her hands, cradling like a giant baby bean, Penelope began looking for those evil spirits to smite in the Ilex Forest. Following behind her, was the Bellsprout and Skiddo, also to help with the search. The more eyes and ears, the better for looking for some mean ghosts to fight. The rain continued to pour on with the interjecting lightning and thunder, but there hadn't been any sign of ghosts yet. She put one hand above her eye lids, or under her forehead, and looked around. It was either she's looking for the ghost, or they looked for her! Zuroy popped out of her Pokeball again to enjoy the rain, but also that she detected something she'll gladly throw hands with in this stormy weather! As if these haunted woods weren't scary enough, the unending rain only increased the paranoia and terror that was the shadows and specters hiding from sight. It worked out great for them, but not so much for Penelope and her team. Not only were they getting drenched due to the horrific summer weather in this section of the forest, but they were on their toes knowing that a ghost would pop up eventually. What they didn't know was which ghost would appear and how dangerous or scary would it be. Granted, fear is relative, some people are afraid of everything and some fear nothing. The question here is, where does Penelope fall? Would her fear get the better of her? Voices seemed to creep through the forest with the party, egging them on or perhaps trying to get them to turn around. After all, restless spirits just want peace. Unfortunately, the sick Chikorita seemed to be acting like a beacon and after one particularly nasty twitch and spasms, a cloud of purple haze seemed to appear in a part of the clearing. If Penelope looked closer, she'd see that the purple ball of energy had a pair of eyes, and it seemed to be laughing at her. "Beeee gone! You can't help the cursed!" it said, in plain English so that everyone could hear it. Level 16 Gastly appears 1 Potion deducted from inventory

The Gastly was be moaning something, but Penelope didn't pay much attention to it since it was rainy and loud, but she was sure the ghosted wanted a soul. She held the Chikorita carefully as it was suffering and twitching in its bad dreams. She'll have to keep vanquishing these ghosts. The spirit was no match to Azumarill's agile water fueled Aqua Tail. Penelope did noticed a weird scene played out in the air, and she wasn't sure if she was hallucinating, but she can't ask anyone either since it was just her right now in the forest. Maybe this was related to the curse that was laid on the grass type? But how? Going to Eeriee Wood

With the sick chickorita in his arms, Silas looked around for signs of that supposed evil spirit. He wasn't quite sure he believed in such things, but he did know that the shrine felt...eerie. Upsettingly so. And he felt watched by unseen eyes afterwards.
"Keen an eye out you two," he told his pokemon. Mercenary sniffed around as Syn landed in a tree, cawing softly as he scanned the area for threats. There was a rustle, and houndoom growled at it, but there was a strangeness to the air that had Silas shuddering. He moved the chika to rest in one arm and he fished out another pokeball. "King, if you see any evil spirits, bite them."
If Shinya walked in on this sight, it probably would just confirm that Silas was not one of the good guys. Or he just had very strange tastes in pokemon. A houndoom, a honchkrow and now a raticate? Not exactly the sleek, soft pokemon one expected of a businessman.
King looked around, his fur standing on end. But he was ready and oddly rather willing to bite anything that got in his way right now.
