The Looks
HEIGHT 5’ 11”
BUILD Slight but Muscular
SKIN TONE Light Tan
HAIR COLOR Golden Blonde
EYE COLOR Bright Green
VOICE Mellow but QuietAt five-foot-eleven, Kieron is a fairly tall fellow. Sure, he isn’t overly tall but he doesn’t need height to win anything. For the most part, he is a gangly looking fellow. Long and thin is the best way to describe him. Having represented the man of the family for so long, Kieron did a lot of heavy work and worked for his grandfather when needed. This built his body to at least hold a muscular quality necessary for the life he lead for the while he lived in Ecruteak. So delicate is off the menu. He withholds the hardiness from the eyes but he is durable in body. It is hard to find Kieron standing straight since his laid-back attitude often has him slumping instead of really holding himself right. Anybody that meets him should be used to him looking as such. He has a somewhat rounded face, no harsh lines. Smooth, while not so much in personality, is good for his appearance. Smooth shaved, smooth moving, smooth in build- smooth is what he is.
His skin is lightly tanned thanks to having lived working around outside. It isn’t intensely dark but enough to not be sickly pale either. His hair is a darker, golden shade of blonde. Oddly enough, it seems to have been infused with some brunette though out. It is messy and generally unkempt in its own way, long enough to brush the back of his neck. Never longer though as that would be far too much. Bangs sweep over his face, sometimes covering his eyes of bright green. No, not unusually shiny or anything but just clearly green. Not a haze of brown to confused people. They’re his father’s eyes, so his mother says. Sometimes the memories are too hazy to clearly remember the true color of his father’s eyes though.
Kieron has a few piercings in his left ear, silver rings. One on the lobe and one on the upper ear. He had them done not long after leaving his home, wanting to fully live in the dream he had planned as a kid about a mysterious traveler. Well, mysterious may not exactly be the case but it could be! He is always wearing a silver chain which holds a charm at the end in the shape of a wave of water. He keeps it well tucked into his shirt in memory of his father and his dreams which he wants to keep close to his heart. Besides that, his clothing tends to be “clean but comfortable.” Normally he will wear a loose button-up with a similarly loose jacket of some kind. Jeans make up a lot of his wardrobe. Rarely will anybody find him in anything that isn’t something nice and comfortable. Can’t enjoy yourself if you’re not comfortable, right?
The Attitude
LOVE Travelling, Night Sky, Solitude
LIKE Training, Battling, Swimming
DISLIKE Commitment, Big Cities, Rushing Things
HATE Hustle-bustle, Anything against his family, Weaknesses
FEAR Feeling Powerless, Losing loved ones, DeathIt can seem easy to have Kieron fade into the background. But there are many things about him that are actually truly admirable and noticed. For one, he is a dedicated traveler. He always wanted to travel the Johto region and explore places he had never been before. With his father having been a sailor, he became adjusted to the idea of the unknown. It wasn’t that he had an adventurous streak in him but rather a natural sailor’s heart, wanting to set out into the world. It also explains his deep love for the water pokemon. Surrounding himself with them would be a pleasure but it isn’t as simple as asking pokemon to follow, right? But to add onto that, large groups are not his favorite either. He had one pokemon truly involved in his life and his family as not entirely large. Having spent his life on the outskirts of Cianwood and then in the lazy town Ecruteak, a hectic lifestyle isn’t for him. There is no such thing as the “rush” of life and many think he could just be a killjoy. Not that it’s the case. He just likes the calmness that life can sometimes offer. Casual is the best way to describe him.
Though he has a few issues that he prefers to keep under his calm and carefree attitude. That’s actually mostly a cover up because, in truth, he’s a worry wart to the extreme. After his father passed, Kieron took it onto himself to be a caretaker. He prefers to be in control because not having control on something draws bitter memories. If he is in control, he feels safe and secure. Not like the time his father went out and he could not stop the tempest that took him away. In a way, it is his biggest phobia in life. The feeling of worthlessness controls him if he feels he should have or could have done something and did not have the power to do so. It stems from his past. And that is why he covers it all up. Being weak is something he had to learn not to be as his siblings and mother did not need a weak boy to help in their growing up. They needed a man who did not cry and did not fear. Maybe that is why he acts the ways he does.
Some may consider his slack mouth a bit rude and sarcastic. Hence why he’s always been more of a pokemon over people guy as well. Kieron doesn’t mean to come off as rude but it comes too natural to him to just say what needs to be said. It’s a reaction to people since he prefers to keep few relations. He has a fear that stretches nearly into a phobia of losing people and death. He wouldn’t tell people this though. He worries daily over his family, if they are okay, if they’re in need of him. It was always a dream to travel but he got used to putting it aside to take care of the people he loved. He never wanted to see them come to harm, ever. Did anybody ever understand that his questioning youth left him with such fears? Perhaps true courage is withstanding fears even when they stare you in the eyes every day. If that is the case, then yes, Kieron has courage. He is a dreamer above all of this though. He dreams of his future, dreams of a family and wife, dreams of having travelled the world before coming home. But are they just dreams? Perhaps he had to push it aside, be a realist for a while longer. Then again, maybe dreaming is the reality now that he’s finally going out to attempt accomplishing these dreams. Maybe.
The History
FATHER Alroy Hayes deceased
MOTHER Sybil Hayes
SIBLINGS Brianna Hayes (sister), James Hayes (brother)Alroy and Sybil were the average couple. They worked normal jobs for the most part. Alroy was a fisherman that often went out to the rough seas by the Seafoam Islands. Sybil worked in Cianwood at the local mart. That was up until their first child. Kieron was what they named their first boy. His father proudly exclaimed that his son would one day take up the fisherman’s job just as the long line of Hayes had for years. It was a lot to put on a newborn but it was just a dream. Kieron spent most of his childhood by the sea thanks to growing up in Cianwood. His parents didn’t have any pokemon except for his father’s Samurott. Otto was very loving to the boy that grew up around him. This didn’t mean pokemon weren’t apparent to his life. Living on the sea meant he saw all kinds of water pokemon and birds that flew over the waters.
His life was very good. A loving mother and father with a protective samurott that cared for them. The only issue that seemed to appear was when Sybil and Alroy had their second child. Brianna, his younger sister, became the new spotlight. Kieron was six when his sister was born and it wasn’t very easy to deal with the shift. Brianna was loved by everybody and she was her daddy’s little girl. It was obvious that jealousy consumed him even at a young age. It was all petty but he was just too young to ever understand it. Two years later, James was born and Kieron felt very much in the background.
How could his parents simply ignore him? He was their first son! Kieron started to exclude himself from the social life of the other children and could be found spending more and more time with the samurott his father owned. Kieron would tell Otto that he’d just travel the world one day with him, then his parents would miss him. At nine years old, he was too young to understand that he wasn’t being forgotten. It wasn’t until that storm that he regretted his words so many times over. Yes, a storm. His father had gone out with the crew on a beautiful morning. To this day, Kieron can remember watching his father waving to him and his family as they went to the sea.
Then the storm hit.
Thunder cracked, lightning flashed, waves rolled, and it spelled for danger. How could one night turn their lives upside down? The ship never returned that night nor in the morning, not even when a week had passed. No sign of Otto or Alroy was made, not even of the ship that had taken him and five other men away from their shores. After a month, Alroy was declared dead because there could not be more time wanted on finding what they suspected would just be the remains of a crash. Kieron felt guilt from the very beginning as it had been his words of running away that had been said not the week before the storm had hit. How does a little boy deal with the loss of his father after showing bitterness like that?
Sybil took her three children away to live with her father in Ecruteak City. The quiet down and lack of salty air drove Kieron into a sorrowful state. He missed his father, he missed Otto, and he missed Cianwood. But that was where he stayed. Life just dragged on from there, guilt left on his shoulders and the dreams of being a traveler, one day a traveler of the sea, still lingered in his mind. He never wanted to be a sea-goer but he grew on it in memory of Otto and Alroy. His abhorrence towards his family and siblings faded instantly and he grew to appreciate them more than anybody would understand. In a way, he became the man of the household, trying to cover up what his siblings would never experience.
When he turned eighteen, his mother insisted that he finally go on his own. He was old enough to do what he wanted. Sybil had, unknown to Kieron, felt great guilt herself that he had to take up responsibilities and care for Brianna and James. He had deserved better than that. He was hesitant to leave his mother and siblings in his granfather’s care as he decided to leave for New Bark Town. His mother was right, it was time he became his own person. But the urges to be responsible for them never faded. So he arrived in New Bark Town, ready to begin what may have been a cliché dream, but a dream nonetheless.
He one day hopes he can have a samurott just as Otto was an perhaps write about his travels. But all in all, getting back to Cianwood and the sea is his biggest goal of all.
