Hometown: Small village in the Sumeria region (a non-canon region based off the Middle East somewhere across the sea and far to the west of Johto and Kanto, most of the area is covered in desert; the climate is very hot and dry)(hopefully this is allowed--her exact region of origin shouldn't have much of an effect on her character and I will change it to a canon region if necessary)
Appearance: Amira is decidedly average sized and rather plain. People look at her and think 'ah, she must be about twelve or thirteen'. She's just under five feet and maybe a LITTLE skinny at around ninety-five pounds. Her hair is a dark shade of brown, kind of thick and difficult to manage so she usually braids it or puts it in a ponytail. Her mouth and nose are small and her eyes are almond-shaped (dark brown, similar shade to her hair). Her skin is light olive but usually only her face and hands are visible (if even that much).
Because of her upbringing, she is prone to dressing conservatively. For traveling, she usually wears a black long-sleeved t-shirt and leggings under her clothes and will almost never be seen without a bandana or scarf in her hair (her favorite is dark red with an orange flower print so she often wears shirts and skirts or dresses that match with those colors). She wears a pair of short tan boots because she says they feel 'sturdy' and she likes having something heavy on her feet. She wears no jewelry or accessories aside from her bandana/scarf, a blue glass bead pendant given to her her three younger brothers (usually hidden under her shirt), and a pair of black and brown gloves.
She carries a rather large, rugged light brown back-pack with too many pockets to count (although she seems to have no problem finding her things).
Personality: Amira's defining traits are her maturity, over-preparedness, and flexibility. She enjoys learning new information and spent hours studying Pokemon back in her home region; she is fully aware she lacks real world experience and is eager to obtain it. She is a middle child with an older sister, an older brother and three younger brothers so she is used to blending into the background and taking care of herself, often to the point that she will start taking care of others and is reluctant to accept help. In that case, she can be a little stubborn.
She has a habit of packing more things than she should actually need, which comes in handy whenever she ends up in unplanned situations (there are no unplanned situations for Amira: only situations that other people think she shouldn't have bothered planning for but are glad she did). She doesn't have many strong desires of her own and is naturally curious so she often ends up tagging along with more strong-willed types. It's easy for her to 'go with the flow'. Unfortunately this also means it's easy for her to get caught up in trouble because she's not a very good judge of character.
She gets along with others easily enough, even people with personalities that some would consider abrasive. However, she doesn't usually make much of an impact. It's easy for people to forget her name and face. She has learned to use this to her advantage and can be a touch manipulative when the situation calls for it.
Her default expression in Johto has been staring vacantly at unfamiliar Pokemon and people from a distance with her mouth hanging open slightly, then drawing them and taking notes when she realizes what she's doing.
History: Amira grew up in the Sumeria region which only recently finished a war with their northern neighbor Asmara. In both regions Pokemon were primarily used as weapons for many generations, although once the war was over there interest in studying Pokemon grew. The current political state and harsh environment make it difficult (if not impossible) for one to go on a trainer's journey anywhere in Sumeria so anyone who is interested in Pokemon must go to another region to do so.
Amira was born years after the war and her interest in Pokemon started when she was very young. She earned a sort of scholarship after passing a trainer's examination that allowed her to travel to Johto to complete her trainer's journey. It was difficult for her to convince her doting yet overprotective father and strict mother to allow her to take such a journey, but after she provided sufficient well-researched information about Johto, they accepted. She recently relocated to Newbark Town where she started living with a host family.
Prior to moving to Johto, her family had a pair of Houndour and some of her the people in her town had Pokemon as pets or farm animals. She hasn't been exposed to many different types of Pokemon--most of her knowledge comes from books and online research.
Goals: Although she wants to collect all the badges and challenge the Elite Four in the Johto region, her eventual goal is to be a Pokemon professor back in Sumeria. Within the next few years she would also like to make journeys through Kanto, Sinnoh, Hoenn, and Unova.
Other Info: One of Amira's main themes is being a fish out of water. She's new to Johto, new to Pokemon, and still very young and naive.
