Pidgeotto twitched, rousing itself sleepily and looking around to get its bearings. Falkner pumped his fist in the air and whooped. "Quick! Use Gust!" The large bird spread his wings, gave a little hop-skip and was in the air again. He shook his head to help himself fully wake up as his powerful feathered movements stirred up a vicious wind. Bulbasaur found himself scooped up and catapulted across the field abruptly.
After the breeze died down the Grass type released another cloud of spores and felt the energy of Leech Seed revitalize him as Pidgeotto crash landed. Snoozing peacefully as the billowing dust and spores settled around him. Falkner cursed and covered his face again to avoid inhaling any of it in. At least his bird had taken out a chunk of Bulbasaur's energy, but to have his Pokemon fall asleep again felt like a step back.
Bulbasaur still lay exactly where it had fallen, smiling again now that his type-advantaged foe was down. It was an incredible boost to his self esteem to have lasted this long against a Flying type. He slowly got to his feet and took a few steps to see if anything was injured before looking back at Alex and nodding with an ecstatic "Saur!".
Falkner tried to keep his composure and a straight face though his eyes were slightly widened with panic and the corners of his mouth were ever-so-slightly down with disbelief. He had hoped the mud covered Bulbasaur would've taken more damage than that.

Alex, too, kept a straight face as soon as the Pidgeotto had awakened and fell back right into sleep. He had taken his patience, and he would continue with that.
"Saurobix, come back. You're up, Tackzill!" the type-disadvantaged trainer called. The Bulbasaur cheerily hopped back to enjoy the rest of the show while the Dustox next to the trainer flew toward the battlefield casually.
"Bulbaa--saur!" as the grass type took the place of Dustox on Alex's side, the Pokemon stretched his legs and relaxed himself.
As soon as the bug Pokemon entered the field, her eyes glowed a dim light-blue and prepared a mental attack on that flying bird, she hummed, "Dussst!

"Damn bird, resist sleeping!" Falkner grumbled under his breath. The boy with his type weak pokemon was beating him - BEATING - he just couldn't believe it! The gym leader tugged at his blue shirt and moved his weight from leg to leg as he stared at his bird, "Come on Pidgeotto, please wake up!" but the bird was giving no signs of awaking this round.
Falkner looked up expecting another attack from the boy's Bulbasaur but none came, instead there was a red light of him retrieving the bulb pokemon before he motioned to his Dustox by his side to enter the battle.
With that turn over the time on the clock slipped slowly by, it was just in the nick of time that Pidgeotto started moving around and stood up. He shook his head and looked around, yawning trying to remember what was going on. "Alright Pidgeotto!" Falkner cheered before looking over to Alex "You better be prepared to lose!" Falkner jeered before he directed his Pidgeotto to use a Gust attack.
Falkner had the upper hand for this portion at least as Pidgeotto took to the sky ready to please him after falling asleep twice. The poor bird was ashamed of messing up that it was gonna try to finish this battle as quickly as possible with this bug trainer.
When Falkner's Pidgeotto reached an ideal height it hovered there before flapping it's wings faster and faster until a huge gust of wind was buffeting Alex and Tackzill. The Dustox was hanging in there till it wasn't able to fight the wind anymore and was rushed back into Alex's chest who caught her. She crooned a sorry after the wind died.
Following Alex's instructions the moth caught the gaze of hte large bird. Her eyes locked with it and began to change to a dim light-blue. She was using her confusion attack as she was crooning words to the bird. When the attack stopped Dustox crooned in satisfaction as the bird looked around unable to understand what was going on.

Well, finally the Pidgeotto woke, Alex thought. Thankfully his Dustox's confusion actually confused his opponent. There wasn't many things left to do in this battle now. He folded his hands and inhaled deeply to relieve the pressure.
"Alright, Tackzill, Confusion again!" he ordered, and watched as his Dustox's eyes glowed a light blue to prepare to squish some bird brain.

Falkner watched helplessly as his father's prized bird panicked. His wing movements were awkward and out of sync, barely keeping him in the air. Feathers floated down as high above the disoriented Pidgeotto swerved out of control, side-swiping a wall before straightening out again.
Another barrage of Confusion flooded the field with its blue aura, washing over the avian Pokemon. Then the tiny leaves woven deep in the bird's plumage lit up an eerie green color and drew more life out of him. The young gym leader looked away, his face scrunching up. This was supposed to be an easy match, how could things have gone so wrong? Was it because he had underestimated his challenger?
Pidgeotto was breathing heavily, the room spinning around him. He felt light headed as he tried to focus on his opponent. The bird cawed angrily. Was he really about to let 'lunch' beat him?

Alex wasn't ready to relax yet, despite the Pidgeotto was showing signs of fatigue. Instead, he kept his serious face and continued watching. Saurobix next to him, too, was slightly anxious about the end battle results. The plant Pokemon wondered if this plan would work that his trainer had been planning.
"You're doing great, Tackzill! Use Confusion again!" he ordered. The Dustox's eyes once again glowed a light blue.
He looked at the Pidgeotto and was slightly concerned if it would wake up from the Confusion next turn.

Falkner had one chance to turn this around. He looked full of heroic angst as he stared up at his Pidgeotto. What else could he do? This was one of the most earth shattering battles he had ever been in as everything turned against him. But perhaps all was not lost.
"Pidgeotto! Roost!" The bird stared at the ground, trying to get a grip before tilting his wings to swoop down. The air fluttered his feather tips as he smoothly and steadily descended at a steep angle, eager to land and rest. The avian felt confident he could do this. For a brief moment everything was right. His depth perception was way off though, and his trainer realized too late as he screamed, "No...NOOO! PULL UP!" The confused Pidgeotto crashed into the floor with a sickening thud.

Falkner closed his eyes, looking like the wind had been knocked out of him. He reminded himself this was nothing the Violet City Pokemon Center nurse couldn't fix in a heartbeat and opened his eyes again to stare at his unexpected victor while he returned his Pokemon. He muttered in slight awe, "I can't believe it," before reaching into his pockets for a few things and walking over to Alex.
"Congratulations, challenger....You won the Zephyr Badge." He didn't sound bitter, rather unexpectedly impressed. The young man handed the badge, a TM, and a wad of cash to Alex. "The TM is Roost. It will restore half the max HP when used." He paused and smiled. "Tell Bugsy and the other gym leaders I say 'hi'." Which wasn't literal, but was his round-about way of saying he thought Alex was going to go far. If he could win a gym battle with a type disadvantage, well...Falkner was interested in what he'd do next. The gym leader casually saluted a goodbye and left the room to get his Pokemon checked up.
CONGRATULATIONS! Alex and his team have successfully defeated Falkner!  Tackzill is the Winner! Dustox gained 3 levels and grew to Level 18! Tackzill wants to learn Protect! Delete a move?  For participating, Saurobix gained 1 level and grew to Level 16!  Alex has gained the Zypher Badge  TM51 - Roost was obtained! Alex received a sum of £1560 for his victory!
......  .....  Saurobix is trying to evolve into Ivysaur! Do you want your Pokemon to evolve?

Alex burst out chuckling loudly, and at the same time trying to muffle his laughter. And so he did beat Falkner with his plan involving the type disadvantaged Dustox and Bulbasaur. This was an interesting experience. Though for now, he would need some more training before he fights Bugsy.
"I will tell them I say hi, Falkner! Thanks for the badge and the Technical Machine. You did well too!" he smiled joyously at the gym leader, who had been outright defeated by his carefully crafted strategy.
Not that he was going to say anything more, but Falkner already departed to heal up his birds. Carefully putting the prizes in his backpack, he was ready to depart too.
Instead, his Saurobix began glowing and evolving. A bright light emanated from the plant Pokemon's body as his body changed shape. Soon, the Bulbasaur looked tougher and came with a bud on his back. Alex smiled, petted his growing Bulbasaur-now-Ivysaur friend to congratulate him. He also held up a hand in the air wanting to pet his Dustox. Tackzill instead just fluttered up and down happily, too content to wanting to be petted.
"Alright, let's go before the storm gets worse!" the trainer shouted cheerfully as he turned around toward the door. The sound of the wind howling outside once again claim the mood of the quiet gym.
