I just found this interesting article on Cubed3.comIn the article they've got an interview with the president of the Pokemon Company which states that the games were intended to end with Gold and Silver. It wasn't until the staggering success of the games that they decided to continue on with them. And I am glad they did. Still, it's bound to be fuel for fire in some people's arguments about the series direction.

Wow! How different Pokemon would of turned out if Gold and Silver was the last. They might would of made a whole new anime series about Ash's daughter or something.

I doubt it, if the series would have ended at Gold and Silver then that would have been it. No more future anime stories from the games to be based off. Still, that whole possibility of a series finale to the anime with Ash's daughter traversing Johto and the being scrapped is now becoming more and more understandable considering that they realised just how profitable the games were. By keeping Ash in the anime and making future games it'd be selling on something familiar to fans.
I bet they had no idea the series would turn into such a worldwide craze... And be so incredibly lucrative. ;D

I guess it coud be true with it ending in GS days... I mean, look at the design of Pokemon between the first and second gen compared to the third when it came out. It almost felt like a knock-off because they probably hired somebody else to make the new Pokemon instead of the original artist.

While I can see where you're coming from I do know that it's the same artist throughout the entire series, Ken Sugimori. His artwork went from watercolours to this new updated quality art. I sort of prefer the watercolour style as it was pretty original.
The other thing is... Apparently Sugimori sketched out over a 1,000 Pokemon at the time of R&B. So it would seem they're still implementing Pokemon along the way from then. I bet a lot of them are getting unnecessary updates. >_>

They're all the same person? I didn't mean the style was different, like airbrush and stuff... I meant just they way they looked and felt. They seem different than the 2nd and 1st gen somehow. >>

It was probably the bigger transition. From Pocket to Color the only major change was the color feature and of course GS mechanics. However to the Advance the graphics, as well as ingenuity for newer and more catchy mechanics became harder. When you make a masterpiece it become harder to top it. Hence a majority of favor for GS.

There's a certain je ne sais quois differentiating them. There is some truth in what you say I believe but there's something more tangible than that. The way the very world and environment's breath. I'm not trying to say they're CHURNING out the newer renditions but I do believe that the games have become more of an obligation due to the profits to be reaped from them. There is a bit of lifelessness about them. A flatness. I definitely felt that in RSE but DPPtHGSS has remedied that slightly.

I feel you; RSE seemed like it was just there. I mean the first go through was fun, but after that it became a hassle; unlike the earlier games. However after that I think DDP and the remakes weren't made for the story, but rather to clean out the mechanics. I didn't care much for DDP other than for the split between physical and special attacks. And while the remakes are to make the older games more available I love the improvements given to both of them. I can't wait for another Red and Green remake in twelve years.

I loved the improvement of a physical and special split. In so many ways it makes a lot more sense. For example, why the hell would punches be classed as a special attack simply because they belong to a specific affinity? I always found that rather backwards but I was so glad to see that get rectified in the current generation's mechanics.
