Tanya stopped just before the entrance to the city, quiet and quaint given the late hour of her arrival. She'd trekked from the plantation and not rested once, determined to make it before the sunrise. Excitement buzzed through her, green eyes glittering with joy as she took in one of her favourite cities in the entire region. There was so much history here, the city rich in all kinds of lore, and it possessed an air that made one feel as if they had stepped back in time. Moka was puzzled by Tanya's thoughtful look and why she'd paused, uttering a questioning screech that brought a smile to her trainer's face. "Sorry Moka. It's been so long since I was last here. I just wanted to make this moment special," she replied with a laugh. But she was tired after the Sudowoodo ordeal, and her Pokémon deserved a rest too. Grateful to see the Pokémon Center so close, Tanya headed straight for it, making sure to heal her team before crashing for the night. Come morning, however, the clear weather had given way to a storm likely coming west from Olivine. Even dawdling for a while, switching her team around, gave enough time for the weather to lessen up, and so the redhead had gone out equipped for the conditions. Gray hoodie paired with her usual jeans and boots, and a spare umbrella in case the rain got too heavy, and Tanya was set to explore the route she'd hurried through the night before. While she enjoyed a good thunderstorm, it meant leaving her Pokémon safe in their respective balls unless they were needed for battle. "Ease up Thundurus!" Tanya muttered as a loud peal of thunder ripped through the sky. Yeah, what had she been thinking? Staying at the Center would have spared her soaked clothes and sloshing through the muddy terrain. Balking at adventure wasn't something a trainer was prone to, so she just had to suck it up and endure. Besides, she'd been through much worse weather-wise and come out just fine. The only Pokémon on her team that would possibly enjoy the storm was Skymerald, an Electrike she'd recently acquired, but her temperament made Tanya nervous about calling her out just for company. Biting down a sigh, Tanya stopped in her wandering and looked around, hoping something would show up to make this day less miserable, be it a person or Pokémon. ((Looking for any kind of encounter ~)) |

After having a good night's rest in the Pokemon Center, Tanya and her Pokemon were ready again to venture out in the neighboring wilderness of the Ecruteak City. Even the weather couldn't wait for Tanya, and came weeping in torrential rain to see if the girl would relive any memory associated with a rainy day. However, not all Pokemon enjoy parading in the rain. A lone Growlithe was venturing early this morning to find food to eat. Though it had no forecasting ability and found itself stranded and soaked in the weather. After all, Growlithe was a fire type, and it did not enjoy its attacking moves being weakened. How else would Vulpix defend itself if it was fighting another Pokemon for some resourceful food, or defend itself from a trainer... The thought of that coincidentally brought the fleeing Growlithe to encounter one. It knew that it couldn't really run away, even though the fire type was trying to run away from the weather. This was funny how a Pokemon could run away from the weather but not a human. What magic was this? The fire type sniffed the air, trying to detect if the human have any malicious scent or intent on her.
A (Level 25) Growlithe appeared! FIGHT OR FLEE? Weather= Rain in battle OOC: that should be a Growlithe because I thought it's night.

Standing out in the open in a steady downpour wasn't a wise idea, but she wouldn't be caught dead under a tree with lightning forking across the sky. Grumbling quietly to herself, Tanya fished out her umbrella and snapped it open, deciding to prevent her clothes from becoming completely sodden and heavy. It was bad enough she could feel water steadily finding its way into her boots, rounding out the simply lovely time she was having. ( Hmph, maybe I should just go back to the city and find something else to do...) There was plenty in the city to see, explore, and generally take in that would take her mind off the weather. Before she could commit entirely to the idea, something appeared in the rain not far from where Tanya stood, a familiar canine with an orange and black-striped pelt that seemed to be studying her. The Growlithe's arrival was more than enough to convince her to stay, presenting a chance to test out Skymerald in battle. Aside from her volatile personality, Tanya knew little about the Electrike, and summoned her after retrieving her ball out of curiosity to see how she would fare in this fight. Tossing her head with a loud snort, Skymerald was unimpressed to have been called out in the rain until a rumble of thunder brought some contentment. Tanya moved to look at the small green canine, wondering where the nasty looking burn across Skymerald's snout had come from. ( Oh, no.) A bad burn such as that could only be from a Fire type, and with one standing mere feet away from her Electrike... Skymerald's head lifted as she scented the air, pupils contracting as an all too familiar stench of fire came off of the other Pokémon. Red flashed briefly across her vision, recalling how that leering simian had made sure to give her a gift before she'd been forced into human servitude, reliving the agony of the Flame Burst once more. Breath coming in short, forced pants, Skymerald lifted her head and let out a thunderous roar, her rage made almost tangible with lightning dancing across the sky. "Skymerald, wait!" Tanya called, hand reaching out uselessly as an electrical field erupted around the infuriated Electrike, Skymerald sprinting full out towards the wild Growlithe. ((Move used is Spark.)) |

The Growlithe gave a growl as the trainer initiated a battle. If it wasn't raining, it would be pretty easy for the Growlithe to win due to its strength, but the rain was very weakening. Either way, the Growlithe decided that it had had enough of this trainer. Closing its eyes, the puppy Pokemon focused on bringing its inner fire to the surface. It took a few seconds due to the rain, but eventually the puppy was encased in a tongue of pure fire. Charging forwards, the Growlithe started spinning in a ball. While not the most effective method to attack the Electrike who was going after it, the Growlithe did manage to get a hit on Skymerald. It rolled back over to its side of the battle field before uncurling and standing up. Stumbling around for a second due to dizziness, it gave a howl once it was struck by the Electrike's Spark attack. Skymerald grunted as she was hit by the Flame Wheel. Thankfully it wasn't nearly as high powered as it could have been due to the rain. Pawing at the ground, the Electrike suddenly charged forward, only stopping a few feet away from the dizzy Growlithe. Her hairs began to rub together at extremely fast speeds to build the electricity. Once she was surrounded by a large enough yellow glow, she shot it towards the Growlithe with a bark. Trotting back to her side, Skymerald gave a smug look towards the Growlithe.

Tanya definitely hadn't been expecting Skymerald's violent reaction, the sheer spontaneity of it startling. Even having grown used to Starscream and his often nasty temperament had not prepared her for this, losing control of her own Pokémon with not a single thing she could do about. Grip tightening painfully on the handle of her umbrella, Tanya could only watch as the two Pokémon clashed, Growlithe shrouding itself in flames and wheeling towards the charging Electrike. It was a move that almost confused her, what with the pouring rain likely dampening the flames, but Skymerald's furious snarl cutting through the air signified it had done its job. 'Filthy mongrel! I will make you choke on those flames!' Skymerald raged, unrepentant as she finished her attack in furious retaliation. Still panting hard while skipping back a few steps, the Electrike tilted her head to the side, as if studying her opponent. "Hey! Skymerald!" Tanya called, voice rising above the rain, meeting Skymerald's glare with one of her own. "There's no rushing blindly into battle and doing your own thing. If you want to fight, you listen to me! Do I make myself clear?" she continued, mouth a hard line of anger to match the fire in her green eyes. Skymerald bared her teeth in response, fur bristling at the thought of having to obey yet another human. Unfortunately, much as she begrudged this girl for daring to control her, the ball she was bound by said otherwise. Frustration won out and left Skymerald stamping in the mud, turning her back on Tanya and constricting her throat with rage. Fine. She would let this human think she would obey her, and then she would eventually evolve and find a way to break free. "I'll take that as a 'yes ma'am'," Tanya said in a dry tone, easing the death grip on her umbrella and flicking damp hair from her eyes. "Another Spark, then." Chuffing, Skymerald wasted little time in setting out for Growlithe again, electricity already dancing across her lithe body. |

The electric pup with her wily, spit-fire spirit seemed to rouse a bit of courage in the Growlithe, despite the weather and it's doused flames. As timid as it had been during the start of the battle, the raging fire within Growlithe lived on, untamed and unbent by the howling rain outside. The shocking jolts that Skymerald had so aggressively given stung, but the Growlithe would not balk or bail. It contemplated the curiosity of it's inability to flee from a human in battle, and chalked up the phenomenon to the undying spirit and relentless competition between the electric hound.
Growlithe could see the tension between the trainer and Pokemon, and decided to use said tension to it's advantage. At this point, weren't trainers and Pokemon supposed to be inseparable? Aside from a few strange encounters (Growlithe did recall seeing a strange man in a coat with strange, stinky Pokemon with im...) most people seemed to be bonded already. As the Electric hound growled and bit her tongue, Growlithe inhaled and prepared it's fires for another go. It seemed as though Skymerald was rip, roaring and ready to go. The element of surprise had been lost as Growlithe and Electrike hurtled towards eachother with their elemental attacks.
In a clash of power, sparks and embers flared as the two hounds slammed into eachother, immediately halting to a stop rather abruptly. Shaking it's head, Growlithe stumbled back onto it's feet, checking it's body to make sure the piercing electricity had spared it's limbs of paralysis. Skymerald did the same, but instead checking for raw spots and burns. Both hounds seemed to walk away relatively unscathed, although Growlithe mourned it's normal power. Skymerald would have been ashes had it not been for the rain. The soggy reminder of type advantages hung wet in the air, much like the smell of the wet hounds. Skymerald's grudging cooperation made Tanya relax enough to watch this second round unfold, both combatants repeating their previous moves in a wicked clash of elements. She was suddenly grateful for the rain, knowing it would lessen the damaging effects of Growlithe's fire on Skymerald. ( I'll definitely be sure to avoid sending her out against a Fire-type again. Did NOT expect her to take a trip on the crazy town express.) Biting her lips against the smiled that threatened to show, Tanya winced faintly as the two canines collided in a dazzling display of sizzling fire and crackling electricity. Rolling her shoulders as she sprang back, Skymerald was a bundle of rage-fueled adrenaline, fur standing on end even against the onslaught of rain. 'You will not best me, mutt. I am thunder incarnate, the rage of the gods given form to strike you down!' she all but howled, tossing her head with an angry snort. Behind her, Tanya raised a brow, the questioning look on her face disappearing in a flash as a brief gust of wind blew the smell of wet dog towards her. "Dios mio! My poor nose!" she gasped, fanning the air in front of her face with her free hand. Skymerald turned her head incredulously; this moronic girl was more concerned about her offended sense of smell than the battle? She would be wrong there - Tanya was already reaching into her bag, having made a decision while her Electrike had been babbling. The scent had only distracted her, such a wretched stench that the girl had not factored into her choice of Pokémon. Lightning speared through the clouds, flash reflecting off the black and yellow device clutched between rain-slicked fingers, a snarl appearing on Skymerald's face. Oh how she detested any sort of ball, knowing her servitude was due in part to them. Even knowing it would remove this mongrel from her sights, the Electrike watched with deep unhappiness as Tanya tossed the Ultra Ball through the rain at Growlithe. ((Used x1 Ultra Ball. Skymerald's aggression seemed to be a bit much for the Growlithe as it attempted to nurse it's wounded body. Moving hurt and it couldn't help but feel the twang of bitterness at the rain. Had Growlithe not been handicapped this match, the Electrike would be singing an entirely different tune. However, there she was, growling and grumbling while Growlithe attempted to keep itself up on all four paws. The rain made it's coat feel heavier, almost as heavy as it's enthusiasm with continuing on with the battle. At this point, dealing with the Electrike was a bother and the rain didn't help. It'd rather just faint at this point than continue on. As Skymerald swung her head back to taunt Growlithe further, the hackles of the hound rose and flames snorted from the pup's nostrils. As infuriating as she was, the Electrike was a good opponent. Readying itself for another attack, Growlithe waited for the right opportunity. The element of surprise was lost last round, but perhaps it'd have better luck this time. As fate worked it's magic, Skymerald turned her head to look back at her trainer. It was the perfect time! Cloaking it's body in flames once more, Growlithe began to rocket towards the distracted Electrike. The source of the distraction hadn't crossed Growlithe's mind. It figured it was a trainer and Pokemon thing that the Growlithe didn't understand or care to. However, Pokeballs were a different story. Growlithe caught the glint of the ball from the contrast in coloration from the yellow against the night sky. Before Growlithe could skid to a halt to avoid the capsule, it was already touched and sucked into the ball with a brilliant flash of bright red light. No matter how hard it struggled, it was locked inside. The ball shook many times, and finally, Growlithe had given up. It had been bested, but perhaps if this trainer kept it along, it'd have the chance to finally trounce that stupid, mouthy Electrike. Successful Capture! Congratulations! Tanya's eyes widened as the Growlithe made another rush clad in flames, trying to take advantage of Skymerald's temporary distraction. Flashing a snarl echoed by the sky above, Skymerald stepped forwards in challenge, momentarily forgetting the device that soared through the rain. Holding back a growl, she could only watch as the Ultra Ball drew her foe inside, hitting the ground with a loud splash. It stopped shaking rather quickly, invoking more of her ire - the mutt was such a weakling it couldn't even break free of a simple ball. 'No match for me or even my trainer. Pathetic. I hope she gets rid of you soon,' the Electrike muttered with one last sneer. Making her way over to the motionless ball, Tanya knelt down and scooped it up, giving it a careful shake to rid it of the mud it had landed in. "At least that's done with. Alright Skymerald, time to ret-- huh?" As she'd been speaking, Tanya had looked at her partner and was startled into silence by a brilliant flash of light. For a moment she'd mistaken it for a lightning strike, a thought closer to the truth than the girl realized. The light swelled up brighter, Tanya belatedly realizing it heralded evolution, and couldn't suppress a joyful grin upon seeing the proud, haughty Manectric that stood in Skymerald's place. 'This power...!' Skymerald rumbled, red eyes gleaming with anticipation as she wheeled on her trainer. The storm above appeared to be reacting to her presence, with lightning frequenting the clouds at an alarming rate. 'You allowed me to unlock this potential. For that, I am... grateful. But I will not heel to your commands any longer!' the Manectric huffed, frowning as nothing more than mild surprise registered on Tanya's face. Was this idiot girl unaware of the danger she was in? "Not sure what you're yipping about, but time to go back in the ball," Tanya said, oblivious to the outraged cry cut short as she recalled Skymerald. Tucking the ball away, Tanya turned back towards the city, torn between a longing to explore it to escape the rain and the desire to train her team. Morty was no pushover, and she wanted to be completely prepared for battling him. ( I guess it couldn't hurt to look at the Burned Tower. I've earned a break from training, and I'm sure my Pokémon would like a rest too. Alright.) Nodding to herself, the redhead adjusted her umbrella and headed into the city, determined to make the best of what remained of the day. What better than exploring a tower shrouded in all kinds of mystery? ((Passing over Bite, and putting this on hold!)) |

Under the clear night sky on Route 37, it was hard to believe what she'd been through over the past little while. Leaning up against a tree, Tanya nursed a hot chocolate in a cup to combat the worst of the chill, while Nyx kept a careful eye on things from her lofty position in the sky. Meeting some legendaries, battling an old samurai ghost... yeah, life had been nothing short of interesting lately. Yet, it was nice to just enjoy a calm night and relax with her Pokemon, all of them sprawled about in various states. Saphira and Falchion, the newest addition to her team, stuck closest to Tanya and appeared content in just being outdoors. Astrid was inspecting the trees with a sour look, Yoshi lounging a short distance away with her eyes closed as if the Frogadier were sleeping. Nyx was the only one in constant movement, keen vision sweeping over the area to check for any threats heading their way.
Tanya took a sip of her cocoa, grinning at Saphira when her Charmeleon shifted even closer to offer the warmth of her tail flame. "Thanks, Saphy," Tanya said, reaching out with one hand to affectionately pat her partner. Considering what Saphira had also been through, Tanya was delighted her usually timid Charmeleon was taking it all in stride, sweet nature unaffected. Maybe it meant Saphira had gained some maturity as she progressed closer to evolving, something that gave Tanya pause. She hadn't thought much of Saphira evolving anytime soon, green eyes filled with curiosity as Saphira turned away to try and gesture wildly at Astrid. Knowing what Saphira would evolve into didn't lessen the impact it would have, and Tanya wasn't sure if she was looking forwards to or dreading the moment it happened.
Nyx let out a sudden, sharp caw, drawing all eyes up to the circling Honchkrow. She was hovering in place, wide wings almost beating silently as she peered down through the trees at whatever was coming their way. Tanya straightened up, setting her hot cocoa aside to quickly figure out what to do, whistling at Nyx for her attention. "Use Night Slash!" she ordered, looking tentatively at the trees. Her nerves were maybe more than a tad shot after the experience with the ghost samurai, and she hated to react by asking Nyx to rain hell upon whatever was there. But there was nothing to do now as Nyx descended, eyes shimmering with the excitement of battle and talons eagerly outstretched.
(Ordering Night Slash x2 with Running Shoes. Also noting use of a Return TM on Angelus.)

A spot of black against the navy starlit sky shot out of the trees once the battle cries had been sounded. Nyx's deep throat caw splitting through the quiet night and Tanya's voice commanding the first move. The wild pokémon quickly sized up the encounter and thought it had it all figured out. Nyx was a familiar sight to say the least. Bigger, stronger, sharper. As the honchkrow hovered above her pre-evolution zoomed up toward her, a sparkle in those hollow red eyes. However, the murkrow had miscalculated. While Nyx was indeed bigger and stronger she was also slower. And thus its whole plan fell apart. As the small crow grew closer and closer there was a falter in its resolve as it realized Nyx was still readying her own attack. The darkness pokémon cawed its frustration, redirecting its trajectory to only graze the larger bird instead since a weakness hadn't been provided. Anything was better than nothing, though, now it had its tail feathers toward the Big Boss, which in the next moment proved to be less than ideal as a camouflaged strike swept through the night skies and cut across the smaller avian. Dislodged feathers poofed into the air as Murkrow expertly flailed to regain control of its path after the slash. Gaining a bit more distance before turning round to give a huff. Well, if it had speed on its side then it might as well take advantage of it. A flash of energy swelled out from the bird. A similar ethereal surge began building around Nyx until suddenly escalating into a climax of a harrowing pulse. It seemed to attack her very soul, and while had no trouble overcoming her defenses it was quick to dissipate. Nyx was quick to return the pleasantry. With all eyes on her, it was a good thing Nyx wasn't the sort to shy away knowing she had an audience. Rather, this served to boost her ego - if she battled well here, then there'd be no doubt of her power to any of Tanya's Pokemon who thought otherwise. All talk and no real bite, she'd heard. Well, if she couldn't handle an uppity Murkrow who'd had the ill luck to wander too close, then she deserved to have those rumours instigated. Despite all her swaggering, however, her greater bulk meant she was at the mercy of her much smaller kin, whose size lent it the edge in speed. "Whoa-ho! Thought better of trying to get the drop on ME?" Nyx guffawed as the Murkrow simply grazed her after its change of heart. She wasted little time in teaching the smaller crow a lesson without a shred of pity. She'd learned as a young Murkrow that faltering in the face of a challenging fight would only end badly, and whilst she still felt affection for her previous form, the opportunity to better herself AND the Murkrow was too good to pass up.
As the two birds whirled about, Tanya and the rest of her team watched with a range of emotions visible, from shock to disinterest. Yoshi was one of those eyeing the battle with rapt eyes, following every move as if to somehow glean from them. Saphira glanced away after a moment to grab Tanya's hot cocoa and gently coax it back into her trainers hand, more concerned with keeping the redhead warm than anything. Tanya accepted the still warm drink with a soft laugh, breath puffing out in the brisk night air. Her mother would find Saphira's caring rather adorable if she mentioned it, but Tanya didn't want them somehow conspiring to keep caring for her without being obvious about it. She was old enough to mind herself... and it wasn't entirely her fault she had the occasional mishap. Hiding her grin into her drink as she sipped, Tanya flicked her gaze up again to the circling avians.
Murkrow's impressive Night Shade drew a noise of discomfort from Nyx, the sensation one she particularly disliked being inflicted on her instead of from her. She struck out and then beat her wings to give them some space, crimson eyes bright. This was Tanya's call, if she wanted Nyx to proceed, or if she would intervene and attempt a capture. Or she could have Nyx return for someone else to fight, an idea the Honchkrow found herself heartily disliking. Tanya stood, the movement catching Nyx's eye. "Give it a taste of its own medicine - Night Shade!" Tanya called up, glad she'd been able to identify Murkrow's attack. Approving of her trainer's decision, the Dark-type turned a wickedly delighted expression on her foe. Payback was going to be sweet.

It was an interesting match up to say the least. Murkrow hadn't ever expected to be faster than the boss pokémon. It left it at a bit of a loss of how to proceed in attacking, but at the same time gave it an ego boost. The young crow flapped in the air near erratically with its stamina nearing its end but it let out a fearsome squawk nonetheless. Building up its strength the smaller black feathered bird started gliding forward again. This time, though, its wings began shining. It was a simple head on attack. Not the smartest, but it was a strong move. Not as much so compared to what it could have done with a repeat Night Shade of course, but the young avian hadn't quite picked up on just how taxing that had been for Nyx considering the honchrow's facade. No matter what the Murkrow could have done Nyx was confident in success. She weathered the hit with a mere huff as the solid wings slammed into her; a smile curling at the edge of her beak. Whirling around to lock back onto the circling crow she unleashed her own Night Shade. The familiar dark energies enveloped the wild pokémon as it desperately tried to flap harder and harder to avoid the attack. An ear splitting crow shook the trees as it went down, crashing somewhere in the bushes nearby. Nyx gained 1950 EXP and +1 Happiness! (+9) Yoshi grew to LV 21 thanks to EXP Share!

Nyx seemed more amused than ever when Murkrow tried sweeping in with a Wing Attack, taking the blow in stride owing to her confidence that she would be victorious here. And win she did, sending the Murkrow tumbling through the air with a definitive strike and descending to where her trainer and fellow Pokemon waited. "You enjoyed that a bit too much," Tanya noted with a grin, glad Nyx was more than able to handle herself - as well as set an example for the newer team members. The Honchkrow chuckled, tipping her head back with eyes closing as she rested from the exertion of battle. Tanya looked round at the rest of her Pokemon as they went back to their various activities with the conclusion of the action, eyes speculative. Not fully knowing what wild Pokemon lurked out on the route, she didn't want to blindly send them into battle and have them pay for it.
It was only luck Nyx hadn't found anything worse than a stray Murkrow to fight. Tanya leaned back against the tree, peering into her empty cup before placing it in her bag to toss later. Falchion floated over to his trainer, close enough that the cloth on his sword hilt brushed against her shoulder. Tanya had to restrain the urge to brush it away, having read up on Honedge out of sheer curiosity. Having her life drained by touching that cloth wasn't something she planned on happening any time soon - or ever. But the redhead still turned and smiled at the ghostly sword, earning her a happy spin on the spot from Falchion. He couldn't speak, though that wasn't a problem for communication. After all, she did just fine with Aster around.
Tugging her coat around her a little more tightly, Tanya clapped her hands to get her team's attention. "Okay, I need everyone on alert. But don't go charging at anything that might come up to us before I get a chance to decide who can fight," she said, staring at each Pokemon in turn to make sure they understood. Nyx tucked her wings more tightly against herself, deciding she'd earned a short reprieve, though she remained awake and aware in case Tanya called upon her. Saphira stuck close to Tanya as usual, tail flame offering enough warmth to combat the night's chill and some illumination to spot anything that might come close. With all her Pokemon out, it was unlikely any wild Pokemon would get the drop on her, but Tanya wouldn't discount some ingenuity making that possible.

The rumble in the skies had drawn quite a bit of attention from the inhabitants of the route. Leaves from afar rustled. Whether it was from the light breeze wafting through every once and a while or if it was a critter skittering about in the dark was hard to tell. Nothing came at them right away. Whatever was out there was watching them, carefully. With hungry eyes it peered through the dark, following the group of trainer and pokémon. It was an interesting bunch. Some completely alien to the native of route 37 and others not so much. No doubt all the empty noises and natural shuffles bumping about in the night were beginning to make some of Tanya's partners a little antsy. The action happening beyond the shadows of the trees was notable but still nothing was happening. They followed her instructions to keep from blindly charging in.
