A Pup-napping!

Setting:
On a typical calm and peaceful day in Cherrygrove, with the city enveloped in the fragrances of blossoming flowers, two small-time robbers are planning their greatest ever heist. With the training facility for the force's most elite canine unit situated in the heart of Cherrygrove, most bad guys know better than to hang around town. However, this dim-witted pair are unperturbed by the threat of tooth and flame, and instead are looking to kidnap one of the crime-fighting pooches to enhance their larceny skills.
Already with a lengthy track record of breaking and entering, the wicked duo are planning to target more uptown and affluent suburbs. The increased use of forensics and with dusting for fingerprints at the scene of a crime becoming more common, they figure that arson would be the perfect way to destroy all evidence and the young pups of K9 Academy would make ideal little fire starters.
On this same day, Lieutenant McFly is preparing to take one of the newest recruits to the K9 unit out for a walk before an afternoon of intensive battle training. However, unbeknownst to him, the two thieves are quite familiar with the officer's schedule and are waiting in ambush in their white van for the officer and the Growlithe to round the corner...
Walkthrough:
While walking down one of Cherrygrove's smaller streets, you will bear witness to an attempted kidnapping! As an officer and his canine companion are rounding the corner, a white van will pull up alongside and a cloud of black smoke will envelop the scene. As the haze dissipates, the officer is left choking and spluttering while the police pup has vanished! The van is now driving towards you at blistering pace. Do you dare interfere?
If you succeed in the battle, Lieutenant McFly will thank you profusely and note that the Growlithe seems to have taken a real liking towards you. He also suggests you should join the International Police Force as they could use a trainer like you.
