As the dark fog and the plot thickens, he could feel a sense of dread weighing on him. Then, when the fog began to stir and form into a Gastly, he was relieve that he wasn't actually facing actual ghost but ghost Pokemon. He knew how to handle a ghost type pokemon, but not if actual ghost exists. Then, this situation got even weirder as he heard the Gastly spoke. He thought Pokemon don't talk. he must be hallucination, or it must know some telepathy.
"... Go, Tackzil, go for a Confusion on the Gastly," Alex tossed a Pokemon and struggled to mutter. It was like something in the air was making his physiology difficult to even speak those words. Maybe he'll feel better after knocking that Gastly out.

The fog and sense of dread seemed to take the life out of everything around it, and the longer Gastly was near Chikorita, the more it wriggled and struggled to breathe. It's life was being drained, and the only reasonable way to sever the connection was to get rid of the Gastly, as Alex planned to do. The Dustox fluttered in front of Alex, taking it's spot in front of Alex as if to attempt to shield him from Gastly's influence. Unfortunately it did nothing, but it was the thought that counted, right? Gastly disappeared into the dark fog before appearing in front of Tackzil to attack. The Dustox, however, was prepared. A pink aura swirled around Tackzil's eyes, and the light beam that was emitted from them streaked over to Gastly. The power wasn't immediate, the psychic energy needed to root itself in Gastly's brain. When the attack was prepared, however, Gastly let out a shrill shriek, much more fitting for this Pokemon than the haunting voice it seemed to emit. The gaseous Pokemon hissed angrily, like a kettle on the stove, and emitted it's own dark purple aura. It connected to Tackzil, and seemed to sap the Dustox's energy very similar to the way it was doing all the living life around it. When it reached it's attacking capacity, the aura detached and Gastly cackled, phasing in and out of the fog. The Confusion seemed to have done it's work though, as Gastly wasn't as big of a presence as it was earlier. Some of the fog had retracted into the being, and Gastly didn't seem to be as... gaseous, as earlier. "You... will join... us...." The fog seemed to hiss, and Gastly eyed Alex and the Dustox angrily, pupils in slits. Gastly probably only had this next round before it would need to focus on regrowing the fog, so it was do-or-die for the ghost Pokemon. It's desperation and anger seemed to come off of it in waves, sending out an angry, dreadful aura. After Tackzil had executed the brilliant psybeam attack, the temporary moment of light in the Dustox's attack, the shriek from the Gastly, and the dissipating fog seemed to make the environment more tolerable for Alex. Now, he had a better clarity of mind! In addition, he felt his heart pounding a bit slower compared to earlier! He was slowly feeling calm again!
Assessing how powerful that psybeam was on the opponent Pokemon, he really wanted to use that move again, but he decided against it, as he have another Pokemon that could use a ghost type move for some super effective damage. If the fog and the environment didn't relaxed a bit, he probably wouldn't think this way. He held out a Pokeball and thanked the Dustox for her help, and then sent out another Pokeball, to use the super effective ghost type move. "Come on out, Spiden, use Night Shade and show the Gastly who's better at shadow game!"
Out from the Pokeball was a small, green spider. The shadow-stalking spider shot a mean, evil look at the Spinarak, and then prepared for her menacing Shadow Sneak on that ghostly excuse of a ball of farting smelly ball.

The powerful attack of Tackzil had knocked the lingering spirit for six, feeling it's hold on the area begin to loosen. Whilst the dreaded air hadn't fully lifted, it had done so enough for Alex to feel some sense of achievement. These wandering spirits were weak to specific attacks just like any other Pokemon and by learning this, it would be easy to dispose of them. It was just the same as any other Pokemon battle. Sensing the male trainer had another trick brewing up his sleeve, the wild spirit hissed vehemently, conjuring up a purple swirl of fog. If it could get rid of that blasted Dustox then perhaps it would wipe that arrogance off of Alex's face. Sending the purple swirl of negative energy forward, the attack did hit but it struck something other than the poisonous moth.
Now standing in it's place was a small Spinarak, the spider angling it's body to flash the patterns across it's back, as a warning to the floating spirit to stay away. But it did little for the spirit of the fallen lumberjack. Grunting, another swirl of menacing fog formed from the body of the Gastly, quickly shooting forward and striking Spiden with a ghostly force. Taking both attacks, one after the other head on, she slowly lifted her head with glaring eyes. Now, it was her turn to show the opponent the strength of creatures of the night. Using the very same attack but in a completely different way, the Spinarak shot forward a single string of thread which went straight through the partially invisible body of the Gastly. Chuckling as it simply went through and didn't damage the spirit in the slightest, it soon stopped upon seeing the true meaning behind the string shot.
Retracting the thread so that she was being lifted from the ground, Spiden was heading straight for the oblivious Gastly. The very tips of her many feet glowing with a dark aura of her own, the Spinarak span her body at the last second, literally slicing the ghostly presence in half and dissipating it with a puff of purple smoke before landing neatly on a tree trunk. A pained howl echoed through the area and whilst a dense fog remained, the feeling of absolute fear and dread had been lifted. In this area, atleast. This was only the beginning as Alex would continue his way through the depths of the forest.

OOC: Evolving Spinarak, not learning Fury Swipes lol Petilil level 23 to 24 from exp share, self update too self updating the sprite in profie
Dang, this post went Pokemon Adventures style to slice that Gastly in half.
IC: As the battle continued, Alex figured it was the right choice to switch out his Pokemon. Though he wasn't prepared for what was coming up next, both the Gastly being sliced in half by the Spinarak, and his Spinarak actually evolving. He sighed a breath of relief and felt a slight sadness as the Gastly died. So, the ghost type Pokemon indeed have a body after all, just like a Mangemite, or a Grimer. He looked at the sliced up ball from the distance, feeling a mix of chills, disgust, and relief. Perhaps there was another way to calm ghost type Pokemon, right?
Then, the Spinarak's body glowed white, as it was evolving! "You're evolving!..." He blurted out loud in surprised, then also added his gratitude. "Thank you for blocking the Shadow Sneak earlier!" The small green spider was no more, as her body grew larger, and redder. Red as the warning label on hot stoves, except her poisons will burn a different kind of hot than a stove.
"Wow, Spiden! You're bigger now! Okay you can't sit on my head anymore. I'll keep you out of the Pokeball for the night, okay?" Alex commented, as the previously-spinarak would sometimes sit on his head, like the beginning of his Ilex Forest journey. With the Gastly gone, and the sick Chikorita on his hands, he continued down the forest to find that "valley", with the newly evolved Ariados crawling next to him.
