After attacking the soft body of Sans, the wild Sentret moved backwards and lifted itself up onto the tip of it's tail to once again, try and intimidate it's opponent. But no matter how high the Sentret would raise itself to try and feel superior in some way, Sans and his buzzing wings were able to reach better heights. The Sentret species were known to be skittish and cautious of those around them, often alert and seeking danger before it could reach them. In this Sentret's case, it wasn't aware that in the background, Ray was preparing some kind of Pokeball to attempt a capture. It was something that not only trainers but also Rangers, Breeders, Gym Leaders and more did to expand their teams. Whilst it may or may not being staying on Ray's team, it would possibility be finding a new home, outside of Route 29.
The Sentret's beady eyes focused on Sans, the Volbeat swiftly received a follow up order of the same move. His wings flickering, the fire fly like Pokemon skimmed across the surface of the grass and with his short, stubby arms, grabbed hold of the Sentret by the ears. Wriggling and squirming to try and free itself, the Sentret soon felt it's body spin in the air. Gritting it's teeth, the Sentret made a quick scratching stab at Sans' face, the bug naturally letting go to comfort his wound. Though it was nothing more than that, a scratch but it still made a horrid, paper cut like feeling tingle across his body. The Sentret, on the other hand, landed with a bit of a twist on the ground, after being dropped from above by the Volbeat. Wincing it's eyes, the Sentret pondered on if it could survive another hit or if it was time to try and flee to safety.

Before the Sentret could make his decision, Ray pulled out a regular Pokeball and gave the Sentret a smirk that said "you're mine, sucker". He threw the Pokeball straight towards Sentret like a bowling ball and waited for what he hoped was the inevitable.
"Hold your position, Sans," he said to his currently out Pokemon, "it ain't over till the Pokeball clicks."
Both Sans and Ray held their breath and the latter counted down the seconds in his head.

Lost in deep, frantic thoughts, the Sentret was about to decide to roll back up into a ball and let the wind take it on any destination it wanted, as long as it was far away from any battles or further risks. The fluffy Pokemon had been injured too much and another attack would only finish it off. Gulping to itself, the cutesy Pokemon lowered itself down from the tip of it's tail and was practically in mid motion of forming itself into a ball like shape when Ray intervened. Not letting the Sentret escape, he had planned ahead and with a lone Pokeball in his grasp, was about to tempt success. Unaware of it's impending fate, the Sentret was just lowering it's head as the ball was thrown from Ray's hand and flew through the air.
Unable to dodge, the Sentret just barely managed to curl itself up into a ball before Ray's own Pokeball tapped against it's body. Flinching at the touch, the Sentret had very little time to react as before it truly knew it, the wild creature was dragged inside. Tossing and shaking, the Sentret tried to burst free but it was unsuccessful. Tinging in success, Ray and Sans were able to breath again as they had managed to capture the Sentret!
WIGGLE. WIGGLE. WIGGLE. . . . TING!
Congratulations! Ray has successfully captured the Sentret!Sans gained 2 levels and grew to Level 7! Ray leaped in triumph at the sound of the Pokeball's final click.
"Great job, Sans," he said, high-fiveing his Volbeat comrade, "We'll go trade out this little guy for your newest partner in crime. In the meantime, let's get to Cherrygrove and get you all some well deserved healing."
Ray and his Pokemon were peppier than ever as they continued down Route 29, ready to take on whatever new challenges awaited in Cherrygrove City. The game had officially begun and Ray was Player One.

Ray's celebration of his new catch was cut short, when something grey and furry tumbled past just in front of him on his path. The creature yipped and snarled, running in a circle around itself, before it noticed Ray and faced him. Immediately, its hair stood on end all the way from its neck to its tail. Its red and yellow eyes glared daggers at Ray, and a rumbling sound permeated the area as it growled deeply. It looked a frightening sight, which was Poochyena's intention. In thruth Poochyena was frightened and lost. It had been playing 'fetch the tail' and lost sight of its pack in the process. It knew they were only passing through the human crowded area for new land, and if it didn't find them soon, they would be gone forever, and Poochyena would be doomed to wander alone. That was of course, until a human crossed Poochyena's path, and suddenly Poochyena wasn't only afraid of being lost from its pack, but faced the danger of being dragged away from the wildlife for good. Poochyena didn't like the idea at all, and it told the human so in the most menacing way it knew. Wild encounter
A wild Poochyena (level 8) is frightened and ready to defend itself! Choose a Pokemon
(Ooc: If you wish to do the NPC trade, you'll need to make a post in the specific trade thread. If you wish to continue to Cherrygrove, you'll need to put an (F), (Done) or something similar in the titel of your current thread, so the mod knows to close it, and then you can start a new thread within the next city at your leasure. As you haven't I've regarded this as unfinished and made you a new encounter. You can always run away, and close the thread, if you don't want to be in route 29 anymore. You should be aware however, that Poochyena is a swarming pokemon and don't frequent the area often )

At this point, Ray was tired of being on this particular route. While this was a rare Pokemon for the area, he DID have other things to do after all. Ray broke a small branch from the cottonwood tree he and Skull Kid took cover under earlier and started to wave it in front of the Poochyena, whistling to add the playful effect of the ruse.
"See the stick," he said, "see the sick, boy."
Ray then threw the stick towards the wooded area to the side of the road.
"Get that stick!!!" he said, excitedly, "Fetch, boy."
As the Poochyena went after the stick, Ray and company sprinted towards Cherrygrove. Sure, it didn't feel great to trick a cute little puppy like that, but he was in a hurry and would have to deal with his conscience later.
((Ray runs away from the fight))
