@tagged | Ten still wasn't happy, but she supposed she didn't have much of a choice. Her boss's words were law, so she had to go. Personally, she'd rather be sitting at her desk in the lab, but the boss had ordered her to 'go and get some sunshine, see the world, do your studies hand on.' So she had. Boarding a boat, they'd sailed from Kalos to Johto. She'd received her starter Pokemon from the Professor, and had already written a page on its behavior, complete with photographs.
A kindly older couple had housed her for the night, even providing her supper and breakfast, as she'd arrived rather late in the day and, by the time she'd collected the Pokemon her boss had arranged for her, the sun was set.
Now she was ready to start traveling, backpack high on her shoulders and Poke Ball clipped to her belt.
Sebastene, giving NewBark Town one last, longing look, began to head down Route 29.

It was a lovely spring day to begin a journey. Even though the sun's rays did little to heat the area over the lingering winter chill, the snow was melting away and leaving the path open to new flora. The grass was just beginning to stand back up from its snow trampled state, sopping wet at its roots giving the perfect arrangement of nutrients and drink for the area to start budding up. Many a pokémon were scurrying about in the taller protected areas or flying passed above the trees lining route 29. This of course left quite a bit of activity turning its attention to the new trainer stepping into their territory. Sharp eyes glared from above, feathers puffing up as they considered the red head. Bushes rustled on ahead as Sebastene made her way along, likely a rat or bug making off with some scrumptious early berries procured from the vegetation. But all of these inhabitants were more than aware of what Sebastene was, and with the early morning bustle to wake and gather food all of the regular tenants of route 29 had interest in other things besides getting beat up by a trainer. However, this day route 29 was visited by not just one new comer: it had a swarm of alien doves bumbling about. Small groups could be seen in the distance flying in formation, but there was a much closer disturbance that could be of more interest to the analyst. In a nearby tree a frightful chirp cut through the air, an accompanying screech hissed in time with a mad flutter of feather. Up above a bunny eared raccoon was chasing one of the grey feathered birds from its knothole. Striped tail wrapped around the branch, the Sentret aggressively shook the branch in a rhythmic motion to encourage the avian to get away from its stock pile. The Pidove was having trouble keeping its grip, and so panicked by the shrieking it lost its grip and was launched a ways into the main path by Sebastene. The bird flailed, feathers falling out behind it as it stressed, and was unable to right itself before hitting the ground. Teary eyed the little bird made to recover, noticing very quickly that it was in the trainer's shadow. It was quite obvious this was a very young bird, likely recently hatched. Pidove got to its feet, all its feathers every which way which caused its lovely chest heart design to be somewhat obscured. It chirped fearfully, stumbling back and looking to be building up for an attack. A Pidove (LV 2) is going to strike out! What will Sebastene do?

Sent out Vanderwood the Bulbasaur Vanderwood used Tackle
@tagged | Although she could see signs of Pokemon around the Route, none allowed themselves to be seen, or photographed. Sebastene already was getting irritated, having nothing to record or write down. She was beginning to contemplate bringing out her Starter, in hopes of getting something. Occasionally a bird Pokemon would flutter by overhead, but not long enough for her to identify it, or scan it with her state-of-the-art Pokedex.
Although she'd only been walking a short time, she couldn't help but to be discouraged. She'd always been rather impatient, attempting to get results as fast as she possibly could. In a lab environment, she could work on another project while waiting for another project to get results, right now she had to focus all her attention on looking for Pokemon.
Ten jumped at a sudden loud chirp and screech, startled at a sudden rush of motion. She looked for the source of the commotion, and spotted a brown-furred rodent (a Sentret, if she remembered correctly) chasing a gray-feathered bird. The Sentret shook the branch, and Ten flew for her camera, recording its defensive actions. She also recorded the flight of the Pidove, flailing to the ground in a flurry of feathers.
She locked eyes with the startled bird and, recognizing the 'cornered Pokemon' look in its eyes, quickly loosed Vanderwood, the Bulbasaur surveying the little bird in a bored fashion. “Vanderwood! Lets end this quickly with a Tackle.”
As the Bulbasaur charged at the little bird, Sebastene pulled out her Pokedex, aiming it at the bird. “Pidove, the Tiny Pigeon Pokemon. Stands at .3 meters on average. The average weight is 2.1kg. Typing: Normal, Flying. This very forgetful Pokemon will wait for a new order from its Trainer even though it already has one.”

Vanderwood wasted no time, charging in toward the terrified pidove as fast as his little legs could take him. With the bulbous pokémon bobbing toward it, the baby bird was truly at a loss of what it was doing. Too much excitement! The wild pokémon was overwhelmed, standing in fear and making an easy target of itself as the bulbasaur bashed into its body. A pitiful squawk squeaked out of the avian as it tumbled back and rolled along the ground. Acting purely out of instinct Pidove hopped to its feet and managed to get into the air, wings beating frantically as it worked up its attack. Folding the air movements generated by its hovering position the tiny bird worked up a little whirl of a wind and sent it into Vanderwood. The gust swirled and whipped into the grass type but it wasn't more than bulbasaur could take. Vanderwood planted himself and weathered it, leaving the pidove even more confused and worried. Vanderwood uses Tackle
@tagged | Vanderwood surveyed his opponent, looking at the Pidove, unimpressed. This was his opponent? A scruffy little wet behind the ears bird? This would be too easy. As he barreled at it, he could hear his trainers' Pokedex giving them a bit of information on the Pokemon. He rolled his vermilion eyes, wondering why humans needed small robots to tell them such things. Now, if it told them how to defeat it, that would be useful.
The grass-type slammed bodily into his opponent, the frozen little bird Pokemon going tumbling across the ground. He felt a bit of pity for it, but really, if it was young enough to freeze up in battle, it shouldn't have been out and about.
The Pidove righted itself, whipping its wings to throw up a small gale. However, Vanderwood, being a rather densely built Pokemon, was fairly heavy and simply planted his feet, leaning into the winds.
Sebastene did the same, digging in her heels and tightening her grip on the camera that was recording the battle. For the sake of the recording, she quickly summarized the battle, before throwing out another order at her partner. “Vanderwood, use Tackle!”

Once again Vanderwood proved to be too fast for the Pidove as he charged towards the young bird with his tackle attack. He thought for sure this next hit would be able to knock the bird out and as he collided with Pidove it looked like he did at first. He stood in absolute shock however as Pidove climbed back to it's feet in a stunning display of resilience and bravery against impossible odds. Even Pidove knew it could not win this battle by now but it was going to give Vanderwood a hell of a time before it went down as it began to flap it's wings to build up a mighty gust. Vanderwood was so stunned he made no attempt to avoid the attack as debris picked up from the gust slammed into him. As the wind died down Pidove stood quite proud of it's brave last stand given how confused it had been for most of the battle. In it's heart it knew this was a pointless display as there was no conceivable way to win as even getting bumped would be enough to knock it out now. For a display of pride however it certainly was a commendable action as it was fighting to the bitter end in such a hopeless situation. Vanderwood and Sebastene could not have asked for a more worthy foe if they had begged. Battle

threw a PokeBall!
| Expecting the small Pidove to give out after Vanderwood's last attack, Sebastene unclipped an unoccupied Poke Ball from her belt, tapping the button to make it grow to full size. However, both she and Vanderwood were stunned as the little bird rose back onto its talons, and flapped its wings to throw up a small gale.
The Bulbasaur set his feet into the ground, digging his claws into the soft dirt to ground himself against the whipping winds. He leaned into them, attempting to keep from being pushed as the wind lashed at his leather-like skin.
The gale died down, and Vanderwood straightened up, vermillion eyes glaring at the Pidove in an irritated way. He seemed to say 'really?', clearly annoyed that his opponent still remained standing.
In anticipation of another attack, he set his claws into the ground to provide traction so he could launch himself at the Pidove. However, he was startled when Sebastene called him back, and the grass-type snorted as he ambled back to her heels.
The young scientist drew back her arm, and lobbed the Poke Ball at the Pidove, hoping to catch the lost Pokemon.

As hard and bravely as Pidove had fought the outcome of this battle was mostly decided with the only real difference being whether it would be captured or just knocked out. As Sebastene called back Vanderwood and grabbed a Pokeball however it was abundantly clear that she was going to try and capture the bird and Pidove was not in very good shape to try and fight back. It had been a defiant little bird but given the shape it was in there was little hope that it would be able to escape from the Pokeball. Pidove tried to leap out of the way of the oncoming ball however it was too weak to make any quick movement and the ball struck it right in the beak, a moment later it disappeared in a bright red flash as it entered the ball. Not a moment later the ball began to rock back and forward as Pidove tried everything it could to escape as unlikely as it was. The bird tried to slam into the sides of the inside of the ball trying to pop it open after the first shake but to no avail, after the second shake the bird tried again but nothing happened. After a third shake Pidove tried one final time but it was simply too weak to break out. The Pokeball clicked shut as Pidove was captured with no hope of escape now. It had done everything it could to try and win the battle but it just did not have enough energy or strength to win the battle. The young bird could only hope it's new master would be kind to it. On the other hand Vanderwood could feel his strength increase a bit after winning the battle and learned a new move in the process so at least 1 of her Pokemon was happy with the outcome.
For winning the battle Vanderwood gains 2 levels. He is now level 7. He learned Leech Seed. Pidove has been captured. Please complete the following code.

@tagged | Judging by this battle, Vanderwood was proving himself to be a good partner. However, this battle didn't seem to be much of a challenge, as their opponent was bumbling and seemed quite young, unused to battling.
The vermillion eyed reptile rolled his eyes as his master lobbed a Pokeball at the Pidove, He couldn't quite figure out why his trainer was bothering, as the little bird wouldn't add much to her team. Even her Pokedex had said they were forgetful; why would she add a burden to her team?
Ten hurried to pull out her camera, managing to catch a picture of the red light consuming the Pidove. She pulled out her Pokedex when the Pokeball dinged, typing in the name she had decided for him and checking over his stats, making sure to check the box that would allow him to remain on her person and not be transferred to a Center.
She called out the little bird, and crouched, resting him on her knees as she looked him over. She entered his height and wingspan into her tablet, and guided his wing into a position such that she could look over his feathers. After looking over the flight feathers, she typed in his age as 'adolescent, possibly slightly delayed adult'. Ten made sure he knew his name, before summoning him back into the Pokeball to get some rest.
Clipping the Pokeball to her backpack, she called Vanderwood to his side. After assessing him, she recalled him into his Pokeball as well to rest, before setting out down the Route once more.

Sebastene continued along the route alone, all her pokémon safely tucked away in their pokéballs resting from the first encounter of her new journey. Though, it seemed she wasn't able to leave work fully behind her. Something she had in common with some of the inhabitants of route 29. It all looked calm and relaxing on the surface but busy working away in the bushes beyond the trees lining the main path were all sorts of creatures. Whether it be scrounging for food, defending territory, or, in rattata's case, building a nest. With Spring here it was imperative the little rat get its den all fixed up and prepared for the oncoming flood of melting snow and summer rains. Back and forth it scampered through the grasses pulling along shreds of bark and long sticks to nibble down and help disguise its home. But, it had already scavenged all the nearby fall and needed to start traveling a bit further away in order to get good pieces for construction. Off it went, scurrying across the path and delving into other patches of grass. By the time Ten had come into view Rattata had found a great haul. A long old branch easily five times longer than the rat dragging it along. It was slow going. Big buckteeth clamped around the girth of the branch rattata was having to do an odd sideways shuffle, head up as high as it could manage as it pulled the long piece of wood. It was partway across the path when it noticed the bright red hair of the trainer approaching. Instantly it dropped the branch and hopped forward to defend its find. A Rattata (LV 5) won't let Sebastene go any further! Select a pokémon for battle

Sent out Tyto the Rowlet Tyto used Leafage! @tagged
| Sebastene paid little attention to the route as she walked, holding her fancy tablet in her hand. She had used it to scan the Poke Ball the little bird rested in with her Pokedex, and was entering that information to her tablet. From his height and weight, his disposition, and the moves he knew, the tablet had everything about him. She signed off on a small description of his actions during their battle, then sent it in to her boss. Perhaps it would help them understand the migratory patterns of Pidove, and maybe even other bird Pokemon. After all, Pidove weren't native to this region, yet it was the first one she met.
She tucked the tablet safely away into her backpack, pulling out instead a bottled soda. The carbonation fizzled as she twisted off the cap, and began to gulp it down. She'd not had anything to drink since this morning, and found herself rather thirsty.
She was interrupted by a low chirp from her phone, and unlocked it to find a message from her boss.
“Added another Pokemon to your team. Confirm it.”
She tucked away her phone and opened her tablet, pulling up the app that allowed her to manage her team. She quickly clicked ACCEPT to the transfer, and opened the information page on the Pokemon she'd been gifted. A Rowlet. Ability Overgrow. Grass/Flying type, one foot in height, and with a calm disposition.
She was so absorbed in looking over her new Pokemon that she nearly trod on the Rattata, looking down to see a small rat and a big branch, presumably for his nest. “Ah, my apologies.”
Sebastene stepped back, pulling out the newest Pokemon's Pokeball and releasing it in front of the Rat. The Rowlet hooted its name, rotating its head this way and that to try and get used to his new surroundings. As a recently feathered hatchling, he'd hardly seen anything except the lab he was bred in. However, he knew he had to answer his trainer's orders, so he dug in his talons and stared down the Rattata.
“Tyto, use Leafage!”
The bird-Pokemon hooted and fluttered into the air, flapping his wings to throw up a flurry of leaves. multiply life by the power of two |

Rattata's fur bristled, tail curling in as it readied. The trainer called for an attack and Tyto hooted a reply. But Rattata knew what that meant too. In a flash the speedy little rat darted forward, a blur of purple swept across the blooming path with a plume of dust kicking up behind it. The juvenile owl only had time to blink before the experienced wild pokémon bashed into its feathered body. Both of them went tumbling along the grass as the rowlet's rounded plush body gave little resistance for the rat to rebound off safely. As his opponent recovered from the roll Tyto found his chance. Hopping up, the young bird spanned its wings and started up a small storm. Leaves and blades of ripped grass lifted into the air, of which the owl expertly organized into a draft and sent gliding into Rattata. The thin leafage swept across the small furry body and left several small cuts all around. Rattata hissed in displeasure, each muscle movement agitating the new wounds like a bad paper cut. Tyto used Tackle
@tagged
| Ten grimaced as the force of the Rattata's attacked knocked them both head over heels (or... claws and talons?), mentally noting that the plushness of Tyto seemed to have a rebounding effect that sent them both tumbling.
When Tyto went to use his attack, she quickly flicked on the camera, wanting to record the attack to go over later. Even in normal time it was interesting to watch, the whipping winds tearing up leaves and grass before whipping them together as though in a blender, before flying across the battlefield like a miniature tornado.
The move didn't seem to deal much damage to the Rattata, leaving little more than small, irritating cuts across its pelt.
Ten quickly went through the attacks it knew in her head, before ordering Tyto “Tyto, Tackle him!”

Though Rattata had held its own against Tyto it still was not in the clear as neither Pokemon had a huge advantage when it came to endurance or power but the purple rat Pokemon was not going to let its stash be taken from it no matter how hard things would get in this battle. As close as the battle currently was Rattata was able to outpace Tyto at every turn and it hoped the speed advantage along would be enough to let it slip by with a victory so it could escape with its goods. Trying to stick to an offensive mindset Rattata took off in a blinding blur as it rushed towards Tyto with a Quick Attack slamming into the owl causing decent damage before coming to a standstill trying to observe the results of its attack. It was a mistake that would prove to be foolish as Tyto could now catch up with it. He quickly ruffled his feathers before charging the rat using his whole body to perform a Tackle attack of his own. Though it was a little less powerful than the Rattata's quick attack it brought the two Pokemon to a neck and neck race for remaining health as the two Pokemon looked at one another with great eagerness to go another round. They were both pumped up after exchanging blows and neither one wanted to give an inch to the other in fear of it being seen as a weakness. On top of that the battle had become so close a single misjudgment could be all it would take to lose the battle and after working so hard neither wanted to lose due to a single mistake. For the time being Rattata held a very minor advantage but that could change in an instant with a single lucky blow. With the two Pokemon ready to go another round it would not be long before one of them made their move and it was up to Sebastene to make another tough choice as the two Pokemon began to lose their patience. Tyto uses Leafage! @tagged
| Ten frowned as she watched the dueling duo, camera held tightly in one hand. The two seemed mostly evenly matched, which was rather odd as the Rattata, a Rodent, was a natural prey-Pokemon for her Tyto, a predator-Pokemon. The duo at present were staring each-other down, clearly wanting to get going. The Rattata was chattering its teeth, and Tyto was ruffling his feathers in anticipation. Clearly if she didn't give him an order soon, he'd launch himself into the battle regardless.
For a moment she contemplated sending out Vanderwood or another Pokemon she'd been given to finish this, but Sebastene needed to get the data for this. She wanted to compare how Tyto would fight against another bird Pokemon vs how he fought this Rattata, a prey-type to him.
“Tyto!” she finally called, and the bird-Pokemon hooted, hopping in place. “Try Leafage again!”
