It seemed that the rain was not going to be stopping for anybody anytime soon. At least that's what Luxos thought as he left the lab, his eyes scanning the darkened sky. His clothes were quickly becoming damp from the water that was falling, not having thought to bring an umbrella. But water was not going to stop him from taking the first steps from his brand new journey in life. After all, it wasn't killing him and although he loved his home, he was more than happy to get away from the big city he lived in. It was definitely different in a good way. Yet, he wasn't quite used to be alone like this. He paused for a moment and grabbed the Pokeball that contained the only friend he had in the world at the moment.
"I guess it's an appropriate time that we should actually meet."
With a small smile, Lux released the Pokemon of his choosing from the capsule. From the bright red light formed the green seeded amphibian. As the water continued to fall down, she stared up at the new trainer who was to be her very own through ruby colored eyes.
"I do hope you don't mind the rain, but I thought it would be best to meet now, rather than through a heated battle."
As she was a grass type, the small Pokemon definitely had no issue with the droplets as they splashed down. He knelt down to be on eye level with the Bulbasaur while pushing back locks of his wet hair, taking out his small camera while he did so. With a warm chuckle, he snapped a quick photograph of the grass type before he introduced himself.
"My name is Luxos, and I guess we're to be partners from now on. I do hope you are fine with that? The professor here told me you guys arent given any names of you own, so how would you like the name of Gallifrey? My papa mentioned the name before and I thought something like that might suit you?"
The Bulbasaur thought about the name for a second before happily agreeing. It was definitely something different. She reached out a vine to the young man and Lux took that as a yes.
"Well then Gallifrey, how about we get this journey started? We have so much to so and see and I don't think a little water is going to stop us from it!"
"Bul, Bulba!," Gallifrey quite agreed with Luxos as the two took off through New Bark Town on the adventure that was to be their very own.

New trainers were a dime a dozen, these days. Some progressed through the routes and made it relatively far in their first few weeks, while others decided it wasn't the life for them. Pokemon were very flexible though, and react well to home life as long as they weren't a lizard with fire on their tail. That tended to make life a little harder, as Kein had thought with the forested area. The Bulbasaur, after studying the trainer, figured that this wouldn't be one of the trainers to give up. They'd go exploring, fight battles, and attempt to grow to be closer as a pair considering how thoughtful it's trainer already seemed. While the name seemed to be a bit off, Gallifrey seemed happy with it and thus began their journey into the wide world of Pokemon. However, off in the distance, things weren't as peachy keen. Jealous, angry eyes peered down from a tree branch, honing in on the newest trainer on the route. Such a cocky boy, bringing the Bulbasaur here in the rain to just taunt wild Pokemon. Even with the rain Pokemon didn't want to venture from their dens, but with these trainers with their new Pokemon coming out as well, it was just more than Spearow could bear. It was tired of being overlooked, burned, whipped or battered into shape before being left on the route. To protect it's friends from the same fate, Spearow decided upon itself to enact swift, vigilante justice. Someone had to teach the boy that battles weren't far. All the trainers jumped into battles. It was just what they did! They didn't have cute moments with their Pokemon. They fought! Angrily, the Spearow cawed and spread it's wings. Hopping off the branch with a quick motion allowed the bird to take flight. In a smooth glide, the bird landed a few paces away from the pair, ruffling it's feathers to make itself look bigger. Spearow wasn't going to let them get away without a battle. Wings outstretched, Spearow cawed in an intimidating fashion. Well, as intimidating as a Spearow can get. It isn't much. Sorry Spearow. Wild Spearow (Level 4) is ready for wibbly wobbly timey wimey shenanigans battle! Will you FIGHT or FLEE?

((Ehehe, very nice!)) Luxos once again pushed back the wet raven hair from his eyes and his thick brows raised as his attention focused on the new arrival before them. A flying type, obviously, and a determined looking one at that. He looked down to Gallifrey, who was wearily eyeing the avian, before looking back to the Spearow. His camera came out once again, taking a quick snapshot of the small bird as the screech escaped it's beak.
"Well hello there!," Luxos replied, a smile playing on his lips, "I've never actually seen a Spearow before, unless you count the pictures I've seen inside of books!" He laughed slightly. "I honestly don't think I've seen too many flying types while I was a child..."
"You know, my Papa said in order for Pokemon to grow stronger, they must battle and gain experience. You look like quite the strong one as well. Like you have a determination to prove yourself. How about a battle? You'll be our very first?"
Luxos wasn't altogether sure how he felt about fighting, but the battles he had with his parent's Pokemon had been interesting enough. Now it was time for his own. Getting down on eye level with his Bulbasaur, he looked to Gallifrey.
"How about it Gallifrey? I understand the type difference between the two of you, but I'm sure you'll do fantastic." The grass type seemed quite hesitant, her large ruby eyes looking into Luxos's blue ones, but the young trainer couldnt do the fighting himself. It was up to her and all she could do was her best. She nodded her head before she took a step towards the bird.
"Now, if I remember correctly, your only physical move at the moment is tackle. How about you give that a try?" With a nod, Gallifrey took charge through the rain, hoping not to mess up her very first battle.

Gallifrey soon charged at the Spearow in the cold wet rain. The Spearow however let out a cry as the trainer accepted it's challenge of sorts. "Spearow!" It stood strong but was hit back by Gallifrey in it's hesitation. The Spearow used its wings to steady itself before it flew towards Gallifrey looking to do one thing. Gallifrey didn't expect such speed from the Spearow and could do nothing as it started to peck and peck. Gallifrey cried out in pain as they wiggled out trying to get the Spearow to stop falling over from the rain in the process. "BULBASAUR!" The Spearow soon left Gallifrey alone and created some space between them. The spearow puffed up it's chest again as it started at Gallifrey and the trainer before it. There was no way the Spearow was giving up, and no way was it weak either. That peck was an example as Gallifrey stood back up breathing slightly heavy. That peck had hurt, and if the Spearow did another attack like that Gallifrey had a feeling the battle would be over. All both pokemon could do now was wait in the pelting rain, for the next round to start. Gallifrey hoped its trainer knew what they were doing, they didn't want to go down, not this easy. Battle

"Wow," was all he could seem to muster, his eyes glued to the battle scene in front of him. The young man's mind began to race as the two Pokemon fought. What a tough battle already and they had only just begun. Now what exactly to do now, Lux thought. If he wasn't quick on his feet, the battle would be over before it had even really started. And with that type advantage, he had to think as cleverly as he could.
"That was amazing Gallifrey, you're proving to be a fantastic companion. Especially with our strong opponent here. I do feel a bit silly using this right now," he said while reaching into his bag, "but would feel even sillier if we got knocked out so early." Imagine the embarrassment of losing out on their very first battle. He was just sure his sister tease him mercilessly if he did. With that, he sprayed Gallifrey with one of the potions he had been given. "This should hopefully make you feel a bit better."
Luxos had his mind set on getting a Bulbasaur from the very beginning and from his studies he was sure he remembered what attacks it learned early on.
"Hey Gallifrey, now how about we try a growl attack?" It wasn't a damaging move, but one to drop the attack of an opponent. And Luxos was hoping it would help drop that Spearow's Peck some. She nodded in response and her mouth opened, releasing her next move.

Gallifrey had taken quite the beating within the ring, no thanks to the typing advantage that the Spearow had. It had been fed up with losing so many battles to energetic Squirtle and fiery Charmanders, so picking on Bulbasaur was the only fun it could find in it's life. At least for right now. It's battle now - or be battled lifestyle was rough and tumble, as the young Bulbasaur was finding out the hard way. Spearow was all offense and take-no-prisoners, so given the fact Gallifrey had survived a super effective attack from this aggressive bird at all was commendable. While it may have felt silly to the trainer to use an item so early, it was a wise move. Gallifrey practically purred under the healing effects of the potion and her health was completely restored. Spearow fluttered it's wings in anger. How DARE the trainer heal this Pokemon? Spearow was about to win! Angrily it leered over at the duo, sending a shudder down Gallifrey's spine. The bird was truly fuming, but at least Luxos had given Gallifrey an order to fight back. With Gallifrey's defenses down, they had to unsettle the bird somehow so it couldn't take advantage of the budding Pokemon. Gallifrey let out a savage growl (as savage as a young Bulbasaur could be, mind you) which seemed to take the Spearow aback for a moment. It was probably more impressed than anything, and glad that Bulbasaur was standing up for itself! However, it managed to sneak in another leering glare at both trainer and Pokemon, leaving them right back in the same place they'd started before the round. Spearow wanted to keep the edge up, it seemed. It was proving to be a very capable battler, especially for the first route. While feeling much better from the potion she had been given, the look from the avian gave her heart an unpleasant jump. The Spearow's last glare also managed to send shivers right down the young trainer's spine. Both of them together could agree the flying type was not so pleased and wouldn't be giving up until this battle came to some sort of end. Luxos gave a smile, despite the fluttering that was happening in his belly.
"Your determination is very impressive. But I like to think we have some of our own, ey, Gallifrey?"
He looked down to Gallifrey, whose eyes were still locked onto her opponent. She couldn't afford to give the Spearow any chance to completely have the upper hand. Not now, it would mean the end of her and she knew it. The next attack was going to hurt, but she hoped she was strong enough to take it and that Luxos had a plan to finish this as quickly as possible.
"Alright Gallifrey, can you give one more tackle?"
With tackle being the only damaging move she could use now and the only hope of moving this fight along, she ultimately had no other choice. With everything she could possibly muster, she charged towards the Spearow through the rain while hoping this fight wouldn't last too much longer.

Spearow shook the droplets from its feathers, puffing out momentarily before sleeking back into the sharp avian it was. Its fierce eyes stared relentlessly at the fresh bulbasaur. Gallifrey may have been young, and new to battling, but the pet pokémon was a force to be reckoned with. The wild bird was more than aware of the tricky trainers and their strong partners, thus its previous preparations, but to Spearow's dismay the trainer had also took the last few moments to prepare. The tiny bird cawed boldly, spanning its wings in an attempt to intimidate Gallifrey. Its hooked beak, shiny with all the moisture, caught a timely glint of light as if queuing just what the bird was planning to do next. Gallifrey would not be deterred. Rejuvenated with the potion she felt like she could take anything the wild pokémon could send her way. And so she would. Confirming Luxos' request with an affirmative call of her own, the seed pokémon began charging forward. Spearow adjusted its position, well able to keep up with the grass type's speed, but with some quick thinking the starter gained the upper hand. When she was close she made a lunging feint, causing Spearow to put all of its offensive plans toward the wrong direction as she instead hopped to the other side. With another motion she was diving into Spearow's unprotected side catching the avian completely off guard. An angry squawk erupted from the pointed bird as it flailed all around to get itself righted. Gallifrey was knocked a bit off balance during her retreat due to a flurry of wing flapping up in her face, and before she could get back on all fours a sharp beak was headed her way. With quick thinking she forfeited planting all her feet on the ground and instead allowed her off kilter stance to roll her away. The beak still dug into her side but it was far less damaging than it could have been. Wild Battle Weather: Rain Spearow | LV 4 | Keen Eye HP: 22% (4/18) Status: -1 ATK Used Peck! VS

Gallifrey winced as the sharp beak made its contact with her side, yet it felt like the damage that had been delivered was not quite as bad as it previously had been. It seemed that her trainer's idea had worked somewhat well. Although her time with him so far was very limited, she had a good feeling about Luxos.
Luxos kept his eye focused on the avian, trying to determine what should be the next step of action. This Spearow, while still standing strong, was starting to look a wee bit battle worn. He knew that in order to capture a Pokemon, the goal as to get the opponents HP as low as you possibly could without fainting it. He had had those mock battles before, but never had the chance to capture a Pokemon. It was starting to look like it might be the proper time to act.
"Alright Gallifrey," He called out to his friend, "we're gonna try and end this here!"
The Bulbasaur turned her head, looking back at her trainer through the shower of rain. Over already, but the bird was still standing? She took a few steps back towards him though and waited for his next move.
"Hey Spearow, you really have proven yourself to be a strong first opponent. I'd be pleased if you'd join us on our journey. As a new trainer, I don't know quite what to expect along the way, but I can promise to do my very best if you guys are willing to help me."
After all, it really was the Pokemon who really did the hard work in the end. Fumbling with one of the Pokeball's that hung on the belt that held his thick kilt up, he gave the button on it one press causing the small orb to enlarge. He held his breath as he gave the ball a toss in the Spearow's direction. Hopefully, his first attempt at a capture would be a successful one.

The Spearow cocked its head to one side as Luxos tried to talk to it. This human was a strange one. Spearow had attacked it out of nowhere, then the human had fought back. So far, that was understandable. The human then brought out a Pokéball. Again, nothing unusual. So why, then, was this human trying to talk to it? Was the whole battle not beyond such simple methods now? Perplexed, the Flying type took to preening itself and completely ignored Luxos's speech. Besides, that human would obviously be throwing a ball at it any second now. This part of Spearow's prediction came true almost instantly, with the red and white orb cracking against the bird's skull and sucking it up. After three very sharp jolts of movement, the ball settled down in the dirt below and beeped softly.

----- Luxos felt the little bit of tension release from his body. He let out a short sigh of relief, the ball slowing to a final stop. It was a sign to let him know the capture was officially complete. He stepped forward, along with Gallifrey, kneeling down to pick up the now occupied Pokeball. Placing a gentle hand upon her head, he used the other to grasp the red and white sphere.
"Looks like a new companion to join our party, huh? And it's all thanks to you Gallifrey!"
The Bulbasaur looked quite pleased with herself, pressing in to his hand as Luxos lovingly rubbed the side of her face. After all, she had fought against a Flying type and didn't faint. Standing back up, he brushed the muddy debris from his knees and kilt. "Welcome to the team...Skaro," he said while placing the Pokeball on his belt, settling on what he thought would be the perfect nickname for the avian.
The shower that seemed to be pouring down just seconds ago was now fading, slowly coming to an end. The sun was soon poking through the clouds and heating the air around them up. Although it was hotter now, with a successful capture and no more rain to worry about, it seemed the day was starting to get even better.
"C'mon Gallifrey, let's see what else this route has to offer!"
Gallifrey nodded happily as the now trio set forward once again.

With Luxos's first capture in Johto completed, he and his trusty Bulbasaur could continue to explore the joys of Route 29. Now that the match had ended, the trainer's attention might have returned to the weather, which was changing quite significantly. Gone was the rain from earlier and in its place was a much more pleasant set of conditions. The clouds overhead broke open to reveal a bright sun shining down on the grassy terrain around Luxos and his partner. It was quite miraculous, considering how it had only just been raining moments ago. Perhaps Johto is close to the United Kingdom given these unpredictable patterns? Who knows? Regardless, those were the facts. It was now nice and hot, and that's what mattered most. The wildlife around the area had perked up quite considerably, with Bug types and Flying types alike now happily traipsing around and leaving no stone unturned as they sought out some much-needed food. Luxos wouldn't have to wander too far to find her next encounter, fortunately. A young Wurmple trailed across the sodden land, its head firmly stuck to the earth beneath its feet as it looked for some delicious greenery to feast on. It hadn't really enjoyed the rain, unsurprisingly, and was quite starving after all the cowering from the storm. There was much eating to be done. As it drifted across Luxos's path, the larval Pokémon turned in his direction and froze momentarily. It weighed up its options on whether to attack or not before deciding that it probably had no choice in the matter anyway. It made its move before its opponent could, charging on bravely.
A wild Wurmple has app- Oh?
But before Luxos and the Bug could do battle, something came between them. A netted something. In fact, it was a net. Wurmple shrieked in surprise as it was imprisoned by fabric, which only provoked a gleeful chuckle from its captor. A male voice called out in delight as it noticed that the Wurmple was most certainly unable to move now. "Yes! Gotcha now, Wurmple!" the voice declared rather loudly. If Luxos cared to turn toward the owner of said voice, he'd see a young boy in typical bug-catching gear. With a short-sleeved shirt and shorts, he was most certainly well equipped for this beautiful weather. Though, one had to wonder how he'd have managed in the storm earlier if this was his get-up of choice for the day. The kid stared victoriously at his quarry, pulling the net - and, by extension, Wurmple - toward him. "You're not getting away this time, buddy. We're gonna have ourselves a match and you're gonna like it!" he said, grinning like a maniac. It wasn't until Wurmple was nearly at his feet that the Bug Catcher noticed Luxos standing there. "Oh, um, sorry! Did you want to fight this little guy too?" he asked, looking a little embarrassed at the situation that had apparently unfolded. "I've kinda been hunting this guy for a while now, so I don't want to give it up just yet. Hope that's alright!" The kid smiled again, trying to look as friendly as possible as if to attempt to avoid a fight. Then his face changed, as though a brilliant idea happened upon him. "Oh, I know! If you're disappointed, how about you and I have a match instead? I'll catch this Wurmple after that. Two battles for the price of one, yeah! What do you say, mister?" The boy pulled out a Pokéball before Luxos could answer, as if he was just expecting a 'yes' from the trainer.
Bug Catcher Don has intervened and would like to battle! And no, there will be no more surprises. Probably. He calls out his Weedle (Level 3) to fight with! Will Luxos fight or flee?

Luxos and Gallifrey's attention were immediately drawn to the small insect as it made it's way towards the two of them. The boys eyes widened in interest.
"Oh my word, I've seen photos of you in my Da's books. A Wurple, yes?," he asked to no one other than himself, as he used his Pokedex to confirm his spoken thoughts to be true.
"You're one of those Pokemon who have different types of evolution," he added with a smile as he placed his dex back into it's proper place at his side.
"Hey Gallifrey," he said looking down to his partner, "Gonna give this battle to Skar-"
His sentence was cut off, a small gasp of surprise escaping his lips as the other young trainer cried out in glee, his net coming down on the worm Pokemon. Luxos then stared at the squirming insect as it was dragged nearer and nearer to the boy. Not really knowing what to say or how to respond to the situation, he remained silent as the trainer began to laugh. Obviously that trainer really wanted that specific Pokemon. It wasn't until the Trainer acknowledged Luxos that he found his voice.
"Ah. That's q-quite alright, it seems you're quite adamant about getting this particular Wurmple."
There were plenty of them to be sure. He was positive he would be bound to find another if he truly wanted one for himself.
"But, I won't turn that battle down."
The more battles fought meant his Pokemon would grown stronger. And one day, perhaps, his team would be strong. Just like his own parents. At least that's what he hoped for.
He released his newly captured Spearow, the bird spreading his wings as it appeared on the ground in front of Luxos. Lux was aware of type advantages and his new partner had the advantage over the Weedle that had called out to do battle. Skaro took a look at it's trainer before his dark chestnut colored eyes found his soon to be opponent.
"Skaro, go ahead and use your peck attack."
Why the trainer had started him off with such an easy opponent was beyond him, but he obliged, giving a strong flap of his wings and flying right towards the bug.

Don waited patiently for Luxos to reply, the Wurmple at his feet huffing indignantly. At least it'd get to watch a battle before engaging with the young boy. "That's the spirit!" The boy grinned widely, stepping a few steps back to give Wurmple and his own Weedle a bit of room to move. "I hope you understand, Wurmple. This'll only take a bit, and it'll be a good show!" While the young boy was relatively confident, he wasn't prepared for the onslaught Luxos was about to release. Wurmple cast a glance over at Weedle, trying to size up the bug before they'd have their battle next. "Wurmple will be a good addition, and I can't wait for it to see just how we're gonna battle after I catch it!"
Skaro was released from his capsule into the field a few paces in front of Luxos. The Spearow, who immediately belittled his opponent mentally, ruffled his feathers before focusing his keen, dark eyes on the Weedle. Peck? Fine. With Skaro's strength it shouldn't be too long of a battle. The prattling child was right about this being a quick battle, but not necessarily in his own favor. As soon as Skaro had the order, he let out a sharp cry before flapping his wings to take to the air.
Wings beating against the cold air, Skaro tipped his head forward and began to tilt his body towards Weedle. If he threw his whole body into the Peck attack it would throw the bug off balance and avoid any chances of immediate physical retaliation. Did Weedle know such types of moves? If they did, Skaro would avoid them. His beak slammed into the bug with quick speed and pin-point accuracy. "Whoah! What a hit! Weedle, Poison Sting right on back!" Don commanded, secretly hoping his bug had the energy to get up off the ground. Weedle uncurled itself and hurled a few poison barbs towards Skaro, who'd already retreated to a safe distance. They still managed to hit, causing the bird to narrow his eyes. Fine, maybe no immediate physical retaliation. Distance. That worked too. Too bad this was almost over, for Weedle at least.

Skaro’s eyes narrowed as the poisonous barbs struck his feathery hide. He would never admit that it stung just a bit, because after all, it wasn’t anything he couldn’t handle. This fight wouldn’t last much longer anyway, the avian decided, sharp eyes now glaring daggers angrily at his current battling foe. He screeched a warning, his wings spreading out wide in an attempt to appear intimidating, just to let the insect know he meant to finish it off.
Luxos, on the other hand, was in a completely different mindset. He focused his camera lens on the two Pokemon as they did battle together and took a few quick shots. He looked up from his focus on the battle, lowered his camera and smiled at Don and his Pokemon.
“It looks like you’ve been training your partner rather well. I bet that Weedle of yours will grow up to be a strong Beedrill in no time!”
Skaro couldn’t seem to help himself from rolling his eyes at that comment.
Luxos’s attention soon turned to Skaro, who was now rather impatiently awaiting an order from his trainer.
“It seemed that the last peck attack went well enough. What do you say we try that once again?”
Those were the only words that Skaro needed to hear. Beating his wings hard against the ground, he once again took charge towards that Weedle. The only thought that filled his mind was that he’d take it out this time for sure. The Spearow was indeed quite cocky, as he was still young. If he didn’t keep level headed and actually think, he would find himself regretting it.
