Tyler had been tipped off that the Bug Catching Contest was being held in the National Park and that rare Pokemon would appear during the event. It was more than enough for him to sign up for it. As he wastransported to the park Flint sat nedt to him just waiting for another chance to prove himself. Once they reached their destination Tyler and Flint made their way through the tall grass hoping to snag something nice. He had never taken part in the contest before but if the rumors of rare Pokemon were really true he would have to make sure he participated in future contests. For now his focus was on finding his first bug type as he kept searching the grass.

Butterfree was quite an unexpected encounter fr Tyler though it was not exactly rare enough for his taste as it was pretty easy to raise one in almost no time at all. He was not going to let the encounter go completely to waste however as Flint could gain experience by defeating it. It was a bit risky to sacrifice an uncommon Pokemon as the contest had a short time frame but it was worth the risk to him. " Flint let's make this quick so we can try our luck with another encounter. Use Ember on Butterfree." Having given his orders Tyler was hoping for a quick knockout so he could look for a new encounter.

Flint grinned, a fiery twinkle in his eyes as he opened his maw and shot forth a torrent of flames. Butterfree, shocked at such reckless violence, couldn't find the motor functionality to get out of the way and instead simply squealed in pain as the fire blackened the grass and caused the bug type to faint.  Flint gained 700 EXP and +1 Happiness (+8)! |

After taking care of the Butterfree with hardly any effort Tyler went back to his search. Running into an uncommon Pokemon in his first try was not a bad by any means and he still had time for more encounters. Flint was just happy to be showing off again and the Butterfree provided a great warm up. They both started to look in the tall grass again hoping to find something even better this time around.

The next Pokemon to appear was not quite as special as the previous one but it would still make a good punching bag for Flint to spar with. He would not gain a ton of experience but it should be enough for him to level up if nothing else. " Ok Flint this one is not that great of a find so it is time for you to het some experience. Use Ember on Kircketot. I want that thing to suffer." He said hoping for a quick battle.

Another bit of fuel for the flame. Poor Kricketot stood there, bobbing cheerily side to side, quiet excited with all the bustle and happy activity of the contest. Unfortunately the young thing had not met with one of the nicer contestants. Flint's tail flame grew to a roaring fire, the fiery lizard inhaling deeply while the Kricketot stared in wonder at him. Then it was over. In an eruption of fire the bug type was badly charred. Nothing but black on it and the surrounding bushy grasses. If he kept going like this there wouldn't be much of a park left. Flint gained 500 EXP and +1 Happiness (+9)! He grew to LV 26! |

As Flint finally gained a level Tyler did not want to waste any time at all as the contest was well underway by now. He was really hoping for better luck as nothing so far had been worth tossing a single ball. Flint had yet to take any damage which was great as it meant so far his lack of healing items would not harm his chances getting as many encounters as he could. Tyler and Flint started to pick up the pace as they looked for another encounter hoping for good luck to shine upon them soon.

The Kricketune that appeared seemed quite upset about what had happened to Kricketot but it did not matter to Tyler at all. Kricketune was not rare enough for his tastes and Flint could use the practice to get one step closer to becoming a Charizard. Time was also ticking against him making him want to rush to win the Battle and try and find a worthy Pokemon to capture before the end of the contest. " Flint use Ember. This thing is holding us up and we are running short on time. We might not find anything worthy at this rate."

Kricketune had picked a poor time to enact revenge, and on a target that could care less. Flint merely grinned at the hapless training fodder he'd clapped eyes on, and he wasted little time in spitting a few searing embers its way. The unwitting bug saw the flames coming, but was too slow to react appropriately before the embers made contact, producing a rather satisfying sizzling noise. Toppling back into the grass out of sight, it soon became nothing more than a brief memory for Flint and Tyler... well, not even a memory, really. More of a road bump than anything.
Flint gained +550 EXP for his wonton destruction of the Bug population.
Gained +1 Happiness. |

Though Flint continued to enjoy the day out Tyler was really growing nervous that this contest was going to be a wash. He had a little bit of luck but not as much as he had hoped. He still had time for two more encounters however and he was not going to let them go to waste. He would catch something before the contest ended even if it killed him. He just had no idea what he would catch.

Tyler's luck took a turn for the worse when a Caterpie appeared. It was anything but a rare Pokemon. As bad as Butterfree was he was beginning to regret not capturing it. Even so he still had a bit of time left to try and find something else but first Flint was going to take care of this pest for him. " Flint I want you to use Ember on Caterpie. It is worthless to me anyways but you should get some experience from battling it." He then waited for Flint to attack hoping the bug would go down quickly.
